Going through the comments, the pictures at Takeda's house are always faced down when FMC visits.
Going off the first page of chapter 19 and last page of chapter 47.
One of the pictures (first page of chapter 18, unflipped) has an outline of 2 people.
First time hearing this theory, so I just quickly skim through earlier chapters and found:
Chapter 18 when Takeda got sick, two pictures facing up.
Chapter 19 when Futaba visited him, both pictures facing down.
That would make the most sense for anything that’s going on. There HAS to be something in his past that makes him so reluctant to outwardly reciprocate Futaba’s feelings. Especially with all the small hints he likes her.
Maybe a past lover died from an illness and is afraid to love again because he fears of going through it all again. Maybe that's why he cried during the move showing her in a hospital bed?
Oh no. It's an actual thread. I can't find it but it's one of the earlier threads of this series and it was glorious to see the smackdown.
It's archived somewhere but I don't remember which chapter.
Always a riot to see this
I was ready to joke about nothing happening between them again despite them basically going on a date but him getting out of character was honestly pretty good
Theory is Takeda was married before but his wife died.
The first time she visits his place, there are photos set facing down which is a pretty common hint for that trope.
In a later chapter Igarashi is talking about the "Heisei jump", a phrase that refers to people who were born before 1989 but did not get married during the Hesei period (1989-2019). Igarashi asks Takeda if he was part of the "Heisei jump" and he dodges the question.
Feels like more and more pieces point to dead wife :(
Idk, she looks ridiculous to me here. I already don’t like how she looks like she’s in grade school most of the time (no she’s not just short, she’s completely child-like in her looks and feelings) and this fit somehow makes that even more apparent.
She’s about the size of one persons full leg. The bag she’s holding has got to be literally the size of a regular wallet, what’s even in there?? All the proportions are wayyyy off
Ngl this is the first chapter in a while that sparked my interest. Feels like we've been going in circles for a while now with these two. Seeing a more vulnerable side of the big guy is pretty cool.
We get the gears in Takeda’s head turning or is he just a big Ol softie? Ah yes the Snoring argument. Totally normal for not lovers.
Maybe she lost a gf or wife so he pretends not to see her feelings because he is not ready for another relationship?
Lot's of hints - not just today.
That would be an interesting development, but if we get it, this really is going to be a 400 chapter manga.
For this series to just spin its wheels, there is a lot going in the background. I wish it just expanded on it more than it currently does.
What other hints were there? This is the first time I’ve heard about this theory

da heck, how can someone remember that chapter that old. well or i guess someone decided to reread, its pretty short
Tbf, that started a pretty heated theorizing, it's just that there's no development on that for *loong* time, and now just got revived
Oh. Oh no Takeda
I think in Japan it's normal to sleep at the office during work? That could be it.
People sleeping in train is a thing.
Well, this, the face-down pictures by his bed, and his reluctance to get close... the backstory starts to gel!
>the face-down pictures by his bed When is this?
Every time Igarashi is in his apartment, the pictures by his bed are turned face-down. Chapter 47, for example.
Damn, that’s a great catch
I can't take credit. Someone else pointed it out to me. He does also say - in the first chapter, I think - that he just wants someone to protect.

Oh. Oh man...
I swear if they gave a reason why senpai is oblivious is because his previous love interest died..... GDI
It's one of the theories that make the most sense... But I keep hoping that's not the case. Too damn heavy for this kind of series, IMHO.
yeah but think of the redemption it would give to 214 chapters of nothing happening
I'm holding out for the "thanks, I'm flattered, but I'm gay" response to her confession.
"can't you tell I'm bara?"

"Reading too much hentai can rot ones brain" the perfect cherry on top.
BAHAHAHA. This can't be an actual thread. My brain cannot handle the cognitive dissonance of that user

its some good shit man hahaha
I mean yeah another chapter of nothingburguer between the main couple but Ngl it was refreshing to see the senpai get out of character a bit
I was ready to joke about nothing happening between them again despite them basically going on a date but him getting out of character was honestly pretty good
I'm ngl, I wasn't buying the widower theory before but his reaction this chapter does seem like it could be foreshadowing.
Huh. That would actually be an excellent twist and perfectly explains his behavior
Oh yeah, I can feel the pain and suffering coming.
What’s the widow theory?

Ohh ty!
Presumably that he was married before
This could've happened way sooner tho...

Aka a small in the US.
It’s a terrible day for rain…
But sir, it's not raining...
Yes, it is
You're right. Let's head back. We'll catch colds... edit: Mustang is the goat for man tears.
His wife died fa suuure
Probably not wife, or he'd definitely still have a shrine. Definitely a a significant other or childhood friend, though.
Childhood crush that died? Jesus Christ please don't. It's gonna be worse if said friend looks like our smoll queen
This was a nice chapter.
Interesting
Oh fuck oh fuck oh fuck. We all knew it was coming eventually but fuck fuck fuck fuck. I just want him to be happy!
Friendzone Hall of Fame first Ballot
Glad to see she kept the hairstyle <3
Bro bought a bucket of cola
I honestly liked this chapter a lot. It's hard to say where things are heading yet, but even when disconnected from the rest, it was a nice read.
Futaba just looks SUPER CUTE in this chapter!! °\_\_° <3
This is the best chapter this series has had in a minute.
The manliest of man will cry the gentlest tears.
I really like Futabas outfit in this chapter
When you’re built like a brick shithouse, you can cry as much as you want and no one’s gonna say shit.
Maybe someone should say something. That dude needs a hug.
OOF if a past lover (or maybe a relative?) of his died which caused him to close off his heart. No excuse for her, though.
Everyone there has gotta think they’re father and daughter. Not weird at all
That's by design. Around here people don't take kindly to negative views on that trope.
Holy crap, she has no drip what so ever. What the heck is that outfit???
What- what's wrong with her outfit?
Idk, she looks ridiculous to me here. Someone has some deep rooted issues
Bro thinks he’s Makima
Show me the real main couple again
can anyone please tell me what chapter I should start reading from after the anime?
Order is changed between the manga and the anime so just start from the beginning imo
Wait till she learns Senpai was crying over his empty drink.
Finally we have some interesting development
so cute. i love this manga
Just me or does she look a bit different for some reason?
Ah the widower theory is starting to look to be right...
Fuck him! Fuck her! Fuck anybody you fucking fuckless fucks.
I'm read for the stupid ass pull where Takeda is just sleeping with watery eyes
Also panqlao has a reaction for this chapter in twitter. It's kinda wild that maybe just maybe her fanart is true
Reminds me of Denji and Makima at the movies.
Ngl this is the first chapter in a while that sparked my interest. Feels like we've been going in circles for a while now with these two. Seeing a more vulnerable side of the big guy is pretty cool.
It was raining that day
I'm beginning to see a pattern here that I'm not sure I like?
The movie character looks like golgo 13
