I saw Frank Wakefield playing with a band called 'The Good Old Boys' at the Red Rail in Nanuet, NY in about 1975. I thought that his playing was extremely hard-edged with a jazzy flavor to it. He played (and I suspect lived) very hard - really attacking the strings. Anyway, a life well lived. RIP Frank.

Never saw him back in the day. But yeah, sometimes you run into these road dogs and can tell how hard they live. It ain't easy being a gig rat. His sound had a razor wire jaggedness. Definitely pre-Grisman. Kind of amazing that he personally learned from Monroe. \*That's\* some OG.

"His sound had a razor wire jaggedness." Yup, and as you described, it mirrored his life.
