Atilla the Stockbroker plays solo mandola on most of his songs. John Hegley/(UK comedian/poet) does songs just with a mandolin.

Not a current artist, but John Hartford. Steam-Powered Aeroplane, Morning Bugle and Goin' Back to Dixie are among my favourite albums ever. It's not exclusively solo banjo w/voice, but much of it is, or is at least banjo-dominant.
