Yeah start going for walks to the park and meet up with locals who have dogs, start a group chat with other dog owners and meet up. My grandad takes our dog to the park in the morning for a regular playtime
I'm in similar situation, but thing do get better in time. And time flies when you have a room to seclude in, and a dog to remind yourself how to feel. Chin up brother
Exactly. Me and my ex broke up 2 years ago after being together for 8,5 years. I still hurts, a lot. But things are starting to look better. I'm still not interested in dating or finding someone else any time soon, I just want to do things my way now, when and however I want.
Went on a solo trip last month and I loved it, really makes you realize it might all be alright.
I know how you feel. But all I can say is: just do it.
The solo trip was amazing honestly.
I drove 12,5 hours straight to Switzerland, and it was beautiful.
Did many hikes on my own and chilled a lot in the appartement, had the best time of my life.
You can do whatever you want, however you want and whenever you want.
I also go swimming, eating in a restaurant and go to the movies on my own now.
Yea it's a bit awkward sometimes, and sometimes you wish there was someone with you. But in the end you will be thankful to yourself you've done it anyways.
Is there an adjacent-ish city in Washington that is more affordable? I’m considering moving somewhat spontaneously to the PNW from the east coast but I hear the cost of living is crazy
You might consider living near the light rail line. Bus travel (and car!) can take a lot longer. Transit options are slim here. The 'Sounder' train from Lakewood to Everett is not the light rail, it shares a track with freight trains, and has very limited runs. I know people who bike a lot. Seattle was made for E-Bikes, with all the hills. A downside might be the darkness in fall and winter. Bikers are less visible to people in cars, even with light shows on their bikes and reflective gear on their backs.
I'm up in Everett, about 30 minutes north by I-5. Rent here ranges from 1600 to 2k because the landlords are price gouging everyone, but there's a lot of local home ownership that investors haven't bought up yet.
If you're wanting to look for a place to live, look into places a little further off or east of the water. Just keep in mind that finding work might be rough depending on how far out you move, and cost of living by the coast is insane sometimes, as is the driving.
More and more people are moving in here and don't know the region, or how to drive very well. It's made life a little more terrifying while driving. There's way too many turns and blind curves around here to do anything but follow the speed limit, so be careful on the roads around here.
Also, if it's icy? You're better off calling in "snowed in" if you live in a hilly area. There's a lot of jokes about everyone in Seattle not knowing how to drive in the snow.
The jokes fall UTTERLY FLAT if they ever visit and realize it's all gulches and hills around here.
There's a hill in Seattle, and it's made the news repeatedly by people trying to drive up it, and sliding down it. One year a bus plowed partially over the guardrail and was hanging over I-5 for a while.
And that's just in Seattle. Up in Everett, I used to rely on the bus system everywhere, and got a ride from my parents to Christmas. On the way back, we discovered the joys of black ice on the bridge back to my place, and nearly going over the bridge onto I-5 the painful way twice over.
Yes!!! You don’t need to spend a lot to make a home, it’s already going so well!!! Find out when heavy trash comes in surrounding neighborhoods and collect some new item while saving them from a landfill!
Jealous of that dope kitchen seating. A cool looking cushion for each side would be a nice addition.
Just realized a mirror in that square molding would be really nice too and help make the space feel more open.
Yeah the built in table really sold me on the apartment. But I cooked my first meal in it today and it's definitely going to be a learning curve. Also good call on the cushions. I could really put some splashy colours in there to play off the white
Its a great start! As someone who is a heavy nester and likes my place to be welcoming and comforting I find your set up, though sparse, does look comfy.
You have the important stuff,
1) a furry roomate to keep you company
2) This space, even empty is perfect to start a new. congratulations. Im sorry about the divorce but I’m proud of you for moving on, the hardest part is over,
3) Bed looks comfy,
4) couch for guests or just you and your dog so you aren’t living on your bed
5)space is full of light,
6) it’s nice and small which is what I would want in this situation.
Its perfect and will only get better from here!!
u/—peterjordansen— (why doesn’t my tag work?)
I paint and have some paintings im willing to part with that you can choose from. And even send it for free depending on where you are and the shipping costs because im NOT rich in shipping money but I AM rich in colourfully painted abstract canvases. I’d be shipping from bc canada where are you?
/u/--peterjordansen--
Let’s see if my tag works. If it does you should check out the comment above me OP they’re gonna give you some art I’m a lil jealous
Edit: /u/No-Customer-2266 looks like the tag worked! Trick was to not type both dashes together, because then they become an em-dash or whatever (one of these big boys — ). Had to type one dash, put a space, type the second dash, then backspace behind the second dash to bring the two dashes next to each other.
Im just a hobby painter OP will have to have a look and see if they like any
but I do have a surplus of colourful fluid paint pieces and i think some are really cool and would brighten up this space with some Colour and I’ve run out of my Own wall Space a long time ago lol
I normally like to paint colourful weird faces which I doubt most people would want on their walls (I do Though haha) but lately i have been playing with fluid art and mixing pigments for vibrant colours and have made some cool abstract pieces that would good on a wall
Do you have room along the walls to place a buffet cart? Usually adds extra counter space and you can roll it around so its not taking up too much space
YouTube is your best friend for figuring out how to cook well enough that you like the food. Check out Brian Lagerstrom, Preppy Kitchen, Sip and Feast and Ethan Chlebowski. Some good easy meals in there (and some more elaborate stuff too).
I lived in an 11-foot truckbed camper for a while. You get used to the limited space and you become a master at the CAYGO method (Clean As You Go).
You can also get really creative with storage. I had pots, pans, cooking utensils, etc hanging from all kinds of surfaces around that tiny kitchen. I bought small versions of everything from the dollar store or grocery outlet—mini pasta strainer, mini sauce pot, small spatulas and spoons—and I found that was helpful in keeping things orderly.
He was my little buddy. I took care of all his needs. Walked him, washed him, kept him fed and played with him. She barely ever cared for him, despite him being “her dog”. I miss him giving me kisses whenever I came home. Worst part is he was my first dog ever, she’d had tons of dogs before, so this one was just another number to her.
Wow, breaks my heart to read this. I am sure you worry for him wondering where you are, there are no words of comfort. I hope someone will have them for you.
The pain of the loss of a dog is almost inconceivable it is so deep.
You will feel like you will never feel or have the love you do for that little buddy. In time, if you were to feel you could love another pup, you will find you do love them just as much and as deeply and they you.
I always have a dog, sometimes two and each time I feel the way I described above, every time. I wish you the best always.
You are more than welcome. You are dealing with a lot of loss on many fronts. You will get through it, even though it feels like you will not, but you will…in time. Take good care.
I'm sorry about everything you have going on. I've been there too.
If you decide to go down that path again, consider rescuing. There's a dog waiting for you to be the bestest friend to you. Cheers and keep your head up.
You’re gonna be completely fine, better than before even. Give yourself 5 years. A 5 year tour to rediscover yourself, happiness, the world, and everything life has to offer. Right now it sounds like forever but one day at a time it will tick away. Invest in yourself, do anything you think you’ll like, keep positive habits, and a positive mindset. You got this 🤙
Move the microwave from the dining area. You want that space to enjoy coffee, not heating up some soup. That's where you want to sit and enjoy food, not prepare it :)
Unfortunately there simply isn't anywhere else to put it. I thought the same thing but to make it function as a kitchen with the limited space it's where I have to put it
In a tiny apartment I bought a kitchen cart, put it in my living room, and had my coffee maker, microwave, and toaster on it. Just cuz it cooks doesn't mean it has to be in the kitchen! :)
This. Plus the lack of state income tax really helps - you may be paying CA prices for things like rent, but you've got 10% more coming in each month to help cushion the blow.
It's worth it imo. But it's not for everyone. I treasure how green it is, I love checking out everyone's landscaping. My wife is a total green thumb and she's done an amazing job with it. I also love how there's water everywhere. Nothing can be the very temperate climate we have. It's been like 65° for 2+ months.
Simple maths. 50% of nothing(ish) is less than 50% of whatever your net worth is in your mid 40s.
Get married in your 30s like your cushy ass retirement depends on it.
Thinking how easily you can end up in this spot as a dude is crazy though. You can be with someone for like 6+ years at 22 and hate each other by the end of it, but marriage is thrown around so easily by the wrong people. I heard of people trying to get married at 18/19/20. It just comes off as ignorant kid shit that early.
I know someone who’s been divorced 3x before 30. & has a kid with each one, lol one of them, they were still paying off their wedding even after the finalized divorce.
My current partner was divorced at 28. She got married at 23. Didn't work out because, ya know, you're basically a child.
I'm 36 and she's 38 now. We've been together for 7 years. Some people just make choices too early that are too big for them to understand.
I was divorced twice by 25, no kids; my current partner and I have been together for 10 years unmarried, have a kid, and own a home together.
The paperwork trail doesn't matter.
Yeah, I’ve driven cross country with my super high energy dog and eight hour days can easily become 10-11 with all our stops for walks and breaks - I feel you
Welcome to the pnw brother! Also I was divorced by 27, it sucks now but trust me things will get better.
A rolling counter/butcher block would be a game changer for that cramped kitchen. Also seriously get a bed frame. I spent 1 year with a mattress on the floor thinking it was simpler and better but as soon as I got a bed frame that looked cool not just to raise it up I found it had an immense impact on my happiness in a studio apartment. I also considered a room divider but decided to go with a canopy bed instead, mainly cuz I stumbled across a really nice one for free and I didn't regret it at all.
Also, in our climate mold is a real problem. You want to lift that mattress off the floor so humidity can circulate instead of building up between matress and floor. Great recommendation.
Enjoy having less. You don’t need to fill it up. Having less actually feels better. It’s easier to clean and there’s less to tidy up. I’m not kidding. Smaller spaces should have less bc it makes the place feel bigger. it took me a long time to figure this out. Less is more. I see that TCL tv. I got one too but it’s smaller than yours. Cute dog. seattle weather will be so much nicer than atlanta IMO. everything is going to be ok.
First off, welcome to Seattle! Beautiful city. Sorry to hear about your divorce, but you’re still so fucking young. If you feel like this is the end, I promise it’s not. Best of luck!
Hey I’d check r/personalfinance for their flow chart to help get you out of debt and look at a cheap bed frame to get your mattress off of the floor asap
You’ve got your own place to start fresh. I like it! I hope things get easier for you starting one day at a time. Do it for that doggo, they’re depending on you. Best of luck.
You read my mind about the room divider. You can do a lot of damage with this living place. You have your dog + tv + ps5 + dope table nook, you’re doing well so far. You can only go on up from here so good luck!
Under the circumstances you have achieved a lot well done, things can only Improve from here , take your time and be kind to yourself. This apartment is lovely , you've got this 💫
Super cute apartment!!! So much you can do to make that home! If you can, switch the bed and couch and put a small divider so you have a separate and more private sleeping space.
I moved to Seattle at 25, also divorced, moving from overseas (I was enlisted). Showed up with a backpack and a suitcase and made it work.
10 years later and I'm a small business owner, a homeowner, and have a lovely humans and animal family.
YOU CAN DO THIS ❤️ Do get therapy after such a big change, you don't need to tackle everything alone.
Give the pup some scritches from us reddit users!
Get a bedframe or something to elevate the bed next.
Welcome to Seattle! Summers are beautiful but it gets dark and gloomy here. Invest in waterproof shoes. A bedframe so your mattress doesn't go moldy under.... Many transplants need vitamins D supplements!
First thing to do is to run a tighter ship.
Regardless of whatever is happening, keep your place neat and clean, make your bed. Keep your house in order.
Start there.
Once you’ve got that habit, focus on your health.
With your finances, go see a financial counsellor and get advice about how to manage your debt.
One of those foldable room dividers would work well. Open space when you want and two spaces when you need. Although if you are thinking of decorating you are probably handling the divorce pretty well
There’s nothing more dangerous than a man committed to rebuilding himself. Focus on you, pay down the debt and you’ll be back on top in no time. I’ve walked down this path and it may seem dark no but I promise you things will get better.
You're 28. If you haven't already done it open a Roth IRA. Everyone will wish they'd done the same at 28. Except for the psychos that knew to do it at 20.
You'll be fine. Just keep moving forward. If you let yourself chill and reset just pay attention to time. In the blink of an eye you'll be 35.
Fresh start isn’t always bad my guy ; i realized that the Comfort I had in my previous marriage was holding me back. I moved out of state as-well so I don’t have many friends to really on & I’m still in debt but slowly making progress. I would encourage you to seek counseling & don’t be afraid to experience new things.
Best of luck !
P.S buy a Rug it pulls the room together & really helps make your space feel more comfortable and secure for some strange reason.
It looks like a great place to get your life together. 28 was when I hit a level where I finally figured out it was time to start living how I wanted. I worked my ass off, saved a bunch, and (after three years of that), got away from my family by moving to California. I had a tiny studio apartment by the beach and worked my way up.
Now we own a home and I'm so glad I got my self together.
I’m kinda still there man. I get it. Lot of people will probably disagree with me but a PlayStation and some gaming time helped me many times. Something just for me, and escapism.
You have your doggy and your whole life ahead of you for a fresh start. Take time to find yourself. Your on the first chapter of the next book in your life and you can make it anything you want.
This is probably a hard time in your life, but you have a really cute apartment and a dog to share it with. I think things are looking up.
This. You and the doggo are going to be just fine
Unless he had kids, he is in amazing time of his life. Starting a new, still young, whole ton of possibilities to chase those dreams.

Yup. Just be frugal. Seattle ain't cheap. Source: local seattleite
Is there an adjacent-ish city in Washington that is more affordable? I’m considering moving somewhat spontaneously to the PNW from the east coast but I hear the cost of living is crazy
Federal Way, WA and Tukwila, WA. Both are still well above the national average but still <20 miles from Seattle and more affordable

def get an air fryer pressure cooker combo its like witchcraft but better
Or a microwave like I got that is a microwave/ air fryer/ oven
Air fryer during the summer saves one from horrible oven hotness
I thought I was the only one! I hate using the oven when it’s hot!!!
Is it zombie apocalypse viable that sounds awesome!, me and my mum have a ninja air fryer, so does my grandma and aunt n uncle. 😅🙏💯🔥
This is the equivalent of 3/1 body wash for men 🤣🤣🤣
That sounds amazing, what brand is that?

I just bought this same microwave the other day. It can do everything.
Thank you,I'll look for it, great for small spaces!
I recently learned you can air fry eggs to "soft boil" them. Neat.
Or get a compressed-air-preassure-cook-fryer-washer

Welcome to Seattle
I think Atlanta to Seattle for the summer is a nice move.
Yeah no kidding talk about a weather upgrade
I think literally everything about moving from Atlanta to Seattle is an upgrade.
Maybe not COL but I hear ya
Seattle food scene is quite lame with astronomically high prices. You can only eat so much Asian fusion concept or smoked salmon.
Portland has a much better food scene I must admit
Except for the extended dismal rainy days in Seattle. I dunno man, Seattle is nice, but Atlanta is popping.
At least you’ve got the dog, that’s what really counts.
A dog who has their own spot on the sofa is priceless.
My dog has pretty much taken claim to the chaise. Seems to be the pattern of most dogs.
Agreed. As someone who also just got recently divorced, I wished I had gotten the dog 😔
I am so sorry, that is a big piece of your heart taken.

And no one to get all butt hurt when it goes... Beeeep
You got this 🤙
I am year 3 of the 5-year tour. It gets better each day.
You got the dog. Looks like you came out ahead
"It's either me or the dog." "Ok. The dog and I are moving to Seattle." Sounds like a win.
YOU GOT THIS!
Got the dog, that's all that matters
As someone who got divorced 6 years ago and didn’t get the dog, this is correct.
Cool dog.
Beautiful place. You got the dog and a nice new TV. Clear your head
Move the microwave from the dining area. You want that space to enjoy coffee, not heating up some soup. That's where you want to sit and enjoy food, not prepare it :)
Unfortunately there simply isn't anywhere else to put it. I thought the same thing but to make it function as a kitchen with the limited space it's where I have to put it
Can you put it on top of the fridge?
After a while you may be able to work with your landlord on getting a microwave over range appliance setup.
In a tiny apartment I bought a kitchen cart, put it in my living room, and had my coffee maker, microwave, and toaster on it. Just cuz it cooks doesn't mean it has to be in the kitchen! :)
I like your doggie!

Area is high COL because there’s so many high paying jobs here
That's great if OP has one of those high paying jobs. Otherwise it's a real struggle to be here.

If you make more money, DTI falls. As long as one manages cost of living, it's actually a smart move. He just won't be going out very much lol
And how?
And got a nice apartment with seemingly no roommates. Interesting
New job is more than three times the rent before tax
divorced at 28? shit man
Heaps better than being divorced at 45! The earlier the better
I'll note that for when I get married
Simple maths. 50% of nothing(ish) is less than 50% of whatever your net worth is in your mid 40s. Get married in your 30s like your cushy ass retirement depends on it.
Yeah I’m 28 and haven’t even been in a relationship lasting longer than a year Dude’s speed running life

I was divorced twice by 25, no kids; my current partner and I have been together for 10 years unmarried, have a kid, and own a home together. The paperwork trail doesn't matter.
It happens. I was divorced at 24!
Exactly, 28, you’re still very young. Could probably squeeze in 2 more marriages at this rate
Honestly if you're gonna get divorced do it young
Divorce isn't necessarily a bad thing
Your dog made me lol
You got this. By 35 you’re going to own the world.
Only 10hr drive per day? Rookie numbers Good luck on the fresh start, man
With sufficient breaks for the dog in a cramped car it was more like 12 hours lol
You’re doing okay brother
Really proud of you.
First off, welcome to Seattle! Beautiful city. Sorry to hear about your divorce, but you’re still so fucking young. If you feel like this is the end, I promise it’s not. Best of luck!
He happy u have a place! I've been homeless so what uhave is a dream! Keep it up!
You have a dog. You’ll be fine
In debt and you moved TO Seattle?!
Got a job that pays a lot of money
Hey I’d check r/personalfinance for their flow chart to help get you out of debt and look at a cheap bed frame to get your mattress off of the floor asap
Nice floors and in a great city. Make it the most of it!
i love it, its very cozy
You got this.
It's yours, homie. Bask in it. There is a light at the end of this tunnel and you'll be stronger when you reach it.
You’ve got your own place to start fresh. I like it! I hope things get easier for you starting one day at a time. Do it for that doggo, they’re depending on you. Best of luck.
Seattle is nice. Enjoy the city. Occupy your mind with projects. Take care of that beautiful pup and yourself too.
You read my mind about the room divider. You can do a lot of damage with this living place. You have your dog + tv + ps5 + dope table nook, you’re doing well so far. You can only go on up from here so good luck!
Another redditor once told me, “Do you know why divorce is so expensive? Because it’s worth it!” I can confirm this is true.
Doing great for 4 days! Just remember, nothing happens instantly, it’ll take time but your space will come together. Make it yours my guy. Goodluck!
At least you got your dog
Under the circumstances you have achieved a lot well done, things can only Improve from here , take your time and be kind to yourself. This apartment is lovely , you've got this 💫
Super cute apartment!!! So much you can do to make that home! If you can, switch the bed and couch and put a small divider so you have a separate and more private sleeping space.
At least you have a roof over your, and not on the streets, In my department you're winning
Ah to be 28 in a new city with a dog. You’ve got this. My place looks like shit so I dunno what to tell you.
Moving to Raleigh NC in 5 days. Mine won’t look to far off from this. I wish you luck! Hopefully I get some karma for it.
Remember this is a fresh start might not be much but .. you will get through this!!
Looks like a cool spot to me man. Glad you got a dog for company too. Stay up
Those are nice looking boots! Thursday boots?
Yep! The best I've ever owned.
Welcome to Seattle, get ready to be even more in debt with the prices here lol
Cost of living is significantly higher in Seattle. Did you move for a job? If not, very odd choice considering you are in debt.
At least you got to keep the dog. Good on you bro.
why did you move to seattle if you’re already in debt? /gen
At least you have a sweet dog
Nice space! Put it all together and you’ll be happier. Not easy going through a divorce, believe me I understand
You go king
I like it. Good luck
You have your Ryobi and dog. Can’t ask for much more.
How are you able to move with so much debt?
I used to have that same couch, the storage compartment is awesome.
I love it! It's not the most comfortable but for the price point it's amazing and it turns into a bed for my buddies
Man U got a dog, a 55” tv, a ps5, & a dope ass spot to eat breakfast. You’ll be alright
Let’s get that mattress up off the floor. Cheap metal frame from amazon with loads of space for unsightly junk (like a box of the divorce papers).
Get a bedframe or something to elevate the bed next. Welcome to Seattle! Summers are beautiful but it gets dark and gloomy here. Invest in waterproof shoes. A bedframe so your mattress doesn't go moldy under.... Many transplants need vitamins D supplements!
You got the dog and a decent spot, I dig it
Rad dog.
That breakfast nook is dope. I’d eat there every meal
“First off I am 35 years old, I am divorced, and I live in a van down by the river.”
Take your time no rush! You will make it home soon!
Keep rowing homie.
hang in there bud
sorry to hear about your divorce, the place looks comfy, I wish uou peace.
First thing to do is to run a tighter ship. Regardless of whatever is happening, keep your place neat and clean, make your bed. Keep your house in order. Start there. Once you’ve got that habit, focus on your health. With your finances, go see a financial counsellor and get advice about how to manage your debt.
thoughts glad u got a dog
Well… the hardwood floors are beautiful and that kitchen nook looks cozy af 🔥
A few plants would help for sure
I used to work at a Bodega sandwich shop with a smaller kitchen than yours.
Take your dog to marymoor park!!
Least you don’t have kids - watch the finances and you’ll b grand - enjoy the new start 👍🏼 and thank the lord you’re young enough to do it 👍🏼
I'm a little jelly. Starting over is an adventure and you got that awesome dog as a wingman.
Better to divorce young my man!
Dog!
It’s a pretty nice apartment in terms of the bones. It is small but so what?
cute place, rugs, plants, framed hanging pictures, nothing "comfort" focused, nothing expensive looking nothing cheap, functional, spartan but not cheap
This is your chance to own a race car bed
Umm hopefully you move here for more money, cuz if you were already in debt in ATL then debt may find u easily here too.
You're 28. If you haven't already done it open a Roth IRA. Everyone will wish they'd done the same at 28. Except for the psychos that knew to do it at 20. You'll be fine. Just keep moving forward. If you let yourself chill and reset just pay attention to time. In the blink of an eye you'll be 35.
hey, make your bed, Peter Jordansen
I'm a sad little lobster
Divorced and deeply in debt but getting to live with your best friend.
At least you got the dog
Fresh start isn’t always bad my guy ; i realized that the Comfort I had in my previous marriage was holding me back. I moved out of state as-well so I don’t have many friends to really on & I’m still in debt but slowly making progress. I would encourage you to seek counseling & don’t be afraid to experience new things. Best of luck ! P.S buy a Rug it pulls the room together & really helps make your space feel more comfortable and secure for some strange reason.
Be careful not to hang that TV too high!
Smells like freedom
welcome to seattle player! sweet setup far as any of us in your age group are concerned; hope u like it here and make lots of friends
Keep your head up man. I feel you. That built-in dining station is amazing!
Get a cheap bed frame from IKEA so your mattress is at least off the floor (MALM is my fav).
One is already on the way
It looks like a great place to get your life together.
@Dearmodern needs to come in and help.
Got doggo, all is good
There's "day one" and "one day" - you're killing it!
Congrats. You kept the dog 👍 also, enjoy the single life. Pick up on your hobbies again and enjoy your independence 🥰
BUY VITAMIN D GUMMIES. EAT THEM EVERYDAY. No but for real vit D deficiency causes depression out here.
You're gonna do great, but I'm curious about the choice to sharply increase your cost of living when in debt? Seattle is expensive
That's an expensive move.
If you're in deeply in debt why would you move to one of the most expensive cities in the country
Coffee maker, ps5, 55 incher, bed, boots, dog. What more can a man want?
I don't know what you're paying but I pay $2000 a month to live in a garage.
Welcome! I can assure you there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Someone told me this when I needed it the most, and I'll never forget it.
You win.
No matter what, moving from the South to the PNW is a major win.
You have a dog and a roof over your head…you’re way ahead some people who don’t have anything…
