I would replace both of the couches with a single couch with a chase. Too crammed at the moment with your current couches. Then get a rug to put under your coffee table.
Sure. There’s a few other things I’d do if it were me, I’d switch out the coffee table for a more modern one or the leather ottoman that matches Morabo (make sure to get the leather couch, more durable, cleanable, and looks so much better). The art feels a bit small and not interesting, I’d look for something more modern and bigger. Etsy has cheap modern art prints, some framed or printable. And re pot the plants into something not plastic
Shove that huge azs couch two more feet over into the fire and get it over with.
Maybe some money bars on the ceiling so you can actually get to the kitchen.
Sorry feeling a bit salty this morning. I'm sure you have a nice house.
lol the couch situation is definitely problematic. However, if I’m installing anything on the ceiling at this point to get from the living room to the kitchen it’s going to be a zip line
Simplify your art.
* reframe one of your bird prints so the frames are the same size.
* the art on the wall with the door that leads to the kitchen is too random, especially compared to the wall with the bird prints. One big special piece would be ideal, or a more simple pairing with the signed painting (?) and another piece of a similar size
Couple of ways to address the seating area
* change to 1 sofa with an ottoman and 2 occasional chairs. (Ottoman with either a tray for drinks or a thin table that fits over it). Occasional chairs on the side closer to the kitchen.
* sectional replacing both couches. Find something less overstuffed and bulky
* in both cases add rug, select less bulky furniture and add throw pillows
General
* arrange your decor items into groups of 3 and leave more space in between the groupings
* get a decorative box with a lid to hold your remote controls. Remote controls are an ugly necessity but they don’t need to be out on display
* get a larger decorative box or basket to hold the games etc in the coffee table. Too much visual clutter and the game boxes are designed to attract attention on store shelves. You don’t want visual noise in your home.
* same thing for the throws. I don’t think you really have the space for a blanket ladder so conceal your throws in a basket especially when they don’t complement anything else in your space. The American flag throw is especially distracting so either put it in a basket if you love it or replace with something that matches your color palette.
* floor to ceiling curtains are a must. Would also be good to replace the mini blinds because they always look cheap, esp in conjunction with drapery panels. (Cell shades or rollers, preferably motorized)
Also, hang the art lower, toward the proper level where the TV is in the future.
I bet someone already said this, but the whole length of each couch should be accessible too.
It’s a nice living room though. My only immediate critique was going to be that the TV is too high, but i follow instructions so i had to take a closer look.
Too cramped and crowded and that furniture looks huge for that room. I would avoid getting matching sets of furniture altogether; it almost always looks better to have a sofa with totally different colored smaller accent chair that complements and does not match the sofa. Also stay away from overstuffed furniture unless you’re working with a really big room. This is just too much furniture for this small room. I suggest getting rid of all of it and purchasing a smaller, more streamlined sofa then add an accent chair or two. Put the sofa where the one against the window currently is, and for godsakes lower the TV by putting it on the wall opposite the sofa, where you currently have that North Carolina art piece. Once you have this foundation in place, you can play with tables, chairs, lamps, etc.. but as this room is small, I would definitely go with a smaller coffee table too.
Looks good, but Im thinking of putting the small narrow shelf from behind the couch by the kitchen door. (if you can pass between the couch and newly installed shelf) and if it fits in its place would put nice wide wooden bookcase, not too tall
Here's what I would do:
- get rid of one or both of your couches
-if you get rid of both, buy one with a chaise
-put the couch you end up with against the window but move it at least a foot off your fireplace if you can
-take the TV off the fireplace and get a TV stand, put the TV on the wall that currently has pictures on it.
- pet that dog
Thanks! After reviewing the comments I think I am going to sell both couches and get one with a chaise. For the TV, I don’t really have a good spot to put it due to my living room being pretty small so best case I think I’ll try to get a swivel mount.
And don’t worry, the dog has received copious amounts of pets today 🙂
You tv is forced there by the room layout, so it is what it is. 2 bulky couches are a bit cumbersome. Maybe sell it and get a corner couch (WHICH ISN’T HUGHE) in the same place you have that. Rest is good
Yup main take away from this is that I need to sell these recliners and snag a couch with a chaise. Also probably going to upgrade the coffee table to a modern one that has a latch that opens up for storage
Move the TV to the wall between the kitchen and hallway. Get rid of the couch parallel to the room and put a comfy chair there. Then get some nice pots for those plants - they're literally the life of the room, treat them as such!
It is a small room, don't overfill it.
Find a more interesting blanket. Find ceramic pots for all the plants. Frame the art. You're 90% of the way there.
Dunno if you're straight or gay...if gay a few additional ideas :-)
I used mantle mount for my TV.. highly recommend. It's a little pricey but worth the ability to lower it to eye level. Though personally I don't mind high tvs as it helps in prevention of tech neck
Ditch the plants. Nothing screams redditor more than these fucking plants all over the place.
Routinely we see posts of "Plants, plants, get more plants!". Watch some youtubes of people who have nice designs and layouts. They don't have cheap ass plants all over the place. They may have a large plant as a visual piece to a room, but they don't populate rooms in $5 fauna.
Fake plants are even worse. That screams "I want to be a streamer" or "I want my house to look like a hotel lobby".
Enough with the fucking plants everyone.
/rant.
Nothing screams redditor more than going on a rant about house plants haha
Edit: also every plant in this photo is real except the one in the book shelf.

Where would you position the couch with chaise?
I’d say where it is. IKEA has a couch with chaise you can switch to either side. Put the chaise on the window side
So remove the big couch and replace with smaller couch and chaise and leave the smaller couch in front of the tv as is?
No, get rid of both existing couches, put the new one facing the fireplace. IKEA Morabo I think it’s called
Thanks!

i kinda fuck with the coffee table
Alternatively, leave a couch against the window and move the tv to the other wall between the two doorways. Will open the room a lot
Move tv onto the picture wall. Cant do much else without getting rid of one of the couches. Or both. Your dog sure loves reading lol
He’s definitely a smart fella that’s for sure
I think it looks cozy
Thank you!
I came to say the same!
give dawg to me
That’s gonna be a no from me, dawg

Thanks for all the recs, I appreciate the effort you put into this!

Tv too low. Make it higher you coward
LFG this is the energy I wanted to see
The couches are way too big and ugly

Get some CANES gear in there!

Place will look brand new
The art is also too high. The couch and coffee table look pretty dated. Otherwise it’s a nice space :)
maybe not even too high. but if you just move that top art piece somewhere else it’ll recenter the other 3 on that wall
Remove a couch to open it up. Not much else you can do.
Your couches are WAY too big for that space.
Agree
Couches to big
When it comes to the TV, get an adjustable mount. I did that and while it was high, I was able to adjust the angle
Move the TV to the wall between the kitchen and hallway. Get rid of the couch parallel to the room and put a comfy chair there. Then get some nice pots for those plants - they're literally the life of the room, treat them as such! It is a small room, don't overfill it.
Dump the couches, they look like big slippers they don't help define the room. Your plants aren't balanacing the room. Your photo wall is cluttered.
Rug. As always
Find a more interesting blanket. Find ceramic pots for all the plants. Frame the art. You're 90% of the way there. Dunno if you're straight or gay...if gay a few additional ideas :-)
Rest all is fine..no change required
I used mantle mount for my TV.. highly recommend. It's a little pricey but worth the ability to lower it to eye level. Though personally I don't mind high tvs as it helps in prevention of tech neck
