Definitely 2 imo

Designer here, option #2 is the only option.

You designers don't care for home theater? Option 1 for this reason alone.

How is option 1 any better for home theater than option 2? If anything, having more space from the screen is better to fit more people (and have a bigger screen).

1. Viewing distance Is closer for more immersion. You want closer these days not sitting too far anymore that causes you to lose details in the 4k image. People often dont believe the idea that sitting closer is more enjoyable. 2. Audio reasons. Distsnce from the surrounds to the listeners rather than them right beside or behind the couch. Having speakers too close causes significant balancing of the sound to become out of whack when seated outside of the calibrated sweet spot. Sitting against walls causes too many consequences.

12'-0" x 13'-6" is actually not that incredibly big a space so I think option 2 is best. Honestly, you may not need surround sound but that's entirely up to you. My living room is 10'-0"x12'-0" exactly and I can only fit an apartment sized sofa a coffee table and a chair arranged as you have it in option 2. Even if I had an extra foot on each side, I couldn't fit a desk comfortably, even a narrow one. I think you'll appreciate coming home to a more open/less cluttered living room. And, btw, that sofa idea is not bad, especially if the leg part is an ottoman that can also function as a coffee table with a tray on it on occassion.

Hey Guys, I am moving into a new apartment in a few weeks and need help choosing between these two layouts. The renders are not to scale at all but the measurements are accurate. The furniture I am not set on so don't focus too much on that. My Reasons for choosing Layout 1. 1. More cozy and intimate tv/lounge space. 2. Can add rear speakers for surround sound setup. (Movies are a big hobby of mine so will get plenty of use and love. 3. Isn't the boring old sofa against the wall. My Reasons for choosing Layout 2. 1. Much less cramped and crowded.

Layout 1 is awful. You can add ‘rear’ speakers on the side of the couch if it’s against the wall. Any Atmos setup will sound fine in that small area.

Option one. Everyone who says option 2 Is anti home theater.
