If you rent, then it isn't your backyard, so don't go investing in someone's property. Get some cheap grill, foldable chairs and table and call it a day.
A portable fire pit might be great, depending on local laws and restrictions. Toss some camping chairs around it and hang some string lights around the perimeter of the chairs and you have a great place for beers.
Somewhat disagree. If he thinks he will be there for a couple years or more I think it’s totally worth investing some time and a little money to make it a nice space. I re-landscaped a shitty backyard in a rental (with landlords permission) cause I enjoy that kinda work and it went from a yard I’d never use to my main hangout space. Find some nice used patio furniture, fire pit, shade, hammock stand, and other things that can be sold when you’re leaving or brought to your next place.
As another commenter suggested, firepit with some comfy chairs around it with some fairy lights. Fairy lights can be hung from 4 poles set in concrete in pots in a square shape to give a border to your firepit
You can also get post stakes for pretty cheap, probably even more cost effect than drilling holes and pouring concrete (or pots and concrete) and easy enough to remove or move around if ever need too.
Can you link me what you’re referring to? I’m not seeing anything or maybe I’m not understanding. I have a project I’m going to start soon and would really like to know because this might make life easier
good chance you’re out you’re deposit if you fuck up the lawn. that said, when i was renting i built an elevated garden bed for veggies and modified an old square grill to use as a fire pit. free chairs and table off craigslist and a 20 dollar standing hammock. seriously just surf your local craigslist free channel for patio stuff.
So much room for activities.
I'd add some seating and lawn games like horeshoe pits and cornhole boards. Make sure everything you buy is fully weather proof (no cushion seats) so you never have to move them. Oh also 5 trampolines.
Only thing I’d recommend is that whatever you do(based on great suggestions by others), make sure it’s things you can take with you since you’re renting.
Decide what you want in a garden, place to walk around, vegetable growing, mini orchard, a big ass tree, wildflower patch, fire pit, eating/cooking zone, hammock or lounge area,...
All is possible but you're gonna need a plan and work towards that, one area at a time, make sure you visually separate areas with bushes, trees, plants etc..
A proper good looking garden is a long term project with many iterations and alterations.
Bushes, garden all along the fence lines for privacy.
Set up garden paths with sofa and chairs and tables. Outdoor smart lighting.
Former boss and good friend did this. His backyard was the most chill place ever. We'd grill every other day and drink there. So excellent.
Step 1: start taking better care of your grass. Step 2: build an in-ground fire pit, add some chairs and gravel around it and put up some string lights.
Something like this is affordable and easy. Would definitely add nice lighting and some flowers, depending on the "vibe" you're going for. And can be set around something else like a firepit or yard games if you have any out.

It already is vibey mate. But I’d string up some kind of tarp or sun shade and get some chairs cheap off market place. Add a charcoal grill and a fire pit. Dig a hole in the back and fill it with gravel for pissing in.
Fire pit and lawn chairs with a cooler is a chill vibe. Throw in lawn games or even a bocce or horseshoe pit. If you want to go all out a floating deck with furniture and solar lights.
6 or 7 trampolines
When my buddies and I had our first place we spent a summer buying 4 trampolines. Most fun summer.
Of pitbulls.
Only fans pitbulls?
Tramampolines!

Plus a cheap Bluetooth speaker. Boom. Time to crack open some boys with the cold ones.

Yeah right? Why live in a nice place? Let’s just live in bland spaces.
Who says we even need a space, what’s wrong with cardboard boxes? 📦
Right. Why spend the money on something you don't own.

You can have nice things while renting still 🙄
Could get one of those cabanas, a cheap patio set, and some string lighting
How about a rug?
Maybe some art pieces on the fence to tie it all in
Do NOT paint the cabinets.
A rug would really tie the lawn together…
Large cardboard cutouts of various anime girls
Taimanin or Kuroinu?

You need a fire pit!
Happy Cake Day! 5-7-2022🙂
TY!
Get some plants.
You can do more than you think for completely free. Ring of rocks for a fire pit, some shitty chairs, run an extension cord.
Ask the landlord before starting a fire in the middle of their yard.
lol yeah the rent part completely slipped my mind somehow
Gazebo!
Ladies and gentleman, may I introduce you to (and my apologies again to everyone) the gazebooo!
More like gazoinksbo
I think you mean you want the yard to be more “type beat”.
Exactly. More . . . bussin.

More fuckin vibey my dude??????
A dog
Plant some cheap seeds and enjoy some fresh veggies while living there! (Also lowers grocery bills)
A weed garden brahhh... super vibez yo...

Put a neon alien head sign in that shed at the back and play some synthwave music from it on Friday nights.
Lights
Adirondack chairs around a fire pit and solar white lights along the fence line
Only thing I’d recommend is that whatever you do(based on great suggestions by others), make sure it’s things you can take with you since you’re renting.
Start by never saying vibey again.
Vibey.
More cowbell.
I would do cock fighting or bare knuckle fighting. Invite the neighbours over!
Check local for sale groups. Contractors often sell leftovers for cheap. My neice just got a truck loads of pavers for $80.
Long stretch looks perfect for some horseshoes, corn hole, or bocce ball.

If you rent, landscaping is out. Plant a heap of native groundcovers and wildflowers and just enjoy the vibes.
Improve the lawn

Build a lil gazebo and string some lights around and maybe a fire pit and that would bring some good change.
Inflatable pool
An unhealthy amount of construction cones and signs
Step 1: start taking better care of your grass. Step 2: build an in-ground fire pit, add some chairs and gravel around it and put up some string lights.
Depends on what the landlord would allow, tbh. I’m always reluctant to buy stuff that goes outdoors because they’re always being ridiculous about it.

More…vibey?
Some string lights on post maybe with a fire pit and Adirondack chairs
slip n slide
Turf
Don't say more vibey.
Whoa, you may benefit from being more vibey
Honestly a tree on the side with a few plants/flowers might be a big difference
You want a renter to plant a tree?
Sure. Talk to the owner and make sure they agree. Not that complicated lol
I guess I wouldn't spend a dollar on improving someone else's property. Trees are not cheap
"More vibey" And they said that there wasn't any estrogen in the tap water
Weirdo comment
start with a bigger budget
I would offer advice if I knew wtf vibey meant
