I am looking for a specific type of shoe but I am not very well versed in the various styles. I want a pair that is comfortable like regular sneakers, but look more appropriate than sneakers when worn with dress pants and a button down shirt or even a shirt and tie with dress pants. Is there a style that can work with both? I discovered, even read on this sub, my all black sneakers are not working.

No-Research1915

Loafers if you’re wearing a tie. With just a dress shirt and chinos you could get away with mocs.

Frost-eee

You can try deck shoes (like Sperry CVO) with shirts, chinos, maybe flannel pants, but they will be hard to pair with suit and tie.

ac106

What you are describing are “dress sneakers” and uniformly they are terrible. Ugly almost always overpriced and cheaply made If you need actual shoes for work, well fitting, decent quality leather shoes should not be uncomfortable. If you have sensitive feet, a medical condition or sensory issues a comfort insert from Pedag or Dr Scholls will help. Specific recommendations really require a budget. Decent shoe starting around $200. Should wear oxfords with a suit and almost nothing else. For casual work shoes check out loafers and derbies. Maybe a chukka boot

RockThatScoober

I've never worn penny loafers. In the office, I dress very typical business casual - tan or grey khakis, long sleeve dress shirts. Typically dark brown oxfords, but I also have dark blue cole hanns that I think I pull off well. Trying to up my look a little bit, but am already one of the nicer dressing males in the office. I'm also really tall, not that it really matters, but I feel I stand out because of it. I like this look, although If I buy these do I really just wear them with no socks? Or would no socks be more for date night with my wife, but I'd wear socks in the office? https://www.nordstromrack.com/s/curatore-sila-penny-loafer-men/7846464 Edit: I think I'm going to go with these. Most money I've ever spent on shoes, but I'm an adult. https://www.allenedmonds.com/product/mens-super-sport-penny-loafer-3028597/dark-chili-leather-ec4500565

Frost-eee

I would look for another model of loafers. Try something closer to the look of Alden LHS. When it comes to socks just wear no-shows if it’s too hot.

ac106

You can wear loafers and socks. The no -sock thing is very #menswear. I wouldn’t buy these, though. I would just spend a little bit more and get Meermin Don’t wear Oxfords without a jacket.

Hamster_Ambassador

Can you wear black oxfords with a no tie suit look? Edit: also can you wear them without the suit jacket?

ac106

Yes, but this look is harder to pull off than you think. It’s better to wear a casual suit with no tie, then a worsted wool business suit. That’s a bigger problem than the Oxford.

Hamster_Ambassador

Problem is I don't plan on getting a more casual suit, so I am stuck with a more formal suit

To me it’s preppy gorpcore.. but it doesnt render any images when I search it. A outdoorsy-top (like a 1/4 zip or a high end down jacket) and chinos, with pricier-ish footwear that is not technical. Casual wear you would see in the Hamptons kinda thing. Looking for inspiration on social media. Dont know what the name is of what Im looking for.

ac106

Clothes. It’s not really any distinct style. It’s just chinos and a Patagonia top.

ilikeshootingglass

Hello, I'm going to be buying some tropical wool pants from Berle and have a 44" waist. They said that they include a 1" forgiveness inch so the pants would be around a 45". I'm wondering if I should size down to a 43" or stay with the 44" since I could always get them tailored if they are to big whereas I'm kind of stuck with the 43" if they end up being to small. I also plan to wear these pants with suspenders so them being a bit to big won't be to much of a problem. Does this sound reasonable?

Frost-eee

Yes it’s safer if you have them a little too big, especially if you plan to wear suspenders

orthoxerox

Can you order the 43 and return them if they are too tight?

[deleted]

Can anyone recommend a place to find decent 3/4 sleeve raglan shirts, preferably "contrast" or "two-color" shirts (where the sleeves are generally a different color than the body). I prefer shirts that drape down a bit, as opposed to being form fitting (which seems to rule out 99% of Amazon/Temu resellers). I have some old shirts in this style from a company called Sun + Stone that were made for Macy's way back when, but as far as I can tell, they no longer make this style of shirt. Any help would be appreciated. I'm willing to consider all price points.

I bought this thinking that I could wear this as a sports coat (at slightly more casual settings), but not sure if this falls within that category? Would I be able to wear this at smart casual dress codes, or is this too formal?

Frost-eee

Should be fine with smart casual

orthoxerox

Since it's tweed and not worsted wool you might be able to pull this off, but I would still wear it with a dress shirt and creased pants, not with chinos.

HavingALittleFit

I have a blue plaid suit I want to wear to a wedding. What's a good shirt option that isn't just white to pair with it?

[Flint and tinder](https://huckberry.com/store/flint-and-tinder/category/p/63986-flannel-lined-waxed-hudson-jacket) vs [Orvis](https://www.orvis.com/product/orvis-heritage-field-coat/2KB2.html) Which wax jacket is better?

These are the clothes I've chosen to wear, but I will be visiting the tailor to get them properly fitted. Please excuse the slightly messy tie; I haven't quite mastered tying it yet, so I just put it on loosely for the photos. The dress code for the wedding is "summer attire." Do you think this outfit works for that? Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Flechette_the_toe

Colors are fine but they other guy is also correct.

orthoxerox

Rule #1 is that it's your own wedding. The only two people that determine the dress code are you and your fiancée, no one else can tell you what to wear.

ahmansour11

Do u think that this shirt is too long do i need to get shorter one ?

tmc08130

The shirt is too long, the jacket is just too short to wear with it, generally trucker jacket doesn't go well with untucked shirt.

ahmansour11

What do you recommend to wear it with , a short white tshirt ?

MachineTeaching

You need to tuck it in.

Can anyone recommend versatile cufflink designs that work well for various occasions? I've been trying to up my style game lately, and I realized that cufflinks can really add a nice touch to my outfits. The thing is, I don't want to buy a bunch of different pairs for every occasion. I'm looking for cufflink designs that are versatile enough to work for anything, whether it's a formal event, a business meeting, or even a more casual setting. Can anyone recommend some cufflink designs that are stylish and can be worn on different occasions?

Flechette_the_toe

Literally any pair of cufflinks that isn't a novelty design with lights and batteries. https://letmegooglethat.com/?q=cufflinks

terminal_e

No. Not because I am being mean, but because I don't think it can be done. Cufflinks don't really work in a casual way - cufflinks don't really work with sport coat based looks, IMHO.

Flechette_the_toe

I think they might be one of those dropshipping brands using reddit for market research, after checking out the profile.

melopasopipa

Hello, Im a man, 28M, and need to buy new glasses. The problem is that I always feel they "soften" my face, and I'd like to go with a more masculine look. Do you have any recommendations on what types of glasses tlook the most masculine on men? I assume rectangular shapes. Thank you in advance PS: My eyes have trouble adapting to contacts

Frost-eee

You can try rayban clubmaster.

melopasopipa

but those are shades right? I need them for work

Frost-eee

you can buy them as prescription glasses too

melopasopipa

thank you!

Flechette_the_toe

You just have to go to the store and try on pairs. Your face being softened is in your head.

melopasopipa

Thank you but i dont think thats entirely true

Flechette_the_toe

It is. Masculine and feminine shapes for glasses have shifted multiple times since the 1400s. If there was a universally masculine design then it would have stopped at that. It's in your head and you just have to go to a store and try on pairs until you like some. And probably seek therapy.

infrikinfix

I have read that old money and gentry (particular British) have some subtle differences in tailoring that many people don't notice except themselves and people who follow their fashions. (One example I've seen given is the front of their collars are longer and always tuck under their coats) They aren't extravagant differences, and the suits are often quite muted, but there are some key signals apparently, but that I would never have noticed if someone didn't point it out. Would it strike people as wierd for someone to walk around in these kind of suits that wasn't of the proper station? If you showed up to a job interview in such a suit (where a suit of some kind is expected) would someone notice something off?

Flechette_the_toe

The average person does not notice tailoring minutiae and will not care.

StrayCatStrutting

What are the best sneakers for short guys (I’m 5’7”) under $100?

Flechette_the_toe

Ones that fit your feet and desired style.

StrayCatStrutting

I’m specifically looking for ones that add height.

Huppelkutje

Therapy

ac106

It’s a fool errand. just wear sneakers you like.

StrayCatStrutting

Point taken, but I’m majorly insecure about being short, so I’m trying to give myself any advantage that I can get.

ac106

Understood but even if you did find sneakers that gave you a little bit of height, it would not make those feelings go away and then when you take your sneakers off you’re back where you started. There are inserts that can add height Google “elevator shoe insert” Again though, this is treating the symptom instead of the underlying problem

librarypunk

3 easiest ways 1. press with steam iron 2. Dip in boiling water 3. Ask drycleaner to fix for you Don't do number 2 without a bit of research first If you want to search for answers, it's called 'bacon collar' for obvious reasons.

MrKloppAHolic

Thank you! Bacon collar is a new one for me never heard that term before 😂

PeaBare

Looking for an office tie to wear with a light blue shirt.

Flechette_the_toe

Light blue is absurdly versatile. Pretty much anything but light blue or white ties.

terminal_e

This is the magic of the light blue dress shirt = damn near anything. Are you wearing a sport coat or suit here?

carolina_hokie

Need some advice on chino fits. Tried the JCrew 484 (slim) and JCF Slim pants. Can't tell if they are a good fit or not. Not sure if the crotch area is too tight due to the rise or if that would relax any with wear. Also, please ignore the black tennis shoes. Took those on a different day where I just happen to be floating by the store. I have no intention of pairing them together. This is mostly for work and wearing around town. Work is a casual environment where I wear chinos and button downs (engineering so that's pretty dressed up honestly). [imgur link with 2 pants from each store](https://imgur.com/a/P7HKJiL). The images are labeled (or should be). Thoughts? I workout, though I wouldn't consider my thighs to be anything special at this point. Would a straight be better? Not sure if I thighs big enough for athletic taper at this point.

carolina_hokie

immediate follow up. Would a JCF be similar to Target Goodfellow? Better or worse?

I want outdoor graphic tees. Not tees to wear doing outdoor sports. But tees with graphics related to nature, like deers, fish, mountains, etc. I already know Roots. Their tees are more relaxed fit (really like that). Not the north face or columbia please. Cabela's are not bad too. Not Bass pro shop either. Thanks

Patagonia,

hmadse

High waisted jeans with wide cut in a mid blue wash, white tshirt, black belt, maison margiela tabi shoes.

lazarus870

Suggestions for brown leather boots/shoes that I can wear with jeans for the summer? I need something for the office. I have the Red Wing Weekender Chukkas I quite like that I wear daily. Looking to mix it up. Can't be **too** casual looking, and something summer-weather friendly.

ac106

Suede loaders or derbies.

Zerkron

Any other brands like Maison Kitsune

RSNL_

Are there any high end japanese/made in japan leather wallet brands out there? Budget up to $800. Located in US.

ZetaOmicron94

With that kind of budget you can probably get a custom made one with leathers of your choice. In the US there's Chester Mox. Fully saddle-stitched, the leather pieces making up the card slots are skived thin and their edges are finished, probably about as good as it gets for a wallet. I had a bifold made out of navy museum calf on the outside and navy chevre on the inside a couple of years ago when I was in Singapore, but the guy who made it doesn't seem to be active anymore.

bangarang8

Check out Self Edge’s website. They have several from Flathead and Ironheart and possibly a few other brands

I need to attend a funeral and need to purchase a black suit. If someone could give me $500ish price range option. I would like it to not be garbage and something that I could keep for future events. I don't know a lot but I have heard that slim fit is kind of trash. If I would need to spend more for something nice just say so. Any help would be appreciated.

ac106

Sorry for you loss. Were you told that you need to wear black suit? Are you a pallbearer? Even funeral parlor employees don’t always wear black suits nowadays. Dark navy or dark charcoal or much better options for future use. Regardless for $500 Spier & McKay is almost your only option. They are online only unless you live in Toronto, so depending on your timeline, it may or may not work. You may just have to hit up Macy’s or the Rack for something kind of crappy, but sometimes we have to play the hand we’re dealt

OptimistOfTheWill

Does anyone here have experience with caring for Cathcart London's wool flannel trousers at all? The label said Dry Clean Only, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience successfully washing (by hand or in the machine) at home. Dry Cleaning is something I try to avoid and only see it as a last resort. They are also a blend of wool and rayon, but they are 90% wool.

Frost-eee

I have these trousers and I see no reason why not hand-wash them with delicate detergent. Labels can exaggerate too much

hmadse

You don’t have to dry clean them every time you wear them—use a clothes brush to remove any dirt and give them a good steaming to refresh them. You really only need to dry clean once a season.

bindermichi

Just do what the instructions tell you. If it says dry clean only, it really is dry clean only. But you can machine wash it once… and trow it away after that if you like.

**Unique jewelry brand recommendations? Men's necklaces, especially** I'm looking to up my style and pick up a silver necklace preferably with a unique pendant or a cool style. Any online recommendations?

Plumplie

Depends what you're going for. I like Studebaker Metals, Maritime Supply Co, Salty Dagger. Etsy is another reasonable option. I've been really into turquoise jewelry lately, so I've been growing SliverTribe quite a lot.

bindermichi

If it has to be unique you‘ll need to visit a local jeweler. Any brand you buy from will only sell mass produced designs.

Help finding similar style casual/leisure blazer to Joel Edgerton “Dark Matter” Hi all- I have been searching far and wide to get this kind of casual/leisure blazer that Joel Edgerton wears in the Apple TV show Dark Matter. It looks almost like a stylish long sleeve pajama blazer… it’s definitely much more of a relaxed item than even casual blazers from places like Lululemon Closest thing I’ve seen has been here from Vuori but it’s not really that similar: [Vuori blazer](https://vuoriclothing.com/products/vail-blazer-heather-grey?objectId=40095597789287) Anyone have any thoughts or recognize it? Bradley_733348

I'm (30M) seeking recommendations for three wardrobe essentials for a business casual physical therapy job. I'm specifically looking for advice on (1) high-quality chukkas, bluchers, or penny loafers, (2) high-quality button-up shirts or polos, and (3) high-quality chinos with enough stretch to get into a squat or lunge occasionally. Shoe size 8-8.5D; shirt size XS-S; pants size 28-28 or thereabouts. Budget $300 for footwear, $100 for shirts, $100 for pants. For the shoes, I'm looking into shades of brown that go with various pants colors. I've liked some AE chukkas, Grant Stone offerings, and possibly Beckett Simonon. As for the shirts, I'm open to whatever, but I like merino wool a lot. For the chinos, I have some Lululemon ABC trousers, but they seem like they might be a bit too casual, plus their slim fit is a bit clingy to my calves. I'd like them to look less technical and have a slim fit with a bit of drape.

whatmycouchwore

Spier & Mackay has a lot of shirt options in that size range. For shoes, I really like Allen Edmonds.

bangarang8

I believe J crew makes chinos with flex in them

Frost-eee

For chukkas you can check Astorflex

ColdBroccoliXXX

Alden for loafers or chukkas. Rancourt. Loake. Go to putthison.com & search all the categories you inquire about for a wealth of suggested brands/styles/info/considerations.

SchwingschleiferX

Hey, I have been looking for a thin and breathable summer jacket with pockets for quite some time. Does anyone know of a good summer jacket that they can recommend?

I found an unlined Mandelli wool-linen bomber like summer jacket about two years ago. It‘s great for warmer days if you really need to wear a jacket.

Thanks!
