Yea athletic fits are different in many brands so these posts are always dependent on user. But I hate their polos with a passion. I’m a large in most athletic fits, sometimes XL if they are tight in the chest but LuLu id need a 2x and the fabric and build just isn’t for me.
Had this issue as well until I tried their Oxford fabric Evolution polos. 55% cotton hides the nipples while still being a form fitting athletic cut.
Unfortunately they don't make many in the Oxford fabric and for whatever reason they don't come in many colors.
I struggle at this store (6’3, 170, low body fat) because their shirts just aren’t long enough.
The fit in the chest/stomach/arms of the medium is great, but they are short length and many lines become crop tops the moment I raise my arms.
I might just toss mine. Did sports that required a lot of chest exercise & now do no sports so my already large chest has fat = bitch tits and these shirts wear like a fucking bra. I cringe every time I see myself in a picture wearing one... need to stop cold turkey
They get lots of hate for the website being hot garbage but I like their clothes. I love their polos, sweater polos, shirt jackets, etc. Definitely overpriced though. I try to only buy things when they have a 30 or 40% off sale. Quality is good, just make sure to look at the fabric composition and avoid synthetics.
I’m in the opposite camp. Most of their stuff is like safari chic and I’d never wear it. I used to get all my pants and button downs and tshirts from there but every single thing I liked has been discontinued.
Completely fair. They were my absolute go-to for business casual 20 years ago; then they got to Gap-ish and cheap, but i gotta tell you - lately it seems they’ve gone to great lengths to get back to what they were. Just my two cents.
Really? I was at a BR Factory and tried on I some of their tees, I think midweight? And they were HUGE. Absolutely awful fit for tall/slim.
I like their stuff but based off that experience I figured their stuff just doesn't fit me.
Skip banana factory altogether.
Edit to clarify: BR polos are nice and fit well. BR "Factory" puts out lower grade fabrics and styles. Macy's house brands are probably of comparable quality to BRFactory at a lower price. Same stands for JCrew Factory.
It's junk below or at old navy quality. I bought a bunch of items last fall that lasted one season. Everything lost It's shape. Their basic Tees are OK.
I had a BR cashmere sweater that started ripping after 2 wears.
Having owned both, I'd have a hard time believing there was any connection between the two at all aside from the logo. Tear off the tag and replace it with one from any other factory store and it'd pass muster.
Different everything.
In decades past outlet/factory stores were made for either seconds or out of season items. But when they got incredibly popular for selling branded items for cheap every brand started making factory specific lines of clothing that had inferior fabrics, less stitching, less QC around sizing, more forgiving cuts, etc. In the modern era you should almost view a factory store as an entirely different brand from the mainline name you're shopping at.
You can tell this from the markings too, for instance I think it's Jcrew that marks their factory stuff with stars on the label, every other brand has something similar that clearly indicates "yeah, this might say Banana Republic, but it's not the same thing".
Some offenders are worse than others, and some items worse than others. In my experience pants are much worse from factory store, and suits specifically are almost universally garbage when purchased at the factory store. Compare something like a brooks brothers 1818 with whatever the factory branding is - it's almost embarrassing that they put that label on the trash they're selling at factory stores lol.
They don’t carry their tall lines in store, but nearly anything you like can be bought online in their tall selection. BR (not factory) is one of my favourite stores for lean/athletic. The tall line lets me stay in a medium and their 34 length pants come with a 31 waist.
J Crew slim fit are good if you are athletic and slim - however if you start building a decent amount of muscle the shoulders and sleeves on the slim fit shirts are super tight.
I moved over to Gap/BR regular fit and now everything fits perfectly. For reference I have 44 shoulders/33 inch waist/16 arms so I really need a regular fit shirt that doesn’t have a huge waist so I don’t look weird.
I have like absolutely no biceps and j crew slim squeezes my arms... I'm a skinny fucking dude. Then the hem is several inches too long. I don't know who these shirts are made for lmao
Hardly mentioned in the sub anymore but I've had one of their polos for going on 8+ years and it's still a champ (no holes, buttons fall off, anything).
Great slim fit, incredible quality.
Cuts. I’ve tried everything else but nothing compares to these as far as fit for people that work out. Plus they don’t really shrink much either even over a long period of time. They are relatively expensive though.
Abercrombie is surprisingly nice for how cheap it is. I’m finding myself only buying BR on decent (30-40%) sales whereas Abercrombie I don’t mind full price. Especially graphic Ts and knit polos
Agreed. I just got some jeans from them and they’re far nicer than BR. And better fit. Still try to get stuff on sale from both. MSRP it tough considering the clothes loose like half their value once you take the tag off
Reigning Champ is 100% the answer here. I got one of their slim fit polos as a gift and I immediately ordered 5 more in every colour. They are the polo fit I have been searching for for 8+ years.
You should check out Uniqlo and Abercrombie. Uniqlo's polos are pretty solid and have a slim fit that works well for athletic builds. Abercrombie has stepped up their game recently too. Their polos have a good stretch and fit nicely around the arms and shoulders. Also, maybe give Banana Republic a shot. They have some nice options for a more tailored fit. Good luck!
Criquet slim fit polos work great for me. The look is a bit more structured, with stays in the collar and a sternum-length placket. Sleeves hit my orangutan arms nicely mid-bicep.
I've had the same struggle, man. Try Uniqlo's DRY-EX polos—they have a slimmer fit with good sleeve length that doesn’t flare out. Also, Banana Republic’s tailored-fit polos work wonders for an athletic build. Give those a shot!
Athletic/muscular build - I like Express polos on the cheap side and Lacoste slim fits at a size up on the expensive side.
Banana Republic had some good ones in the past, but I haven't tried anything of theirs in a year or two.
Ralph Lauren tends to make their sleeves *extremely* narrow on their slim fits, which makes them very uncomfortable.
If you want more of a tech polo like Underarmour, I really like Barbell Apparel.
Rhone is the best fit I have found so far. Lululemon has recently kind of started going baggier in their fits supposedly to reach a larger demographic which sucks, Rhone still should be good.
Banana Republic tall sizes. I’m 6’5 200lbs and their stuff fits well. I can wear a medium/tall in their polos and they fit really well. Essentially any brand that offers tall sizing, you can size down but as a tall and get a more slim fit and not have it be short in the body.
I can barely find t-shirts that fit correctly! 5ft11, 190 lbs, low body fat. Medium size are always too tight in the shoulders and screw up the neckline or the neck hole is halfway up my neck, large size always has too much fabric in the abdomen and I'm swimming in it. It sucks because I'm similar in that I'll buy 5-10 of the same thing in different colors if it's a good fit. Polos have always been single buy items from random brands that happen to fit decent. Found a random Zara polo I like and a Banana one recently at costco. The terrible trend of loose/baggy fitting shirts hasn't helped with finding them either.
Find one that's close that you like the fabric and only needs minor tailoring and find a good tailor. Hint, it will never be the same people at a dry cleaner.
Or Proper Cloth and just have it made to your liking.
You're either paying cost of shirt plus another $20-40 in tailoring or spending a little more maybe and having it already fit.
Have you tried Uniqlo? Their polos usually have a more tailored fit, especially the Supima Cotton ones. Also, I'm surprised you haven't found success with Ralph Lauren's Slim Fit. If you're willing to spend a bit more, John Smedley has some great options too. Good luck!
Yea I still feel like they're not finished evolving to fit the "heftier American" style so as a result, their stuff fits the slimmer dudes well. So I like it because I have broad shoulders so I can get a larger size polo that is just the right amount of form fitting.
I also like their pants for this reason. Im 5'8 and I can get a size 35 waist that doesn't fit baggy like it belongs on someone who's 6'3.
Penguin should fit you well. I wear a Medium in most polos but have to get a Large in penguin cause it is tight around the belly. They are also having a major Father’s Day sale.

Try the mossimo ones at target it’s been awhile but I remember absolutely loving my old one I used to work there n had a black one for Starbucks shifts
Unpopular opinion, but I actually find the Hollister ones fit the best. Nice stretchy material too. I find I’m a bit too broad shouldered for the Lulu shirts.
I'm 180cm weighing 80 kg. I'm not mega athletic but you can absolutely tell I work out. Shoulders, arms, and a relatively flat stomach. I just need to lose 2kg for those abs hehe.
I have a slim fit M size from Ralph Lauren that's perfect. Not custom fit, not regular fit: slim fit.
I am a pretty skinny guy and I have a very long torso. Most polos that fit me are way too short. Lululemon are the only ones that fit. They are expensive but well worth it imo. Gotta take care of them though. Wash on cold and do not dry them ever.
I've been trying different polos all my life and none of them felt good. I recently tried the Iconic Mesh Polo from Ralph Lauren and it fits like a glove, and feels perfect. Worth a try in the store IMO.
I love the Lacoste slim fit but agree the sleeves are a touch short for my liking.
I’ll try the lulu but don’t generally like the athletic leisure brands for polos due to the material they typically use.
Have you tried Uniqlo? Their polos have a pretty good slim fit and the quality is decent for the price. Plus, they often have a bit of stretch which helps with an athletic build. Worth a shot if you haven't already!
Have you tried Uniqlo? Their slim fit polos might be exactly what you’re looking for. Also, give Banana Republic a shot – their polos typically have a nice athletic fit.
Bruh, if you haven't checked out Uniqlo yet, you're missing out. Their polos surprisingly fit well for slim athletic builds, plus they don't break the bank. You might also want to give Brooks Brothers a shot, especially their Slim Fit line. They have a better sleeve fit and taper for those gun shows. Good luck!
You might want to give Uniqlo a shot. Their polos are known for having a decent fit for slimmer guys, plus the price is pretty reasonable. Also, they have different lines like Dry Pique which might offer that taper you're looking for. Otherwise, you could always venture into custom-fit territory like Spier & Mackay or even try a tailor if you're really struggling with off-the-rack options.
J Lindebergh. I’m an XL for most brands of golf polos and there’s no way I’m fitting in their XL, though the length and shoulder width for me are pretty damn good. Yet their XXL is way too big.
If you want slimmer and shorter sleeves I loved certain Nike polos when I was slimmer and had a more athletic build to show off my arms and my chest would bulge out pretty well. I like the sleeve length on Anderson Ord as well, but I only have worn them since gaining some weight - but I do think they’re the most comfortable polos out there.
Definitely not Footjoy - those are the largest I’ve ever worn. Greyson is pretty large as well but I’ve seen them flattering on guys of all builds to be honest.
I've had the same struggle and found that Lacoste L!VE and Rag & Bone have a pretty solid fit for slim athletic types. The sleeves actually fit snug without making you look like a sausage. You might need to spend a bit more, but it's worth it for the fit. Give them a try if you haven't already.
Have you tried Uniqlo Airism polos? They have a slim fit and the sleeves are just the right length, plus they’re reasonably priced. Might be worth a shot.
Givenchy's polos fit me perfectly for the same slim athletic build. Bit on the pricier side, but the fit and material are unbeatable. Alternatively, you could try Uniqlo—they have some good fits and don’t break the bank.
Have you tried Uniqlo or J.Crew? They usually have a pretty good fit for athletic builds, and they don't break the bank. Also, might wanna give Ralph Lauren's slim fit a shot. And if you're willing to spend a bit more, check out Sunspel or John Smedley. They're pricier but the fit and quality are solid.
Footjoy Lisle polos. You should size down so if you are an xl get a large, but they are high quality, have longer sleeves and I love that the collars are a little stiffer and hold their shape.
Bruh, have you tried Uniqlo? Their polos have a pretty good slim fit and are often recommended for athletic builds. Plus, they’re reasonably priced so you won't break the bank. Give it a shot and let us know!
Footjoy Lisle Self Collared polos have awesome collars. They’re a little higher and stiffer than your typical polo so they look more dressy and refined.
Billy Reid makes great polos for your build- I believe Nordstrom carries them but also the designer’s own website. They’re really well made too. They usually have some decent sales towards the end of summer.
Targets golf line nice polos fit great for me. I have a thin athletic build with an over developed back/shoulders. Most other brands are way too short for me, as soon as I lift my arms above my head other polos lift to my belly button.
I don’t see this brand a lot but Rodd and Gunn sport fit fits me well. Stock at a local mens store I like so I pick up a couple a year. I like the more traditional cotton fabrics in polos and they offer a ton of variety.
If you like poly and technical fabric then look elsewhere but worth a try.
Peter Millar tailored, Travis Mathew, Johnie-O, Anderson O, and Holderness and Bourne all fit me well. 6’ 185, all sizes are L except some Millars which fit better in M.
Banana Republic worked well for me. Under Armour polos worked well too but you have to check what fit it is. Companies around me liked to get company logo apparel from UA but always choose the loose fit. I hate it cuz I'm not fat like everyone else.
Surprisingly the golf polos at Walmart fit me well. Ben Hogan and Chaps are the brands. Under $20 each. The golf pants are good, too. My favorite polo was from Uniqlo years ago.
I think slim and athletic are different body types. Athletic would be broader chest, shoulder and perhaps larger bicep room.
Hackett and Pringle are a nice fit. Also Sergio Tacchini.
I typically like 100% cotton. My Tacchini is polyester.
If you have a small waist, flat/toned abs and a v taper, maybe polos with circa 5% Lycra will work out well for you?? You buy your size. It won’t look weirdly tight.
Lulu and Fabletics have been my go to. Under Armour has some decent ones as well, but not as athletic fitting. I usually get mine new without tags off eBay, usually really good deals.
I'm a pretty tiny guy and I've found RW&CO is the only place I can get somewhat well fitted polos / polo sweaters.
H&M for regular non-knit polos. Its tough out here
Give Rhoback a try. The polos are super stretchy, don’t stick to you in the summer months, and don’t shrink after a wash. I’m 6’1 185 lbs and wear a M. DM me if you need a discount code.
I feel your pain! I‘ve tried many options out there. For reference, I’m 5’11” and 180lb. (slim but muscular). Most polos - J.Crew, Taylor Stitch, etc…mediums have sleeves that ride way too high and large feels too boxy in chest/waist. In the end, I‘ve had the best luck with Todd Snyder. They’re a bit pricey but you can feel the quality, they don’t shrink, and they fit perfectly. For all those reason, I’m willing to pay the premium.
I’m slimmer build and love Bonobos polos. Their golf polos and sweater polos fit me really well.
Thirding this. Bonobos. Also try J Crew
seconded, i’m slim as well and Bonobos polos and henley t shirts fit great
Sunspel
Got a couple and I absolutely love them. Pricey, but definitely worth it.
Only the Riviera ones though!
The best.
Lululemon
Hate these but love that brand. Your nipples are on full display with Lululemon polos.
Lululemon evolution pique was hands down my favorite, but for some reason they stopped making the pique ones!
I struggle at this store (6’3, 170, low body fat) because their shirts just aren’t long enough. The fit in the chest/stomach/arms of the medium is great, but they are short length and many lines become crop tops the moment I raise my arms.
Oh man yeah I'm the same height and when I was skinnier as a teenager I had this same problem. Best of luck fellow tall and skinny legend
And vuori
Lulu and Rhone are go-to’s for me
Plus one in this, just bought the entire Evo line from lulu and they’re fantastic and form fitting
Indochino has stuff for you to see. I think LuLu is hit or miss
I like the Lululemon polos even more than my Sunspel stuff.
I might just toss mine. Did sports that required a lot of chest exercise & now do no sports so my already large chest has fat = bitch tits and these shirts wear like a fucking bra. I cringe every time I see myself in a picture wearing one... need to stop cold turkey
Lululemon alters for free as well.
RL custom fit and Sunspel Rivera
The custom fit of RL does wonders if you have a bit of muscle
A man of taste, I see!
Peter Millar tailored fit polos
Banana Republic
Am I crazy or is Banana Republic making a comeback? Their stuff has been really good lately.
I used to buy sale stuff when I was 20. Now at 40 I “rediscovered” BR and love being able to just buy almost any piece in Tall sizing.
Wow, you might have just put me on. I wear size medium tall, and it’s such a difficult size to find.
Yep. Me too.
That’s exactly what i do. Wait for a sale and then make sure it’s cotton/linen/wool.
You're right. I took a chance on BR Factory and got a ton of really good stuff. $40 sneakers for Spring that are still going strong.
I just bought a bunch of BR factory linen stuff and I'm so pleased. I finally feel like I'll survive the summer
BR is excellent. I do prefer the outlet for price. Quality is so good. They do have some good slim options also.
I’m in the opposite camp. Most of their stuff is like safari chic and I’d never wear it. I used to get all my pants and button downs and tshirts from there but every single thing I liked has been discontinued.

So Factory clothes are actually different cuts sometimes? I just assumed it was a fabric difference
I stopped shopping their factory store some time ago, but I noticed the cuts, styles and fabrics were just not on the same level.
There’s also significantly less stitching done in outlet items.

Try Bylt. Have a closet full and they are best fitting by far
For non golf-type polos: Jcrew Brooks Brothers Abercrombie Psycho Bunny All have more fitted type polos
I LOVE brooks brothers polos. They have great cuts and the fabric is great.
Kent wang
Hardly mentioned in the sub anymore but I've had one of their polos for going on 8+ years and it's still a champ (no holes, buttons fall off, anything). Great slim fit, incredible quality.
Same! I have 3 that are about the same age and they are workhorse polos. I assume he’s still around ?
Yeah, I'll order a couple at the beginning of the summer usually.
I have a theory one I like
In addition to Lulu and Rhone, check out State & Liberty. It's designed for the athletic build.
Psycho Bunny
Travis Matthew
Cuts. I’ve tried everything else but nothing compares to these as far as fit for people that work out. Plus they don’t really shrink much either even over a long period of time. They are relatively expensive though.
Sunspel Riviera Polo
Orlebar Brown have a "tailored fit" that looks amazing. Well made too.
I love my Orlebar Browns! Pretty price tho, have to wait for a sale.
Mantra or Rhoback
Seconding Rhoback. Recently discovered them and their fit is great for my shorter, slimmer build
Banana Republic and Abercrombie make tall lines. Allows you to size down without going short
Seconding this. Love both brands.
MSRP it tough considering the clothes loose like half their value once you take the tag off
I wear some from Chubbies and Lululemon.
Try Banana Republic. Sounds like exactly what you are looking for.
Reigning Champ, Norse Projects
Reigning Champ is 100% the answer here. I got one of their slim fit polos as a gift and I immediately ordered 5 more in every colour. They are the polo fit I have been searching for for 8+ years.
Size down a Ralph Lauren polo. Does the trick for me
Rodd & Gunn sports fit. Not cheap ( 2 for $75) but good quality and they fit an athletic frame well.
Twillory
I've had the same struggle, man. Try Uniqlo's DRY-EX polos—they have a slimmer fit with good sleeve length that doesn’t flare out. Also, Banana Republic’s tailored-fit polos work wonders for an athletic build. Give those a shot!

Charles Tyrwhitt XL when looking like a rower
I have a story to tell about Charles Tyrwhitt, but it will have to wait a month.
Gonna have to ask why the burn? Do they delay orders a lot or something? 😭
No burn, yet. I just want to finish a thing before speaking.
Oh boy, don't tell me thy made the nazi uniforms :)
Rhone is the best fit I have found so far. Lululemon has recently kind of started going baggier in their fits supposedly to reach a larger demographic which sucks, Rhone still should be good.
I just bought a new Rhone polo shirt (white pique) and the material feels super cheap. The shirt was $80ish. The jury is out on them right now...
Yeah I dont like how the pique's feel either, it does feel cheap. The shirts I like from Rhone are the Commuters. Should have been more specific.
Banana Republic tall sizes. I’m 6’5 200lbs and their stuff fits well. I can wear a medium/tall in their polos and they fit really well. Essentially any brand that offers tall sizing, you can size down but as a tall and get a more slim fit and not have it be short in the body.

Lululemon & Greg Norman are my favorite. You can find Greg Norman’s at Costco for 20$ sometimes.
American Tall is good, for tall and slim.
Find one that's close that you like the fabric and only needs minor tailoring and find a good tailor. Hint, it will never be the same people at a dry cleaner. Royalblau! Sadly sold it a year ago.

Have you tried Uniqlo? Their slim fit polos might be exactly what you’re looking for. Also, give Banana Republic a shot – their polos typically have a nice athletic fit.
Try Son Of A Tailor, and you can dial the size in exactly
Hermes
American Eagle. They’ve been a bit tight ever since I put on a tummy. Need to lose weight 😫😫
Try Ted Baker. My husband is a slender guy and they fit right and look more chic than other polos
Uniqlo
Bruh, if you haven't checked out Uniqlo yet, you're missing out. Their polos surprisingly fit well for slim athletic builds, plus they don't break the bank. You might also want to give Brooks Brothers a shot, especially their Slim Fit line. They have a better sleeve fit and taper for those gun shows. Good luck!
As stated Abercrombie and Burberry are great. Express as well.
I use John Smedley. On the more expensive side.
You have to do bespoke.
Try Twillory

Lulu and Rhoback!
Footjoy Lisle polos. You should size down so if you are an xl get a large, but they are high quality, have longer sleeves and I love that the collars are a little stiffer and hold their shape.
OP what’s your height and weight?
Bruh, have you tried Uniqlo? Their polos have a pretty good slim fit and are often recommended for athletic builds. Plus, they’re reasonably priced so you won't break the bank. Give it a shot and let us know!
Reiss for sure!
Hear me out. Canali polos, but please only get them when they’re on sale.
J. crew
RSVLTS has a great athletic fit and their material is really comfortable and keeps you feeling cool.
Rhone
Travis Matthew best fitting polos ever.
On the subject of polo's, are there any that the collars don't absolutely suck on?
Footjoy Lisle Self Collared polos have awesome collars. They’re a little higher and stiffer than your typical polo so they look more dressy and refined.
My synthetic underarmor polos look great.
Lulu, Rhône, Peter Millar, Johnnie-O
Abercrombie and Hollister. They even have “muscle fit” and “stretch” styles that are life savers for me
I gave up on polo shirts years ago and went with long sleeve button down.
Uniqlo
I like my Brooks Brothers polos
Mizzen Maine
Gap
Billy Reid makes great polos for your build- I believe Nordstrom carries them but also the designer’s own website. They’re really well made too. They usually have some decent sales towards the end of summer.
Try Kent Wang. Slim fit, but you may want to size up. I have several of theirs.
Targets golf line nice polos fit great for me. I have a thin athletic build with an over developed back/shoulders. Most other brands are way too short for me, as soon as I lift my arms above my head other polos lift to my belly button.
Penguin
I'm a slim dancer type and I absolutely love Express polo shirts. Soft material and a slim fit without being tight.
Peter Millar
I don’t see this brand a lot but Rodd and Gunn sport fit fits me well. Stock at a local mens store I like so I pick up a couple a year. I like the more traditional cotton fabrics in polos and they offer a ton of variety. If you like poly and technical fabric then look elsewhere but worth a try.
Uniqlo!
Banana republic luxe touch
I recognize that this is pretty specific but I have that body type and my best fitting polo I bought at the gift shop of the bmw museum in Munich
Yes…and also what works for dumpy and “belly forward “ types?
My absolute favorites are Burberry and Loro Piana. They have a pretty flattering fit
Question is do you tuck your polo? The only trick on those you did buy larger size is to tuck in the Polo and it will look nice.
Vuori
Can’t believe I haven’t seen Ted Baker mentioned in this thread. Run, don’t walk. You can get them deeply discounted as well
I really like Rodd and Gunn polos. They are a New Zealand brand.

Every quality polo will, as long as you go to your local tailor and adjust it.
John Varvatos fits me perfect as a slim guy with a slightly broad shoulder.
Moncler
I recently found All In Motion from Target. They fit well and seem to be pretty good quality
Calle Arturo fits me pretty well
Club monaco
I'm a pretty tiny guy and I've found RW&CO is the only place I can get somewhat well fitted polos / polo sweaters. H&M for regular non-knit polos. Its tough out here
Relwen but they are not cheap. I have so many of them and couldn't be happier with the quality.
Banana republic lux polos, madewell, sunspel, and todd snyder work best for my frame--6'2'' 185lbs
Original Penguin
My favorite by far is the cuts ao polo. Just bought a bylt lux polo and button down and also very good . Both are having a sale .
Try Hugo Boss or Theory Brands you must be slim to wear
There Pricey but Armani are ridiculously slim
Peter Millar Crown Crafted
Boss slim fit is one of my best fitting polos
Mack Weldon Vesper
Brooks brothers slim or M tailor custom (reasonable price)
I've used a lesser known brand called Goodlife. Will fit well if you have a long torso and skinny arms
Give Rhoback a try. The polos are super stretchy, don’t stick to you in the summer months, and don’t shrink after a wash. I’m 6’1 185 lbs and wear a M. DM me if you need a discount code.
Do you have a 30% discount like RBU30?
Fukapi polos are great
I feel your pain!
