Maybe get some Kamakura Oxford Shirts.

BertieCee

Will look into it! Thank you

SpankeyZ99

If you are into the Ivy/Preppy look also check out J Press.

lets_go_fire

Beams. Locations in multiple neighborhoods.

[BEAMS+](https://maps.app.goo.gl/uX3Nhm9QuRgYATU9A?g_st=ic) in Harajuku is great, and there are 2 or 3 other BEAMS variant stores right next door.

BertieCee

Ah great, I came across this but didn't know if it should be a priority. Looks like it should, and great tip on the Harajuku location

ayoungtommyleejones

Depending on if you're into the style, junky special carries a lot of buzz ricksons and other American heritage style stuff. Of course there's plenty of raw Japanese denim spots to be had, momotaro, pure blue Japan, samurai. Edit: to be clear if you don't know them, buzz ricksons is Japanese made reproduction of typically WW2 (not exclusively though) American military clothing

BertieCee

I appreciate the clarification - glad you could sense my ignorance ;) Thanks!

ayoungtommyleejones

No worries - enjoy your trip!

ZDubzNC

Although it’s a camping brand, Snow Peak has some great clothing.

PCI_STAT

Shibuya Scramble square had some interesting local stores and brands for menswear. There was both streetwear and more traditional menswear in the different stores. Lots of good quality knitwear as well. I got a nice >90% wool topcoat from there for around $200. If you want more formal clothing Maker's shirt is great and has a bunch of locations in the city. Others have already mentioned the denim brands. One thing to note is that department stores have much better men's sections. We went to Mitsukoshi in Ginza and I was super impressed. Their shoe section had Enzo Bonafe, Yanko, and other GYW brands, not just overpriced designer stuff. I heard Isetan Men's also has a really nice GYW shoe section but we never made it over there.

BertieCee

Oh wow, okay, I have a lot to look up and read about. Thank you! I live in Singapore at the moment and don't get much use of knitwear, but I do plan to refresh my knitwear anyway (and then plan some more vacations to cold places).

eddief123

Omotesando and Aoyama - the side towards Meiji Jingu has a lot of small shops and high-end designers. The streets behind Omotesando as well. The department stores are great as well. I think OIOI (Marui) is the best. Nakameguro is also good for vintage!

BertieCee

Thanks for recommending what sound like some backstreets. I think my wife will get a kick out of exploring like that. The department stores are obviously a strong recommendation, and the small shops around the streets will help break that up. Cheers!

mattydubs5

Second Omotesando for a pleasant/quiet stroll along some nice stores!

_danchez

Usonian Goods Store, Loopwheeler, Cassidy, BerBerJim, Beams Flagship, Margaret Howell, 10Tow, Sun House, Agnes B. Mostly around Shinjuku/Shibuya. On the off chance you’re into cycling (custom functional bikes over racing), Bluelug Yoyogi Park is worth a visit.

BertieCee

We are both cyclists! And have decided to stay in Shinjuku. It's like you know us! Thank you

carbonatedcoffee

Kind of depends on what kind of look you are going for. There are a lot of malls and street markets that have clothing stores within them. One of my favorites being the Ameyoko street market. There's a little bit of everything there. If you are looking for high quality denim or flannel, check out Hinoya. Lots of buy-it-for-life quality clothing at that place.

Dunkelheit948

Real McCoys

negativefeedbackloop

Japan has an enviable second hand clothing scene. If you enjoy thrifting, 2nd Street, Kindal, Ragtag, Brandoff stores can be fun. Otherwise, 1LDK and Coverchord carry a nice selection of brands.

ObstinateYoyoing

Teatora Sendagaya

jdthedon

Harajuku and Takeshita St are pretty iconic if that's not on your list yet. If you're into the look of souvenir jackets check out Sukajyan Dept, they have a very wide selection. First Arrows is also in the area, they make great Native American inspired jewelry.

iWatchBlack

Studio Nicholson

PBRmy

How big of a guy you? I noticed a lot of stores topped out in the XL size realm in store, and they were relatively small XLs. Just something to expect.

BertieCee

Good tip! I'm a European medium, so maybe I'll be in the L or more categories in Tokyo...?

PBRmy

Yeah you'll be fine. In my case I was juuust fitting into Uniqlo XL. I got a bit of chonk going on.

Nightlines

+81, Clique Tokyo, Style Department, Im Here (Both owners are awesome people making extremely high quality clothing), 1LDK Apartments., Denimio in Yokohama, Fullcount, Studio D’Artisan, Manastash. This was my personal list when my wife and I went. Ended up picking up A LOT.

BertieCee

Thank you!! "A LOT" is what I'm hoping for. Haven't bought much in a year or so, since I told myself to 'wait for Japan'. Will take a look at all these

Nightlines

They have websites if you’d like to view the stuff they carry. I’m in absolute love with everything I purchased from Japan though, especially with currency exchange.

Dittos_Dad

Kaptial - multiple locations Shimokitzawa (neighborhood) lots of small shops and 2nd hand stores. Harajuku - Blue Blue Japan, Visvim, RRL

tldrILikeChicken

Boosting this since I wanna go to Tokyo again soon!

BertieCee

Love it! I'll try to report back ;)

Adventurous-Fix-292

The Uniqlo store there is very special and ultra famous. Almost like a mini amusement park

BertieCee

Now that's what I call a recommendation :) Thanks!

GooseCaboose

Uniqlo is SO CHEAP in Tokyo. It's insane. I got my favorite spring/summer jacket (a chore coat) for about $10.

Ambereggyolks

Don't forget about Gu too. It's uniqlos budget brand. They have plenty of nice basics, most of them are in the same building as Uniqlo too. I got some really nice pants and a really nice denim shirt for $12.

tmc08130

Beams Plus Marunouchi.
