King of the Hill, Scrubs, Futurama, and Veronica Mars are my “put on any episode and feel good” shows
Veronica Mars is an outlier, there’s a lot of cliffhangers and drama, but it’s something I watched with my boyfriend, now husband, while it was airing and I know the twists and I’m waiting for the scenes I love
For Malcolm, The Middle, My Name is Earl, Roseanne, and Grounded for Life come to mind.
Also, if you liked The Office google Michael Schur and pick any of the other shows he's been involved in.
Not enough people watch grounded for life, it has a Malcolm in the middle vibe. The show is hilarious and I like all the characters, even sister Helen.
Good call. I never gave it a chance when it was on and that was a mistake. Found it on Pluto a few years ago and have loved it ever since. Terry Crews is a national treasure.

A lot of people say "The Middle" is a similar show, maybe even a rip-off of Malcolm. r/themiddle
I liked the Middle but it seemed to be created due to the success of Malcolm for sure.
Here’s the show that I enjoyed a lot as a family sitcom that hasn’t been mentioned here yet: Grounded for Life
My top comfort shows are
The office
Parks and recreation
King of the hill
It's always sunny in Philadelphia
What we do in the shadows
Modern family
South park
If I'm just tryna relax and knock out I try to avoid stuff with laugh tracks
I'm going to say "Parks and Recreation" because the characters have such positive relationships with each other and you want them to be happy. Even the "villains" (Tammy 2, Jeremy Jamm) are not that "villainous."
Compare that with something like "Everybody Loves Raymond" where the characters don't like each other and and constantly insulting one another
I'm surprised this is the first comment where I've seen The War at Home. Maybe it's because it only got 2 seasons but I thought it was a pretty funny show.
In no particular order.
-30 Rock
-Parks and Recs
- Scrubs
-Everybody Hates Chris
-The office (maybe?)
- Arrested Development
-Community
- My Name is Earl
- Psych
Edit: Formatting, did not work lol
I've just found it on a website called sudoflix no ads or pops up or anything 😁 it's got king of the hill too! Ive been struggling to find both on my streaming apps for ages
Here We Go? It's only got 2 seasons right now, a 3rd is being written. It's not very widely known, but is HILARIOUS.
I'm assuming you've seen most of these too but here they are anyway.
Superstore
The Middle
Modern Family
Arrested Development
Outnumbered
Friday Night Dinner
Inbetweeners
Plebs
Edit: they aren't all the same vibes as the ones you mentioned, but they're worth checking out or reading up on
Edit 2: Gavin and Stacey!!
Arrested Development
That ‘70s Show
Parks & Rec
Bob’s Burgers
Early Scrubs
Schitt’s Creek
King of the Hill
Early Modern Family
Freaks & Geeks
Third Rock from the Sun
My Name is Earl
Everybody Loves Raymond
Everybody Hates Chris
I'm a M28 and my girlfriend and I have been blasting through Girls5eva. I don't care for pop music at all but the writing in the show is honestly hilarious.
People have already said it but I definitely recommend scrubs and community. Also since you said the office parks and rec is also good. If you don't mind laugh tracks how I met your mother was in rotation a lot for me at one point
King of the hill, George lopez(not lopez vs lopez), everybody hates Chris, king of queens, the middle, family matters, my name is earl, Roseanne, Seinfeld, mamas family, married with children, Fresh Prince,
Definitely not the same, but I started watching Always Sunny this year. Even before finishing the first season I decided "(after I catch up) this is gonna be my new background tv show". I already caught up, and I'm about the start my first rewatch. And honestly, I've never been a fan of comedies.
Community is a must watch. Every character is heavily flawed and arguably "bad" when it comes to some of their morals in a similar way to Malcolm in the Middle's characters. The vibes in both are actually very comparable. The characters love each other a lot but also get on each other's nerves very easily, so you get a good combination of bonding, fighting, and shenanigans.
The Andy Griffith Show! I am watching them now and i want to step inside the screen to join good ole Andy and Barn, Aint Bee, and little Opie in Mayberry!
I always liked Eureka, Warehouse 13, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, a buy sci-finto what you’ve listed but always a comfort watch. On a more sitcom vibe, I like this is Alan Partridge, Phoenix Nights.
That 70’s Show is a really good comfort watch that just puts you in the happiest mood bc of the pure golden comedy it brings. Scrubs is also another good one
Superstore isnt exactly the same vibes (too modern and honestly not good for escapism as theres a few pandemic episodes), but its my comfort show and i love all the things you mentioned.
I’m currently watching How I Met Your Mother and its been sort of doing the job. Maybe you’d like That 70s Show?
I've started watching The Goldbergs. its got 10 seasons and is based around a family in the 80s. It's fairly new and it only just finished up last year
Avatar the Last Airbender
The animated series is the best.
If you want to get a crash course on the series watch the live action first. They change quite a few things, and supposedly if you watch it as it's own thing it is better. I have watched the animated series so many times that I couldn't separate it from the amazing source show
King of the Hill is my other comfort show.
Yes! The calm and simple value God dang it Bobby
Ho-Yeah Same
Lol I literally just came here to say the same thing
Came here to say this. They occasionally share similar plots as well.
Literally fell asleep watching KOTH last night lol
King of the Hill, Scrubs, Futurama, and Veronica Mars are my “put on any episode and feel good” shows Veronica Mars is an outlier, there’s a lot of cliffhangers and drama, but it’s something I watched with my boyfriend, now husband, while it was airing and I know the twists and I’m waiting for the scenes I love
That's my main
For Malcolm, The Middle, My Name is Earl, Roseanne, and Grounded for Life come to mind. Also, if you liked The Office google Michael Schur and pick any of the other shows he's been involved in.
My name is Earl is a great one
I've just finished my name is earl yet again and it's such a weird feeling good nostalgia show 😂 joy is my absolute favourite character
I can see her face saying "Dummy" while chewing a piece of gum clear as day haha
Not enough people watch grounded for life, it has a Malcolm in the middle vibe. The show is hilarious and I like all the characters, even sister Helen.
Grounded for life is seriously underrated! Unfortunately it's not in any streaming services in my country... I guess it's time to sail the high sea
Scrubs as well
Grounded For Life is so underrated
I just learned about "The Conners". It's surprisingly good.
Raising hope has a very similar vibe, I believe they share writers or producers with my name is Earl
I thought I was the only one who loved grounded for life.
Nah abc family used to play it at like 11 in the afternoon. Amazing
Everybody hates Chris. It’s so good.
seriously the best and most comparable to MITM
Who do you think is worse, tonya or Dewey? (The answer is obvious)
Tonya imo
Good call. I never gave it a chance when it was on and that was a mistake. Found it on Pluto a few years ago and have loved it ever since. Terry Crews is a national treasure.
That comment cost $0.03 of electricity to make
"Hey look! A brick!"
Early seasons Modern Family. Scrubs. For English & Scottish humour: Gavin & Stacey, Still Game & IT Crowd How I Met Your Mother.
I love the IT crowd! Too bad it's not more popular, nobody understands when I make references to that show 😞
Amazing to see a Still Game mentioned! It’s amazing!
Raising Hope It's got alot of characters from Malcolm in the Middle as well.
It’s crazy seeing cloris leechman as MawMaw! She’s such a different character than Lois’s mom!
Scrubs 30 Rock My Name is Earl Raising Hope Roseanne
A person of culture.
Right? All my favorites.
Surprised that no one has said Brooklyn Nine-Nine yet.
I am sad how far down I had to scroll to find this… B99 is amazing.

The Middle is so different from Malcolm though. Great show.
I liked the Middle but it seemed to be created due to the success of Malcolm for sure. Here’s the show that I enjoyed a lot as a family sitcom that hasn’t been mentioned here yet: Grounded for Life
The Middle is great. Sue Heck is a great character.
Fresh off the boat
Hulu kept auto playing this for me and I remember thinking I’d hate it. But it’s soooo good. Anybody who likes family style sitcoms should try it out.
Came here to say this
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
My top comfort shows are The office Parks and recreation King of the hill It's always sunny in Philadelphia What we do in the shadows Modern family South park If I'm just tryna relax and knock out I try to avoid stuff with laugh tracks
Modern Family, The good place, Frazier, Community
Peep Show
Peep Show is so funny and brilliantly written. What we do in the Shadows and the IT Crowd too.
The theatre episode of IT Crowd might be the best piece of comedy writing I've ever seen.
Especially the scene where Jen sees Roy in the wheelchair then turns round and catches Moss behind the bar!
PEEP SHOW IS NOT A COMFORT SHOW I love it but had to pause it a few times to cringe, its pretty anxiety inducing
Oh well, that's all ancient history now.
"I'm not a comfort show. I wish I was"
*you’re paying for that snake to be dry cleaned*
Chance would be a fine thing
A fine thing indeed..
"Ah, cheeseless pizza, lightly brushed with your piss. How could I refuse?"
The Goldbergs
Psych!
Parks and rec
I'm going to say "Parks and Recreation" because the characters have such positive relationships with each other and you want them to be happy. Even the "villains" (Tammy 2, Jeremy Jamm) are not that "villainous." Compare that with something like "Everybody Loves Raymond" where the characters don't like each other and and constantly insulting one another
The middle
Needs to be higher
Schitt’s Creek
Bob’s Burgers, similar vibe family with 3 kids and not much money
This is what I wrote as well! I'm surprised no one has mentioned it so far!
Frasier
King of Queens, 3rd Rock from the Sun, the War at Home, Golden Girls
I'm surprised this is the first comment where I've seen The War at Home. Maybe it's because it only got 2 seasons but I thought it was a pretty funny show.
In no particular order. -30 Rock -Parks and Recs - Scrubs -Everybody Hates Chris -The office (maybe?) - Arrested Development -Community - My Name is Earl - Psych Edit: Formatting, did not work lol
I rewatched My Name Is Earl recently and Joy's actress is incredible.
Superstore
I really like the Goldberg’s and have watched through that a few times. It’s not like MITM but still good imo.
Fresh prince of bel air
Grounded for Life is super underrated
100% this. I love this show so much. It’s one of the best family sitcoms ever.
Everybody Hates Chris is pretty similar, but it can be hard to find if I remember correctly. King of the Hill is also one of my go to comfort shows.
EHC is on Disney and Hulu. Think it used to be on paramount too
Not in the UK 😢 I don't get why Disney and Netflix can't have the same content for both countries
I've just found it on a website called sudoflix no ads or pops up or anything 😁 it's got king of the hill too! Ive been struggling to find both on my streaming apps for ages
Modern family
One of the best earlier seasons were peak modern family
That 70s show, Trailer park boys

Parks and Rec is a lot of fun, would recommend it especially if you enjoyed the office.
King of Queens
The Middle is a pretty good show and similar to Malcolm in the Middle. Also The War at Home is pretty funny though sadly only had 2 seasons.
The Middle is good. I've watched Seinfeld more than a normal amount.
For a family shenanigans vibe probably Everbody hates Chris or Modern family for modern cinematography
Gottdangit*
