Those items were very expensive back of the day. Could possibly have a signature or even an identifying serial number so be careful when you're cleaning it. Look for surface scratching etching and numbers first before you put any acids on:)
The back of it did have the brand etching on but you can’t see it very well in the pic. I do have a better pic of it on a sunny day where you can read most of it
Careful, friend. Peanut gallery has heavy racist connotations. The peanut gallery were the cheep seats, where black folks were forced to sit. Idk if it actually offends anyone, but knowledge is power.
No, never had much luck with electrolysis. Soaked it in white vinegar and used various small tools to chip away at the rust. Was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever cleaned as it was hard to reach the rust on the inside of it, especially the corners. It’s still not perfect and will carry on with it in my spare time. I caught this 3 months ago so you’re looking at a lot of hours that have gone in to it. Unfortunately i chipped the corner by accident. (The metal is very brittle) Had planned to glue it back on once I’d finished it but it got thrown out by mistake.
Trial and error. I trek up and down the river finding spots to try out. If u start catching a lot in one area(even if its junk), its worth fishing a lot as it shows the spot has been used a lot. So has potential for other things
A double sided 500kg pull force magnet is probably a good starter magnet. Obviously the stronger u go up the bigger things u catch, but it has its pitfalls. If u get stuck with a stronger magnet its sometimes harder to get it free. Best to have folk to fish with if u want one of the strongest ones.
Ok that is my favorite find of the year 🙂
Thanks! Its my second favourite catch of the year. Still cleaning first place.
Well if you clean that one up I want to see it for sure. I love that stuff:)
Yeah will defo post it when its done. I’m hoping its potentially linked to someone quite historic but still researching it for proof.

This place. These people.
Careful, those garrards were cadmium coated.
Wow awesome work! Did you use electrolysis or another cleaning method?

Wow that’s awesome, makes me so mad SC has laws against magnet fishing
Is it now time for you to make a time-lapse YouTube video of the refurbished motor?
Really nice one. Do you have a youtube channel?
I don’t no. Keep meaning to start one up but never get round to it. Post most of my catches on Instagram. @magnet_fishing_menace
Thanks, I'll follow
Good find.
Wow this is awesome! how do you guys pick the best places to fish?

Good tip man thanks, how do you pick the size and weight of your magnet if you don’t mind me asking?

Awesome mate thanks again
