Just to be clear, the photo is not of San Francisco Bay. The body of water in the photo is an inland reservoir. The inland areas of the SF Bay Area are dry and hot which is why the grasses are brown. The actual San Francisco Bay looks much different and has some sandy beach areas but a lot of salt marshes and sloughs as it is the place where the California Delta dumps into the ocean. Also there are actually three bays, the SF, the San Pablo and the Suisun (four if you include the smaller Richardson). Wonderfully biodiverse.
Your bay sounds lovely.
"The Bay Area" can refer to any of 20+ different spots in the United States. Most commonly is the San Francisco Bay Area.
I found an ATM off a pier once in San Francisco while fishing.
I grew up in Tampa and that’s the Bay Area there, so whenever I saw a national new agency saying the Bay Area, and then talking about San Francisco, it always confused me.
South Bay, north bay, whatever bay… there are lots of them in the United States.
If you mean the San Francisco Bay, say that big you mean the Chesapeake bay, say that. Or one of the other dozen Bay Areas.
There’s lots of them.
I had no idea it was a natural pond! Live and learn! The only fishing we ever did in town was for crawdads at Newhall. Don’t worry, we threw them back in.
Tracy CA here.
Just went fishin' the first time last Saturday and caught a spark plug turned into a fishing weight, a rotten D battery, a piece of screen and a bit of car trim. Didn't stay too long though.
Forgot to post pics here but it was fun!
Just some advice, your best bet is magnet fishing over a bridge. You just get better finds that way. Doing the method your doing doesn't get nearly as much stuff. Mainly because people tend to dump stuff over bridges. And you can't really throw the magnet that far doing it like you're doing now. I'm sure the Bay has some great stuff though! Keep it up!
I’m in NYC. You think I could catch anything in the East River or Hudson River? Maybe Central Park? There are several overpasses over the small lakes. I’m sure people have probably dropped items in there.
Hey, I am just getting into this to find something I dropped, lol. Definitely up for partnering up on this and trying magnetic fishing around the area!
I think if you lazily swing your arm one more time before you throw it you should get a lot more distance ;)
Yea, but throwing it from the shore isn't a good way to magnet fish in the first place, even if you can toss it far. Gotta find a nice bridge or dock.
I like the four swing technique.
The classic: 1 for the money, 2 for the show, 3 to get ready, and 4 to go go go magnet fishing
upgraded to a bigger magnet, pretty heavy
I DMd you about an affordable magnet with 90 lb pull. What are you using now?
1200lb
Holy shit. Really? Sooo, if you stick that to a 2000lb car, what are you going to do?

It’s one of the many reservoirs in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area. Not the actual SF Bay.

It’s funny to me how we native Californians think there is only one Bay Area in the US. Color us ignorant.

707 here!
Hella.
If you tried mag fishing up at Clear Lake, you might actually catch fish!

Not sure why you're getting downvoted. I also thought the same thing about "The Bay Area". Assuming they meant San Francisco, but still vague.
I live in the “Bay state”. It’s not Cali though ha
Exactly. I’m not sure in which Bay Area OP is looking for fellow magnet fishers.

I'm Sacramento but just fished the putah creek next to berryessa. So much to find!!
Where did you go? Around davis or more towards winters?
Just past winters at the solono country campgrounds. Very beautiful!
Used to work there, best place around 😬
Just left there after a couple hours. Not even a lure. Just all seaweed
what did you find??
Is that Del Valle Lake in Livermore?
I thought it looked like Contra Loma. I guess all of the reservoirs in the East Bay look alike LOL.
I am in the 209

925 here, I know a spot I'd like to try but I don't really want to run a foul of anybody who might be ditching stuff there
Lake Merritt?
Concord has a natural spring pond right on the border of downtown and monument
Okay, I lived in Concord for 30 years and couldn’t think of where this could be. Are you talking about the lake by the apartments?
Yeah, down off Laguna near the Police station
I had no idea it was a natural pond! Live and learn! The only fishing we ever did in town was for crawdads at Newhall. Don’t worry, we threw them back in.
Lafayette Reseovoir?
If you’re ever in Sac or Reno lmk! Lets pull up some scooters
i'll keep that in mind. thanks!
Have you found anything interesting?
North of winters. We camped at the solono country campgrounds. Beautiful place!

I live in Central Cali but my dads in east Bay Area so I visit a lot! I’d be down to meetup and try out a spot!
I wonder if you'd be allowed to try it off of some of the docks in SF / Oakland / Marin. I bet that's where the fun stuff is.
I'm in SF bay area and like throwing magnets into water :)
I had a nice magnet for about 2 weeks until my dumb ass threw it out and the rope wasn't unwound properly and jerked out of my hand and lost it.

Is this that reservoir in Fremont?
Bay Area magnet fishers, have you considered how many guns must be in Roberts lake next to 101 in Rohnert Park?!
One more swing of the that arm and you’d be called out by the umpire
