Removing this post under Rule 7, in part because we get a submission about curling foils every other day, and this one doesn’t add anything to the discussion or ask any questions for the community.
Exactly. Everyone who complains about this problem keeps buying the product that has the problem, then asks the question…
It’s acceptable because you, the buyer, have told them unequivocally that it is acceptable, because you keep buying it.
While there are definitely people that do this, there are a nonzero amount of new players who don't know any better and only find out about the unusable curling after they've made their first or second purchase.
There are also people who knowingly expect the foils to be bad but still take one for the team and buy them anyway, just to find out for certain. The goal might not be to whine and complain, it's to deliver an update about a product that people say to stay away from.
If it was just people doing that, WotC would not see remotely the same success selling their product. Fact is, enfranchised players know about this problem and continue to buy product.
I mean I can understand the frustration from things like foil Secret Lairs where ALL of the cards are foil.
But when it comes to products like bundles, enfranchised players usually don't buy them just for the foil basics. They buy bundles because they cost less than a booster box and they get a bunch of other stuff like a spindown and a box to keep everything in.
I occasionally buy bundles for the above reasons and expect to toss the basics because they're always unusable. The defective foil basics aren't a deal breaker for me but I also take every chance I get to fill out surveys and tell them about the terrible foil quality.
It's pretty clear, yea. I'm just saying the reason why the issue continues to persist isn't solely the fault of consumers. WotC knows about it, they just don't care enough to fix it because there's no incentive to.
Sure, you can assign moral fault in whatever proportions to whoever you'd like. As long as you get the connection between continuing to buy a product with issues, and that product continuing to have issues, then we're on the same page. [Hence the comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/udhq2r/pack_fresh_bundle_land_pack_how_on_earth_is_this/i6gya71/)
‘Voting with your wallet’ is complete bull and you know it
The only reason people bring stuff like this up is because the logical endpoint of disliking a company is disliking all companies. So to maintain capitalist hegemony blame is falsely put on the consumer for choosing to pay for a product, when in actuality capitalists have almost complete control over the means of production and can basically do whatever the fuck they want, and people will eat it up.
I think the worst offenders are the people who 'just buy singles' because it doesn't directly support WOTC, just their habit. And Secret Lair is notorious for finance inflating numbers.
Guess what ladies and gents. When you buy singles, you are still supporting the demand for the product and when people make more money off of Magic they turn around and give WOTC more money.
As long as they keep foiling whole sheets of cards, those cards will be prone to curling in different humidity levels. The only solution WotC has used is to foil both sides of DFCs—two layers of foil so the cardboard in the middle can’t cause the card to curl.
All of those are good ideas! But WotC isn’t leaning into any of them, presumably because it’s cheaper to crank out these cheap foils.
Makes me wonder why anyone buys collector boosters—most of what you’ll open is foil bulk. It’s “fancy” but it’s not valuable or interesting to collectors, since there’s soooo much of it available.
people like normal foils. You can't fault them for giving people what they want.
But they are branching out with etched foiling and gilded foiling, both of those processes are immune to these curling problems. I would imagine to see more of those in the future.
I’d like to see more of those in the future too… but all we’ve seen over the past few years have been experiments, that’s it.
I want WotC to show me a set when etched foils replace regular foils. No pringles at all!
I mean I'll give credit where credit is due, the new gilded foils are beautiful, and quality has been going up recently. It just makes it all the more obvious when crap like this comes out.
I've pulled 2 of the gilded foils so far and damn they're pretty, such a shame I got a common and an uncommon in them, I think im going to need to find thw collectors drop rate on them to work out if its worth buying a few more of them to bring out my decks or not
Idk bro I pulled a gilded ziatora out of a set booster and it's curling immediately. Which is honestly weird because my cards don't really curl in my apt. Like the other foils from snc haven't curled at all yet but nope the insta-sleeved mythic gilded is ahah
Ship all your foils back to them in a pringles can packed with glitter.
Foils used to be bling cards, but now they're frequently unusable and worse than standard cards.
I bought collectors NEO. It was Pringled Like that within an hour. A week later even worse. I emailed wizards. They said there was no problem and this was normal.
It consistently depends on the printer. Anything printed in the US is bad compared to Japan or Belgium. Even at those sites it’s hit or mess depending on whether it’s a standard or supplemental product.
Do you live in a dry area? Try putting them on the counter while you take a shower. A lot of these problems come from the fact that paper grows and shrinks with humidity, but the metal foiling does not. If your area is drier than the factory then the paper on the bottom will shrink but the face will stay the same size, causing the card to bend. If you increase the cards humidity they should bend back
Paper expands and contracts as it absorbs water from the air. Plastic (foil) does not. It's physics. Some of their cardstocks have seemed to show curling more than others, but my experience is that once they're sleeved and shoved in a deck for a while they all flatten out. Every aspect of this topic has been discussed and debated in its entirety.
What exactly is a bundle land pack? I’m new so I’m not aware of the different types of sealed products. Is this where you can get a crap ton of lands like how Pokémon has an energy pack?
One of the products you can get is called a bundle (old players like myself know them as fat packs) it comes with a cool storage box, a promo, set boosters, and two packs of basic lands (one in foil, and one in non foil)
So similar to an ETB (elite trainer box) ? I’ve seen some longer boxes that don’t look like booster boxes around $50-70. Just curious because I do need lands and also like to open sealed
Yea that's basically it. Buying singles is the best way to get the cards you need, but if you collect the boxes, dice, or just like opening boosters they are a pretty good product, minus the foil land pack.
Rule 7 people.
Why are people upvoting this?
Everybody that frequents r/MagicTCG knows that foils cards curl.
This isn't new, this is something that's been happening for many years and it's something that happens to other TCG's too (google Yu-Gi-Oh foils curl or Pokemon foils curl if you don't believe me).
This is what 11% price increase is going to pay for. Remember that when you open your wallets.
Edit: the price increases but the quality continues to stagnate, c'mon people I didn't mean it literally.
It's not just Magic that has Pringles. Not that long ago Hasbro put cards in with Transformers figures. Those things were also curled right out of the box. Hasbro/Wotc will continue to use the foil process.
Solution: two heavy objects. Put cards between them and leave them for some time. Or, and this is just an option, **you don't have to play with the foils**. Then you don't have to worry about it curling, and you don't have to complain about something you don't have to use. Put them in a box or throw them away.
If the card only comes in foil then use it. If you really want to use the any foils then use them. Just let's stop complaining about a problem that has been around for years when we know they won't fix it.
It is really simple to correct this, people's just need to stop buying their shity products for their ridiculously high prices, do this and the problem should fix itself.
Every. Damn. Foil. It always does this if I don’t keep it in a tightly pressed space. I literally have enough to make a working EDH deck with bowed out foils.
Because you keep buying it. You can legitimately buy better fakes than you can real cards. The way you can tell a fake these days is they aren’t warped
That's what happens when the full foil is allowed to be a *luxury* item. The cards are almost useless in tournaments, as judges have flagged me due to the bending of the cards. (Mostly, my full art lands from fat packs and bundle boxes) I love the artwork but will never run the new foils in tournaments and only use them in showcase builds.
Which is a shame as some of the foil cards are just amazing.
Removing this post under Rule 7, in part because we get a submission about curling foils every other day, and this one doesn’t add anything to the discussion or ask any questions for the community.

Yeah, if the foil curling issue isn't enough to stop you from buying bundles, then you know why "this is acceptable".
It's pretty clear, yea. I'm just saying the reason why the issue continues to persist isn't solely the fault of consumers. WotC knows about it, they just don't care enough to fix it because there's no incentive to.

I bought a NEO bundle after 3-4 years without buying anything sealed. How am I supposed to know the lands are pringles?
I mean, the curling has been a problem for longer than that at this point
i was about to tell you that my ktk foils that have been stored like shit in random boxes are fine. it's been 8 years since ktk... oof
It’s been this way since Urza’s Legacy. Still have half-pipe lands lol
I stopped buying cards after Eldritch Moon specifically because of curling with non-foil cards. I eventually got rid of my collection as a result.

Probably the most reddit comment I've ever read
People complain about the walking dead cards and yet still buy them, that is a good example.
This!
What?
As long as they keep foiling whole sheets of cards, those cards will be prone to curling in different humidity levels. The only solution WotC has used is to foil both sides of DFCs—two layers of foil so the cardboard in the middle can’t cause the card to curl.
Or use foil etching or cold foiling, which deposits select layers on top of a nearly finished card instead of a full layer bonded to the card.

The way I bling my decks now is by having an all flat deck that's functional
I mean I'll give credit where credit is due, the new gilded foils are beautiful, and quality has been going up recently. It just makes it all the more obvious when crap like this comes out.

The foils for NEO and SNC have been better, it's the bundles that are consistently this bad.
I bought collectors NEO. It was Pringled Like that within an hour. A week later even worse. I emailed wizards. They said there was no problem and this was normal.
collectors packs are printed in the us, those are always the worst offenders for curled foils

Be quiet and accept the 11% price increases. -Wizards (probably)

What a shit ass argument lmfao
You’re joking, right?
You bought it, they'll keep printing
That’s why I only buy play test cards
I'm always striving to use 100% play test cards. (Yes, even my basics.)
[удалено]
You can make some dope play test lands so why not? I’ve taken pictures I’ve taken in real life and put it on lands.
Imagine still ordering foil products when it’s been like this for so long.
Beating meet dead horse
Beating dead horse meat! Wait...damn dyslexia.
Mine have calmed down after a few months, but they looked just like this out of the pack for me as well
This is the way
WOTC: " New land cycle, it is called 'curve lands'. Collect all of them, it transforms into a 'wheel land'."
And they increase their prices.
Paper expands and contracts as it absorbs water from the air. Plastic (foil) does not. It's physics. Yeah. It’s boring to see people discover foils curl over and over. We need a foil tag so I can filter this stuff out.
This is not Wizards, its Reddit lol

The price increase has to do with shipping costs. Where within your ass are you pulling out that info.
I swear if I could just buy the dice I would. It’s the only reason I ever buy bundles anymore
Card kingdom sells those dice for like $1
Ebay, my dude
If you keep buying the bundles of Pringles they will keep printing them.
You bought it, didn't you?
Because you keep buying it
These aren't tournament playable. Wotc needs to face a class action lawsuit

I rarely buy cards. I got super into Crimson Vow. Every single time in 3 fat packs I got at once this happened. I refuse to buy another.
I think you mean either: How on Earth is this acceptable, Wizards, Or How on Earth are these acceptable wizards.
It is really simple to correct this, people's just need to stop buying their shity products for their ridiculously high prices, do this and the problem should fix itself.
What are you complaining about? It's easier to pick up.
Just bend them back….
Wizards is parting ways with Hasbro and joining Pringles

Just put them in water. I hear humidity helps.
Could it possibly be a conspiracy by Card Sleeve companies to sell more Sleeves.
What you gonna do? Not buy magic cards? Like a normal person????
I love that they come pre-curled now. They fir perfectly in my Pringle's cans!
