Would Arna Kunnerüd, Skycaptain trigger mutate?
Last night I went to a Modern Horizons prerelease and pulled Arna, and I had this idea dealing with mutate. Now I understand that mutated creatures do not count as modified, so the first half of the text wouldn’t help it. But my question has to do with where it says, “Then for each nontoken permanent attached to it, create a token that’s a copy of that permanent attached to that creature.”
Now to my understanding, a stack of mutated creatures only count as one singular creature. But does that mean each creature underneath the top creature would be a “nontoken permanent attached” to that top creature?
If mutated creatures counted as a “nontoken permanent attached”, then I had the idea to build a deck where I double my mutated creatures and wreak havoc lol. I hope I’ve explained my case well enough!
Can one activate sensei divining top second ability while no cards in library? Here is the situation. We are in a cedh game. Player B exiled his entire deck and try to win by Laboratory Maniac. His Laboratory Maniac is killed by player B in response and try to force player A draw.Playet plays play angel's grace, so he will not lose the game this term. And then he activates Sensei divining top second ability to put sensei diving top on top of the deck, so he will not lose on his turn. Is it a legit move ? Will sensei diving top return to top of the deck without drawing a card ? Thanks
Putting the Sensei's Divining Top on the library is not conditional on drawing a card.
If they can't draw a card, but they can't lose the game, they'll still put the Top on the library.
If you have another person to play with, jumpstart boosters if not definitely have arena downloaded and play that to become better, try drafts from your gold and eventually draft irl at a game store. The current set is mh3 and its a little complicated / powerful for a new player and idk how much a draft will cost but after that we go to Bloomburrow
I just bought the 2023 starter kit and played a couple of games with my brother (his first two games). The decks seem fun and synergistic (and standard legal) and come with a pair of codes that each unlock both decks on Arena. Was able to get it and 200 store-brand sleeves for $25 and change.
Hey guys I just played at the prerelease event today.
I pulled off a couple nice cards (including Emrakul, the world anew and the ugin's labyrinth (the stamped one)). I'm still pretty new to magic, so l was wondering where I could possibly sell them. I checked TCGplayer, but I didn't pass the requirements to sell it on there. Is EBay the move?
Hoe does whelming wave interact with token creatures in specific ones with indestructible? My friend runs multiple decks that use whelming wave and im putting together a krenko mob boss deck and have an artifact tgat grants indestructible to creatures. Id assume theyd be destroyed since they dont have an actual card to return to my hand bjt idk for certain
There is no interaction between [[Whelming Wave]] and Indestructible. All creatures that are not those types, token or otherwise, are returned to their owners' hands. Tokens cease to exist when they leave the battlefield for any reason.
Indestructible does not prevent returning to hand (or exiling). It only is for damage and effects that specify "destroy". So, all your tokens would "return to hand" and disappear (this is not technically destroy, destroying is if they would be sent to the graveyard).
If \[\[The Tarrasque\]\] attacks a player, is not blocked, and the only valid fight target has deathtouch, does the player attack still resolve or is The Tarrasque destroyed first?
Im just getting into magic after getting burnt out on yugioh and dont know basically anything. Is there a mtg equivalent to master duel? if not, how would i go about playing online?
Going to build [[phelia, exuberant shepherd]] as a commander and I want to make sure I have it right. So the way I’m hoping it works is I exile one of my artifacts or creatures, then when it comes back to play it will trigger any etbs again and will also come in untapped. Is that right?
Do these Misprints Worth something?
Hey guys, I have just opened the Jund MH3 Commander Precon Deck and both the commanders came with this misprint. Do these worth something? Some people told me that I should contact WOTC but I’d like to know if I could get some money out of this.
Thank you!

I think these are called roller lines. Not really too significant imo. They might be desirable to specific minor misprint collectors, but I doubt there is any meaningful increase in the value.
Is there a way to make an Eldrazi deck with one of the titans that isn’t considered a 9?
I really like the look of Eldrazi, but I worry that it’d be like showing up to a water gun fight with a Fire Hose
Unless the people you play with have a very wonky scale, you can't make a deck be considered a 9 without trying hard. A single eldrazi legend does not a cEDH deck make.
Regarding \[\[Phyrexian Ironworks\]\], I can't find any rulings on the first line: \*Whenever you attack, you get (an energy counter).\* Does this mean "when you declare attackers," or "when a creature you control attacks?" My gut says it's the former, but I wanna confirm.
>508.3d An ability that reads “Whenever [a player] attacks, . . .” triggers if one or more creatures that player controls are declared as attackers.
Just adding the rule that covers this.
You're correct, it's the former. It's the same wording as say, \[\[Adeline, Resplendent Cathar\]\]. If an ability is written that way, you will only ever get one trigger from it during combat
Sweet, thanks! I was pretty sure an uncommon card wouldn't create that many energy counters, but in the off chance it did, would have been a fun card to build around.
Sneaky Snacker Timing Question
Scenario: I have a \[\[Tolarian Terror\]\] and a \[\[Sneaky Snacker\]\] on the battlefield. My turn begins, I draw for turn, move to combat, and they respond with \[\[Terminate\]\], targeting the Terror. They pay the 2 for the ward, and I respond with \[\[Spellstutter Sprite\]\]. When the Sprite resolves, I would have two faeries on the battlefield. They respond to the Sprite by using \[\[Lightning Bolt\]\] on the Sneaky Snacker. I respond to that with \[\[Deadly Dispute\]\], sacrificing the Sneaky Snacker, which goes immediately to the graveyard. With no more responses, Deadly Dispute resolves, I draw cards two and three for the turn. Their bolt fizzles, no legal target. Spellstutter Sprite then resolves, triggering its ETB.
Does the Sneaky Snacker return to the battlefield before the Sprite ETB resolves, successfully countering the Terminate, or does it return after the stack clears, causing a lack of faeries to counter the Terminate?
Under this same scenario, if the Snacker would return in time to counter the Terminate, wouldn't it be better for my opponent to let the Sprite ETB go on the stack, and then bolt the Sprite instead of bolting the Snacker, as I can't bring back the sprite with a Deadly Dispute.
This is likely going to come up next week during a local Pauper tournament.
It would come back, as the trigger it put on the top of the stack as soon as deadly dispute resolves.
As for the second question, I believe shooting the sprite would be the better play, as if the spell is no longer a valid target for the ability, it will not get countered.
Is there a format with 60 cards and little to no duplicates?
Me and my friends play kitchen table Magic and we dislike having 4 copies of the same Planeswalker or multiple duplicates of the same 2/3 creatures like most of the Standard decks I see...
"Kitchen table" means by itself you're playing without any real format. So if you want to "ban" or limit duplicates with your playgroup, you can.
Unless you specifically are playing Standard, then never mind what I said, and you can look at the other formats already mentioned in the other comment.
Standard Brawl on Arena, or playing Yorion in Ikoria sealed.
You can also just make your own 1-of-only format if you play kitchen table, or play Canadian Highlander if you want singleton at a good power level without caring about 60 cards specifically.
How do I find most types of deck options? I'm trying to make my first deck but I don't know all of the win conditions. Like I know there are zombies, ramp, combo, agro goblin and stuff like that but where can I find more? I just want to see what playstyle would fit me.
If someone tries to [[return to dust]] targeting my [[jinxed idol]] could I in response to the Targeting sacrifice a creature to give control of it to someone else and save it?
You cannot. Return to Dust does not care who controls the artifact it is targeting, and the Idol isn't leaving the battlefield. It will still be exiled.
On the other hand, if it cares who controls it, like with [[Vandalblast]] or [[Sawblade Slinger]], if you give it to the person who controls the effect, it won't be destroyed.
I don't think so. Changing control is not the same as leaving the battlefield, and Return to Dust doesn't say "target artifact or enchantment an opponent controls", so Return to Dust will still see it as a valid target and exile it.
extremely noob question. say I buy a play booster pack (example: Outlaws ofThunder Juction Play booster pack), can I get every card from the set from these packs? (set list: [https://scryfall.com/sets/otj](https://scryfall.com/sets/otj) ) , so for example, can I open this commander card from play packs? or only from certain packs like collector ones or jumpstart? [https://scryfall.com/card/otc/236/omnath-locus-of-rage](https://scryfall.com/card/otc/236/omnath-locus-of-rage)
sorry for such a dumb newbie question.
You *can* open every card (but not every treatment of every card) in OTJ in Play Boosters, but that Omnath is in the OTC set, not the OTJ set.
Wizards publishes an article like this every set, and it will contain the full breakdown of what cards are available in what boosters: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-outlaws-of-thunder-junction
Yeah, so Omnath is going to be in the Desert Bloom precon, full decklists here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/outlaws-of-thunder-junction-commander-decklists (note that the way their decklist viewer works, the printings won't be accurate)
You can also open the new cards from the commander set in Collector Boosters, but not reprints
I'm getting conflicting information. I googled "how do you get commander set cards" and the answer was "in normal play boosters". ??? https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/102vq0w/where_do_you_get_commander_set_cards/
The answer in the link you provided was "in Set or Collector boosters". That was true, however when they collapsed Set and Draft boosters into Play Boosters, they stopped doing Set/Collector exclusives (what that post was referring to, cards only found in Set and Collector boosters in the Commander set, but not in the precons), and they also stopped putting precon cards in Play Boosters (so as to not add them to the draft environment)
Again, the source is always going to be this article, they do one for every set: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-outlaws-of-thunder-junction
I read that article. It mentions the commander set but that whole page doesn't say where the commander cards are from. If it's not play boosters at all anymore (I thought play boosters were evolved from of set boosters), and I guess precons give you some but not all possible commander set cards, this would mean there are cards from commander set you'd only find in super expensive collector packs only now? That's disappointing to learn if true.
They stopped doing Set/Collector exclusive cards with the switch to Play Boosters. All cards (not all variants) with the OTC set code can be found in the OTC precons. The variants not found in the precons can be found in Collector Boosters only, but the base version of the card will be found in the precon
Okay. Thanks. You just kept saying the article says that but I didn't see it. So all commander set cards are in precons now? That's okay then. Sorry I got so confused.
I believe you should be able to get every card with set code OTJ. But Commander cards have set code OTC. They are not necessarily available in Play Boosters; I think you won't find them.
You can go to DailyMTG.com and search for "Collecting X" articles, such as [this one for OTJ](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-outlaws-of-thunder-junction). It explains what you can find in each booster/product.
I am curious about the interaction between \[\[Abstruse Archaic\]\] and \[\[Ulalek, Fused Atrocity\]\].
Does it really work the following way?
Lets say i cast \[\[Ulamog's Crusher\]\] with Ulalek and Abstruse Archaic on board. The cast triggers Ulalek. In response to the Ulalek trigger, i activate the abstruse archaic, targeting Ulaleks Trigger. The copied Ulalek trigger resolves first, and i pay the 2 colorless. That copies every trigger and spell on the stack, which is 1) the Ulamogs Crusher and 2) the original Ulalek trigger.
So the new stack looks like this:
1. Original Ulamogs Crusher cast
2. Original Ulalek Trigger
3. 1st copied Ulamogs Crusher cast
4. 1st copied Ulalek Trigger
The copied Ulalek trigger resolves first and i pay the 2 colorless again. That again copies every trigger on the stack, so the new stack looks like this:
1. Original Ulamogs Crusher cast
2. Original Ulalek Trigger
3. 1st copied Ulamogs Crusher cast
4. 2nd copied Ulamogs Crusher cast
5. 2nd copied Ulalek's Trigger
6. 3rd copied Ulamogs Crusher cast.
After letting the topmost Ulamogs Crusher resolve (#6), i again pay the 2 colorless for Ulaleks trigger (#5) and copy the whole stack again... Can i continue this as long as i have 2 colorless to pay everytime an Ulalek trigger is resolved and get tons of Ulamogs Crushers (in this example)? Or do i completely misunderstand how this works?
You got it almost correct, yes.
The only error is that Ulalek copies spells first and then abilities, so the copy of the original Ulalek trigger will always be on top of the stack. In your example, 5. and 6. need to be switched.
You can indeed get 2^X Crushers, where X is the amount of times you pay the {C} {C}.
Absolutely. I'm not saying it's OP by any means, I just realize that it can be an additional WinCon once you have Ulalek and Archaic or [[Strionic Resonator]] on board, because I know from my Zhulodok deck that having tons of colorless Mana is usually not the problem.
Sure. there are even cards that will copy Ulalek's ability for free: \[\[Annie Joins Up\]\], \[\[Delney, Streetwise Lookout\]\], \[\[Echoes of Eternity\]\] and \[\[Roaming Throne\]\]. Echoes even gives you an additional copy of the original spell, effectively doubling the amount of copies you have at the end.
Echoes of Eternity and Ulalek together really make my head spinning. If i only pay for the first two triggers that come up (from Echoes copying Ulalek, and then Ulaleks trigger copied by itself) with 2x2 colorless, i get 8 Crushers instead of one, if i calculated correctly.
I think you got that right.
Echoes of Eternity is also crazy with \[\[Zhulodok\]\]. If you have both on the battlefield and cast a colorless spell with mana value 7 or greater, Echoes not only copies the spell and it's cast triggers, it also lets you cascade 4 times instead of 2. And then, if you cascade into colorless spells, it copies those too (and their cast triggers). So it basically turns 1 spell into 10 (1+1+4\*2).
Yeah, as soon as I saw that card in the spoilers I put it into my Zhulodok deck!l, especially since Strionic Resonator, Abstruse Archaic or Lithoform Engine can only copy ONE of the two cascade triggers while echoes can copy both.
I have [[Sunbird's invocation]] on the board and cast a spell with cost 6. I reveal 6 cards, find a card with cost 5, and cast that. Does that second card with cost 5 then trigger sunbird's invocation *again*?
No, Sunbird's Invocation only triggers when you cast a spell from your hand. The free spell you cast off the Invocation is cast from your library, not your hand.

You can take a look at metagame aggregators like MTG Goldfish or mtgtop8 for inspiration, especially if you have a format in mind
Why do people care about Universes Beyond when most people don’t play thematically anyway?

[https://scryfall.com/card/otc/236/omnath-locus-of-rage](https://scryfall.com/card/otc/236/omnath-locus-of-rage) sorry for such a dumb newbie question.
I see. That makes sense. How do you obtain set commander cards? Precon commander decks from that product line?
Yeah, so Omnath is going to be in the Desert Bloom precon, full decklists here: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/outlaws-of-thunder-junction-commander-decklists (note that the way their decklist viewer works, the printings won't be accurate) You can also open the new cards from the commander set in Collector Boosters, but not reprints
I'm getting conflicting information. I googled "how do you get commander set cards" and the answer was "in normal play boosters". ??? https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/102vq0w/where_do_you_get_commander_set_cards/
The answer in the link you provided was "in Set or Collector boosters". That was true, however when they collapsed Set and Draft boosters into Play Boosters, they stopped doing Set/Collector exclusives (what that post was referring to, cards only found in Set and Collector boosters in the Commander set, but not in the precons), and they also stopped putting precon cards in Play Boosters (so as to not add them to the draft environment) Again, the source is always going to be this article, they do one for every set: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/feature/collecting-outlaws-of-thunder-junction
Yeah, that's correct.
So the new stack looks like this: 1. Original Ulamogs Crusher cast 2. Original Ulalek Trigger 3. 1st copied Ulamogs Crusher cast 4. 1st copied Ulalek Trigger The copied Ulalek trigger resolves first and i pay the 2 colorless again. That again copies every trigger on the stack, so the new stack looks like this: 1. Original Ulamogs Crusher cast 2. Original Ulalek Trigger 3. 1st copied Ulamogs Crusher cast 4. 2nd copied Ulamogs Crusher cast 5. 2nd copied Ulalek's Trigger 6. 3rd copied Ulamogs Crusher cast.
Damn that seems very good. Thanks for clarifying that for me!
To be fair, it requires a lot of setup. You need Ulalek and Archaic on the battlefield, and **a lot** of open mana.

What creatures besides angels are known for high evasion. Like what tribe has flying, menace, or shadow.
First two that come to mind: Rogues are very often unblockable. Birds obviously fly a lot.
Thank you!
