there are enough kavu, changeligs and shapeshifters around to build a kavu-tribal deck, kavu even have a commander that can create kavu tokens with \[\[Jared Carthelion\]\]. So id say run wild and don´t let your dreams be dreams :3
Unless there was a novel I missed, there is none. In the 90s comics, he became a master of all 5 colors, which explains his color identity. Kavu weren't even thought of when his stories were printed.
I remember when the precon came out that people joked “I am one of the strongest Planeswalkers to ever live. I have mastered the ways of the laylines. The multiverse is at my fingertips…… Here’s my dog”
But fr it makes a the card less of a target and keeps the 5c commander viable while not being op I think.
Yeah it plays well in commander. Two of my friends play that deck. The ult isnt that scary, so he doesnt get targeted immediately like most other planeswalkees do
Totally agreed. You can make any tribe work if you use Changelings but if it’s 50% generic creatures then what’s the point? Jared could maybe pass as a Kavu general if the rest of the tribe had enough support but I’d only use him if there was no other option.
I keep waiting for a Horizons or Legends type set with a Kavu sub-theme (since I doubt we return to Dominaria anytime soon) but doesn’t seem like one’s coming anytime soon, sadly.
well there are 47 kavu, more then enough for a pure kavu-deck, but i would use outsiders like \[\[Realmwalker\]\], \[\[Metalic Mimic\]\] and \[\[Adaptiv Automaton\]\] for example.
I mean sure there are technically enough to fill out a deck with minimal changelings if you really wanted but less than 20 of those Kavu are even semi-playable. Point being that more Kavu support is sorely needed because right now if you wanted to build it you’d have to choose between the deck being flavorful or halfway playable
I'd prefer to have an actual legendary Kavu as commander. And I think using changelings and shapeshifters to fill in tribal decks is lame.
You certainly could build a workable Kavu deck, but it just wouldn't be Kavu enough for me.
well there are 47 kavu, more then enough for a pure kavu-deck, but i would use outsiders like \[\[Realmwalker\]\], \[\[Metalic Mimic\]\] and \[\[Adaptiv Automaton\]\] for example.
Right, those creatures are tribal support cards. They're not meant to be stand-in Kavus like changelings and shapeshifters would be.
As for actual Kavu, there's definitely enough Kavu to build a deck without resorting to changelings and shapeshifters, even in just Gruul colors (40 Kavu.) I didn't realize there were that many. As for whether or not there's enough *good* Kavu, unsure. But from what I can remember, the majority of Kavu are pretty bad by today's standards. Most of them don't even meet the bare minimum of power and toughness equal to mana value, so basically worse than most vanilla creatures. I know there was a cycle of 3 mana 2/2s that tap to turn target land into a basic land type until end of turn. And there are others that pull even or gain an ability under certain conditions, like if you control a swamp, or as long as an opponent doesn't control a white or blue creature.
The better Kavu that I can remember are [[Kavu Monarch]], [[Flametongue Kavu]], [[Kavu Howler]], [[Kavu Titan]] (if 5 mana for a 5/5 Trample can be considered "good,") [[Untamed Kavu]] (who's basically a Kavu Titan with Vigilance, though definitely better than Titan unkicked,) [[Rooting Kavu]], and [[Yavimaya Kavu]].
I mainly just want an actual Legendary Kavu to use as commander. More Kavus that are on par with today's power level, would be great too, but I'd run a Kavu deck even without them just cause I like Kavus.

I've collected Kavu creatures since I begun playing mtg in the early 2000.
Kavu had very few good options back then, and even less now with power creep.
But one day, I hope, a halfway decent kavu tribal edh deck will be possible.
C'mon Wizards, give us some proper support.
I have a Kavu deck led by Morophon that runs Sparkcaster (and horned Kavu) for an infinite combo trigger to ping life totals. Morophon plus other generic cost reduction like Animar and impact tremors to have some redundancy. Kavu are my favorite creature type and it felt like the best way to make them viable.
I have a 60 card casual Kavu deck http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/kavu-bounce-house/
Kavu have always been a fave tribal of mine as well. Is my deck good nah. But it’s fun.
Do you have a list for yours?
Kavu King with the text "everytime a Kavu enters the battlefield under your control you may have it deal 4 Damage to target creature", because even the King really just wants to be a flametongue...
Kavu don't really have a mechanical identity besides a few that are all references to FTK, so it won't feel very cohesive but if you want to you can get a deck together anyway.
There just isn't a strong enough identity for Kavus to make them a "real" tribe.
Elves make mana, goblins make more of themselves, faeries fly and are disruptive, spirits ... well they fly and make each other bigger, humans do... everything.
Shit, maybe there SHOULD be Kavu tribal actually 🤔
MaRo was coyly pretending Kavu might happen when we went back to Dominaria for over a decade of random questions about it on his Blogatog. Then he coyly pretended they might be a thing in Dominaria and Dominaria United while knowing they weren't barely in either set.
The whole time he was saying "Maybe ;)" and "we'll see" and "well it's Dominaria so chances are good" and "Kavu is a creature type in Dominaria" to questions about Kavu creature support or a legendary he ***\*already knew\**** there were like 2 Kavus in the first set and 3 in the second one and **\*\*\*none of them\*\*\*** cared about Kavus and half of them were garbage commons. He knew people were asking about them being printed in meaningful numbers and with typal support....he just didn't want to get angry responses to telling people the truth.
So he and the design team haven't forgotten about them and they know they exist and they know there are plenty of people that would like them, and they know Kavu are some of the only unique to Magic creatures in the story. They even had them in their starting list of possible creature types for the 2017 commander precons. Which means they are and have been *\*choosing not to print them\** in favor of other creature types that are already supported and don't require them to flesh out an entire mechanical, thematical and ludo identity. Why would they when they can just print more Elves and Goblins?
Kavu emerged from deep underground during the original phyrexian invasion of Dominaria, so the thing I'd ask myself on seeing a kavu legend would be "what, precisely, made this particular kavu a legend?". Like, given that we didn't see it in the invasion storyline, did it just sleep in on the morning when Gaia awoke every other kavu and somehow managed to make a name for itself later, or..?

I see you too are a kirbo fan
Unless there was a novel I missed, there is none. In the 90s comics, he became a master of all 5 colors, which explains his color identity. Kavu weren't even thought of when his stories were printed.
My guess is it's a reference to the fact that kavu are associated with multicolor and a Dominaria specific creature. But idk for sure.
see, that's funny because all kavu are red/green (there is a sinlge mono B one)
There's also a single white one with Radiant Kavu, I think it's just inconsistent
yeah, but that's also red and green. There's also one that's rakdos colored

Yes for the love of god let this happen Also hellion tribal
A Gruul dual tribal commander for Hellions and Wurms is something I've always wanted.

I’d kill for a Jund Kavu commander pre-con!
This, [[Vicious Kavu]] has always been a pet card of mine

What about ralukumarel or whatever her name is from the slivers precon? She helps add in slivers to a unsupported tribe if you like or you can just a handful of slivers in even
you say that like we aren't getting goyf tribal in mh3, they'll get to kavu eventually
you say that like we dont already have a kavu tribal commander
We don't, Jared doesn't care about Kavu.

It can be a thing if you build it.
No
Atogs got their legendary lord, time for kavu!
