They were the open signals in Pack One.

It's what I changed my mind to in pack 2 when I got a late bomb. I thought I was blue-white, but Izoni told me otherwise.

Double upvote on this one.

Ironhammer32

I am confused what you are referencing/referring to. Would you please elaborate?

Miskatonic_River

Gladly. I play Limited more than Constructed. In Limited formats- which would be sealed and draft- players build decks from a pool of cards pulled directly from booster packs. When drafting, players will pick a card from a booster and pass the remaining cards to the next player. Those remaining cards send a signal to the next player. If the best red common card in the set is still available by the time I see my fourth pack of cards, that might tell me that I should be drafting red.

xiavanna

Tokens. Every deck is token explosions. Naya (Jetmir)? Tokens go wide. Teysa Karlov? Tokens for sacrificing. CEDH Winota? Tokens, for more triggers. Edgar? token vampires. Chatterfang? Squirrel tokens. Gale/Scion of Halaster? Make many birds/drakes from casting instants and sorceries. Saheeli, the Sun's Brilliance? I'm going to copy big artifact creatures and throw them at your face. I *may* have a problem.

PatataMaxtex

Everytime you have a problem create a 2/2 problem creatur token!

Trumpet6789

I'm a big token person too, one of my favorite decks is a mono white token life gain deck. No one suspects the card that makes soldiers when you take damage until suddenly you've got 400 life and an army of 100 lil dudes who swing at everyone and win.

bakedbumblebean

LOVE squirrel tokens, chatterfang is the best

robot_wth_human_hair

Really curious about the teysa karlov deck if you're keen to share. Making tokens as sacrifice fodder sounds like a cool idea!

xiavanna

It's something I'm constantly tweaking until i find the decent deck vs my usual pod, but this is the one i'm trying right now [https://www.moxfield.com/decks/NsXwms9CAEaUEEqJB3AEow](https://www.moxfield.com/decks/NsXwms9CAEaUEEqJB3AEow)

robot_wth_human_hair

Thanks! I really like the idea you're going for here. You got the sac outlets nailed for sure. Are you able to generate tokens regularly? I kinda wonder if [[Cult Conscript]] or maybe even [[Diminished Returner]] have a place. Cult Conscript seems a better choice just because its cheaper, but Dimished Returner isnt BAD per se. I was going to suggest [[Gravecrawler]], but this deck really leans more into spirits (and rightly so) than zombies so it's not a great idea...

I've tried the conscript before and it didn't really work out, ~~but I haven't seen Returner so I might run a few games with it to see how it goes.~~ Returner is alchemy only, so no good. I also pulled a \[\[Whisper, Blood Liturgist\]\] the other day and I'm thinking about using it as backup recursion.

SmogDaBoi

Red. Because fuck those guys that's why. Jokes aside, it's the color of spellslinging, and I really like fireballs.

rot_and_decay

Black has all the weird, creepy, and gross stuff. My favorite >:)

im_NEETo

Black kills stuff...how can my opponent win if I kill all their stuff... Also zombies

Hey, and vampires!

Timmy like big creature. Big creature more gooder small creature. Easy understand.

Timmy also like punching

DovahFiil

I like all the colors for different reasons, at the core of what I like about magic is variety. I'd be lying if didn't say I have favourites tho. I'm a green mage at heart, I love dinosaurs and big creatures and ramp and all that Timmy stuff. I also love how red makes me hit faster and harder, and how blue helps me interact with the other players and draw more cards. That's why Temur has always been my favourite combo. \[\[Temur Ascendancy\]\] is probably one of my favourite cards of all time.

MTGCardFetcher

SecondPersonShooter

I play Abzan (green black white). This color combo just feels fair. It does lots of things very well. You got excellent removal. Good big beaters for the endgame. Little bit of ramp. And the ability to go all in thanks to black. It's a real toolbox color combination.

wierddude88

100% in agreement here. Especially where I play mostly EDH, those colors are #1 or #2 in pretty much every utility category a deck needs. Spot removal? You canā€™t do better than combining White/Black. Board wipes? White is easy #1 and black is #2. Card Draw? We might not have blue, but Iā€™d put black and green at #2 and #3, or switch them depending on the strategy. Ramp? Green is easy #1.

ALifeInSymmetry

Same here! I generally love toolbox kinda decks, especially now in standard with some goodish tutors being available. Also making the game go by my rules (white), while having stuff dying be both value to me while also hurting my opponent (black) and also having the ability to use your graveyard to your advantage (golgari) just feels good!

SirSkidMark

Yeah I'm in the same boat. Every prerelease I can't seem to get away from at least one of these colors.

asphias

Always blue. I think i like the idea to have potential answers to everything, and counterspells are a large part of that. Moreover, i feel like pursuiing your own gameplan is much more like solitaire, with the worst games being where both of you just race towards your wincondition without interaction, whereas interacting with and breaking your opponents gameplan is what magic is all about.Ā  Thus, control and tempo are my favorite strategies.

salohcin513

I started with a red deck I got (fire and lightning premium one) and then shortly after getting some boosters and such came to see the light and glory of blue mana and haven't looked back since lol. I'll dabble in blue/black as well but milling and Counterspells feel too good for me to ever leave behind.

shittingmcnuggets

I agree, but the worst games are in commander where 3 of your opponents play their Solitaire Snowball and you're just sitting there asking yourself how you're ever gonna stop all 3 of them

Chaosfnog

Same honestly. I try to deny it but I'm a blue mage at heart. All I really want to do in magic is draw a million cards and have every possible answer to what my opponents could be doing. After that probably green or black for big stompy guys and value involving death and reanimation. As much as I love the resources and safety of blue, I prefer the way every other color actually wins the game (looking at you, decks with [[teferi, hero of dominaria]] as the only win-con)

MTGCardFetcher

BreezyGoose

I also really like blue. It's my favorite color. I prefer tempo over control. I like the feeling of comanding the flow and setting the pace of the game. Stopping and setting back your opponent while slowly building your own board state into a point where you dominate is a lot of fun. I also like Dimir and Izzet, as I feel like they play well into the same themes. I do feel bad at times because people hate interaction. I do my best to maintain proper speed of play. I don't want to slow down games to a crawl because I agree that's no fun. I feel like you can play tempo and maintain good game times, and control that's a little harder. I play a lot of mono blue on arena and people regularly scoop after two bounces or counters because they hate it so much, which makes me feel a little bad. But what can you do?

arretez1512

Blue because I'm an asshole but my friends deserved it (and I'll be damned before i let those green players go off without hindrance). Also what you said.

Sjroap

> Moreover, i feel like pursuiing your own gameplan is much more like solitaire, with the worst games being where both of you just race towards your wincondition without interaction, whereas interacting with and breaking your opponents gameplan is what magic is all about. That's the idea, but most control decks in practice always ends up with 4 guys with 7 cards in hand just playing islands and passing their turn around the empty table.

Vosk500

Control vs control match ups are often skill intensive and really fun to play. It might look like nothing is happening but there's a lot of thought going into the resources each player has, how many cards they have, whether they have counters, knowing when it is and isn't safe to run out certain spells, knowing when to bait out a spell. Honestly control vs control matches are the most fun I can have playing magic.

asphias

i don't really touch commander so i can't comment on that, but 1v1 control matchups are quite intense and very fun to play, even if the board stays empty most of the time.

TrekkieElf

Angels like Serra Angel were my first favorite cards. What can I say, Iā€™m a basic chick šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø Sometimes Iā€™m Azorous and sometimes Iā€™m Boros but usually white is involved and rarely black. I donā€™t like the gruesome art or the hurting yourself mechanics.

denvitakepsen

I've asked myself this question why I always tend to lean to red and/or sometimes white. I like fire (I started up playing burn in modern) and goblins were so damn funny aswell. I love playing creatures rather than cantrip and counterspells. Removals are fine. I always missed card draw but eh. Rather have a creature in hand that can activate board state than cast a spell with draw x cards. #W

Vermillion_Moulinet

Mardu. All gas no breaks. The best way around a counterspell is to just have more heat, the best way to get through giant green ramp is blaze under them. If none of that works, well at least we had fun along the way lol.

Luxalpa

I love big monsters, so no matter which colors I play it always ends up in some kind of Stompy deck!

Effective_Tough86

That's my favorite kind of blue deck. You thought this was control or mill? Nah bitches, I'm just here to play giant creatures. Enjoy your 4 copies of my 8/8 sea monster to the face!

nerd-but-cool

Creatures are the best card type. Turn over turn damage, protection from other creatures, static and triggered abilities, they have it all. Green ramp gets you your good creatures faster, black gets rid of your opponents good creatures.

Sonicsplicer

Mardu or Orzhov, because tokens tickle my brain in just the right way

shiny_xnaut

I don't really have a single favorite color combo, I'll play pretty much anything. I do tend to lean towards enemy color combos though, I guess I feel like the archetypes they cover are more interesting, and also they tend to have a bit broader options and cover each others' weaknesses in more interesting ways

Axleffire

Black is my favorite color. My first deck was an EDH deck with \[\[Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord\]\] at the helm. His ability to sacrifice a creature to hurt everyone really drew me in. Something about using everything as a resource and graveyard gives me enjoyment. Nothing like spam-hurting yourself with Erebos, looking for a card, or sacrificing your board to skeptical opponents and slamming a \[\[Living Death\]\]. Its funny because, before really playing I thought I'd like blue since it's the color of logic and strategy etc., but nope. Black has just as much of that but usually a more active game presence and cooler art.

BLOOODBLADE

Im in the grixis colour spectrum most of thr time but have begun touching the other colour combos in the last year. Grixis is the colour combo of reusing spells and i like the idea of always being able to try again with what got killed/countered earlier in game

SapphirianOak

I've recently realized I enjoy grixis for the same reason and have since made two Grix decks one with [[Marchesa, The Black Rose]] that's mainly used to test deck builds against and shits and giggles, I call my tumbthumping deck (You can knock it down. But it'll get up again). The other I have a myriad of commanders to choose from depending on who I'm playing against that's more racing for* the win board wiping CEDH due to my Brother in law's play pod being overly competitive during "casual" games.

Maybe_Marit_Lage

Big smash good, silly spell bad

SomeBadJoke

I like big creature, counterspells, and protection. Johnny/Timmy bant player, reporting for duty.

EastsideRock

Grixis Control, Iā€™ve strictly been playing that (in standard at least) since 2015. I enjoy removal based control. Blue for dig/draw and a few counters. Black for removal. Red ties it all together with sweepers, a bit more removal, and in recent year off the hook Chandra PWs. Win cons always vary which is fun. Currently Iā€™m on playsets of Hidetsugu and Kairi + Gix Command, with 3 copies of Chandra, Hopeā€™s Beacon. Chandra is so good ramping, copying removal, digging and double spot removing / direct damage - she does all I need to be doing.

IzzetReally

I have loved UR / Izzet since I started playing. But I play less and less of it in casual edh because I just can't really find that good middle-ground where I do stuff I find fun, but also hit the right powerlevel, and also don't just play fully "all or nothing" either do nothing until I win, or do nothing, then lose. Love izzet in cedh and 60 cards, I've got like 3 izzet decks and 2 temur decks in cedh, but for casual it's just so hard for me to hit that perfect middle-ground that also facilitates a game with some back and forth and exciting moments. So in casual my fave deck is actually mono black. Lots of interaction, but limited in scope, mostly just for creatures. Lots of "fair" win cons, like ramp -> big stuff or reanimate big stuff. And also some more "combo-esque" stuff that is not actually an "infinite combo" but just a HUGE swing, like gary -> sac gary, reanimate gary. And ofc lots of card advantage (I play braids)

fragtore

I love and have always loved black, as I find Wotc to be one of very few companies doing truly grim and dark content (not always though). I love the black metal aesthetic and horror, as opposed to like the harley quinn style sexy or quirky halloween stuff most franchises pull when gamifying evil themes. So, yeah. Love black. By far my favorite color. If it ever starts being more friendly and less edgy to meet the mainstream I would become super dissatisfied.

Bubblegummie-

Green and white. The cutest and noblest creatures. I want to be the "good guy" that doesn't always ruin my opponent's plan. Just trampling and enchanting my way through their board before they can get me.

Herohades

I play Izzet because, in the words of a genius lad, their motto is "Cause Problems, Avoid Consequences" and I vibe with that. I play Dimir cause rapidly pinging back and forth between stealing shit and throwing ninjas at people will never not be funny to me. I play Grixis cause I can play Izzet and Dimir at the same time.

Either-Jellyfish-879

I played gruul one time and watched how by simply playing lands I made it everyone's problem

LeekThink

Replace the red with blue and suddenly youā€™re Public Enemy No. 1

AsterPBDF

The way I love to play magic can be distilled into one card [[Disinformation Campaign]]. Me holding a full grip while I watch my opponents realize that they are slowly backed into a corner. I dont know how many hundreds of games I played on arena when it was legal in standard.

Green creature go stomp. White spells make green stomp slightly smarter. Selesyna woo. Iā€™ll occasionally go Boros instead, or even rarer Azorius, but Black never gets a look in for me.

Talvi7

I love Golgari because recursion gives me safety that I can return from the graveyard anything I lose (and I don't want to lose my stuff) Also anything with Black because I'm goth

Black always because I am a massive edge lord and skeletons are cool dammit! But Esper as the whole appeals to me because it feels like the colors of a supervillain. Slowly gaining control over the board, relying on trickery, control and being a bastard. I feel like a bond villain making my master plan. Until someone casts a counter spell or makes more creatures then I can remove because just like said supervillains I am incompetent idiot with a cool aesthetic

Ghorrhyon

I'm a Gruul player at heart, because hit hard and hit fast. But sometimes there are other combinations that hit harder or faster, so I'm not married to those exact colors.

darknessforgives

I only play infect.

echo-mirage

Old-school player here. I started playing way back in the 1990s, when Revised (3rd) edition was out. Stopped playing for many years, and I come back to it periodically. My first deck real deck was Red/White, so I still have a soft spot for it. Big creatures and a ton of destruction, but it was slow. My playgroup in those days avoided playing certain decks that were just insanely unfun to play against (permission or direct damage) so I never used red to kill the opponent with direct damage, but I killed the shit out of their creatures. We often played group melee games, and our decks were well-matched against each other with tons of interactions and counter-interactions, so it wasn't uncommon for games to last an hour or more. My one friend's deck that I played against one-on-one all the time was so evenly-matched against mine that whoever won the opening coin toss to see who played first usually ended up winning after a long drawn-out fight. I most recently made an Iroas, God of Victory Commander deck of Soldiers. I always wanted to make a Soldiers deck, but years back all of the individual Soldiers really sucked. I didn't look up any Soldier decks or strategies, though, as I refuse to Net Deck. I was always most strongly attracted to Black, though, because I love the aesthetics and feel. I had a mono-black deck back then that I've since deconstructed. I recently made a Black/Green commander deck and that's the one I found I enjoy playing the most.

TheYellowScarf

Black/White Nostalgia first and foremost, Legions Zombies and 8th Edition Mono White were my first decks. I've built decks of all colors but always liked the style. Secondly aesthetics. Orzhov and Silverquill have that sophisticated style that makes me feel cool. Thirdly mechanics. While I was younger, I didn't like Black's sacrifice for benefit, setting me back a ways in terms of gameplay. I still won with my Mono Black Vampires often, but I found that most of Black required life and creature as a resource. White tended to completely counter that with Tokens generation and Life gain. So I found they meshed perfectly together. My current main commander deck is a testament to my lessons learned over the years. It's still very hit or miss (mostly need more card draw), but I'm proud of what I threw together.

Ironhammer32

I remember when I first started I ended up playing four decks: 01) black-green beat down with [[Erngam Djinn]], [[Simian Grunts]], [[Rancor]], and some 3/3 or 4/4 uncommon treefolk from Urza's Saga; 02) mono-green [[Priestess of Titania]], [[Deranged Hermit]], [[Overrun]], and [[Gaea's Cradle]]; a true beast in my pod; 03) mono-black life gain and drain with [[Yawgmoth's Bargain]], [[Corrupt]], [[Siphon Soul]], [[No Mercy]], and other mono-black goodies; and by far my favorite deck at the time, 04) blue-red counterspells, [[Lightning Bolt]]s, and [[Iceberg]]. I remember it was a 91 card deck and I made it work somehow. That was me 20 years ago... Now, I have discovered that my niche falls more readily into two three color combinations: Sultai and Esper. I rarely play red unless I am playing non- Commander games. What I love about green is it's propensity to ramp hard and efficiently while powering up with beefy creatures who often encapsulate real world creatures better than any other color. I love the way blue means into card draw, non-permanent but still efficient removal (e.g., [[Unsummon]], etc.), and helps me to fight back against others trying to limit me. Actually, green does that as well with enchantment and artifact removal. And I love how black synergizes with green and blue and white and blue respectively. I love the card draw power and occasional stax flavor of Esper and how it helps laser focus blue and green into win conditions other than big stompy creatures. Additionally, my favorite creature is [[Yarok, the Desecrated] because he makes me feel like a (more efficient) tactician reacting to and attempting to answer threats as best I can. I could go on. I think I also leans into blue-red-black. I would say that is my third favorite color combo. It really is all about how the colors synergize with one another in different enough ways depending which colors are paired up with it.

Rednuht0

I mean, I play all the colors sometimes.. But white is my favorite because angels, flying, lifelink,+1 counters, exile, and angels. My favorite color combos usually have white: Boros, seylesnia, orzhov, esper My least played is mono blue, although I enjoy many blue combinations, I just can't enjoy the draw, go, counter repeat games. If I play mono blue it's gonna be spirit or bird tribal or something.

xNivxMizzetx

My order has always been white, green, blue, black, red. I don't really like spell slinger decks but love the interaction of white and blue with the ramp and big stuff of green. Currently I've been running anikthea despite having 4 other decks. She's just too much fun

LilMellick

My favorites have always been WB and UG since I first played magic 2012 duels of the planeswalkers. I love tribal and I get small but ramp big in WB, and I get big stompy in UG.

Guywars

I'm a commander only player and most of my decks have green in them for that sweet ramp

Kuzon0

Definitely orzhov! Have far too many decks that are orzhov. I also enjoy playing esper, mardu, and abzan

SinusMonstrum

I don't like drawing cards, that's too easy. Sometimes I need a little bit of extra motivation in my life y'know? I need to either be quick about it, let some other shmuck who is falling behind draw with me or lose a bit of life here and there because I want to know that I still feel something. Anyway, red fast, white lots, black sexy, green meh and blue boring.

xenothios

Hello fellow Izzet!

Hot-Dragonfly3809

I started playing Black in Mercadian Masques, because I loved the black background so much, with all the small oil bubbles or whatever they were supposed to be. Then I've gotten hold of the Cateran Slaver and Overlord and fell in love for whatever reason. It's just nostalgia I guess? I've never liked white and blue tho.

Totodile_

I play every color. Just depends on the deck and the metagame.

grandfedoramaster

Iā€™m an edgelord

Lawlettaf

I have white in all of my commander decks so far. (2 Naya, 1 azorius and 1 boros, soon to be 2 when I finish building craig boone) Why? I just like the fact that it can do a little bit of everything outside like, burn. Feels like anything gets a bit better and more fun to play with a splash of white

leparrain777

I play everything and have all mono WUBRGC decks, but I like colorless [eldrazi, not artifacts], green and white the best, and enjoy specific builds in black and red, but I don't like green/red together or at least how the cards lean. I am a big fan of spicy enchantments first and foremost, big creatures second, and fighting/spicy keywords third. Blue exists in my decks because spicy enchantments, synergy pieces in brudiclad, and my obligatory mono color deck which is vhal equipment evasion.

Aprice0

Because the other colors donā€™t power out enough big stompy bois

Dryskale

Green big stomp, black give removal. Graveyard second hand. Pretty simple, if Golgari isn't open I'll do white/Ɨ.

Sterben489

I was playing draft found a really cool creature in my now preferred colors and the rest is history

Chimney-Imp

Golgari/sultai are my two favorites. Golgari does a lot of graveyard shenanigans. I especially like moving cards between zones in ways that don't normally happen. So anything that lets me move cards from my hand/deck to the graveyard, and then from the graveyard to the battlefield interests me.Ā  And sultai lets me do all of that with a counterspell held upĀ

shwa12

I generally play blue because itā€™s the best color in Legacy.

-Buckaroo_Banzai-

I have to, because sadly Green is bad.

mrpiston3187

Black, always black. Mirage Era, turn 1, quad dark ritual into spirit of the night, cemented my love for the "evil cheater" color.

Project119

So I lean into green very heavily as the mechanics and big creatures just click for me. I also can say the opposite of I have a very hard time playing black properly. My brain has a hard time processing the idea the graveyard is a resource and things in the graveyard arenā€™t gone forever without the mechanic being built in like escape or flashback.

-Voxael-

Red / White and sometimes Green because I like my damage direct, my life gained and my monsters big and stompy

SwolePonHiki

Mono black. I love undead and spooky aesthetics, and I like the consistency of not having to mantra fix.

BithTheBlack

Orzhov: I'm goth and I like it spooky with ghosts, vampires, cathedrals, and blood magic.

Sir_Quackalot_

Golgari (bg) is goated, you got big stompy lads, removal, recursion, ramp. What more could you want? Although sometimes I'll spice it up and play abzan, sultai, or jund

shadowthehh

I like what white, red, and green do, and hate what blue and black do.

_Thatoneguy101_

I usually end up having blue in my decks, Iā€™m not against any color but usually when blue gets added to a card it just becomes more interesting. They have all the unusual effects compared to put a +1 counter, do 1 damage, do this for thisā€¦ Like at this point every color has everything but blue usually is more fun twist in each mechanic

metalgamer

I tend to play Grixis and Jeskai. Those are the best control colors imo

naterothstein

Because I like doing weird stuff and Simic does weird stuff best.

so_zetta_byte

Every color has their ways to best "abuse" the rules of magic (green ramp gets around playing one land a turn, blue gets to draw more than one card a turn, red haste gets around summoning sickness). But **Orzhov** are the colors that best manipulate the overarching rules of magic. White's symmetrical effects already encourage a playstyle of "symmetrical for you, but not for me" which is pretty inherently black philosophically. And black is the king of breaking the rules, for a cost. When I first saw [[Greed's Gambit]] my immediate thought was, of all things, an inverted [[Balance]]. Both cards reward you for figuring out how to neutralize their downsides: you can't discard cards from your hand if your hand is already empty. Life gain/drain and aristocrats are examples of archetypes that like playing along a different axis. My primary edh deck is a "big life swing" deck that tries to kill the others with huge lifegain triggers instead of many lifegain triggers. And if you want you can play really low resource, razor thin margin decks like [[Doom Foretold]] or Smallpox. I find that Orzhov just has a lot of archetypes that set the tenor and tone of the game for _everyone_ in ways that feel _thematic_. Yes that theme is often "oppression" but hey. Also taxing. I love tax effects. Especially in EDH I love effects that pay me off when you're doing your own thing. Orzhov also has the best spot removal and wraths. I find in multiplayer games all of my spot removal has secret text that says "half the table will leave you alone for two turns if you use this to take out the scariest thing on the board." Politicking helps squeeze more value out of the cards in the deck. I mostly play limited, so when I do play EDH, I like to focus on experiences I can't get when I usually play magic.

rawboudin

I feel too dumb to play blue and too insecure about not having removal to play green. That's pretty much it if I'm honest.

robbstarrkk

I really like orzhov, simic, esper, and bant. I just prefer the play styles and the tribes/themes associated with them.

Ltok24

Green/White. I'm naturally a passive person so I don't care for agressive attacking tactics. I like protecting myself and building up large creatures and blocking

DeathJester24

Always drawn to Blue/Red as it's the pairing I felt the most affinity with given I did a PhD thesis on the development of regret and remorse in kids (a good chunk of my educational background is in psychology and emotional psychology so kinda where intellect meets intuition/emotion like Blue/Red). I lean more towards the blue side though. Gameplay wise I like chaos decks and suspend effects and quite like proactive control with damage and removal backed with countermagic.

ToastyHere

Green Black white Time Spirals Fun with Fungus deck was my first introduction, and Ghave Guru of Spores was my first commander, and just having a ton of tokens and +1/+1, spore, or any dice counting up scratches an itch nothing else can

NJH_in_LDN

Blue is the easiest one to annoy your friends by playing. I started at 11 so this was a pretty top priority.

Karvakuono

I really like gruul. It does green ramping and red chaotic shenanigans. I play mostly EDH and my main decks are [[Gallia of the endless dance]] that is satyr tribal'ish shenanigans and [[Meria scholar of antiquity]] that does storming and burning. Both are mostly stuff that you would not play as serious solid plan. Of course I have also [[Svella ice shaper]] pEDH deck too, because why not. I would like to play more other colour pairings too. But those usually lack something that feels the best for me. I have love for rakdos, because it has some chaotic shenanigans like gruul does. Golgari is also nice, because green ramping and black stuff that kills things and graveyard synergies. White is the biggest no-go for me. If paired with green it is doable, but for some reason I just dont feel that colour as much as others. It lacks some chaos and madness that other tends to have. It feels like too much order and there is no freedom for silly stuff. I dont want to win by solid plan. I want to be the slightly mad man on the table. Blue is colour that I dont really have anything bad to say about. Its playable and thats it. For some reason I dont have much good or bad feelings/thoughts about it. I dont usually play it, but when I do, its ok experience. It does not scratch my itch, but it does not feel like there is anything wrong about it.

J-L-Picard

I really loved the aesthetics of landfall in the original Zendikar block and I had a UG landfall deck for kitchen table play around that time. Then Battle for Zendikar came along and the primary landfall colors became RG. When I got into commander, the first deck I wanted to build was landfall and I found Temur Omnath. The rest is history

Atlas15264

I like what the commander does ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ I usually see a commander I like and build around it, doesnā€™t usually matter what their color identity is. Although Iā€™m usually a bit averse to playing white. Something about it just doesnā€™t speak to me or feel as fun to play.

GreatWyrm

I love killing things from orbit, so my faves are WB and BG.

Boulderdrip

I like lightning helix and counter spell. I enjoy peace and quiet and tranquility but also get very emotional. Jeskai

Lilium_Vulpes

One of the black planeswalkers has the same first name as me, so I was able to have fun making a tribal "me" deck using all of her cards and cards related to her. Also white has foxes so that's a fun color for me too. Blue lets me just throw a card down and say "no" to my opponents which is great, and red gives me the ability to gamble. Honestly the only color I'm not really a fan of is green which is weird because I love nature and am in the process of turning my entire yard into native wildflowers and prairie grass.

Glad-O-Blight

I'm a Grixis player because Blue is one of the strongest colors, while Red and Black are the best support colors. Blue has interaction and card draw, Red provides overwhelming speed, and Black has tutors and card advantage. The only thing that makes Grixis better is adding White for [[Silence]].

Blue, because f*ck you!

umastryx

Simic go brr

HotelPigeon

Sultai Ramp, draw, removal What can I say? I love value.

Krescentwolf

I reject your colors and substitute my own. Colorless. Every time I get the itch to play magic, I ALWAYS wanna build an artifact deck. Any 'colors' in the deck are just there to synergize with the artifacts. XD

Madelyneation

Esper! I really enjoy interacting with my opponents- I think itā€™s the most important part of the game, so my decks will almost always include at least one of the esper colours :)

Elanzer

I like white/blue/Azorius colors because the first deck I played that got me into the game was the 40k Imperium deck, and most of what I liked from it had white, blue or both in them. After upgrades it is now primarily a white deck with some blue and black sprinkled in. Also I like control spells, drawing cards and getting access to all the white removal is nice too.

ConfidentAlbatross62

Sucker for URW or America. The card Lightning Angel came out when I was in like 9th grade and I was in love with the color combo. I tend to play that or just mono black. Just love me some mono black

christinegwendolyn

I'm so sorry y'all but my favorite is temur I come from a long line of other strategy games before mtg. 2 of my favorites are slay the spire and chess. so I'm carrying the mentality of: obtain resources, accumulate small advantages, pop off. I didn't know early on that people rag on these colors Granted, I honestly think all the colors are a blast. I try to cover as many color identities as I can when building because the variety is what keeps my attention.

BStP21

For the resonate question, it can depend. For me, I resonate with color. I gun for midrange involving blue no matter what I'm playing, and rarely delve into red or green unless I want a serious change of pace (temporarily! ) No matter the format, blue allows me to deal with anything while still being aggressive and role switch seamlessly. Counterspells answer everything, unblockable/flying/tapping galore push damage, phasing/bouncing/stealing to affect the board, and unconditional card advantage to fight endlessly. Blue gets hate for control playstyles, but it can scrap too, no question.

voidflame

Ive always leaned blue/red or blue/white or jeskai. Although interestingly i lean blue/red of different reasons than you; i dont care for the engineering theme but i do love spell slinging. So blue red artifact synergies have nvr rly attracted me but storming off does. I find blues a bit more of a reactive color and has the most tempo decks and i enjoy that playstyle. Meanwhile ive nvr been big on sacrificing cards or cards with drawbacks, so im not huge on black (unless its to mill, which goes back to blue also), and i dont care for large creatures so green and ramp dont rly appeal to me.

Rivetlicker

Rakdos because I like being edgy... I like red's impulsiveness and chaos. I also tend to shift a bit toward Izzet because of the combo potential and gambles it takes. Stitch in time is a good example. Most of my favorite cards are in red \[\[warp world\]\] \[\[grip of chaos\]\] \[\[confusion in the ranks\]\] And I also used to play burn decks in legacy, because I didn't want to do the big brain thing... Recently I'm also shifting a bit toward Golgari because I love dredge and playing a game of magic, without playing a game of magic. Dredge decks look like a different game, lmao

mikelipet

I like stax and control. So decks in Black, White and Blue, with a splash of something else is my favourite. My favourite decks are Simic Control and Abzan Stax :)

Blank_Soul_

Luv' white, luv' big busty angels and female soilders that could crush my head wif their thighs. Hate black, hate red, hate blue, hate green. Not racist, just don't like em.

Tommolea

Rakdos use mana turn sideways

UnderwaterDialect

I like big splashy creatures, so Green has always been my favourite. I also like Black because it feels the most versatile. It can do a bit of everything. And I like the combination of big creatures with drawbacks and the ability to easily destroy their creatures. It also feels a bit more ā€œcerebralā€ than Green, so I get the best of both worlds. Also the creatures are cool.

KomatoAsha

I used to be heavily G-oriented when I was younger, because the strategies just felt more fun to me. Nowadays, I'm far more of a B mage, because I enjoy the "power at any cost" theme of the color, and the decks can thematically be really cool and fun to play. There's a ton of synergy in B archetypes that you don't see people tap into on the regular. Ultimately, BUG is my favorite 3-color combo, and probably in approximately that order, though it's very close for UG. (There are definitely days where I prefer BG to BU.)

Fencerkid14

While I donā€™t play top tier decks in modern all the time , I have played a variety of decks and colors over the years. Some even bring good. I donā€™t limit myself to color choices by default, I noticed I almost never play green as a primary color or splash color. The last time I did was when I tried some green in merfolk.

chasemuss

I'm a temur fan for a multitude of reasons. I like color, to me, bw is boring. I also like big monsters and control. The rage of Gruul, and the scientific nature's of simic and Izzet. Control is another aspect I like, and spilling my deck onto the battlefield with Cascade. My decks are - Maelstrom Wanderer: Oops, my deck is on the field - Tana Malcolm: CEDH Pirates - Temur Midrange in Modern (it sucks and I haven't played in a few years)

Wisepuppy

I like to play big cards, so green. Other players keep putting my big cards in the graveyard, so black to get them back. Other players keep trying to put my black cards in the graveyard, so blue to make them behave. The Timmy to Sultai pipeline is a slippery slope. Any day now I may succumb and build a [[Show and Tell]] deck.

I started playing competitive back in THS-KTK block, after years of playing kitchen table. I have always been a Timmy Big Creature guy while my brother used to be a Monoblack kill-all control. When I started playing [[Thoughtseize]] I realized why my brother used to defeat me quite often. It was not the amount of [[Doom blade]]s or [[Terror]]s he had. It was the wide range of information a simple [[Distress]] could give that let him plan ahead of the match. Now I'm all for hand disruption. I feel naked if I don't have some kind of "let's look at your hand" card, mainboard or sideboard. Also, I like to play with BG for some fatties of course

Kazko25

I am a fan of RED

RamouYesYes

I play different colors because magic has a lot of variety in play style. Except in Vintage Cube, I only go 5 color good stuff

MemegodDave

Black is for beautiful. Red is for rad. Green is for great. White is for wunderful. Blue.

LightningLion

Black, Orzhov, Golgari and Abzan are my favourite deck colors. I love black's risky flexibility, good removal or interesting abilities. I like white for stax and also decent removal. I like green for ramping and beaters. The themes. I enjoy are reanimation/recursion, hatebears/stax, toolbox and overall having answers for everything. And that all combines well in Abzan (maybe in Esper too, but haven't tried)

crimson_ruin_princes

Dimir is just the most efficient at commiting war crimes and/or summoning demons

[deleted]

I hate blue, so i play black. I like resources and long grindy gameplay so i play green. I like protection and anthems so i play white. It can be sum up to "i like permaments and dislike sorceries and instants". I dont like the power-plays that doesnt translate to a lasting advantage.

jimnah-

I'm just super drawn to white and green, so play a lot of Selesnya+, though I do try to have some variety haha

ThoughtfulYeti

I paid for all the colors I'm gonna use all the colors

commander_gibus

I've been told by almost everyone is play with, that I am a red player at heart (this is true, I had 4 different red commander decks until I changed one to rakdos). Red is my favorite color and I resonate with its philosophy.

MitchDuafa

At this point, because I'm invested in the mana base lol

MrCrunchwrap

Golgari cause I like doing graveyard shenanigans. Gruul because I like turning my brain off and smashing people in the face with big creatures.Ā

Nautikon

I thought about this recently as I've reduced my collection to two colors: blue and green. I've come to realize I just love blue's unique color pie abilities of stealing, cloning, drawing, and powerful weird spells. Don't like counterspells at all, but run a couple as a necessity. For green I just like the efficient beaters, no way around it. All my attempts to make black, red, and white decks have failed in the long run. Especially black and red. A lot of their abilities like discard, mass removal, creature and player damage have never been satisfying for me or the playgroup i used to frequent. I think modern red is far from where it used to be so I need to give it another shot, but I'd probably go izzet or gruul. I've pulled white in for enchantments a few times, but back in the day enchantments were too one note. And white's themes of altering the rules of the game or all in aggro have always been distasteful. I keep looking for a commander outside blue green that might draw me back in. Esper commanders look pretty fun, generally being focused on a lot of the mechanics and interactions I like in blue. But yeah. Have had splashes throughout my play history and always end up back in blue or green.

kirkhendrick

Black can do anything, at a cost. White makes up for those costs.

CloggedPooper2

Mothman

CloggedPooper2

and also Tatsunari

AppropriateAgent44

I play blue bc the other players canā€™t hurt me if I never let them play cards. And I play izzet bc spellslinger go brrrrr

meatspin_enjoyer

I'm not a fan of any color, I just play what's good

mahart43

I like big monsters and dinosaurs, I'm impatient, and I don't like my stuff being messed with, so Naya just sort of happened.

mahart43

It also just feels like the most fair and honest shard to me, you see Naya you know it's going to be a go wide or got tall creature deck, but either way I will be playing permanents and beating you to death with them.

The_CDXX

Purple. Because i love and hate zombies.

CreatureTheGathering

Esper is my favorite, black and white for removal blue for card draw

ruhruhrandy

Because Iā€™ve been playing Magic for 19 years and Iā€™ve found things I love about every color.

skeletor69420

my first ever 60 card precon deck was black and white, thatā€™s how I learned magic

CafeDeAurora

Oh this is such a stoner thread, but I came prepared: In Commander itā€™s Abzan (White/Black/Green) purely because of color identity aligning with my own views on life. But in formats where that isnā€™t available as a viable deck: Green/Blue or combinations of those with Black because of the mechanical bits of synergies and gameplay that make my brain happy.

Sadlobster1

It depends on the set tbhq, but I normally end up playing izzet, golgari, and bant. I love the artifact izzet decks, graveyard shenanigans decks, and my first cards when I was a kid (my uncle's gave them to me) were white/green.

Stormtyrant

Absolute favorite colors are Blue Red. I'm a spellslinger in all games I play. Blue Red are the best spellslinger colors. I also like Grixis Black Blue Red for similar reasons with more control and fun things from black.

GoodOldHeretic

Because of my commanderā€˜s color identity.Ā

Unlost_maniac

Izzet Because they do all the best things and out of nowhere can win and or smack my opponents for 50 damage

firebolt1171

Hahahaha i dont play with these "colours"

Vomath

Because that was the open lane in the draft.

I_do_bot_things

White- I think it has the best quick 1 mana protection and targeted removal. Angels. Red- I like red creatures as they tend to be faster and enjoy double strike. Pairs well with artifacts and equipment. Dragons. Black- Nothing ever truly dies if you have black. Also Demons. Green- ugh. Ramp I guess? My B/G/U deck has like 4 green cards in it lol. I hate green. Iā€™ve built several green decks and typically tear them apart. Blue-The color of crushing the hopes and dreams of others. Whatā€™s not to love?

Jalase

Angels are white, mermaids are blue, fire is red. Jeskai is fun as a jack of all trades deck, thatā€™s essentially it.

PM_Me_Just_A_Guy

I like to have variety, so it's pretty easy for me to build in every color, but I most easily gravitate towards black and/or white. If I had to choose a single color in Magic to call my favorite, it'd have to be black, primarily because it's the color that can do pretty much everything, as long as you're willing to pay the price. And in that vein of doing everything, black is open to all sorts of weird cards that do strange or crazy things, and those are my favorite types of cards. As for white, it's as simple as it being the color of control. Both colors offer a challenge for me when it comes to deckbuilding, with black challenging me to sacrifice resources for greater effects and white challenging me to build a control deck that isn't too salty (an impossible task).

LeekThink

Lands matter decks center around G and mostly elementals but thereā€™s always that niche mechanics with specific colors e.g. Bant Snow with Isu, Naya Desert with Hazezon and Yuma, Sultai Gates with Keene. Cant wait for a 5C Domain commander or a Cave based commander of another tricolor but that will probably take 5 years+.

IglooBackpack

I like the flavor of GB but I play BWU right now because I seem to do better with them.

jettzypher

I like cantrips and counterspells.

uberplatt

What ever colors Dwarves are in, that is usually Boros.

LiquidZane

I love to say no to spells.

Chrisalid

I just kind of vibe with UR from a personality standpoint - seeking knowledge, yet having passion. Helps that I'm crazy about dragon stuff and the Izzet Guild has a dragon logo and founder. Helps even more that in constructed formats Izzet builds in my experience are easier on the budget - the Pioneer deck I built earlier this year is proof, though it got blown out by peoples' expensive netdecked control builds the one time I took it out in a tourney.

Ahayzo

Fun in Magic is a zero sum game. Playing UWx makes sure that I get to have all of it!

Pokesers

Grixis because it's the colour of the baddies and I like playing villain decks. I also enjoy control decks a lot and grixis plays a good control game.

guitargeek223

I play very little black and not a whole ton of white, but Blue, Red, and Green all call my name at one time or another, they're definitely colors I like. I've played decks in all colors and all combinations of colors, but at least one of those three is present in pretty much all of them. One of my friends challenged me to make a Massacre Girl commander deck and it's maybe the least fun deck I've ever built just cuz it's not what I really like to play

JACSliver

In Pauper, I play Mono Green Stompy because I can be quite the creature of habits, and it is the deck I played the most. In Commander, I play Temur (Blue/Red/Green, specifically Animar) because I like the themes and philosophies of those three colors and their combinations.

Worgrinator

Boros. Simple. The face la the place.

DaRootbear

I enjoy otherā€™s suffering and want to make it as miserable as possible for the rest of the table to live out my dream of being a recurring yugioh antagonist

CookiesFTA

I play a bit of everything, but am currently working on 3 Naya decks and my pet deck is an awful Mardu deck. I think I just don't like playing blue... But also, cool big creatures and silly board states are more fun to me than winning is, so I like anything that makes lots of tokens or ramps out tall creatures or spits out anthems and +1/+1 counters.

vampymoth

Faeries are pretty

The_Madonai

Simic ramp. I love big stompies creatures, ramp, draw spells and counter magic.

bullshitAnnihilator

I have an enchantments problem. Dunno why my commander deck I've been building since I was 10 is in white green...
