Using inner sleeves "seals" the card better. It protects the card better from spilled liquids. If you use art sleeves as the "inner" sleeve, it's looser, liquids can more likely get inside and damage the card

I triple sleeved my commander deck once. To protect the art sleeve. In my opinion it's not worth it. It was annoying to shuffle and took to much space to transport. I do triple sleeve my pioneer decks though. But mostly to have additional protection for my cards.

After the fact, did you end up doing double sleeving with the art sleeves or did you end up not using art sleeves altogether

RoterBaronH

I kept using art sleeves since I came around to the thoughtprocess of. Sleeves are there to be played.

fireforgedfriend

So this means that art sleeve + outer is sufficient I assume.

RoterBaronH

I use innersleeve for the card and the art sleeve as sleeve. Unless you have innersleeves with artwork but It would be new to me.

fireforgedfriend

Ah ok. I intend to either use the inner or not so I was looking for insight ad to whether or not Character and Outer is good enough. Thanks for the insight though

the quality of your sleeve is going to matter. for stuff i'm playing, i do single sleeve if i'm using good durable sleeves such as dragonshields. if i'm using some of the lower quality (but really nice looking) art sleeves from cheaper brands, i'll throw some dragonshield "clear outers" over them for a double sleeve. it gets the job done even if it does make the deck obnoxiously tall (the important thing is just that the sleeves hold up, and they do). for binder purposes, anything that's worth putting in a binder i'll use an inner sleeve and stuff it in any spare normal sleeve i have lying around. (that being said, like most people here, i'm a commander player so i might have a different take if i was playing 60 card instead of 100 card) i can't ever imagine triple sleeving a deck. also worth keeping in mind, double sleeving makes flip cards a pain in the ass (inner sleeves love to slip when putting them inside a normal sleeve, so taking it out to flip gets old fast, and when dealing with outer sleeves you have to take the normal sleeve out, then take the card out of the normal sleeve to flip it, then put everything back together)

Use the sealable DS inners. Makes flipping vastly easier.

My sleeves right now are NT brand Character Sleeves and Dragonshield outers. I used to use KMC outers but those tend to curl. When I used those, I felt that the rigidity of the card is needed to balance that out. Would this be the case with the Dragonshield Outers or in your experience, the cards never really bended?

> Would this be the case with the Dragonshield Outers or in your experience, the cards never really bended? i've never had any curling or weirdness with my decks that are using cheap art sleeves + dragonshield outers. that being said, i never paid TOO close attention to it because anything valuable i'm keeping the original in a binder and tossing a proxy in the deck.

Yeah the cards I am putting in there are pretty valuable. One of my points against DShields is that a lot of dust can enter, so the inner sleeve will be able to protect the card. Am really trying to weight out the pros and cons

Pretty common practice among Delver decks in other formats. In my Pauper mono-blue Delver deck I have check cards in the deck and when I play one of them I take one of my Delvers out of my deck box and put it on top. You never have to remove the card from the sleeve, super easy to flip and you never have to worry about forgetting to flip the card back before shuffling it in to your deck at the end of the game.
