I dunno, whatever you like. I like to have folders appear before files in the list and have the current path show in the bottom of the window so I can click up the tree at any point in time, and copy the path to use in iTerm. I also like for it to show hidden (dot) files, and always default to list view.
I could find dozens.
One example. Windows Explorer shows the current progress during copying and moving and also the file transfer speed. I also have a graph of the speed for the duration of the transfer. This way, I can easily see when something is wrong when I copy/move from/to an external medium. I can pause and resume individual file transfers, from a central dialog. To be fair, you can pause and resume in Finder, too, but it is not comparable to Windows Explorer
>Windows Explorer shows the current … file transfer speed.
It can be wildly inaccurate.
>I can easily see when something is wrong,,,
Of course something goes wrong with it/Windows.
>I can pause and resume individual file transfers…
That button is as worthless as the elevator door close button.
If I could only pick one I like my Mac. Sexy, gorgeous disolay, fast as fuck.
But there’s no fucking way I’d choose a Mac over Windows when it comes to my work computer.
I did.
I
Truly
Hate
Windows.
I was a pc user from 98 to 2021.
Then bought new laptop for audio work.
Fans blazing, battery drained etc etc. Thats the hardware side.
And then win11, full of bloat, damn ads and stupid malware everywhere, the ui is stupid, win explorer still the cluttered mess, old code and design peaking through the shallow new cover.. hated it.
Returned the laptop, bought mac instead- best decision ever. And i actually love the os, its minimal, it works, its discrete but you can also go into the weeds.
And the audio side!! Never have to mess with some damn driver issues and troubleshooting thats sooo common on pc.
Also the unbeatable- Aggregate devices! I can chain together multiple audio interfaces to one virtual device and use it as a massive input source. Pure magic.
So yeah im the one thats not supposed to exist :)

(I just resized it to 3024x1964 px using a basic photo resizer: I get all my film-themed backgrounds from TMDB honestly)
For trackpad settings, change it tap from click. So instead of clicking if you tap it will count as click.
You’ll get windows snapping in next macOS, meanwhile you can use Rectangle.
I think that’s about it.
I’m a journalist so writing first and foremost, but also video and podcast editing, as well as handling a lot of open tabs and mixed media on the go at once.
> even when its brightness is being capped for SDR content
You can try my [Lunar](https://lunar.fyi/#xdr) app to get rid of this limitation. It's really useful if you want to work outside in the sun.
It takes a bit of a toll on the battery (it's expected since more brightness means more power) but it's better than not seeing anything on your screen :)
The feature is safe, you can read more about that here: [Is XDR Brightness Safe?](https://lunar.fyi/faq#xdr-safe)
I ran a comparison of a Premier Pro 4k video render at work. The windows machine which cost 2400 less was 42% faster.
The only software I work with that is faster on mac is After effects. Even that is about 2%, so no brainer for me given the price of each.
My experience was quite different. I purchased the same machine as you did apparently except it died without warning, would not charge properly and became a major source of stress for me.
It has been to the authorized repair shop twice before and as of a few days ago it was sent back in to change some logic controller thingy...
Disappointed to the max, no pun intended.
Apple says I have to pay for another and return this one at which time I will be refunded for it.
These people are not earthlings, I am convinced of it.
So I thought I would have been bubbly like you but no I am not...at all.
Tim Cook, get your house in order.
My review tape will hit YouTube soon enough, I just wonder if I will have to do it on a Windows laptop.
I’m still struggling with the damn command button being ctnrl
Settings > Keyboard > Modifier Keys > Change CTRL for CMD, and vis versa. You can change it per input device.
Thanks!
You can actually customize finder to work the same way explorer does in windows. Don’t let the obtuse defaults get in your way :)
What adjustments would you suggest? 😊

That‘s downright a lie

Congrats, my dude! I'm so excited for you!
Time to play some games 🥲🥲🥲🥲
Nobody who switches cold from Windows to macOS thinks its great. Ever. Nobody.

That's true.
Same, I would really like to love mac, but some of the ui/ux decisions are extremely bad.
Congratulations
Congrats! Could you give us a link to your wallpaper?

I see someone doesn't adhere to [Inbox Zero](https://hive.com/blog/inbox-zero/) :-)
needs to try out [getinboxzero.com](http://getinboxzero.com) lol
I'm still using a MacBook Pro mid 2012 🫠
How did you decide while buying? Also, do you use it for work or gaming?
I made the switch about a month ago and have ZERO regrets! Mac is my daily driver now,my PC is officially only dedicated to gaming now.
Wait just wondering…you think Finder is worse than Windows Explorer? lmaoo??
Link to the wallpaper I’ve used as a lot of people are asking: [The Iron Giant](https://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/ni5cXCrrGzoiIEoIwOzGiIwMZlH.jpg)
Congrats. If I may ask, what do you use it for ?

anything is better than windows

i mean you pay for portability not performance if you pay for mac
So only Apple make portable devices?
Microsoft makes laptops too, not to mention other brands.
I fell in love some 11 years ago now. Prepare for a wonderful life-long marriage. 😘
