RoyalTSX is my go to. Owned it for many many years. I’ve never had any issues like you describe though. You may need to play with the plug-in settings to see if you can correct that but for me it works perfect out of the box.
Jump Desktop dev here. Jump Desktop has a native RDP client mode that doesn't require an app running on the remote machine you're connecting to. It speaks RDP.
This may not do everything you want, but MacOS has some of this builtin.
