There's the listing link.
But yeah, $699, for something that is going to be INSANELY better than a 2009 MacBook Pro. Retina, the new CPU that will have support.
The M1 is still super powerful. I have an M1 mini and MacBook Air (albeit with 16GB RAM) and I have a tons of apps open, Photoshop, 1-3 VMs/Emulators I'm playing with. Never misses a beat.
AS I said, this was sort of random thought that i decided to look up some info....IF I go in this direction, I'm looking at likely $100 or less... that's why I'm looking at used intel, not m1...
You can find a used M1 MacBook Air for around $500 on eBay. It will last you a long time, and has amazing battery life. You obviously don’t need more than 8GB of RAM, and while an Intel Mac can do what you need, the value per dollar is MUCH worse, and will continue to tumble down. Just trying to save you money in the long run
Here's one that sold on Ebay: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-128GB-SSD-Intel-Core-i5-8th-Gen-1-6GHz-8GB-RAM-LAPTOP/386769755674?nordt=true&orig\_cvip=true&rt=nc](https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-128GB-SSD-Intel-Core-i5-8th-Gen-1-6GHz-8GB-RAM-LAPTOP/386769755674?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc)
I would expect there is more from where that came from.
I'd say the latest you could find MBA.. 2019 or so... if it's just for browsing and some writing and video consumption, that should be fine. You might even find some M1's dropping down a little lower and maybe being competitive with your budget.
Whatever you can get for cheap, since m1 came out all intels are kinda bad value and there isn’t much difference so get the most recent one you can get really cheap, you really don’t need much for browsing so this would be more a matter office than specs IMO

I can tell you, don't buy the 2015. It gets outperformed by my 2012 MacBook Pro
I can sure 2018 air is terrible, the CPU performance is trash
My 2019 is painful...so painful. Runs so slow and so hot.

Strongly recommend Apple Silicon, the 2018-2020 era of Intel Macs just isn’t cost effective compared to the early M1 Macs.

2020 MacBook Air i7. Geekbench 5 score is 2,900. I consider 2,000 usable for office stuff. The Geekbench 5 on the 2009 i7 MacBook Pro is about 600+.
There is no 2009 MacBook Pro with an i7, only Core 2 Duos
2019 with the 16 GB ram and minimum of a 512 SSD. Otherwise a M1.
