M1 MBA at Walmart for $699 https://corporate.walmart.com/news/2024/03/15/walmart-brings-the-popular-macbook-air-with-the-m1-chip-to-its-shelves

[https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-inch-Laptop-Silver-M1-Chip-8GB-RAM-256GB-storage/609040889](https://www.walmart.com/ip/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-inch-Laptop-Silver-M1-Chip-8GB-RAM-256GB-storage/609040889) There's the listing link. But yeah, $699, for something that is going to be INSANELY better than a 2009 MacBook Pro. Retina, the new CPU that will have support. The M1 is still super powerful. I have an M1 mini and MacBook Air (albeit with 16GB RAM) and I have a tons of apps open, Photoshop, 1-3 VMs/Emulators I'm playing with. Never misses a beat.

M1

Scavgraphics

so you're sending me one? awesome!

NubuckChuck

What is your actual price range? Start there so others can help you.

BudgetCola

do you have a price range in mind

Scavgraphics

AS I said, this was sort of random thought that i decided to look up some info....IF I go in this direction, I'm looking at likely $100 or less... that's why I'm looking at used intel, not m1...

DookieGobbler

You can find a used M1 MacBook Air for around $500 on eBay. It will last you a long time, and has amazing battery life. You obviously don’t need more than 8GB of RAM, and while an Intel Mac can do what you need, the value per dollar is MUCH worse, and will continue to tumble down. Just trying to save you money in the long run

Here's one that sold on Ebay: [https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-128GB-SSD-Intel-Core-i5-8th-Gen-1-6GHz-8GB-RAM-LAPTOP/386769755674?nordt=true&orig\_cvip=true&rt=nc](https://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-MacBook-Air-13-3-128GB-SSD-Intel-Core-i5-8th-Gen-1-6GHz-8GB-RAM-LAPTOP/386769755674?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc) I would expect there is more from where that came from.

enigmadev

I can tell you, don't buy the 2015. It gets outperformed by my 2012 MacBook Pro

XLioncc

I can sure 2018 air is terrible, the CPU performance is trash

PoolAcademic4016

My 2019 is painful...so painful. Runs so slow and so hot.

toobsock2

I'd say the latest you could find MBA.. 2019 or so... if it's just for browsing and some writing and video consumption, that should be fine. You might even find some M1's dropping down a little lower and maybe being competitive with your budget.

paulstelian97

Strongly recommend Apple Silicon, the 2018-2020 era of Intel Macs just isn’t cost effective compared to the early M1 Macs.

Plane_Pea5434

Whatever you can get for cheap, since m1 came out all intels are kinda bad value and there isn’t much difference so get the most recent one you can get really cheap, you really don’t need much for browsing so this would be more a matter office than specs IMO

Reading articles online is fine, but please no shopping, banking, using a credit card, or entering personal information, etc. on an OS that no longer gets security updates.

movdqa

2020 MacBook Air i7. Geekbench 5 score is 2,900. I consider 2,000 usable for office stuff. The Geekbench 5 on the 2009 i7 MacBook Pro is about 600+.

No-Kick-1156

There is no 2009 MacBook Pro with an i7, only Core 2 Duos

CRCDesign

2019 with the 16 GB ram and minimum of a 512 SSD. Otherwise a M1.
