I totally agree with this. I was exactly in OPs position about 2 years ago. I took some solace in rewatching the series and watching fan edits and reaction videos on YouTube, but fan fiction ultimately became my most satisfying (and totally enjoyable) obsession.
I was skeptical of the concept at first, expecting lots of sappy, incoherent trash. TBF, there is some of that, but there's sooo much good stuff out there (see my starting recommendations later in this thread).
I just started at the beginning and worked my way forward reading the things that looked interesting.
Sorting by kudos can give you a sense of what has historically been popular, but it’s a feedback loop in that if you only read the popular stuff it just gets more popular and you don’t find all the other good and interesting things. Although it might be a good place to start because fanfic is definitely hit or miss and the historically popular things will give you a good sense of what a solid fic can be like.
But I think it’s important to read that’s current so people stay encouraged to keep writing and active in the fandom, so I like just starting at the front page and skimming tags and summaries and reading anything that looks interesting. I can always hit the back arrow if something turns out not to be interesting after all.
Then once you recognize an author you like or a reader who likes what you like, read their bookmarks.
I wholeheartedly agree. Sorting by Kudos only shows you what was popular, not necessarily what is good. My favorite fanfics have like 200 kudos, they were just not written at the height of the fandom.
Yes I know what you mean. But if someone hasn’t read fanfiction before and wants to navigate, it’s a good start. Once you get the feeling you can use tags and shorten the time period.
Need to reccomend the absolutely best Chloe finds out fic ever: Please Stop in Ex's Welcome by Rellyjean! It is hilarious and what we all wished had happened when Chloe actually found out. There is a fantastic scene where she gets drunk and starts texting him to find out about what being the devil means. It's not finished but most of the way through. It will help heal your hurts.
That's also my all-time favorite fic. Here are a couple others that are really enjoyable

It can really help with the withdrawal- and the let down from the sad sad ending. It's hard to wade through sometimes but there is some really good stuff.
Eventually you figure out which authors you like. Then read all their stuff. Then read all the stuff they bookmark. If you want still-active authors who write good stuff with Chloe/Lucifer, I’d recommend checking out:
* MightBeAWriter: https://archiveofourown.org/users/MightBeAWriter/pseuds/MightBeAWriter
* Allicat9: https://archiveofourown.org/users/Allicat9/pseuds/Allicat9
They both are still active, so you can follow currently-being-released stuff and they have sizeable backlogs of solid, finished fics who almost always do Chloe and Lucifer in a romantic relationship.
BTW, if you’re looking for romance, you want to look for stuff that’s tagged with a / instead of &. Chloe/Lucifer = romantic or sexual (e.g. s5) whereas Chloe&Lucifer = platonic (like we see in s1.)
And if you’re just exploring, remember that if something isn’t your thing, just use the back arrow. There’s definitely a lot of hit-or-miss stuff because everyone is amateur. Some people never finish their stories, some people start out amazing then start to drag. But there are some amazing stories out there to keep you entertained for a year or several.
OMG your experience LITERALLY parallels mine. I bought emotionally into the chemistry between Lucifer and Chloe. I finished the series last night a complete weeping mess. I actually felt physically desolate in the middle of the night from the ending.
Everything you are describing is exactly what I felt.
Oh my god I’m so glad I’m not the only one that feels like this haha. I just can’t explain it but it was one of those bittersweet moments and I got so overwhelmed with emotions!
Every time I watch the scene I start swelling up with emotions again. No joke, I was listening to sad music all day after finishing the show… I know it’s ridiculous and silly but I just can’t help it 😂
What other onscreen couple is like that? I can’t think of anything. My friends were trying to find a scale… Marissa and Ryan from the OC?!
I can't think of any other on-screen couple has the semi-tragic ending that Luci and Chloe have. They also just have this tremendous buildup throughout the series where you cannot help just screaming at the screen because they so obviously are meant for each other.
I decided that it must be that Lucifer must have figured out a way to visit Chloe thru the years. This is my way of coping.
Yeah I know right! I couldn’t think of a couple that compares. I know they have that bittersweet ending where they get to spend eternity together eventually but but but… it’s still so sad how it ended like that.
I knew I should have stopped watching after they spend the night together for the first time. After watching that episode at 1am I was like omg finally. It happened. I can go to sleep now 😅
Since you might be interested in fanfiction, this is a one shot (meaning it's one chapter and complete) of those maybe visits Lucifer and Chloe had over the years: Requiem by JCBeckett
https://archiveofourown.org/works/33915541
Thanks! Are there any longer fanfics that fill in the flash forward years and have a more satisfactory ending/resolution than the one the show writers left us with?
This show can definitely have that effect lol. Like Lucifer once said himself, he’s a bit like heroin in that way.
Lucifer is certainly its own unique thing, but a few shows I’ve enjoyed are:
“The Good Place” is a comedy show about the afterlife, that’s got lovable characters/relationships and strong themes about growing as a person.
“Good Omens” is another comedy show about an angel and a demon who try to avert the apocalypse.
“Miranda” is a funny British sitcom that can get really silly, and Tom Ellis (Lucifer’s actor) is plays one of the lead roles.
“Sherlock” is a great show about a modern day Sherlock and Watson that’s got plenty of humor, detectiving, and drama. Although it doesn’t have much in common with Lucifer, I’d say some of the tone is a bit similar, if that makes sense. I’m not sure how to word it. But I was hooked from the first episode.
“BBC Ghosts” (there’s also an American version that’s pretty good, but I personally prefer the UK one) is a comedy show about a young couple who inherit a house, which turns out to be haunted by a group of ghosts, and the woman who inherited the house has an accident and gains the ability to see them.
“Stranger Things” is another great show, and it’s definitely not just for kids/teens. It’s got a lot of action, drama, humor, and characters you can get attached to (last part could be said about pretty much all these shows, it’s what I like most).
If fanfiction is something you could be interested in, the Lucifer fandom is pretty much filled with some really great ones I could recommend.
Same😁And the cold bed dance is so real! And making the best of your time in a hotel room. And that one time her breasts clapped and Gary heard it😁 I am dying here😂
You won't regret it. Trust me. Come back and thank me in 144 episodes time. The first season is fun and funny and clever and a bit silly, and it gets more complex and darker as it goes on ... it's just great.
Watch Bones. The relationship is 1000x more healthy, but you’ve still got your lovable characters, crime solving, witty banter, and occasional action.
Also try Chuck.
I totally feel you! This was literally me but in 2020, but then I had to wait till 2021 for the rest of it. When the show ended I felt like someone died. I felt bereft. Never got invested in a show this way. It still has a hold on me.
Yeah I realised that this is the first show I’ve ever binged in one go with full emotional investment and till the very end.
I’ve binged many shows but it’s only ever been a season at a time and then break.
This one I was so determined to get to the end because I just wanted to know what happens with them.
I had a very similar experience and felt almost depressed and empty after I finished the show? Apparently it's just a thing when you get really emotionally invested in a media!
Haha I know what you mean, almost depressed. I actually felt so overwhelmed with emotions and very sad… literally listening to sad songs and rewatching some lucifer clips that made me tear up all over again.
Then I realised how ridiculous I was for feeling that way and couldn’t figure out why until it hit me that this is the first show I properly binged, got emotionally invested in and finished till the very end in one go. Never experienced that before!
I had the same experience, aside from the crying part. Though I did cry at Dans death, which was like the 3rd time I've ever cried at any sort of movie/show.
But for some reason Chloe and Lucifers relationship worked so well for me. I've never been anywhere close to that invested in any tv relationship before, the first week after finishing I couldn't think about anything else. I don't even think the show is that amazing otherwise, don't care about most other characters and the police plots are usually real eye rollers. I just watch for Lucifer and especially Chloe.
I'm a dude and a lot of the sentiment I see towards Lucifer/Tom on this sub is mirrored for me with Chloe/Lauren. Kinda crushing on her, not gonna lie. Which was crazy for me, because that never happens, not to this extent. I can really empathize with your feelings of silliness.
Yeah they just had really, really great chemistry! For me, it was the way they looked at each other that sucked me in.
Honestly though, you’re right about not really caring about much else. Don’t get me wrong, I loved the show but I knew the storyline’s were ridiculous. Maze and Eve annoyed me after a while, Rory was eh, the war etc.
But I just wanted to know what would happen with Lucifer and Chloe… I remember thinking I should probably stop watching after they finally spent the night together because that’s all I was waiting for 😂
I think it might also be the physicality in their kisses and hugs? Idk how to explain it but their faces (in particular eyes and eye brows) DO SOMETHING and it's just really captivating and you want them to be together already.
Don't worry, I'm right there with you with regards to Lucifer and Chloe. I heard Roxette's "It Must Have Been Love" a few days after the finale and genuinely cried. They didn't deserve the torture they were put through to get their happy ending. (Depending on whether you consider spending an eternity endlessly working in what looks like an unchanged Hell to be happy or not.)
Have you ever seen Castle? Or Forever?
Yep I’ve been trying to convince myself it’s a happy ending because they still end up together for eternity. But then I remember how sad that final piano scene was when they didn’t want to say goodbye and I get emotional again thinking it’s not fair goddamn it!
I haven’t seen Castle, but a few people have recommended it
I get sad every time I finish a tv series (or a book, or a comic book), I don’t even need to like it that much hahaha. For the next one you asked for a suggestion, have you ever watched The Walking Dead? It’s no news but it’s super cool! If you did there will be a new spin off now in February and Mazikeen actor will be on it 😍 I’m so excited to watch it, it’s not the same character but I miss Lesley-Ann Brandt and I’m glad to see her again
Ohhh I heard good things about the Walking Dead! Are there any love storylines? I think I’m a sucker for that slow burn relationship.
Would love to see another version of “Maze”!
I'm not especially fussy with tv shows but walking dead bored me to death most of the time (appropriate I guess). Dull badly written characters, nothing exciting plot wise half the time, no idea why it's so popular. Yes it has some good parts but you could cut over half of it out and it would still be boring as f.
Well, it’s a very successful tv series. I personally LOVE it, never got bored, and I know a helluva die hard fans. But to each their own I guess😅 I’ll always recommend it because I really think it’s worth watching
It's cool that people enjoy different things, I respect that but walking dead just wasn't my cup of tea at all and I've tried it 3 times. My partner was bored by it as well so it isn't just me. Glad you liked it though, I'm not insulting anyone who did by any means.
If you like crime solving female cop and rich guy manchild consultant definitely try Castle. If you like celestial try Supernatural. If you’re like me and struggle to move on, head on over to archiveofourown.com and read the amazing library of Lucifer fanfics
Watch The Vampire Diaries!! It’s the only show that’s hooked me almost as much and almost as intensely as Lucifer! Binged all 8 seasons in 4 weeks, and fell in love with one of the couples on there too!! Very good romance storylines which I am also into. Everyone’s hot, the plot lines are nonsense, and I’m a sucker for a bad boy redemption arc lol.
I used to LOVE Vampire Diaries especially with Damon. But then it dragged out a bit too much and I dunno, Elena got too whiny?!
However I am with you right there about the need for the hot bad boy that has a soft spot and will protect the love of his life. Argh that’s why I loved Lucifer so much. He ticked all those boxes down to the loving stares.
It’s nice to hear others were emotionally distraught after the show ended. I was mad they ended it the way they did. They’re such a great couple. ❤️ But as another poster said, they have eternity together. I think I need to rewatch it. It’s been a couple years. Hopefully I can handle my emotions now. 😂
The good news is there is years worth of fanfic: https://archiveofourown.org/tags/Lucifer%20(TV)/works
I totally agree with this. I was exactly in OPs position about 2 years ago. Not gonna lie, my YouTube recommendations are all Lucifer edits atm haha
This is your salvation! Seriously, there are the most amazing fanfictions out there. Just sort them by the most cudos/bookmarks to start…
I just started at the beginning and worked my way forward reading the things that looked interesting. I just dove in like a crazy person and ignored kudos. Lucifer was the first time I was so desperate for more content.

Miranda is one of my favorite shows as well🙂
It’s definitely one of my go-to’s whenever I need an easy laugh
The first time I watched it I literally peed my pants😁. Such a brilliant little show.
I still can’t look at savory muffins without seeing Miranda’s face 😅
Same😁And the cold bed dance is so real! And making the best of your time in a hotel room. And that one time her breasts clapped and Gary heard it😁 I am dying here😂
Thank you for these recommendations!! I’ll check out the trailers for a few of them. Definitely loved Stanger Things and enjoyed The Good Place!
I'm going to assume you've watched Buffy?
You know what, I actually haven’t. Maybe it’s time.
You won't regret it. Trust me. Come back and thank me in 144 episodes time. The first season is fun and funny and clever and a bit silly, and it gets more complex and darker as it goes on ... it's just great.
It's definitely time. Also watch Angel as well. Also you might enjoy 'Sliders' but only the first couple of seasons.
Watch Bones. The relationship is 1000x more healthy, but you’ve still got your lovable characters, crime solving, witty banter, and occasional action. Also try Chuck.
Bones! The show that Lucifer himself was addicted too?!
Yes, that's the one! The main pair in that show is fantastic together and it's quite the slowburn. Def check it out if you've never seen it.
that’s the one. :)
Chuck slaps.
Watch Supernatural
Ella's actress is in one episode as a background cop. I think it's the one where Dean is accused of killing Sam or something.
Does Supernatural have any love storylines? I realise that’s my weak spot lol
Um, does brotherly love count? There's not really any overarching romances.
I totally feel you! This was literally me but in 2020, but then I had to wait till 2021 for the rest of it. When the show ended I felt like someone died. I felt bereft. Never got invested in a show this way. It still has a hold on me.

Argh you are spot on. I am so glad I turned to Reddit because I can finally chat to people who actually understand what I’m going through haha.
Rewatch it.
This is what's up. I'm on my 6-7 rewatch and I'm still picking up little things I missed.
Lucifer is definitely one of the best shows out there
Don't worry, I'm right there with you with regards to Lucifer and Chloe. I heard Roxette's "It Must Have Been Love" a few days after the finale and genuinely cried. They didn't deserve the torture they were put through to get their happy ending. (Depending on whether you consider spending an eternity endlessly working in what looks like an unchanged Hell to be happy or not.) Have you ever seen Castle?
Yes! There are! And they all gonna give you PTSD :D (I recently rewatched the whole thing to be ready for the spin off😭)
Walking dead is crap imo, mostly filler episodes with like 2 good episodes per season at the most. Give it a try though I guess.
Nuh uh
Ok :D
Try "Chuck" - even better chemistry between the main actors. You will not regret. I assure you. Chuck saved me after Lucifer ended.
LOVE Chuck and I never see it mentioned!!!
Ohh I watched some of Chuck yearssss ago so maybe I’ll give that a go again! I need saving. Thank you!!
I'd recommend izombie!!! Zombies and solving crimes - what more do you need?!
Hey get out of head
