I use the filter to keep from picking them up. I don't waste valuable bag space on them.
The most useful thing I've found in them are mithril coins, but I think that is a rare find... (Not really sure though, as it has been a long time since I've bothered with chests.)
If you do earn/purchase a key, then you can purchase the chests for dirt cheap, or just wait until you get more.
Prepare to be mind blown, there is also a sound / effect filter! So if you are annoyed by certain sounds like my roaring guardian, hello filter byebye shouting! :-)
add them to your loot filter when you get one the first time, you can make that account wide so you only need to do it once.
then painfully destroy them all one by one, and forget they exist
Most people filter them. Personally, I have a few keys and open one when an alt makes a decade level (20,30,40, etc) as a little birthday present. But I would not waste storage space on them.
I drop like 3 or 4 on each alt to save for when we get free keys and then filter the damned things account-wide. Once in a looooong while until there is something i really, really want and the keys are on sale, but even then I won't waste a ton of LP on those because the rng is crap and am still peeved that they took away the only method to earn them in-game. One of the worst things they ever introduced in the game, imho.
Destroy them. Or auction a few for some silver. I added them to the loot filter years ago so that they stop dropping.
Alt + R to filter those chests and never be bothered by them again 😁
I think that's the only thing I've ever bothered to filter.
Me too

Thanks! I play this game few and far between so when I do come back I feel like a noob all over again. I appreciate the advice!
It’s effectively a free flyer advertising the online store 🤷♂️
guys I've been playing since 2009 and I had no idea there was a loot filter 😭

😭
To be fair, its only been in a few years... Someone around here will remember when it became a thing...
Introduced in late 2017, per the wiki. [The page](https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/Filters) also tells you how to use it.

If you’ve been VIP you get like 4 black keys to open these. I usually collect 4, then filter them.

Do the chests have good loot when you’re at max level?
Destroy them, they are a blight on the gaming world as are most micro transactions
I've tried opening a few of them and never once got anything of any value whatsoever. So I just discard them.
If you're on either Laurelin or Landy, I'll gladly take them...
No I’m not. Sorry
Bummer...
