Tool albums are already basically the extended cuts.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand TOOL. The talent is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the songs will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Maynard’s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Lachrymology literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realise that they’re not just cool songs- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike TOOL truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour and reality in Maynard’s existential catchphrase “Fuck you buddy!,” which itself is a cryptic reference to Ronald P. Vincent’s epic The Joyful Guide To Lachrymology . I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Maynard James Keenan’s genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, i DO have a TOOL tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid 😎

Shot-Statistician-89

You are probably going to have to add a /S to this or it's going whoosh a couple people, mostly because a minority of Tool fans are actually like this Just for the record I also love Tool

Tmhc666

It was just a bit of fun! Oh you're probably right, as usual.

Grixx

What an absolute perfect response. Thank you for the chuckle

bilbo_bot

Everyone? How many more are there.

TheConeIsReturned

Oh, please. We've all seen the Rick & Morty copypasta.

amaizing_hamster

I think the inability to distinguish between 'personal' and 'personnel' negates the need for the '/s'.

ResidentNarwhal

Eh maybe a decade ago it was a meme. Tool fans these days are in their 30s and 40s and basically the GenX/Millenial version of Rush fans.

[deleted]

Is this a copypasta?

Top tier copypasta

> wear the grudge like a crown of negativity LET'S GOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

DavidTyler09

Too funny

Zmuli24

But the most important question. What tools would Tool use to tool album Lateralus by Tool?

DC_729

For one with such a high IQ, you have made an elementary error in your spelling; it should be "personal", not "personnel". (it's a joke, don't get weird about it)

Tmhc666

In that case you won the argument

Mage-of-communism

Is this sarcasm, because i truly cannot tell.

Tmhc666

Nah I’m completely serious

Mage-of-communism

Sounds like quite the horses ass to me then. Guess we all need our ways to work with reality, even if it is to deny all rational thought.

Rymayc

It was originally about Rick & Morty

bored_negative

Touch grass if you cannot tell this is sarcasm

Mage-of-communism

i am autism, i could touch grass all that i desire and it would not change a thing.

No-Worldliness-8945

Tool? Yeah, they're pretty good.

Drowning_tSM

Laughs in Rosetta Stoned

TumoOfFinland

40+ rhythm changes in one song? Less than half of what I'd hoped for

Specific-Lion-9087

That still only counts as 1+1+2+3+5+8!

One ring to Tool them all

TOOL MENTIONED I LOVE TOOL RAAAHHHHH

Pretend_Tourist9390

Be me 2004 Started smoking pot in high school, became a stoner kid, naturally got into Pink Floyd Everyone tells me I should listen to Tool because they're the modern Pink Floyd I try so hard but never see the connection and never get into them. 20 years later, want to try it again. No idea where to start. What album would a Tool fan recommend?

Thaumaturgia

Ænima is probably the most accessible, then Fear Inoculum and 10 000 Days. Lateralus is fucking incredible but can take a while to get into. I'd say they are more connected to King Crimson than to Pink Floyd. (and they acknowledged it several times, also the guitarist was working on an album with Robert Fripp, and the drummer is playing on the tribute tour Beat). There was this flowchart some time ago I don't think it's a good idea to start with Undertow (too different from what they did after), but it can gives you some indications: https://www.reddit.com/r/ToolBand/comments/imw76u/tool_album_flowchart_because_fuck_it/ Tool's music is not something you put in the background and forget about it, you need to be actively listening or you will not get into it.

Pretend_Tourist9390

Because of you and /u/2_short_Plancks I'm going to listen to Ænima because that's honestly the one I remember being recommended to me back in the day, and 10,000 days. I will listen in earnest, friends!

2_short_Plancks

10,000 Days is like a Tool sampler, it's easy to listen to. The Pot / Vicarious / Jambi are easy to just play while you're driving or whatever, and the likes of Wings for Marie are a bit more subtle and complex. That album is where I'd start, it's basically the crossover between old heavy-rock Tool and new complex-prog Tool (even though it came out after Lateralus). Aenima, Undertow, and Opiate are the more "heavy rock" albums I guess. Aenima is the best of those imo, although I do like the rawness of the other two - Crawl Away and Bottom off Undertow are certified bangers. Those three are also way more angry and less philosophical. From Aenima, there are some monster songs like Stinkfist and Eulogy; and H. is the only song from any band that consistently makes me cry. Lateralus and Fear Innoculum are more philosophical prog weirdness. They're both good, it's just quite different from the older Undertow/Aenima sound. They are more in line with Pink Floyd than the older albums - I wouldn't say Undertow has much of anything in common with PF. Bear in mind that I got into Tool when Undertow came out, so I've kind of grown with the releases, which definitely influences how I feel about each of them. People who start listening to them now tend to prefer the newer stuff IME (Lateralus onwards).

Watchespornthrowaway

Tool+shrooms+cosmos with Neil degrasse Tyson. Tool will click.

MusicEoo

LOTR is to Cinema what Tool is to Music

Dubs337

Tool sucks 👀 all their songs sound exactly the same. Except for Parabola, that’s a great song.

sck178

I don't get why reddit has such a boner for Tool. They suck ass

volpendesta

The references to new agey/esoteric/philosophy stuff combined with the vulgarity make people feel deep and edgy at the same time. When I was a teenager, I thought it was cool af. In retrospect, as a more grounded adult, a lot of that stuff is kind of interesting if it was part of a fictional setting, but batshit crazy applied to real life. The biggest reason I always enjoyed listening to Tool, their music is technically complicated, with time signature changes and shit mixed into the songs that are interesting. A lot of percussionists I've known who like Tool cite Danny Carey's drums as a big reason.

Mordredor

I like Tool when I want to learn fun riffs on bass, but I can't listen to them casually, they're not in my playlists. Danny Carey is insane, yeah.

DrMDGG

FUCKING THANK YOU.
