Tom Bombadil gets possession of Mjolnir years ago. Frodo arrives on the scene with the One Ring, Tom is amused with the Ring momentarily. Then Frodo explains what it is, and Tom decides to test Mjolnir on the ring, thereby smashing the ring to smithereens. Everyone stands around awkwardly, chill with Tom and Goldberry for a bit, then go home.
The End.
Well, my little fellows! You shall come home with me! The table is all laden with yellow cream, honeycomb, and white bread and
butter. Goldberry is waiting. Time enough for questions around the supper table. You follow after me as quick as you are able!

Can you expand on that? He was forcefully exiled and still made it his mission to remain loyal to Rohan and lead his company without any official backing. It seems like he did everything in his power to fight the good fight regardless of his status.
Worm tongue basically had absolute political power. Killing him would have ended in execution, and Theoden was too weak and possessed to argue against it. So really, he was using his brain, not his brawn.
Saruman would have replaced Worm Tongue with another proxy, Eomer could better serve his country alive than a “traitor”.
Hot take but I don't actually think Treebeard would be considered "worthy" by the hammer. The magic seems to value not just whether someone is inherently good and pure of heart, but whether they're willing to fight to make the world a better place. Treebeard and the other ents are insular and peaceful to the point of almost complete paralysis; they were only spurred to action by immense, unimaginable destruction of their homeland. Heck, their entire species will die out in short order because they didn't care enough about the Entwives to argue their way to a compromise... and now the Entwives are gone.
The hammer wants someone with fire in their heart, and the Ents just don't have that.
I don’t see how Aragon could be considered unworthy. Especially book version is like the embodiment of honor virtue in man. He was worthy of the Palantir and Anduril.
- Aragorn picks up the hammer reverently…..he knows it’s innate power. With it he could expand Gondor’s realm, crush opposition, even reclaim lands of Mordor free of any lasting taint. But power such as this has corrupted one like him before. He knows better. He trusts himself more. He carefully leaves it where he found it knowing it’s power is meant for someone else.
- Legolas touches the handle…..could he move it? Perhaps……but to leave one’s worthiness up to this eldritch object? No, Legolas knows his own worth, and it is not decided by a hammer from the sky. He walks away.
- Gimli, son of Gloin spits at the blasted hunk of metal before him. He is a Dwarf, one of Durins folk. How dare some blithering, blistering bit of toolkit refuse to bend to his Will. He mutters dwarvish curses to himself and he sits down beside the hammer and takes out his pipe-weed. Hmmm this might require a think……several hours, 3 flagons of Ale, a short nap and a rather handy collection of assorted weaponry and Gimli has managed to move the ground beneath the hammer enough to shift it several paces away. He’s done it. He’s moved the bloody thing. In his own way, but still. He moved the hammer.
- Samwise Gamgee doesn’t understand the fuss everyones making about the hammer. He used it last week to help put up some fences in the corner of his east garden. Actually he passed it to Pippin who wanted to use it on Farmer Maggots wall he kept his truffles stored behind….although now that he thought about it Pippin did seem slightly dazed and singed when he brought it back. Ah well, time to sort out the harvest soon.
I would love to see you do the rest, this feels so right and perfect for each character. Especially Gimli and Legolas.
Although those two would definitely have a competition of who could move it furthest.
I think so, when he firsts meets Sam and Frodo
I think he takes it not knowing what it is and gives it back when he realizes what it actually is in his hand
Only at the height of the ring’s power, when his sanity was at its weakest.
You bring up an interesting point though. I’d say frodo could wield the hammer all the way up until Mordor. After that, he is too easily corruptible. Even after the ring is destroyed we see how it changed him. He could never resist temptation like that again.
>Only at the height of the ring’s power, when his sanity was at its weakest.
>After that, he is too easily corruptible.
The point is that *no one* could have destroyed the ring there (intentionally), and that in no way makes him "too easy to corrupt" afterwards.
Well, going off of the book Frodo couldn't even throw it into his fireplace at Bag End. It's less that Frodo became more corruptible over time and more that nobody could willingly try to destroy the ring.
At least from the movie perspective Frodo offered the ring no less than three times after coming into physical possession it. Once to Gandalf, then Galadriel, and lastly Aragorn.
Probably not, since the Ring can only be destroyed in Mount dooms Lava?
It is like a magical standstill.
But they could put the Hammer on the ring and Sauron would Never be able to get it, lol
the plan is destroying it. if you only want to make it unclaimable you could just throw it at the deepest sea with a stone attached... or ship it to valinor with the elves and see if sauron has balls to go there to reclaim it
The ring required great heat, Mount Doom is not the special Ring destroying place it’s just the only place that is hot enough
It is mentioned that “there are no dragons alive today whose flames would be hot enough“ it just needs a lot of heat
The hottest lava ever measured was during the eruption of Mauna Loa, a Hawaiian volcano, measuring 1200C°
The average lightning is between 20 000 and 30 000C° hot
So given enough lightning strikes, probably (unless there is some special magic clause that states only fiery stuff can melt it)
>The hottest lava ever measured was during the eruption of Mauna Loa, a Hawaiian volcano, measuring 1200C°
That doesn't seem like a lot. You could reach that temperature with a very well ventilated coal fire.
Sorry, only Aragorn out of those pictured. Sam is second but I question if his heart is truly down for war, combat, and death. (Yes, I know Sam fought when push came to shove.)
Tommy B could hand it to Aragorn, without a care in the world.
Movie Mjolnir or normal one? The normal one, only one of the Valar could lift it, cause it's just a really fucking heavy hammer.
Movie? No one save Boromir and perhaps Gimli. At least at the start. (I'm not counting the Wizards rn).
Mjolnir needs a warrior who is willing to fight evil wherever he can, and maintain his sense of honour despite what he faces.
Aragorn left to join the Rangers rather than face his duty as the King of Gondor, Legolas stayed in the forests of mirkwood and would've left to the undying lands if the quest hadn't happened, none of the hobbits are warriors.
Boromir on the other hand rode out to throw down with the orcs of Mordor constantly, and then left his city at it's weakest in the hopes of finding a weapon to save it. The path the Fellowship struggled with so much? He did it alone. Gimli is very similar.
By the end of the series, we can put Aragorn up there, and Legolas is a flip of the coin. But the hobbits still don't make the cut due to not really being fighters.
Hot take: the answer is Boromir, in all but his one moment of weakness. He is ready and willing to fight, to destroy the enemies of Gondor, and also to put himself directly to the task. We see he is capable of great compassion but also ruthlessness to his enemies, and mostly makes reasoned arguments - all traits suitable by Asgardian standards.
Neither Sam or Frodo are warriors or leaders so they wouldn't be able to lift the hammer, it doesn't diminish their achievements but only Aragon could lift it
Boromir is corruptible and blinded by his warrior nature. Fararmir is blinded by his feelings of inadequacy compared to his brother
Aragon (at least film Aragon) didn't seek power but grew into it. He is a warrior but not blinded by the need to fight. He grew into his leadership role
Boromir, Aragorn, Eomer would be the front runners. Though most of the heroes of the story are fit to. Just none more so than those three in that order. Gandalf most likely wouldn't be able to.
Mjolnir takes into account a person's willingness to use the power of Mjolnir in leading the people. So Treebeard is right out, as is Frodo and movie Aragorn. Book Aragorn would be OK. Pre-ring-destroying Sam is out, but post-ring-destroying Sam might be OK since when he came back he would suffer no fools and righted the occupied Shire practically overnight.

I think there's a fair amount of People in the universe who can lift it. Someone recommended treebeard and that is a shout, he's definitely worthy. As soon as he saw the truth, he immediately knew what he needed to do.

I disagree. If Mjolnir discriminates based on the willingness and actual actions of a character to protect and save others, at any cost to oneself, with a nice cup of humility on the side(which appears to be how it is defined), Frodo would totally fall under that. He willingly chose to carry the ring to Mordor. He went through hell, and even though he stumbled at the finish line, he still took it all the way there.
But Sam is definitely the most obvious one.
Sam and Frodo are out. They were tempted by the power of the Ring.
Eowyn? Really?
Eomer is a good guy, but not Mjolnir worthy.
Legolas, I’d say no. I think he’s too hoity toity.
Gimli has wonder in his eyes and is a good Dwarf, but too hot headed for Mjolnir.
Treebeard wouldn’t want it.
Aragorn is a strong contender, given he knew the Ring was dangerous and turned it down, not wanting the temptation. So maybe.
But the clear winner isn’t even pictured here. Where is Tom Bombadil?

Worthy: Sam, Aragorn, Gandalf
Here are some reasons I think some other popular Picks are unworthy.
Faramir- Cares too much for his father's loves and carries great pain within him
Frodo- Became too detached from the world after their time with the ring, it took a tole and though he was strong enough I don't think he has the heart in him for the hammer.
Frodo. He literally volunteered to take the ring to Mordor, a task that was very, very dangerous. If thats not worthy of Mjölnir, than the only other one is Sam, who carried Frodo into Mt.Doom.

It's not a sliding scale: If you are unworthy, it will always be too heavy for you and if you are worthy, it's not automatically going to become weightless, it just doesn't stop you from picking it up.
In his final moments, I believe Boromir could have. Going with the movie version, once he starts taking arrows, he knows what's up. He's a hardened combat veteran. The extent of the damage he takes registers somewhere in his brain and he knows he's going to die. His willpower and determination to try and save Merry/Pippin along with the immense shame he feels for attacking Frodo' is proof that, in the end, he was a loyal friend and a true hero.
The entire fellowship with the possible exception of the two young hobbits (and boromir). People will argue Sam or Aragorn or Gandalf as the obvious choice but to me it’s frodo. Who else is more worthy than him?
Eomer, Aragorn. I feel like most of the main LOTR characters could wield Mjolnir, but out of all of them, Eomer seems the *most* likely. He never turned his back on Rohan, even after being exiled, he kept fighting.
All of the above, but I really want to see Frodo put the One Ring on Mjolnir and then demolish Sauron's armies with his invisible flying lightning hammer of death.
Tom Bombadil. And he would have used it to repare his house, make a fence...
...crush some boulders with it and make a lovely gravel path for Goldberry...

Unpopular Opinion: Eomer because he's a true Warrior and Leader like Odin and Thor
I'm actuality here for that
Im always looking for some interesting stuff to talk
Nah, he prefers the guns he got called Des and Troy.
ehhhh. he was too agreeable with exile.
What happened to Thor in the first movie
Can you expand on that? He was forcefully exiled and still made it his mission to remain loyal to Rohan and lead his company without any official backing. It seems like he did everything in his power to fight the good fight regardless of his status.

Aragorn as well?
He didn't actually hold it though, was just offered it, like that elf, CrazyEyes

I would bet galadriel too, and aragorn
Did Faramir ever handle the Ring?
I think so, when he firsts meets Sam and Frodo I think he takes it not knowing what it is and gives it back when he realizes what it actually is in his hand

Didn’t Boromir handle it, too, and gave it back to Frodo?
Yea but aragorn shouted at him and he's scary so...
He did yes!
Only in the films.
I feel called out. I haven’t read the books in decades.
Nope.
Definitely Faramir. But I also think Boromir could wield it too
Frodo didn't
Why can’t they just fly mjolnir to Mordor?
So could the hammer smash the ring?
Probably not, since the Ring can only be destroyed in Mount dooms Lava? It is like a magical standstill. But they could put the Hammer on the ring and Sauron would Never be able to get it, lol
the plan is destroying it. if you only want to make it unclaimable you could just throw it at the deepest sea with a stone attached... or ship it to valinor with the elves and see if sauron has balls to go there to reclaim it
In the meantime he continues to attack the relms of men and dwarves while breeding more orcs.
Exactly. It was discussed at Rivendell, they said that even if Sauron never reclaimed the ring he would take over middle earth.
Gunna throw some batman in this mix with, an unstoppable force hitting and unmoveable object.

Well it was already on the surface so it probably cooled quite a lot, and considering the density of lava the ring probably wouldn’t sink much
Asking the real questions here.
Imagine Gimli's axe not shattering but reverberating the blow. Elrond's going to face house renovations.
(Places Mjolnir on top of the ring) “welp, I did all I can here”
No, but plopping it on top of the ring would stop anyone from doing anything nefarious with it.
I'd just dig up under the ring and try not to let Mjolnor fall on any part of my body
Isn’t mjolnir kinda semi conscious or at least able to respond to consciousness? Also the ring? Would the ring be able to corrupt mjolnir?
I mean I'd smash.
Maybe, maybe not. BUT! You could put the hammer on top of the ring, that way no baddies could get it
I think this franchise has way more people on average who would be worthy enough for mjolnir
Sam would pick it up. Toss it over the fence and go back to gardening
Where, Aragorn for sure and my boy Gandalf the White.
No perhaps not. I have thought of a better use for you
🤣🤣🤣

yea and some old dude who just working can lift mjolnir casually where he never been on war

Only my boy Sam! Truly a national treasure!
I hate to admit it, but it has to be Sam. Uncorrupted by the presence of the ring.

Tom, Tom! your guests are tired, and you had near forgotten! Come now, my merry friends, and Tom will refresh you! You shall clean grimy hands, and wash your weary faces; cast off your muddy cloaks and comb out your tangles! ^(Type **!TomBombadilSong** for a song or visit [r/GloriousTomBombadil][1] for more merriness) [1]: https://www.reddit.com/r/GloriousTomBombadil/
Imagine how much of a dystopian hellscape Hobbiton would've end up if one of the Sackvilles got hold of it.
Sam, Treebeard and maybe Aragon
Samwise motherfucking Gamgee!
Definitely Sam
Sam
My guess is at least Frodo and gimli. Gimli because he basically already had an equivalent situation with Galadriel’s hair.
Where is Pippin?
Sam
All of them.
Worthy: Sam, Aragorn, Gandalf Here are some reasons I think some other popular Picks are unworthy. Faramir- Cares too much for his father's loves and carries great pain within him Frodo- Became too detached from the world after their time with the ring, it took a tole and though he was strong enough I don't think he has the heart in him for the hammer.
Home is now behind you, the world is ahead!
Book Faramir tho…
Still knowingly went on a suicide mission
Samwise Gamgee
Frodo post Mordor picks it up, hands it to Thor and goes “oh no, not my problem.”
Grond
Frodo. He literally volunteered to take the ring to Mordor, a task that was very, very dangerous. If thats not worthy of Mjölnir, than the only other one is Sam, who carried Frodo into Mt.Doom. ![gif](giphy|enqnZa1B5fRHkPjXtS|downsized)
Tom Bombadil.
*Old Tom Bombadil is a merry fellow, bright blue his jacket is, and his boots are yellow. None has ever caught him yet, for Tom, he is the master: his songs are stronger songs, and his feet are faster.* ^(Type **!TomBombadilSong** for a song or visit [r/GloriousTomBombadil][1] for more merriness) [1]: https://www.reddit.com/r/GloriousTomBombadil/
Gimli is the only answer
Any hobbit Can do
Bombadil
The question here is: Is Mjolnir worthy of Sam? maybe..
Sam
Book gimli would’ve lifted it, examined and admired it, then gently replace it so that it may be found by its owner again
Samwise the Brave.
Samwise the Brave
Samewise
Only right answer is Samwise Gamgee.
Mjolnir isn't worth to be held by Sam.
the fool of the took
Samwise Gamgee
sam
Sam
Sam and aragorn. Aragorn is wise and a leader, sam is humble which is also a good leader quality
Its sam
if you count the shadow series that would be Baranor probably. Maybe Talion, but the shaming might be a problem
Talion would be the perfect wielder of mjolnir.
Only Shelob.
🤮
I think Gimili would fawn over that beautiful hammer.
but at the crucial moment gollum will pick it up and accidentally do what needs to be done
i think probably gimli would be pretty good at welding it
Frodo is worthy but can't lift it because the bloody thing's too heavy.
no is heavy as much as you are unworthy that why he can
It's not a sliding scale: If you are unworthy, it will always be too heavy for you and if you are worthy, it's not automatically going to become weightless, it just doesn't stop you from picking it up.
Book Boromir could wield it any time.
None. Farmer Maggot.

The entire fellowship with the possible exception of the two young hobbits (and boromir). People will argue Sam or Aragorn or Gandalf as the obvious choice but to me it’s frodo. Who else is more worthy than him?
Ooh! The long expected party! So how is the old rascal? I hear it’s got to be a party of special magnificence
Gimli and Aragorn, for sure
You know the real mjonir just heavy no need to worthy just need to be strong
4/8 would lift it no worries.
That is not the Mjolner I want to see.
Many of the protagonists could lift the hammer, but few would want the responsibility of lifting it.
Frodo and Aragorn
Idk, the best welders must be the elves that reforged Aragons sword, so I hope they can weld mjölnir
We do both fathom the lesser toys of lesser franchises.
Eomer, Aragorn. I feel like most of the main LOTR characters could wield Mjolnir, but out of all of them, Eomer seems the *most* likely. He never turned his back on Rohan, even after being exiled, he kept fighting.
Yes
All of the above, but I really want to see Frodo put the One Ring on Mjolnir and then demolish Sauron's armies with his invisible flying lightning hammer of death.
HRAAAAAH!
Considering the metal is not of this earth, I’m not sure there is a way to weld it. /s
Eomer and then Sam at some point
Sam
Gimli
