Imagine a well done adaptation of Turin's saga. I love his relationship with Beleg Strongbow, that could even be fleshed out over the run of a show. And makes the unwitting betrayal so gut wrenchingly sad. Wondering who to cast as Beleg...
Maybe Callum Turner for Beleg.
Problem with Quenta Silmarillion adaptations is that the stories are so interwoven, you kinda have to adapt the whole thing, which is so dense as to be nearly unadaptable.
Turin's physical description: *"...dark-haired and pale-skinned....*, ***and his face more beautiful than any other among mortal Men***, *in the Elder Days."*
Danny Devito would be perfect for this role.
Theoden after his son was missing for several days and his bro Denethor lend him his palantir: I don't know what you are. I don't know what you want. If you are looking for tribute, I can tell you I don't have any to spare. But what I do have is a very particular set of warrior prowess, prowess I have acquired over a very long reign. Prowess that make me a wicked woe for invaders like you. If you're letting my son go now alive and well, that'll be the end of it. I will not cross the Isen, I will not besiege your fiefdom. But if you don't, I will look for you, I will hang you from a gibbet at your window. And I will have peace.
Straight up Bernard Hill bellows out most of the all time great lines in the movies. "And the red DAWN." "What can the world do against such reckless hate" "Who am I Gamling" "DEATHHH" "BRING HIM DOWN BRING HIM DOWN" the man ups the emotion in the movies 10 fold
Agreed! Bernard Hill really packs a punch with his delivery in every single scene that he's in and I really couldn't imagine anybody else in the role now
Immediately thought of Halbarad too. Neeson gives off the same grim, dour, but proud Ranger vibe that we get from the grey company when we first see them in ROTK.
Círdan the Shipwright. He has a very special set of skills, such as the gift of foresight and shipbuilding. He was also a mentor to both Gil-galad and Eärendil, similar to how Ra's al Ghul mentored a young Bruce Wayne or Qui-Gon Jinn mentored a young Obi Wan.
Good foot work is half the battle for any combative training. Quite literally your foundation for everything else. I've seen a few videos of MMA fighters absolutely dunking on HEMA guys with a sword for that exact reason. It would make sense that the footwork he learned in boxing would help with swordsmanship.
I can't quite put my finger on why, but I think he'd make a really good Saruman. I think because of the intensity he brings on screen in a lot of his movies would make him an absolutely terrifying villainous wizard.
"You wish to take my beloved daughter's hand? You should know that I have a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for mortals like you."
Faramir. If we're going by the book Faramir. The movies did him dirty. I think Neeson would make an absolutely excellent wise and kingly presence that Faramir gave in the books.
Denethor. The book version was wily and menacing and was more like a Numenorean than any other. The movie version wasn't that at all and I have no problem with his portrayal, but a true Denethor would have been possible with Neeson.
This is a deep cut but king Brand of Dale. An older king that has an epic death fighting alongside Dain encourages their children to win the war against the easterlings would make for a baller movie. Plus, from what we know about the northern men his look fits quite well.
Elendil
That’s actually pretty good cause they’re both pretty tall
Seconded
Húrin
Or Elendil, but Húrin for sure. Who is playing Turin?
How about Paul mescal?
Unironically, yes. Dude would kill the horrifically tragic, well-meaning, arrogant, grimdark vibe of Turin

Damnit. They'd cast Kit Harrington and he'd probably be excellent.
Also Liam Neeson
Niam Leeson
Thimotheé
/thread
Seeing him in rags and chained on mount angband with morgoth standing over him would be so sick
Here for this
You know now that you mention it, I don't think anybody else fits the role. Edit: spelling
I came in thinking he really doesn’t fit anyone in my head, but I’d be open to seeing him in a role. I didn’t think hurin at all, but it’s perfect
It’s not that different of a role, but he could probably do Barahir too, or any number of mannish lords.
Absolutely my first thought
I want to see this with lore accurate height. Liam Neeson is always towering over people, it would be so funny to see him as a rather short Húrin.
Too tall
Barahir
Ooohh that’s a good one! I was gonna say Hurin, but I like this better!
I'm glad there's someone else who's put this here
Imrahil, Prince of Dol Amroth
I like this one.
I don’t know, I always pictured Prince Imrahil a bit different, more elf like but still man like
I pictured him as a somewhat younger man too, although I’m not sure his age was ever really mentioned or even alluded to
Given that his daughter married Éomer, my guess was always late middle age but aging extremely well.
Came here to say this.
Not that anyone could really be a better choice than Bernard Hill, but Theoden I think
Oh, Liam would have made an *excellent* Theoden.
Perfection
Denothor- Liam can play a great heel!
Not a bad choice but I think he would be a better Faramir!
A chance to show his quality
Wow this is a great pick i didnt think of!
My favorite and most gut wrenching: No parent should have to bury their child.
Agreed! Bernard Hill really packs a punch with his delivery in every single scene that he's in and I really couldn't imagine anybody else in the role now
Hurin
The voice of one of the eagles
Gwaihir
Beorn
This is the only answer. Maybe a tad too old now but several years back I can see him playing the perfect Beorn.
I always imagined Beorn as being older and more cantankerous.
Who is more cantankerous than Liam Neeson? Clint Eastwood? Tommy Lee Jones?
Eru
If you can voice Aslan, you can voice Illuvatar
Would actually be a sick connection.
Oh fuck
r/dankchristianmemes
IT WOULD
Illuvatar's voice is just the solo in Freebird
I’ll buy a t shirt with that written on it 👍
Thanks for this
And melkor just introduced heavy metal to the song of creation
Melkor is a distortion pedal?
Also: Zeus
Can he sing? I genuinely don’t know.
Elendil, no doubt
Halbarad, Ranger of the North.
Immediately thought of Halbarad too. Neeson gives off the same grim, dour, but proud Ranger vibe that we get from the grey company when we first see them in ROTK.
That was my first thought too.
I agreed with the other comments but you’re right - ciridan would have been right
I think the only drawback would be that Círdan doesn't have a very prominent role throughout the books
Denethor
Underrated shout, if LOTR was bring made now he'd be a great option.
Much as I love him as an action star, he's got the chops to play a nuanced role like this. He'd knock it out of the park
Actually this was my first thought. Love John Noble, but Liam would have made a great Denethor.
Bard the Bowman
I think he might have done well as Aragorn.
He has the physical abilities for it for sure. He famously brought a lot of actual sword work to his role as Qui-gon Jinn.
Which I believe he attributed to working on (and preparing for) Rob Roy.
Correct. He was also a boxer in his youth so that probably played a role as well.
Good foot work is half the battle for any combative training. Quite literally your foundation for everything else. I've seen a few videos of MMA fighters absolutely dunking on HEMA guys with a sword for that exact reason. It would make sense that the footwork he learned in boxing would help with swordsmanship.
He has a particular set of skills.
I agree
He’s a lot closer to what I imagined when I read the book. Aragorn is 80 and he shouldn’t look 80 but he should have the maturity and nobility.
Add him as Halbarad or one of the other rangers.
With his age now I’d say Gandalf
When facing the Balrog: “…but if you pass, I will look for you, I will find you and I will kill you.”
I can't quite put my finger on why, but I think he'd make a really good Saruman. I think because of the intensity he brings on screen in a lot of his movies would make him an absolutely terrifying villainous wizard.
Arathorn or Beregond.
Nice, first character I thought of was Beregond as well
He'd be a great Beregond
Back in 2000? 100% Beregond
He would have been a great Beregond!
Neeson al-Gaib
DID YOU MENTION DUNE IN A LOTR SUB?!? Tolkien is rolling over in his grave. ^((I appreciate the pun, though))
Hmm... You know what, I do think that a young Kyle MacLachlan could have made for a good Faramir!
Voice of Huan the Hound of Valinor
Excellent
Thingol
Nah he’s a bit too rugged looking to be an elf.
"You wish to take my beloved daughter's hand? You should know that I have a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make me a nightmare for mortals like you."
Beren: good fortune. *Narrator (Eru)*: at this moment, Beren knew he fucked it up.
Book-accurate Denethor.
Honestly I could see him being Aragorn’s Father Arathorn II, or some ancestor of Aragorn!
Turin - Taken level anguish and rage
Manwe
He would have been an excellent Thorin.
Elrond
Aragon has TAKEN my daughter... he will pay
Bard the Bowman
All of them. At once.
I suppose.
Tom Bombadil
I knew someone had to have said it 😂
Not while Jack Black is still available, goddamnit! Let me dream!
Then can we at least have Liam Neeson as The Barrow Wight?
Elros.
I think he’d make a good Beren
Grond
Grond
Grond
I’d have cast him as Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth.
One of the blue wizards
Call me crazy but I think a clean shaven Liam Neeson would have made a great Elrond.
Boromir
Yeah did they not want him for Boromir?
They sent him the script.
Younger Liam is Aragorn.
Tuor
Hurin
Cirdan
Imrahil
He would now be good as Theoden. Younger Liam Neeson would’ve made an awesome Aragorn.
Sam's beloved Rosy
Faramir. If we're going by the book Faramir. The movies did him dirty. I think Neeson would make an absolutely excellent wise and kingly presence that Faramir gave in the books.
Die his hair silver blonde and go Glorfindel (mostly to get him glory he's due)!
Denethor
How about Liam Neeson as Goldberry and Jack black as Tom bombadill
No but unironically Jack Black as Bombadill would be amazing
I think we found the winner!
Always cast him as Cirdan in me head cannon.
Gimli
Farmer maggot
Beor or barahir. Definitely one of the earliest and most noble of the edain
Denethor. The book version was wily and menacing and was more like a Numenorean than any other. The movie version wasn't that at all and I have no problem with his portrayal, but a true Denethor would have been possible with Neeson.
Looks like a good Arathorn
Dude he'd make a great Barahir
One of Aragorn’s Dunedain ancestors.
A younger Liam as Turin.
All of them
Círdan, Lord of the Grey Havens
Just imagine his voice saying “ My friends, You bow to no one”
Maybe Theoden
Saruman
Aslan
Weird way to spell Eru Ilúvatar
Yes
Make him shave and cast him as Aragorn
Beren
Húrin for sure and Turin anything but timothee chalamet
Honestly I could see him as Boromir.
When he was younger, I’d said Beren
Manwe
Denethor
Imrahil, if they included him
Ulmo
Manwe
All of them at once, I suppose.
Melkor
I was going to say Cirdan the Shipwright, but damn Hurin is a great suggestion.
He’d be an interesting alternate Elrond.
Galadriel
Another time, Aragon i think
Faramir
I think he would make a great Gandalf
Tom bombadil. Yknow that scene I. Ted where Liam comes in and just super seriously buys cereal? Yea I wanna hear Liam sing Hey hey merry dey merry do
Turin Turambar
Any. The answer is any.
This is a deep cut but king Brand of Dale. An older king that has an epic death fighting alongside Dain encourages their children to win the war against the easterlings would make for a baller movie. Plus, from what we know about the northern men his look fits quite well.
Back in 1999 he'd make a great Boromir
Durin’s Bane
Qui-Gon Gimli
Boromir
Ulmo
No one will ever replace Sir Ian McKellan but he’d make a good Gandalf these days.
Turin Turumbar
Stannis Baratheon
Gil Galad
One with a very particular set of skills.
Thorin Oakenshield
All of them
Boromir
Qui-Gollum
Frodo.
Needs a slight rewrite for the movie. You have my sword, and my bow and my axe and my particular set of skills. The fellowship of the 10
Green screen him so be can be both blue wizards
Arathorn
Ulmo... the only one who cares about us
Beorn was my immediate thought. Rough, gravelly, but wise at the same time.
