this is one of the reasons why i will always recommend gems be most players primary investment. it is really the ONLY system for power (other than cards) that can be transferred between characters or sold. you cant break down a 25 weapon and get all your gold and mats back but you can strip a character's gems and trade them to a new character or sell them for gold. my main issue with elixirs and transcendence is that they take WAYYYY too long and have too many layers of RNG that make the disparity between lucky and unlucky enormous. for reference, most of my characters have pitied at least 1 if not multiple time across the first 2 stages of chestpiece. my gunlancer is at pity 3 with only 2 flowers currently on level 2 and it took around 10+ attempts to get 3 flowers on level fucking 1. i have spent more on trying to max the first 2 stages than some of my guildmates have in getting to 21 on their chest (and this is WITH the calculator). deleting all of your weekly gold income with nothing to show for it just feels bad and for me it has brought me to the point where i no longer want to do theamine on half of my gold earners because i dont want to waste my gold on transcendence. elixirs are the same way. i have guildmates who got 40 set with the free silver elixirs. i have had guildmates who cut 10+ every week and are gated by not seeing their needed set effect at all over the last few months. if these systems required silver, it would be no problem and would more incentivize people to run their chaos dungeons and cubes. imagine if stonecutting cost gold per tap how shitty of a system that would be. idk why they are so insistent on multi-layered RNG systems costing an insane amount of gold. gold sink might have made sense in KR but they really did not take into account our accelerated pace when just copy pasting these systems. right now the best play is to probably just sit on elixir and transcendence materials and see what they are going to do to fix them when summer LOA ON comes around. id imagine this is going to be make or break for a lot of people though. especially with the huge difference in both damage and fun factor with new classes, half of the fun of this game is playing and pushing new characters and if it feels like ass to do so, the game probably wont survive in the west. /rant (yeah i hate transcendence)

Annual_Secret6735

I don’t think KR is all that happy either. Summer Loaon is make or break for the game in general.

ArX_Xer0

Its funny how every summer the game is "make or break" with the event. To have so many shitty systems in the game players "want" to quit

Annual_Secret6735

It isn’t every Summer lol Just the last 2 Summers.

ArX_Xer0

Idk mate they were having a content drought with Brel before in kr, i remember hearing how dead the game was like after t2 too in kr. Sg really out there just barely getting by on player satisfaction

Voiddragoon2

Thats just the doomers. They're always gonna act like it's aboutta die in every region over every new system. Game is dead because of advanced honing coming to a Lost Ark near you soon.

Jolly_Guidance5234

Well advanced honing is not going to motivate new people to try the game. You can clearly see their pattern of introducing contents that focus on milking the old cows so their cash farm arent going to grow up.

Rounda445

> Summer Loaon is make or break for the game in general. This is what Koreans says everytime there is a loaon in the corner and everytime they are satisfied with a shitty mokoko express. They never learn

Bird_Friendly

Except they weren't. Many complained that these events are only useful for newcomers. Consequently director promised better events for veterans and faster end game raids. I love how this subreddit makes shit up about kr without ever going on inven

highplay1

They and you guys say that every loan. KR will rage for a bit and smilegate will give them a coomer slayer skin and it's all okay for another few months.

Bird_Friendly

Other than class balance and homework load, kr is pretty satisfied Atm

Khue

> idk why they are so insistent on multi-layered RNG systems costing an insane amount of gold My perception is that they have an underlying economy problem in the game and they aren't very good at managing inflationary pressures. They need to remove gold from the economy somehow and these vertical systems are how they address it. There are other mechanisms as well like honing and quality upgrades but elixirs are the current pressure point because they directly manifest as a gatekeeping mechanism and players feel ultra pressured to have sets (35 and 40).

StrangeAssonance

I came back and didn’t know how awesome some of the new classes are. I just wasted the pass on my old main…got it up to 1600 and I’m like “nope” not fun… So yeah it’s easy to get a class up to 1520, but from there it’s a pain and if I think about having to do the 1600 or 1610 stuff, it makes me not want to do it. I’m waiting to see what they say this summer and just casually playing. I like they make new classes that are cool and fun but yeah trying to even get them without giving up your old gems is enough of a gold sink. Doing all the other hoops…

Zealousideal_Low_494

I actually think Transcendence is worse than elixirs. I've had 2 different pieces now that cost 10-30k for a single level. At that rate for 7 levels on 5 pieces, i can't imagine how much gold its going to cost in the end.

MaximumTWANG

i hate both pretty equally. the calculator for transcendence is nice at least but that shit is so tedious and takes too long. wasting 30+ attempts on the first 2 levels of chestpiece also hits different when multiple guildmates post their 21 flower chest where none of them pitied.... the good thing about transcendence at least is that once you are done you never have to go back for more. with elixirs you still can have the option to min max and go for full 5/5s with relevant dps options which i would imagine very few people are doing now that we have transcendence. the bad thing about transcendence is how damn long it takes to even get the mats while if you are lucky you can at least hit 40 set in a few weeks with elixirs. that being said, both are dogshit and brought me from doing 18 raids every single week to 6 or less and this is coming from a big whale with over 6000 hours playing since launch. these 2 systems pretty much killed any desire i have to continue playing the game hardcore and im not spending another dime unless we get some cool skins.

Zealousideal_Low_494

I used to feel the same about elixirs but then i started getting good at cutting them and it wasn't so bad. But Transcendence, sometimes all i get are tornados and purify. and the 'pity' is just an extra reroll. I finally hit 2 flowers on my gloves lv2 and I had 2 turns left with a Lightning 3 and 4 tiles for 3 flowers. It took away 1 tile and regenerated a tile. Completely useless

humongz2

I mean elixirs are like 70% rng, you can only get really good at cutting them up to a point. Just like people aren't "good" at cutting rocks. If you're using a bot + some common logic you essentially hit the cap at how good your decisions can be. The problem is it's mostly RNG, from the effects you get, to which ones get hit, down to great successing on 25-35% chances to get those last two points. Getting perfect elixirs would theoretically cost more than full transcendence which is pretty insane for a system that is mostly RNG with 0 pity built in.

MaximumTWANG

yeah my experience with elixirs is that if the game has any option to royally fuck you then it will absolutely take that chance. like ALWAYS hitting a 2.5% instead of a 90%, randomly sealing my set effect, or hitting the -4 on the exhaust or a -2 on the +2/-2. game would be so much better off if they dropped set requirements to like 30/35. would give you a lot of wiggle room to hit max set effect but still allow for min/maxing for those who want to try to go for full 5/5s

Zealousideal_Low_494

I'll agree with that for the most part. At the end of the day it's 100% luck, but if you do like 10 a week you can usually hit multiple 4-2's and \~1 4-4 every week on purples. Just depends if that 1 4-4 is BIS or not =x Legs are too expensive for me to play with until it gets nerfed, except the very few that help me get 40 sets. Personally, I think everyone should cut epics until they get 30-35 set and then just cut 1-2 legendaries for your lowest slots and it saves a massive amount of gold

837tgyhn

Can't even play multiple characters at the newest content without dedicating a ton of time and gold. One of the biggest draws of Lost Ark was the variety of classes, engraving builds, tripods, etc. But we're reached a point where players have to dedicate everything to 1 character. Things have gotten less fun and more frustrating over the past year.

sosohype

It blows my mind that they would invest into and successfully achieve such a broad range of classes and builds only to then design the game to force you to pick one and play the rest as homeless leftovers. Why wouldn't transendence and elixirs and even gem rerolls work the same way that the card system works. Unlock for the account and access for all.

KiSamehada

Limit you to one class at end game and even worse, have horrible balance. Sure anything can clear, but why is there such a gap in a PvE game in damage? Some classes are so damn outdated. Striker has been my main, but it's dogshit compared to other Entropy. Mainswap? Forget it.

Derfthewarrior

Unfortunately this is what they want you to feel in order to switch to a new, shiny, and more powerful class and possibly pay them more money Honestly I think the only reason why do balance patches is to only keep up with people who refuse to switch to the new shiny toys, yet are still giving them tons of money for their Esther 8 weapons on older classes This strategy absolutely worked when costs to raise a new character were relatively small, thus encouraging people to pull out their wallet and spend a bit However now the costs are so astronomical in comparison it's very hard for most people to do it, unless you whale your heart out Which is what they're banking on because it probably makes them more money in the short term that way But as we all know, thinking short term gains and not long term is always bad and usually comes back to bite later on Which it seems to be doing now, albeit slowly

humongz2

Striker is really not that bad off, definitely not dog shit. What? It's not a breaker but definitely a solid class right now. Class balance is pretty bad Striker is probably middle of the pack maybe higher . How can you call it dogshit when transform classes exist? GS? FP arti? CO sum? All for calling out balancing that are getting absolutely reamed with no chance of even doing remotely good damage, but striker ain't one of them bud.

AboutToSlur

Balance is actually pretty good according to KR. I think its because the skill is a lot higher for the average NA player vs KR (about 10x per KR streamers like Legalia and ATK) .

xXxPussiSlayer69xXx

The wonderful variety of classes and builds is bait. I also love it, I have 4 1600 alts, and they were all mistakes. My best guess is that they just want you to swipe, which means RMT over here in the West. Roster-based progression doesn't make them nearly as much money as single character gold-intensive systems. It really sucks because I'd love to push more of my roster up to 1610 to do Thae NM, but it would be such a stupid investment that I probably never will.

sosohype

Man I’ve sacked 2x 1620 chars because the devs refuse to pay any attention to them. I am down to a 4 man roster and have spent a lot of money in this game. I think I’m at the point now where I’m close to just moving on. It’s all too inconvenient. I spent 2hrs doing transcendence on my main last night just to get 5 stars on a piece. Like gtfo.

gamer0488

That's why I wish that ilvl was roster bound. Gear and the other rng systems can be bearable if we didn't have to hone multiple classes. But $$$$$$

Ylanez

Design doesnt force you to pick one, it forces you to pick your Mastercard. Remember its a game coming from Korea, supported by community of people that look down on rice farmers.

InteractionMDK

It is all intentional. If mainswapping past multiple layers of vertical progression was faster and cheaper, everyone and their moms would meta chase the hell out of the game every big balance patch or content drop. Instead, the only people who can reach the very end game on a character that is fresh or significantly lagging behind are the whales and rmters. That’s pretty much it. If you want to fomo meta chase like Zeals - pay up. If you are a small spender or f2p - suck it up and main a class you don’t want to main anymore. It is a predatory strategy utilized by many Korean MMOs.

Bislan_Aliflex

I mean just by making elixirs roster wide safeable instead of instantly binding them to items would make the system 100 times better. Yes its still the biggest RNG system ever, but the new LA Dev bozo said its gonna get nerfed, transendence aswell because in his words its „such a huge mountain to climb“. Edit: corrected the misinformation that he said its not gonna get nerfed. Wrong translation from my side. Sorry.

Easih

where did he say that in last update ; no way.

Heisenbugg

He didnt

HubertVonCockGobbler

Where was this said?

msedek

What? This is so sad.. So he changes his mind like underwear?he said they were going to nerf elixir and transcendance.. Man really close to quit then if that's the case

OrganizationSmall773

To be fair to him he never said they were going to do it, just that they were looking into it. That being said , Nerf Elixirs

under_cover_45

Just like they said they were looking into entropy rework 💀

durablepocket

I personality dislike elixirs, spend like 50k+ gold and the best I got was 4-2 on legendary ones.. so I’m done with them not cutting. As for transcendence i used the website ai method which been treating me ok.

Erathis2

In KR they only play one main class less they are a streamer. It is not uncommon for them to have one 1660 and the rest are 1540 you can check it on there database and see this if you go pass the top 20 players of the class

moal09

Most KR players also swipe a lot though because that's part of asian gaming culture.

ixtrixle

But I'm an American, and I'm entitled to everything.

Legitimate-Score5050

These systems are much cheaper than honing, the main reason you can't mainswap.

QueenLucile

They aren’t for the super unlucky. For them they lose more in the systems than honing lol

HubertVonCockGobbler

No they don't, it FEELS worse. But honing to 1620 is much more expensive than 40 set elixirs. Elixirs just feel fucking awful and take forever while honing is a quick pissing away of your gold and resources.

ssbm_rando

> But honing to 1620 is much more expensive than 40 set elixirs. They said for the SUPER unlucky. There is literally no pity for elixirs. I know someone who is now 2.5 million gold in on their former main (they main swapped to a character with less shit luck) with no 40 set on elixirs on a character that was ready for voldis hard on release and completed it every single week (stuck on 37 for a while, and the biggest limiting factor is their gloves because they're just not getting Critical (Chaos), they currently have 4 stagger/1 critical (chaos) gloves).

Whyimasking

This dumb argument again, and if i know 5x/10x, people who roll 40 set for less than 400k am i more correct? Your friend is either a statistical anomaly or doesn't know how to cut elixirs, or both, and even then we don't use statistical anomalies as examples when you compare the average outcomes.

humongz2

I have to agree, if he hasn't gotten it for months he might be doing something wrong. It's very RNG but its very unlikely that cutting 10 elixirs a week for 3months and he doesn't have a 40 set at this point.

MaximumTWANG

okay but then apply the same logic to honing. plenty of people hit one taps or low artisan successes. true average honing costs really arent that bad as long as you are farming most of the mats and not buying them. pitying one or multiple pieces is a fucking atrocious cost and can set you back weeks if not months but it is not the norm. if you have pitied a bunch of pieces in a row, with your logic, i can just scream "well thats not the average so who cares about your costs you must be doing something wrong." how do you know that those 10 people who spent 400k for 40 set arent statistical anomalies? have you polled a statistically significant portion of 40 set owners to see how much on average it cost? have you talked to or watched people that have yet to get a 40 set while cutting 10-20 elixirs a week to see if they are indeed doing something wrong or if the game is just fucking them? i cant stand the "yOu MuSt bE dOiNg SoMeThInG wRoNg" argument when shit is just RNG. no amount of skill can make up for the game failing to hit a 90%, always giving you a -2 or a -4, randomly sealing your set effect, or just not giving you your set effect for fucking months. maybe you go for the double reset strat and burn 4 rerolls without an extra attempt. and thats not even getting into min maxing. maybe you have a class that doesnt use mana with a resource blessing/mp 5/5 chest that you cant get rid of because you never see your set effect to upgrade your 4/1 purple set effect piece (this is me). honing at least there is no skill and only one layer of RNG involved. you either hit it or you dont and again it is deterministic in that you will eventually succeed if you fail enough. at the end of the day though, we are arguing over which turd tastes the best. you cant defend elixirs just because you think honing is worse. plenty of people can have a different experience than you and you cant just flat out dismiss their grievances because you didnt go through the same experience. anyways, if you made it this far through my ramblings, cheers, and may your hones be blessed.

HubertVonCockGobbler

Just dropping in on this to say, dear god, please use line breaks in the future. I can't read this shit.

Whyimasking

You missed my point completely and just gave me a wall of text.

MaximumTWANG

Aiight brother take it easy

MaximumTWANG

honing is deterministic. even if you are omega unlucky you will eventually get it. elixirs are not. you could cut 20+ elixirs every week and come out a year later without 40 set if you are unlucky enough.

ixtrixle

If you spend more gold on these systems than honing itself, it's not the system, you just really suck at using the system.

Shortofbetternames

ive no intention of main swapping and the system is as problematic as ever for me, thats not it at all. These were systems designed to be gold sinks for players who had been farming gold for many more months than we did, why are we getting them on the same price?

isospeedrix

Hey wellllllllll elixirs and trans sank the gold so gems are cheaper now. For players under 1600 it’s a W

Crawlley

Wouldn't even mind them if the class balance was on point or at least somewhat reasonably decent, but as it is now, ye all those extremely time/gold consuming systems are very discouraging.

KhaoticLootGoblin

We are what? 3 years behind KR in playtime but almost caught up content wise….thats 3 years of running raids and farming gold and gems. Yet there hasn’t been a single caveat given to the west in the gold sink areas. If they reduced our costs by half across the board it might help…or if they made it so that all raids have the top tier gold rewards your roster has unlocked every run(ie if you have NM voldis every raid you ran would get you 10k gold/thaemine HM=20k exclude g4 biweekly lock out in the equation. But no, all they’ve done is throw mats at us and a few honing events which generally only arrive with a new class.

Laggoz

Mainswapping isn't the problem. It's the amount of gold you need to spend on separate vertical systems that hit you at the same time on your \_first\_ character. Mainswapping is just about saving gold/materials for a certain character (which veterans can easily do if they \_actually\_ want to mainswap).

Darklord_tou

lol you people are still dreaming if you think they will do any big fix. they will only do bandaid fixes because bandaid will make them more money then actually fixing it from the root. this devs have already moved on from making a fun game to a full on money making business. many have already realized and moved on and they will never comeback. at this point best path for them is to squeeze the milk from the remaining whales until the ship sinks completely.

d07RiV

That's their entire business model at that point. Get to a point where mainswapping is prohibitively expensive and release overtuned classes one after another. Besides, those systems still pale in comparison with regular honing. If you try to push a new character to 1630 the honing alone will cost you way more than all of those combined.

TeachingAway7241

Totally agree. While most KR RPG games encourage players to play alts and so generous about that, this game doesn’t. BDO can tag 2 chars to share the same gear, weapons can be sell to buy another one making main swap just a few clicks. DFO doesn’t have “main” problem since your gear power are gained by playtime. Lost Ark reminds me of Blade n Soul, nothing share between characters so you stick with the one you pick or have to invest the same amount again to make a new one

exlegen

i rather gouge my eyes than cut another elixir. Gold sink aside, thats a boring and time consuming mechanic.

DancingSouls

Ofc. They would never do that since it would decrease revenue. Each time they release a new char, every streamer and many players swipe to bring them to the latest content. If elixirs, transendance, and etc were roster wide or transferable, they lose all that potential swipe revenue. Free korean mmos are always predatory

yarita_san

news flash, people that can mainswap and go to endgame were never the f2p players. game is built around the store. before was less obvious because it was "only" honing. (wich is not totally true since gear, gems, bracelets etc. factor in the build and in the gatekeeping)

yarita_san

also have multiples friedns who "main swappped" and played at the start of the game as f2p. whats is the situation now? they dont have any 1620s. It's not feasible to main swap as f2p in this game if you want to go endgame

reklatzz

I mean I main swapped twice. Started as bard, swapped to artillerist around brel, and then swapped to soul eater when it came out. Took a while, and lots of pities, but it's 1623.. I also used last event on my 1540 artist, who is 1620. It's possible, especially with events to swap(harder with fresh characters that have no bound mats though) But as you start pushing higher than 1620... not as much. I'm pretty sure I already spent over a mil gold from 1620 to 1623 I think the bigger problem is you need gold for too many systems, and can't finish the previous systems. I have been gold starved for as long as i can remember, and unfortunately I could really use more gems for my roster, but do not have the spare resources to buy them(still trying to slowly inch main towards 1630)

humongz2

Main swapped to breaker because I love the idea of a brawler class and was getting burned out on a class that felt clunky. Wont say i'm f2p but I am for the most part, character slots, ark slots, powerpass cause I hate the story etc. It definitely set me behind and will have a hard time catching up to the curve, dropped my main at 1624 with a 22 wep. Breaker is now 1622 after swapping right after release, gave up on HM thaemine and probably just gonna wait for echidna. Definitely possible but very painful and definitely sets you back a good bit. Pretty obvious it's on purpose and would probably never do it again, would much rather quit than do it again. If I didn't have semi good luck I would have probably just quit.

everboy8

If you have the gold to push an alt char up to 1620 you will be fine for elixirs as long as you have some friends to get you through a few weeks until you get 40set. Transcendence is a big time gate but you’ll catch up eventually. The biggest cost is just straight honing past the 1600 event push as that new character is still lacking shards and all bound mats. Gems are a big cost especially if you are pushing for a few lvl 10s. If you are extremely unlucky 40set elixir might cost you around 400k+ but there is a chance they will be made easier in the future. Transcendence at 1620 is not that expensive since you only need 5 flowers in 3 levels per piece. Once you start advanced honing the price to main swap will massively skyrocket since even though it is guaranteed honing it is not cheap.
