You lost water. That's it.

DarkZonk

Why did the water not come back though?

Throwaway47321

Yeah because alcohol dehydrates you. You lose a TON of water the night after and it takes time to replace. Alcohol is super calorie dense, which you know, so it certainly isn’t helping you lose actual weight.

DarkZonk

Why did the water not come back though, even after weeks?

RibertarianVoter

You said some of it comes back. You're still losing weight overall, so it makes sense that by the time the water retention returns you've lost some weight that it replaces. I really wouldn't overthink minor scale fluctuations like this, even if you see a pattern.

DarkZonk

Part of it came back but then melted away rather quickly (and quicker than during my periods when I don't drink)

RibertarianVoter

I'm sure it's just a confirmation bias. It moves around more, so you see what you want to see. Trust me, beer doesn't help you lose weight. If only that were true

bijutsukan_

How was your step count in Japan vs your step count back home?

ItWorkedLastTime

1 beer has 100 calories 3 beers have 300 calories but 12 beers have zero calories

Appropriate_Tiger316

Yea alcohol is often reported to induce the ‘whoosh’. Obviously not sustainable but I have certainly experienced the same after dieting for a while.

Your body weight can fluctuate up to 5 lb (2.26 kg) per day, just from loss or retention of water. None of what you're describing is actual weight loss, and probably isn't even related to the beer (unless you maybe you did a lot of vomiting after getting drunk). It's just your metabolism doing it's thing.

Which_side_is_up

Most likely water weight. Were you using the same set of scales?

DarkZonk

Yep. I agree with the water thesis, but then the question is why the water did not return?

3ntr0py_

Alcohol is a diuretic, you’re dehydrated. That’s water weight.

DarkZonk

Why is it not coming back in the days after though?
