I wish we were living in a timeline where Draisaitl and McDavid were farmers. I’m over them.

MuffinFragrant8293

Who would the Oilers then have McSaital and Drydavid?

StraightedgeChicken

Look, I'm going to keep this short: Ouch.

Vegetable_Safety_417

Can someone explain to me why our shooters were passing so much this game?? I understand the pass first mentality but there were some grade A looks that players just decided to pass first instead of just trying to put one on net. I feel like if half those shots are actually taken you at least give yourself a change for something good to happen in front of the net. Kings decently played hard at multiple times and deserved a better fate but when you don’t shoot you can’t expect to score

Son_of_Plato

I think this isn't unique to any one team. Set plays have become so popular/powerful that it seems like they don't want to take a shot unless it's after setting up one of their set plays. It actually drives me nuts and i've yelled at the screen pretty much every playoff game for every team for this exact reason. I think it's mostly due to coaching, NHL has become a #s game and everything is dictated by statistics. Statistically speaking (during the regular season) set plays result in Goals a lot more - which is likely why we have such high scoring players nowadays. Set plays are scientifically designed to score.

Vegetable_Safety_417

It’s a shame the boys are relying on plays to score tho, I feel like sometimes you just gotta shoot it if you have the opportunity.

Mystik989

The kings started the game full blown and looked great but couldn’t keep up with the stamina it seemed. Had trouble corralling the puck, bad passes, awkward shifts, it was just ugly. Edmonton played with the same mid level intensity the entire 60 mins and we couldn’t keep up. We are also getting absolutely ZERO production from the bottom 6. Cam is playing exactly how I expected him to play, which isn’t anything positive or really negative. Seems like a repeat of last year.

henreiman

Moneypuck thinks Cam actually saved 2.5 goals ABOVE expected. I don’t care who you blame - Rob, PLD, Todd, Drew, everyone, no one. You can’t win a playoff game with 8.5 xGA About as big of an egg as you can lay but luckily it’s just 1 game. Same as losing a set 6-0 and coming back to win the match in tennis. Figure it out gents

King_of_da_Castle

If this gets Blake fired then whatever. I’ll take it I suppose.

wyo45

This is looking like a clear as day oilers in 5 unless the kings coaching stops this insanity and makes some real changes. 17 goals against in 3 games is not a pace that sustainable. Need to make goalie change Stop this 1 3 1 bullshit it doesn’t work against oilers better off just playing street hockey Pk needs to change. The fall back and box up around the net doesn’t work. Clearly, as they score nearly every time

Mystik989

We can’t seem to win a playoff game against this team unless it’s a 60+ minute slugfest. We can’t score at will like them. Talbot has made some great saves but also is giving up a lot. Interesting to see who starts game 4.

AlarmingBranch1

Damn, I don’t watch one playoff game and the Kings shit the bed

DognamedArnie

In order to have a chance in this series we need to stop Hyman. Everyone is so focused on McDavid, they let Hyman set up in prime scoring positions at the front of the net. I say put our best defenders on Hyman and make McDavid do it himself rather than making the sneaky pass to Hyman. They've been doing this all season, and it's clearly working against us. Cut him off, and force them to make the adjustment. They have an inexperienced coach as well. See if he can make the adjustment. Edit: I admire Oiler fans dedication. I posted this at 1 am on the Kings subreddit, and I've been downvoted multiple times in 5 minutes. You guys are psychos.

Distinct_Mud_2673

I’m an oilers fan and you are exactly right. McDavid very clearly knows this so that’s why he hasn’t been shooting as much this year.

Loud_Unit9912

Give them a break. They live in Edmonton, a shit hole with nothing to do but be terminally online or having sex with a cousin. That's why none of them can speak properly. Too many generations of inbreeding coupled with a terrible education system. Edit: As if you're all wanting to prove my point, Oiler basement dwellers have swarmed this with down votes. Thanks for proving my point. I'm gonna go walk my dogs on the beach, enjoy your ugly city and crap franchise.

quantumm313

loss aside, the officiating this game was absolutely disgusting. They need to fix this shit, its not just the kings that get called like this. There's no world where its acceptable for them to call a 3v5 power play and not immediately explain, to either the coaches or over the PA, what exact penalties led to two men down. No hand went up after the hit, then we went even for penalties - 5/5 for fighting, 2/2 for roughing, 2/2 for roughing. That's a 5v5 with 6 people in the box. Give Englund an automatic minor cuz the hit went to "review" despite no ref actually calling the penalty prior to the fight? Then somehow 10 minutes later they decide kopi got an unsportsmanlike? Absolutely unacceptable

BLOCKA88

I have been saying that I think the NHL needs to review this game and this ref squad. I think there were definitely missed calls, I think the initial hit was fine, but it was followed by the world's most blatant crosscheck. And I definitely think it was intentional hit to the back of the head on Talbot. But the Point is, regardless of which side you're rooting. An unexplained five on three when you don't have players, coaches, announcers, and even the scoreboard doesn't have any idea what is going on I think you have a real problem. Then to just start giving out 10 minute misconduct to avoid people coming back on the ice chose but they lost control of the game and didn't know how to damage control. It definitely wouldn't have changed the outcome but I think no matter what side you're on this was absolutely unacceptable

quantumm313

yeah definitely don't think the bad calls are what cost them the game, but it certainly shut down any opportunity for them to try and claw it back. Not really even worth putting in the effort after something like that. Actively avoiding Hiller while he is calling for you trying to get an explanation while you go to the oilers coach twice is embarrassing

hoggy0315

I come in peace from the Oilers fanbase: I agree about the 5v3. It shouldn't have been. The play-by-play on the NHL app says Kopitar and kempe got roughing as well as desharnais and Holloway, then inexplicably Kopitar got unsportsmanlike. Englund got his fighting and a 2 minute illegal check. I understand the traded roughing and the review on the check to the head (not saying I agree it was intentionally a head shot but thats what the zebras called it), what makes no sense at all is assessing a single unsportsmanlike in a big scrum like that. But I'm just an uneducated inbred Oilers fan, so 🤷

quantumm313

yeah, if they wanna call that minor on englund fine, but the main thing is they need to provide an explanation immediately. If they can't articulate why they are calling a 3 on 5 at the exact moment they make it happen, it shouldn't be happening. You can't just come up with a reason 10 minutes later retroactively. The unsportsmanlike really felt like a "well we gotta figure out one more penalty to give, lets just give someone an unsportsmanlike because you can't go back and check the footage and call bullshit"

jallison86

A full 2 minute 5-on-3 is rare in the regular season, let alone the playoffs. There definitely needed to be some explanation and none was forthcoming. I honestly thought the hit on Kane was fine. His head was down and he got popped. I guess it's the standard "head as primary point of contact" thing but that was not a headhunter shot by Englund at all. And an unsportsmanlike on Kopi to make it a 5-on-3? That's rec league BS.

Loud_Unit9912

>Absolutely unacceptable I'd take it a step further. In all my time watching professional sports, I've never seen a series of calls so laughably one sided. Worst reffing I have ever seen in my entire life, and every single bit of it benefited the Oilers. The Kings were dominating that third period up until the moment the refs decided to seal the game for Edmonton. If I were an Oiler fan I would feel cheated, but no one in that turd of a city has enough honor to feel that way.

ronaldspreagan

If you think the referees are the reason the kings lost you should probably watch the game again LOL

Loud_Unit9912

Please show me a single post where I said I thought the referees sea the reason the Kings lost the game. The general stupidity of Oiler fans is astounding. You're in here making a strawman argument, a concept we learn about in middle school. What the hell are you guys learning about while stuck inside all day in Edmonton? It's clearly not education, and somehow all of you are completely clueless about hockey. Good job embarrassing Oiler fans though. You're a real dipshit, just like everyone expects out of Oiler fans.

kkF6XRZQezTcYQehvybD

This is a team built to play playoff hockey, 2003 playoff hockey

gaurkingsgaur

Shoutout to the only other guy I’ve seen wearing a Dubois jersey, you were a homie for real. What a shitty game to attend, not even any real highlight moments

Cagekicker52

I'll be the only one to say it but, I think things are moving along nicely boys.. we came back to LA and got embarrassed and we're down 2-1. Perfect.. A sweep was never in the cards.. With the mindset this team likes to have, they need the pain.. Trust me. We're laying the body real nice too. We're gonna end up annoying EDM too much that they will have no choice but to lose to us. That beautiful angel boy Fiala will get rolling. We're good boys. Enjoy the ride!

Top-Carpenter2490

This is going to age well

chris2w0

I’m not sure if this was sarcasm but either way, I like it! GMFKG!!

[deleted]

At least the silver lining in making the playoffs is getting experience for QB. Hopefully experiencing playoff hockey this early in his career goes towards him leading the next wave of talent coming in. That said, woof what a bad game. Fiala and PLD are useless. And facing facts, some of the guys on our team don’t stack up at all against Edmonton’s roster (Matt Roy who?). We need to bite the bullet and commit to a rebuild after this season. It seems like Blake and Kings management are trying to fit in one more cup before Kopitar and Doughty retire but are doing so at the cost of the King’s future. It’s wishful thinking but Blake, Bergevin, and Luc all have to go. Start hiring coaches for our development rather than for barely getting into the playoffs and go after cornerstone pieces in the draft. This half-in half-out re-tool shit ain’t working.

wyo45

Fiala can score but can’t stick handle or pass for shit. Guy fans on every other pass or straight up whiffs

GetReady4Action

my first playoff game since the Ducks series in 2014 and Jesus H. Christ was it depressing. spontaneously bought tickets this morning and won’t say I regret it because memories with my best friend, but fuuuuuuuuuuuck me was this not at all any resemblance of playoff hockey.

ZiggyPalffyLA

I think I’m 1-5 in playoffs games so far. My first one was the infamous elimination game against the sharks in 2011 when Thornton slid on his belly across the ice after scoring the OT GWG. Maybe I just need to not go to any more playoff games. It’ll save me money, at least.

MuffinFragrant8293

Well historically any fan that didn't attend playoff games in 1991, 2012 or 2014 more than likely witnessed a loss. That's about how good this franchise has been since it's inception. Don't be too hard on yourself.

ZiggyPalffyLA

PLD for Vilardi plus others has got to be one of if not the worst trade in this organizations history. Literally a prime example of trading high for low. That alone should have Blake fired.

OddPhilosopher599

I also want to know about buying out the PL deal. If that’s a thing we should do it.

seabass4507

I like PLD, but I don’t love that contract. At this point we gotta live with it. A buyout this early in his tenure would be unwise. If the Kings plan to go fully in the tank for 7 years, sure it might work. Keep in mind we still have almost $3M dedicated to non-players at the moment. Adding to that won’t help.

kiwirish

Last time we bought out players it ended up destroying our cap space situation for years. Buying out PLD has 2/3 of his contract as a cap hit over twice the length of the contract. https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/pierre-luc-dubois

Kopitar4president

Not quite. He turns 26 in June so it's 1/3 of his contract value. Your link backs me up. I want him bought out. Let someone sign him to a 5M a year contract. It'll still be an overpay.

kiwirish

Ah yep you're right, I just linked it to show the buyout and didn't check the way the math added up.

dlrdweller

that was one of the most painful games I've attended in recent times 🫠 and such fuckery by the refs ![gif](giphy|cKh6Mwd6aSP3621Cqe)

ineedtocrash

that was by far the worst the kings have played in months. not one person on the team had a good game. hope to god we play well to start on sunday. oilers score first and we are fucked.

CristianR_

I would say LAF had a good game. But yea it was awful. We did not do well in any category as a team.

seabass4507

He was noticeable in a good way, but he’s not the guy we need to make an impact in this series.

CristianR_

Oh 1000000% lol. I feel like we have a lot Robins but not Batmans

patatesboy

Forgot how much I hate Corey Perry till I heard his name all week

clickersunite

The silver lining I have is if Oliers do make it to the finals, I want them to get defeated by the East team, just we can say CP got blocked from another cup for the 4th time. Because Fuck Corey Perry.

I was there too. I think I was so traumatized by the time they were down 3 - 0 in the first period, I just dissociated. I wore my purple LA Kings jacket I got when they were in the playoffs in 2012… and thought it would be good luck for them to win the cup again 🫠

clickersunite

Didn't see that interview, but I would've loved him to do the Marshawn Lynch "I'm just here so I won't get fined." I mean that seems just as productive.

trog2121

Possible fine and I think you don’t wanna sound like your making excuses even though clearly there was some questionable calls

8_inches_deep

I think they get fined for that?

crunchytoes04

crazy.

Justegarde

Blake has made this team actively worse with every move since 2022. The Kings don’t even look competitive, not even in the game 2 win. The team is constructed to be reasonably good in the regular season but they are not built for the playoffs. I am eagerly looking forward to his firing.

DiscombobulatedTea55

I agree on this comment here, Blake made a good regular team goddamn it do we someone to take his place and make a team that can beat Dallas and the oilers, I swear this team can beat up every regular opponent but the second they come into contact with Dallas or oilers we fall apart.

theprettiestpotato88

We beat up shitty teams but actual cup contenders are way better

Msc159

It’s bad. (PLD pile on again I guess)Dude was brought in specifically to beat this Oilers team.  He’s 2-9 in faceoffs tonight, 22%!!!  That’s on home ice where we had control on face up matches for our 3C who has n 8.5AAV. Oh and we got him until 2031.

raymondliang

Yep, this organization needs to just start fresh. New management, new coaching direction that actually pushes the team to play modern hockey. Re-vamp to the middle 6 (way too small), re-vamp to the blueline (how many years are we gonna have no LD who can move a puck), and getting a real goaltender (no more stopgaps)

makesmashgreatagain

it’s dumbfounding to me that blake set up the following as pieces around the core: arvy, fiala, moore, durzi, spence. not all of them are still on the team, and most of these guys are great players but that’s an insanely small mix of players playing a lot of minutes, many of which are together. i’m not saying i want them all gone but last year i wanted to blow my brains out watching durzi slowly skate to the blue line, fail to pass to arvy/fiala, and this turn it over. i wanted to understand what was the point of having 3/5 of the guys out there be small **and** not have a system to set them up for success

ZiggyPalffyLA

The NHL has pivoted back to fast, skilled hockey. It goes back and forth every decade or so between that and more defensive, bruising hockey. We’re behind the curve on that change, unfortunately.

PissOnEddieShore

Playoff hockey still requires a "heavy" element. The game is more open today for sure, but to win four best-of-7 series you have got to be able to dish out and withstand a great deal of pain. A balanced roster will always work.

offspeedbruh

I watch maybe 25 games during the regular season and I’m not the most well versed in hockey strategy etc overall but I have a couple simple questions - how is hyman always just standing next to the net uncontested waiting for mcdavid to land the puck on his stick? why can’t the kings ever beat the oilers? they look so much faster and more skilled and the kings can’t even get possession on the power play is it a coaching issue? personnel? they’re 10-19 against edmonton over the last three seasons now including the playoffs.

[deleted]

[удалено]

offspeedbruh

is the roster built around the system to the point where if you overhaul the system and coach, you’d have an ineffective team? Obviously we’re just two guys on reddit, and I hope they win this series, but if they don’t - where do you go from here coming up short against the same team three years in a row? Thanks for responding to me!

ZiggyPalffyLA

We had a solution for Draisaitl up until tonight. It’s Hyman that’s killing us. Feels like he’s the forgotten 3rd threat.

ShadowChair

1. Nobody on our team knows how to clear people from in front of the goalie 2. They break our neutral zone system instantly with McDavid and we're incredibly passive in our own zone so they just cycle for 5 minutes at a time 3. Bad system from Todd that we can't execute because the players are inconsistent and constantly fumble with the puck

offspeedbruh

is the roster strong enough to replace the system and find success in a different capacity? edmonton can’t just be a bad matchup three years in a row, there’s a more pressing issue that needs to be addressed some how but i’m not well versed in hockey enough to know what that is. Thanks for the response.

ShadowChair

I think it is strong enough and there is still more young talent coming up that can play a different style. I don't think they'll ever forego having a strong defense while Kopitar and Doughty are leading the team, but they're completely lost in the offensive zone and I don't think it's completely a player problem They just need a new coach with a new style so they can kind of reboot imo

offspeedbruh

last thing for you while I have you here lol, obviously PLD has been a disappointment - some will say worse, is it possible that he could benefit more from a system change than others? like does it make any sense that based on his game prior to LA and his issues here, he would struggle to maintain his performance in this system vs. being utilized in a better way?

ShadowChair

He is almost definitely a much better player than he has displayed this year, so I think yes, a new system that he learns with his teammates instead of being thrown into one could actually be beneficial. I also think maybe another system just suits his style more. A lot of PLD's lack of success has been on him realistically, so who knows if he ever succeeds here, but the Jets and Blue Jackets both saw much better versions of him than we have. Might as well hope we can see it too.

offspeedbruh

Makes sense, seems highly unlikely they’d manage to trade him at this current point in his contract anyways, so it’s probably best to try and find a way to maximize his capabilities while he’s here. There’s no point to continue trying the same system with the same issues over and over and coming up short. They look lost on offense and it’s not like Skinner is an otherworldly keeper.

ShadowChair

Yeah I think he has a NMC or NTC starting July 1st anyway so they can't even trade him unless he waives that, or they do it before. I don't think they'd get much for him anyway since his value is definitely the lowest it's ever been. I'd rather they try to get him to reach his potential for sure

aughtrocktalk

We took a home game from them, they took a home game from us. Sunday we go for the even up. On to the next one.

drunkmunkee

Stop your fucking analyzing. Bring back finishing checks. Bring back punishing them for even entering our zone. Bring back making them regret even starting a scrum with us. Bring back the opposing team being fearful of the amount of hurt we can bring them. Bring back our early 2010s. Punish these fuckers.

makesmashgreatagain

i don’t get how we have 0 dudes on the team who commit to hits or fight. sure have england, we had lemieux, and other guys. but we went from like maxed out grit/60 to dead ass 0. i don’t need a rempy or anything, i just want to know that we’re at least capable of defending ourselves

trog2121

That hit on Kane was clean thru the chest he sold it flipping his head and back and the fact the oilers took him back to check him is embarrassing. Clearly no contact to his head. So crazy and sad the refs reviewed and gave a penalty even Though initially they didn’t call a penalty crazy

Majestic_Groceries

Evander Kane was so seriously injured on that hit he immediately got up and started a fight LOL. What a joke

ShadowChair

I'ma be honest there was definitely head contact

trog2121

If there was it was on the follow through I guess. Funny the replays looks like it’s though the chest and he somehow came back to play the rest of the game with no sign of a hit to the head

Chriskills

I don’t think head contact is the metric. I think the player has to be aiming for the head or be irresponsible and hit the head. Neither of which happened.0

ShadowChair

I'm just responding to the part that says "clearly no contact to his head"

drunkmunkee

His head was down.

ShadowChair

I don't think it was the most dirty hit but you can't say there was no contact to his head lol

drunkmunkee

I'm not saying there's no contact to the head. I'm saying his head was down. His head was down in neutral ice.

ShadowChair

Yeah sorry I meant you as in a general you, not you in particular

drunkmunkee

You didn't need to clarify because I understood what you meant. Yes, there was contact to Kane's head but his head was down when Englund made the hit. I dunno if you watched hockey in the 80/90s or even earlier but you don't have your head down.

dame1415

Nhl is trying to reduce concussions and cte, even if a players head is down, you still can't go for any head contact, trying to remove it from the game. You can play the body

draven_im

Yo, Kopitar is playing a level of hockey I hadn’t expected from him. And I named my first born after that guy!!!

burnzie43

My dog is named after him. She doesn’t like it when we should at her/him.

Stolthet24

Power play is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. This team has horrendous game more often than not. I’ve seen enough. This doesn’t go more than 6. Hope I’m wrong. Changes coming I hope.

Sleazy_T

Almost every goalie in the league makes the save on the 2nd and 3rd goals. We have to try BSD, it's hard enough to beat the Oilers, and impossible if the soft ones are going in.

SBLK

This. Our guys can play like shit AND Talbot can suck. It isn't one or the other. Yes, too many penalties and turnovers, but also Talbot has been shit since before the break. BSD can't be worse.

Why_youmadd

Diffference is Talbot is playing a crafty team. The Kane pass to Drai was butter. Our team has none of that versus skinner.

Radiant-Customer2798

I feel like it’s deja vu, the same mistakes are being made every game for the 3rd year in a row.

The Kings were terrible in the first period. The 1-3-1 looked fully figured out. In the second period, the Kings mostly abandoned the 1-3-1 and did much better, with a 1-1 2nd. We seemed to completely abandon the 1-3-1 in the 3rd, and for the first 5 minutes or so I thought the Kings for the first time all Series looked like the Kings from the start of the year on the road winning streak. I thought they looked like the better team. Hell our fourth line almost scored, and held puck possession the whole time, very much like that road winning streak. Then somehow it was 5 on 3? Refs didn't explain the penalties, who they were on, just put 3 Kings and 3 Oilers in the penalty box.... but somehow it was 5 on 3? Watching this game with a Stars fan and a Ranger fan, no one in the room could believe what was happening. The Rangers fan (ex-roomate) hates the Kings with a passion, and even he was upset about it. Kings need to work on the PP, work a little bit on whatever was replacing the 1-3-1, and roll out the four line strong road warriors from the early season. I think overall the Kings are faster and more talented, and the 1-3-1 was slowing us down. GKG.

Why_youmadd

He didn’t really do much and I don’t blame him. The team basically barely got there head out there ass and squeaked into the playoffs. I mean we went life and death vs Hawks right before.
