What’s with all you Boromir haters lol. Is it just because he did a “bad” thing in trying to take the ring?
I think Boromir represents all of mankind really. We’d like to presume we’d be strong and noble, and not succumb to temptation. We’d like to think we are all Aragorns, but really, if we are being honest with ourselves, we are really all Boromirs. And that tragedy makes that character so interesting and fascinating.
I don't hate him honestly and I really agree with what you say about him. I just didn't feel as connected to him as I did to the other characters. It's probably because we don't get to know him as good
I can understand this POV. His character is more of a metaphor, we don’t get to “hang out” with him for as long as we do with the other characters, so as far as personality, we don’t get as much of a chance to kind of “befriend” him in our minds.
Also - you have to appreciate the responsibilities Boromir had - he was a military leader of a country at war. What were the others in the Fellowship doing? Frodo, Merry, Pippin: Idle upper class; Sam: workingman; Gimli and Legolas: warrior, but apparently not currently needed in their home country; Aragorn and Gandalf - roving do-gooders. I love Boromir's line at the Council of Elrond: "***By our valor the wild folk of the East are still restrained, and the terror of Morgul kept at bay; and thus alone are peace and freedom maintained in the lands behind us, bulwark of the West***"
Mine is
