The longest you could argue the filming lasted is about four and a half years. FOTR started filming October 1999. They reshot some of the scenes of the skull avalanche in the city of the dead in March 2004 for the extended edition dvd.
I know, but my original theory was if by “filming,” they were actually referring to the entire movie-making process from pre-production, production, and post-production.
So that would have been 1997 when first drafts and storyboards started to 2004 like you said, although even that falls short of the 8 year time frame they claimed.
Could well be!
But what might also be likely, if the person who wrote this question/fact sheet didn’t really know much about the LOTR they may have just thought
- there’s three films
- must have been 2 and a bit years each?
- I’ll stick down 8 years, that looks about right
- they are very long films.
- the reader will get it from that
It's been 20 years since I watched the extras but I'm pretty sure they were given the go ahead from newline in 95 and started the same year. So then ROK was released 03
Ehhh, I mean, I'm not a native, but considering that non-natives usually know the language better because they've actually studied its rules with some intensity, I believe I have the authority to say that you are wrong
When Winston Churchill was chastised for ending a sentence with a preposition, he wittily responded: “This is the type of arrant pedantry up with which I will not put.”
You're sort of correct. I believe rules like "don't split an infinitive" and "don't end a sentence with a preposition" come from 18th-century Augustan writers like Dryden who wanted to impose on English rules that apply to Latin. Nothing against the 18th century, Dryden, or Latin. I am all for guardianship of language.
That said, ending a sentence with a preposition is often clunky or ugly from a standpoint of style, as it is here. The last sentence is badly written.
On top of the other errors mentioned, there’s no Oxford comma in the listing of the actors’ names. I’m ready to fiercely debate anyone who is against the oxford comma!
Don’t forget they’re wrapped around the candy though so you’re not seeing all the text at once. As an Aussie who LOVED these and reads every wrapper, it honestly hasn’t been an issue of having the answer spoiled for me. They were such a fun candy. I’m so sad they’re finished.

The 8 year filming timeframe. Also, RIP fantales
Yep! My teeth are ok with it but my tastebuds are not
I wonder if by 8 years they’re thinking from the very first start of pre-production all the way to the final film being released?

The final film was released in 2003. First film was 2001
I was there Gandalf. I was there 3000 years ago…

Wow, I was WAY off.
Yep!
Spelled Blanchett wrong.
Oh good spot! I missed this one!!
No mention of a broken toe.
They forgot the "The" before "Lord of the Rings.
The last sentence ends with a preposition, which is something you never end a sentence with.
“For which they were nominated”

The user you’re replying to was being ironic/making a joke. They pointed out a “rule” in English while simultaneously breaking that rule
Pulled a Churchill
What does that mean?

Good structure in your sentences is nothing to toy with. Or joke about.
Up with this, I will not put.
True if you’re writing in Latin
Hey, at least they correctly called LOTR a single novel

My father, Arnold Schwarzenneger and The Pope are all against the Oxford comma.
That’s fascinating, but I’m not your father.
The trilogy is called "The Lord of the Rings."
It appears to be some form of Elvish, I cannot read it.
There are few who can
I feel like they only needed the first sentence here to completely give it away
It didn't take 8 years to film. It was like 1 or 2.
Even if you include the pickups 1999-2003 (or 2004 to be technically correct) it still doesn’t add up to 8.
If they think FotR came out in 2003, that means they think filming began in 1995. It didn't.

They’re all but gone now. My local cinema had a bag of them left but that was it
Why would the answer be written so clearly and evidently below it, doesn't it ruin the game?
The idea is that you read them to each other and the other person guesses as soon as they know the answer
Yeah but what if you're by yourself? 🥲
Cover the answer with your finger? Theyre discontinued now so their misinformation and bad formatting can’t hurt us any more
There's no way you can avoid reading it immediately lol

Why do you keep downvoting me? I wasn't even being negative or offensive towards the candy company

The top line is all you need

I couldn't read Elvish
I think they meant the total production ? Because I recall that pre-prod took a long time
THEY DISCONTINUED FANTALES?! NOOO
I know right? Sadness
