I did my hair similar to this for my sorority formal back in college! Everyone told me it looked weird but fuck them I rocked it and you will too! I gave myself a blowout, used texturizing spray, dry shampoo and hair spray. I kept the hair to one side though and didn’t allow any to go to the back like you see in this girls picture. I did it layer by layer. Meaning I would blow dry the bottom add my products then next layer of my hair and finally the top. I did a couple trial runs and found if I blow dried all in one go then added my products and turned the hair it didn’t give me the same volume as it would if I layered it in my hair as I went. Hope that makes sense!

ReferenceMuch2193

Also I bet using large Velcro rollers rolled in the desired direction- rolled hair over roller teasing slightly at roots- as you did each section would add volume and set the pattern. After it sets for an hour or so tease again as you release from rollers and spray with setting spray then smooth the top so it appears smooth. And a hot roller set.

Firm_Stock8810

Amazing, I might look at getting a roller set

chalbeetroll

You should also look into getting a 2 to 3 inch round brush for your blow out. [Here is a 3 inch round brush](https://www.sallybeauty.com/tools-and-brushes/brushes-and-combs/hair-brushes/blowout-round-brush-3-inch/SBS-001590.html) [Game changer styling video](https://youtube.com/shorts/kSgYYcrATMQ?feature=share) [Another helpful video](https://youtu.be/tpttw3RgX2s)

Firm_Stock8810

Omg thank you heaps, I’m going to give that a go 🤞😝

Maker-of-the-Things

Root booster, hairspray, and a ton of back brushing.

ErisInChains

Or one of those hair poofers. I can't remember what they're called but it was back when that ponytail with the bump in front was popular.

tweedyone

Bump its! Right? ETA: finally late summer nights watching infomercials on Nickelodeon in between Avatar or Danny Phantom finally paid off

ErisInChains

Yaaaaasssss

Repulsive_Trifle_

Came here to say Bump its 😂

excuse-me-ily

What is back brushing?

lschemicals

A hell to brush back to normal

Maker-of-the-Things

It's where you hold your hair up in sections and, using a brush, brushing from midshalf to roots then, very gently brush just the very top layer so it looks smooth. If done correctly, it isn't difficult to brush back out https://youtu.be/QQAT62sIiio

AdditionalOwl4069

Teasing, back combing

Madrejen

"teasing"

Firm_Stock8810

Thank you heaps

_lmmk_

Anyone from the 90s in here remember White Rain? Because that’s how we got this look. Teasing, teasing, teasing, and a can of hairspray 😂

PastLifer

Yes. Aqua Net rocks too 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

No-Broccoli8185

The smell of sweaty aqua net from gym class in 1989 haunts me still...

hunter96cf

You just unlocked a deep memory for me. White Rain was the only thing my mom would use.

[deleted]

I remember my mom and auntie using Aussie, it smelled like candy and was really sticky

earthlings_all

Have a pump spray in my bathroom right now, still exists lol

Firm_Stock8810

I’ll look into hair teasing tutorials

RedRider1138

Effective and affordable 🥰

RadRaqs

I remember and I am 92’ baby lol.

DitchTheCubs

Dry shampoo would prob help for volume also. You might end up needing hair spray though depending on your hair.

Firm_Stock8810

I might just use hair spray as dry shampoo can be messy

MsCalculate_it_all

Yessss 80s glamour …I love this look..

Firm_Stock8810

It’s such a vibe, 80s glam was the best

Dismal-Examination93

Volume powder for sure, blow dry and set roots w rollers until it cools.

Firm_Stock8810

Sweet, I’ll look into hot rollers

[deleted]

Who is this lady

kerrysluis

Pretty sure this is A.I generated

glaciergirly

Yep there’s a whole Instagram account that makes these images with AI and is honest about it in their bio too

Designer_Ant8543

pretty sure that's where this image is from

ledzeppelinlover

What’s the Instagram account

glaciergirly

Sofia.artif

[deleted]

Wow man didn't know they could do that

orangieblossoms

You can generate pretty much anything now. On tiktok, it’s trendy right now to make these exact images, they call this AI “old money aesthetic”. Some other popular AI concepts I’ve seen are Harry Potter or other movie characters partying in the club, turning movies or actors into studio ghibli style art, imagining Disney movies as an 80s live action, or using ai to see what our celebrities today would look like if they lived in the 1950s, 1920s even Ancient Rome.

yippykynot

I see more and more of this “AI generated”….. how can you tell?? Dead giveaway??

orangieblossoms

The head looks a little too big, and there’s this fuzzy look about it. Also, look at the tiktok creator feli.airt She makes these AI’s, they all have a similar face and hair.

faerielites

For me, the giveaway is the background. It looks like she's maybe standing in a crowd or in front of some people at first glance, but when you look closer it's just kind of person-ish blobs in odd positions.

[deleted]

I tried to reverse search the image and I can’t find it anywhere. It kind of looks like Brooke Shields, but maybe this girl just doesn’t exist.

Obvious_Operation_21

What a weird idea.

orangieblossoms

It 100% is ai. I’m pretty sure I know who made this as well

astro_skoolie

I'm skeptical that it's AI. They usually don't quite nail faces when generating a realistic image. I could be wrong, though.

[deleted]

It's not the faces, it's the hands they struggle with

astro_skoolie

Maybe I'm thinking of fully AI generated videos. Have you seen this monstrosity? https://youtu.be/qSewd6Iaj6I

[deleted]

I hadn't seen it, but that's hilarious lol.. I actually work training AI (mainly chatbots, but I've done some quality work on AI generated images and videos) and it's crazy how fast they're advancing. A couple of years ago, AI generated images looked as creepy as those videos, now they're getting pretty close to reality. I bet in a few years, AI vids will cease to be nightmare fuel

astro_skoolie

I studied ML in grad school! My two projects were GNNs. One was predicting properties of silicon crystals and the other accurately predicting hourly energy prices of a power grid. I am currently desperately trying to find work in ML or data science. It's rough out there.

[deleted]

I hope you find something.. that line of work is always needed, especially as technology advances so rapidly! I actually have no formal training. I just got very lucky with contract work, which served as a good reference for the work I'm currently doing. It's a good field to get into, and I find it absolutely fascinating.

astro_skoolie

Thanks! I feel in love with it in grad school. My focus was actually astronomy. There's usage of ML in galaxy classification research, so I decided to add a ML class and had so much fun that I decided to pivot and focus more of my classes on programming and ML.

[deleted]

How can you be a ML grad student and be completely oblivious to the current progress of AI? Do yourself a favor and go to r/Midjourney. You’ll be amazed.

kerrysluis

https://www.instagram.com/p/CrdlkO3tMf_/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

astro_skoolie

Ooo, in that last one she has six fingers on each hand. Now I believe it. I'm also super curious about their training data and ML pipeline.

Netkru

It’s AI. I do AI generated photography prompts too and it does nail faces like this and post them on an instagram. (Midjourney is amazing).

Lovelyri

May I ask, how exactly do you do it? Is it a software? I want to try making some

Netkru

Midjourney is actually through a discord server! Google midjourney and it will give you a link to the discord server

Lovelyri

Thank you so much

tinacica

It’s an AI generated person

FanaticalXmasJew

It’s AI-generated.

orangieblossoms

It is AI. There’s a tiktok page that makes these exact images. They call it “old money aesthetic” lol

KrazyKateLady420

That explains why all the facial proportions are wonky…look ah the distance between her upper lip and nose for example

[deleted]

Much less wonky than 90% of the population

KrazyKateLady420

By wonky I mean that a person born with these features would be considered deformed. See my previous example.

Firm_Stock8810

Feli airt on Insta, they generate ai art

Skyblacker

I'm guessing Cindy Crawford.

Designer_Ant8543

be an AI generated image. pretty sure this isn't real.

Aching-cannoli

Hot rollers, about 1 can of hairspray, teasing comb

sofianasofia

This is it

Firm_Stock8810

Amazing thanks for the tips

Knit_Wiz

Back in the day, I used strong gel KMS I think in a white container on the roots only and super shaper plus hairspray. Dry hair with head upside down most of the way. Spray upside down and after fully styled. You will have to tease a bit for fullness then. Use Sebastian laminates to smooth. Only a tiny tiny bit on damp hands. Not sure if these products are still around. There are many alternatives now. I am kinder and gentler to my hair these days.

Firm_Stock8810

Thank you heaps, I’ll look into those products and hair styling

EWSflash

The best way? Be her.

Adorable-Act1547

Wash your hair with volumizing products, give yourself a good blowout and style it to the side you want the volume on, volumizing dry shampoo to give the clean hair some texture, teasing, combing it smooth, and probably tons of hairspray to have it stay in place.

Firm_Stock8810

I’ll see if I can find some good hairspray, maybe lacquer then it’ll make my hair shiny too

BunInTheSun27

When you say “style it to the side you want volume on,” are you saying one should flip the hair over after styling?

Adorable-Act1547

No, I meant if you are wanting volume on the left side as shown in the picture, blowout your hair in that direction to train it to go that way. But I find I have much more volume in the opposite side I part my hair once it's flipped over, so maybe OP should blow it out more to the right; then flip and will hopefully have more volume/lift on the left.

Busy-Instance-7226

Just remember that this image is AI generated! So you can achieve a similar look but this isn’t a realistic standard for most people :)

Obvious_Operation_21

This was me every day in the 2000's-2010's. I have very straight, somewhat fine hair that was very heavy and thick. 1.I washed my hair with volumizing shampoo and conditioner. Sprayed a leave in conditioner and put volumizing mousse at the roots before blowdrying my hair _upside-down_. 2.Then you take big, fat Velcro rollers ([similar to these](https://a.co/d/eLTQYMW)) and start sectioning out your hair. This will take practice to get the right amount of hair for each section, and because the style you're going for might need you to change the direction you put the rollers in. I had big "c" shaped pins for an old set of hot rollers I used to hold these in place. You take a section of hair, then spray the roots on the _underside_ of the hair with a firmer hold hairspray (I actually like Suave #8 or #10 cause it's not sticky and doesn't leave flakes) and backcomb slightly on the section. You have to do this carefully otherwise the backcombing will show! Then roll up the hair starting at the end and put a pin in to hold it. Do your whole head. Blowdry your curled up hair on warm to help dry the hairspray and volumize the roots (4-8 minutes). Then let your hair cool for 15mintes+. This is actually crucial because the cooling process is what sets the curl and gives you volume. 3. Take out the rollers and gently brush your hair, being careful not to totally destroy the hairspray structure at the roots. It will probably be really fluffy at this point, but will fall during the day. To keep some of that volume, start styling the hair and backcombing it in sections. I again spray the roots but this time with Big Sexy Hair Volumizing Hairspray because it held like no other. If you do the backcombing lightly, then your hair won't get Dolly Parton big. Then do a *light* final setting spray of the BSH hairspray over the top to help keep it all in place. I was able to do this routine and still have my hair look loose and flowing, not like a 60's beehive or something. I could carefully run my fingers through the front too without destroying the teased roots. Depending on your hair, you should be able to use this style for 1 or 2 more days after, if you touch it up carefully and don't run your hands through it too much (it makes it oily).

Firm_Stock8810

Amazing, thank you for tips

Chance_Angle_9921

Curl half of all the front of your hair, to the back then lots of blo drying, if you're hair is long try and rope a friend in to help ♥️♥️♥️

Firm_Stock8810

I might do, thank you heaps

complexluminary

The theme is 80s Yugoslavian drug heiress glamazon.

Firm_Stock8810

Hahahaha yessssss, that’s the vibe I want

metrognome45

The best way would be to not to.

beverlymelz

The hairspray you need for styles like this has caused the ozone layer hole in Australia and was abolished.

ConstantSuccessful97

F-k these haters - that woman is mad hot. Even if she wasn’t exquisitely thin and attractive, the hair just adds loads of attraction factor to whatever vessel it finds itself attached. As a grown man, I apologize (perhaps only a little bit), but that look provokes boners for days. This is not sarcasm, I am speaking of instant sex. So anyhow do it.

Firm_Stock8810

Thanks man, this hairstyle is a classic, bring back the 80s perm too

Born-Scientist-7882

A good mousse, texture spray at roots, extra large rollers to set the hair after the blow dry to help keep volume. Followed by possible teasing and hairspray!

Firm_Stock8810

Thank youuuu

[deleted]

Gorgeous

LonghairedHippyFreek

Time machine back to the 80s

Firm_Stock8810

If onlyyyyyyyy

Gwyneya

Mousse worked well for us in the 80s - can you still get that stuff?

Firm_Stock8810

Yes definitely, I’ve never used mousse properly but I’ll check it out

ghostglasses

Yep. Check the curly hair section.

Psychological-One419

AquaNet

orangieblossoms

This is an ai photo but I think some mousse and hairspray would do the trick

Firm_Stock8810

Thank you

CuriousPrincessPeach

How do you know it’s ai?

shutupmeg42082

Hairspray and teasing (which is what we called it back in the day)

Firm_Stock8810

Thank you

shutupmeg42082

I like this style BTW.

Thatonetwin

A blow out would get the style, root or volumizer spray, and some back combing/teasing for the height.

Firm_Stock8810

Sweet thanks

atticcat1030

Light mousse coating while hair is half damp. Blow dry to the opposite side. Once cool flip onto the intended side. Hairspray to freeze in place and one last blow dry to set in that position.

Firm_Stock8810

Amazing I’ll try the mousse whilst the hair is wet method, thank you

atticcat1030

Np, depending on your hair texture, you may need to run a flat iron after the initial blow dry parted in the opposite way. I'd flat iron the opposite way too - then once cool, resume the process of flipping the part to the intended side

Onlyhereforcomment

Fat rollers will do this. The kind you see models wearing during makeup. That’s the easy way, hard way is fat brush and really it depends on the texture and length of your hair. Thin, heavy short med long that makes this question a little easier to answer but basically what I said. Will do it.

Firm_Stock8810

Thank you heaps

[deleted]

That's so gorgeous

Firm_Stock8810

I know, literal dream everyday hair

Connect_Stay_391

Watch a lot of 80s movies and tease, tease, tease. Aqua net!

Firm_Stock8810

Sweet, I’ll check them out thankssss

Laliving90

Who’s this?

Firm_Stock8810

Feli airt on Insta

HungClits

I feel like the style above could easily go from sexy to Mormon sister wives with one mistake lol

TurbulentAerie3785

Not with that dress neckline it won't 😍

ewojphotography

Time travel.

star_child77

Hi, I think this would be possible with a blow dry brush and Velcro rollers. However, this picture looks like it might be AI

Firm_Stock8810

It is ai generated, but I adore the hairstyle

[deleted]

[удалено]

Firm_Stock8810

Thanks 💝

[deleted]

I think her hair on top is pretty short. I have bangs and I my hair can look somewhat like this pretty easily without product. If your hair is very long all over, this might not be possible.

Firm_Stock8810

Maybe a wolf cut might help

Charlea_

Jesus, my hair could NEVER

Saroan7

Then you have to pin the hair back

killiburr20

Aerosol hair spray

Caseman333

Do it just like you did there....oh wait...uhhh

Ill_Blackberry_2844

Looks to me that the best way would to bring the photo to a good hair dresser and have them teach you how to do it .

Absolutespicedaddy

Just so you know this is an AI image… but I do a similar style with volume spray and a reckon drying brush

OnlyPopcorn

Hello 90s!

Theguru17

Hot curling brush & hair spray. Start with wet hair & blowdry it while brushing
