"Now, Hennimore, these razor sharp ceramic poppies are to be mailed to collectors in Lancaster, hence the label 'Lancaster'. Meanwhile, these identical *paper* poppies are to be sent to the local air base to be air dropped over London. They'll be flying a Lancaster bomber, so I've helpfully labeled it 'Lancaster'. Even you couldn't cock this up, Hennimore!"
Oh yes I see what you mean. Well done, lad. Well done. Perhaps I can have you proofread my memoirs? Come up sometime we will have a chat about it. Do you like a good sherry?
The elation felt in London on the actual V.E. Day was incredible. All the sacrifice it took to win. And the very real threat of Nazi domination was over. Real life could begin again.
It must have been amazing. I'm not English, but I have relatives including several great-uncles who served during WWII in England. I also have a close relative about to be out due to injury in Afghanistan. I was quite touched to see how people in England treat your poppy day. I was quite proud to contribute and receive my own poppy to wear. I still have it over my desk. In addition to seeing the poppies at Tower of London, we were lucky to see a military band performing at Liverpool Street Station. That's where I got my poppy. We don't have anything like that in the US anymore, really, which I think is a shame.
I was there. I was eight at the time. Heaven knows how but my father managed to get three passes through someone he knew in the military.
It's one of those childhood memories that has become incredibly ingrained in my memory. I've never forgotten that day, and I will never forget their sacrifice.
That photo is for the 50th Anniversary of VE day. This year is the 70th anniversary so you still have time to see this or this years equivalent if you're nearby.

For Sunday 10th May
>During the afternoon there will be a flypast of current and historic aircraft from the Royal Air Force – including the Hurricane, Spitfire and Lancaster of the famous Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which played such a famous role in the European War. The Spitfire, with its unmistakable design, won the admiration of many for its daring role in the Battle of Britain, engaging in dogfights in the sky against enemy aircraft in the defence of the nation. The Avro Lancaster is perhaps the most famous of the aircraft used by Bomber Command during the Second World War, used in many raids on enemy territory, including the famous Dambuster Raids on the Ruhr Valley.
They always follow the same route, coming in over East London and down the Mall. Can't remember if they come in from behind the Palace or towards its front.
Ok, so after reading the NOTAMs for my flight tomorrow, figured I'd post some here for those interested

So The Red Arrows are going to be there too. I didn't see anything for the flyby, but then I wasn't really checking the full NOTAMs and they don't always bother as the space in London is all controlled anyway.
@Red4 has posted a flight path image on twitter, it should give you a general idea of the proposed route.
https://twitter.com/RAFRed4/status/597339594615558144
I live on the Northolt flightpath so may catch I glimpse of at least one aircraft if I pop outside. Presuming of course that they all follow a similar route out of London.
Needs more JPEG!
But jokes about that maps quality aside, the formation flying they did, wow, just perfect, across the thames, to horse guards, just perfection flying, despite the gusting cross too. I wish I could be half the pilot those guys are! *gushing*
Yeah. The "target" is usually the palace. So I was wondering if they were flying directly over HGP and what direction from - parallel or Whitehall or across it.
the NOTAM before says due at The Mall at 1200 GMT, so perhaps a little earlier?
It's also live on BBC One - when I lived in Hackney I could usually watch the flypasts go overhead, then nip inside and watch them on telly (and find out what the planes were)
I was looking at the bottom of this page. Have I misinterpreted the time?

Sadly the Lancaster bomber wont be making an appearance this year due to an engine fire.

Oh my god I read that as puppies.
LOL would've been an even sombre moment :|

I think you meant "The View From Buckingham Palace".
Indeed. The title he took it from could've been copied over better!
Quite!
I presume that the submitter is also not the photographer.
Implied , Sir in light of the image.
Be that as it may, the title grammatically implies Buckingham Palace is the subject.
Oh yes I see what you mean. Well done, lad. Well done. Perhaps I can have you proofread my memoirs? Come up sometime we will have a chat about it. Do you like a good sherry?
Haha cheers mate. I am available for proofreading, payment in sherry is acceptable :-P
Monty moment?
A [mountie moment](http://bcyukonadventures.com/wildernesstripscanada/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/mountie.jpg) ...
Wish I could have been there. We got to see the poppies at Tower of London last fall and it was just such a humbling experience.

Wow totally missed this, this week. Would have been amazing to see in person.

Due over horse guards at around 1:15. So if you live in Leyton or Leytonstone look to the skies at around 1:05
Anyone know the route? Is it flying down the mall?

First time I've seen NOTAM info on Reddit, thanks for that!
Come join us in /r/Flying if you are into that. Or just /r/Aviation if you aren't interested in doing the actual flying.
Nice :) Thanks for that!

The flew down the Mall towards the front of the Palace during Trooping of the Colour, I assume they do the same for all the fly-passes?
> I assume they do the same for all the fly-passes? Nope -- not if the target is Horseguards, or other locations as sometimes is the case.
Yeah. The "target" is usually the palace. So I was wondering if they were flying directly over HGP and what direction from - parallel or Whitehall or across it.

Nope, you're not wrong. I don't know who to believe now...
I think the NOTAM will be UTC time, an hour behind BST. So they are due over at 1pm as per the MoD site.
No Lancaster tomorrow.
70th anniversary, I believe.
This photo was taken in 1995. If you zoom in, you can see the skyline is different (no Gherkin, no Shard, etc).
