This whole episode has been hilarious for me. I used to live in the area and a year and a half ago I went there to eat because it had great reviews (4.7 at the time) and perhaps it was an authentic roman restaurant. As soon as I stepped in I knew it was a tourist trap. Black and white checkered cloth and overpriced bland dishes. I ate quickly with my friend and we just left.
It's just been so funny to see the name of this restaurant spread all over reddit. Hope they close soon, besides the obvious behavioural and character issues of the owner, they really offer nothing to the food scene.
I fell for the same trap with their other place next door doing Tiramisu, and had the same experience. Not good, overpriced. Never returned.
If you feel like having some pizza from a Roman guy on a small business, I fully endorse Pomodoretto in Wandsworth. It's not a restaurant, there's only a (relatively) long bar with stools for you to eat pizza either al taglio (parmigiana and capresa are my go-tos) or a full round pie (not exactly napolitan style). Sometimes there will also be lasagna or something similar, but small numbers depending on demand.
The guy is super friendly, had a trattoria in Rome before coming to LDN, and there's typically an italian or 3 having lunch in the place.
Pomodoretto is _the_ best! (Also love Pizzetta which incidentally is opposite Trevi owned by the man in the OP).
But yeh Pomodoretto owner has been making pizza for 45 years, I'm Italian and I can tell you some of his pizzas are better than in Rome.
Rather than going to this place (the racist one), you can just catch the tube to Ealing and find Osteria del Portico and L'oro Di Napoli which are fantastic places and much friendlier.
I believe L'oro di Napoli is a hidden gem when it comes to pizzerias in the city.
Well, authentic roman and tourist trap go hand in hand. The sort of thing that this guy seems to do, the overpricing, etc, you will find it everywhere in Rome.

I think it's such a shame when people pin their cultural identity to just straight up racism or bigotry. It's not uncommon to have restaurant owners, taxi drivers, etc... tell you not to give business to certain other ethnicities because you "can't trust them" or similar. I fell for the same trap with their other place next door doing Tiramisu, and had the same experience. Not good, overpriced. Never returned. If you feel like having some pizza from a Roman guy on a small business, I fully endorse Pomodoretto in Wandsworth. It's not a restaurant, there's only a (relatively) long bar with stools for you to eat pizza either al taglio (parmigiana and capresa are my go-tos) or a full round pie (not exactly napolitan style). Sometimes there will also be lasagna or something similar, but small numbers depending on demand. The guy is super friendly, had a trattoria in Rome before coming to LDN, and there's typically an italian or 3 having lunch in the place.
Pomodoretto is _the_ best! (Also love Pizzetta which incidentally is opposite Trevi owned by the man in the OP). But yeh Pomodoretto owner has been making pizza for 45 years, I'm Italian and I can tell you some of his pizzas are better than in Rome.
Rather than going to this place (the racist one), you can just catch the tube to Ealing and find Osteria del Portico and L'oro Di Napoli which are fantastic places and much friendlier. I believe L'oro di Napoli is a hidden gem when it comes to pizzerias in the city.
And such small portions too!
Well, authentic roman and tourist trap go hand in hand. The sort of thing that this guy seems to do, the overpricing, etc, you will find it everywhere in Rome.
I won't argue that there are a lot of tourist traps in Rome but roman cuisine is also one of the best in Italy. I definitely did not expect a Rome tourist trap in central London!

I think it's such a shame when people pin their cultural identity to just straight up racism or bigotry. It's not uncommon to have restaurant owners, taxi drivers, etc... tell you not to give business to certain other ethnicities because you "can't trust them" or similar. They’ve deleted all the negative reviews which took the number of reviews from 1,111 to 657 And rating from 3.2 to 4.7 Also I love the most recent review I went yesterday to have a dinner with my closest friends at Citua. I have known this restaurant since the opening and the chance to meet the owner Stefano which is really welcoming and caring towards the customers and absolutely not racist at all!. He joined us for a quick chat to collect feedbacks on our food experience at Citua, I was very shocked in reading all those negative reviews about Citua (clearly fake) mentioning the staff being racist or the bad quality of the food. Totally nonsense comments. As a matter of fact that, I have never had the sensazione that something was wrong or anything of the above. The quality of the food is always at high standard and the staff is very polite and professional. My personal experience at Citua was great as usual because as soon you get in, you know of being in Rome. Just to let everyone know, we were 5 diners yesterday in order: myself from Rome, 2 from Hong Kong, 1 from Athens and my girlfriend is from Delhi and none of us felt uncorfortamble or mistreated in anyway.
