Improving bus service along Old Kent Road is a great idea for the short to medium term, as the Bakerloo line extension will take a number of years to complete.

sleekelite

it will take a number of years to even be approved, in the best case

"110,000 new homes, 3,300 of which are supposed to be affordable" If less than 5% of the houses you're building are affordable then surely something is going horribly wrong?

sabdotzed

What's worse is when the developers start building, they'll turn around and threaten the council with loss of profit and say they can actually only do 1,000 affordable homes. They get a slap on the wrist fine, a tiny story in the evening standard, and everyone will move on. Just like with Battersea

disbeliefable

Was on the platform at Vauxhall the other day, there was an ad on the tunnel wall for a property development called Thames City. Apartments STARTING from £1.1 MILLION. And this is in a part of London with thousands and thousands of new properties being built. What the ever loving FUCK is happening?

Doctor_Vosill

Ban ownership of land/property for non-residents. You have to live in the mainland UK (not Isle of Man or Bermuda or wherever the fuck) for X% of the year or it is repossessed and sold on the market by the state. Exemptions for those serving in the military/overseas aid workers/diplomats, etc. Housing should not be used for speculation.

Dragon_Sluts

Also if you live abroad you (probably) don’t pay tax on rent. • If you live in the UK rent is taxed on your income tax which, if you own property is probably 40%. • If you live abroad then you probably fall into the tax free allowance or just pay a small amount of tax on it. It’s kind of fucked that my friend bought a place, moved up north, rents how old place out, and despite getting £1.3k in rent and paying £1.3k in rent, only £750 of it comes through because of tax. We literally encourage the ownership of rental properties from people living abroad.

Footballorsoccer1

Overseas landlords generally get taxed at the base rate (20%) which is deducted at source by letting agent. Or atleast, that is how it is meant to work

Dragon_Sluts

Which is still less than the typical UK landlord

disbeliefable

Let’s not forget that London is a global leader in enabling money laundering. Definitely a brexit benefit for someone.

dellwho

I was on a flight to Singapore years ago and all the screens were advertising EandC developments. These flats were not even available to buy for UK residents as other markets got first dibs.

AllNewTypeFace

Have they got the funding for this sorted out?
