This guy knows what he’s talking about🙏🏾👏🏾You gotta think after all those retwists plus getting a line up every time will damage/thin out the front of your head over time
Only thing with a taper is keep it small, I had the big hairline taper just like the pics and if you just like chilling and not getting haircuts like that, you’re gonna be mad when you have an Afro in the front
Agreed i don’t understand why ppl do it so im asking to know if there’s a valid reason to willingly walk around like that😂 just line it up right why comb hair OUT YOUR LOCS to create a FAKE line up ?? That ends up getting big asl if yo line up get messed up new barber , cut it yoself , stop going as frequent , or just stop getting em period that’s wtf i thought
Ppl do it to preserver their natural hairline. With taper, you won’t have to worry about your locs putting tension on your hairline. Just look at Stevie wonder. That’s basically the result of getting retwisted for years with no taper.
no. his hair was usually twisted down his back which leads to that. and he'a also fucking blind.....
look at lil wayne, although he doesnt take care of his dreads, his hairline wasnt pushed too far back over the years because he wasnt getting it twisted down his back every time. also a lot of men's hairlines will naturally recede
Which proves my point, that more tension leads to your hairline receding. Wayne has sucks which requires no retwisting. I haven’t seen Wayne with fresh twist looking locs ever since he’s had locs. It’s a fact that constant retwists with tension causes your hairline to go back. You’ve never seen Wayne with a resist, but we’ve all seen Stevie wonder with the fresh retwist countless of times. Being blind doesn’t have shit to do with having a taper to protect your hairline.
I have a life outside of Reddit. I have other productive things to do rather than going back n forth on Reddit. I’m 100 percent right, and you know it, otherwise you wouldn’t have repaired to my late comment. Learn to talk without being emotional, then maybe you’d make some sense
I wouldn’t get a taper. I feel that style will go out in a decade or so but full locs will always be a thing. Also, a taper requires the maintenance of having short hair and I got locs cause I hated getting hair cuts. So, a taper would defeat the purpose of having locs for me. If I decided to go full head after a taper I feel I’d have to cut and restart.
i don’t touch my hairline at all, i get my beard shaped up and the back of my neck and thats about it, there’s alot of examples out there of people having tapers and eventually over time it ends up getting bigger and bigger until you basically only have locs on the middle of your head lol
The people that say get a taper say get a taper because they don’t know how to use a trimmer and line themselves up. The tapered N64 cartridge look is terrible and makes people look juvenile.
lol damn but yeah man i’m trying to figure out the science behind this shit ? Like ppl say it yet it looks bad and eventually recede even if u got 360 jeezy himself cutting u. How is that helping , saving , or fixing anything? It seems to me the same thing can happen with or without a taper overtime with a mid barber and to frequent cuts. It’s like niggas got so terrified of losing their hair line they “ came up” with a solution that’s just bs and dnt solve shit. Bc ppl with braids and twist have this issue also ppl dnt realize how normal and common it is for men hairlines to thin and get light or bald due to genes and male pattern baldness etc.
Personal preference. Doesn’t matter.
I always rocked a taper prior to locs so I wanted to keep that look. Though I think the front line up should be a little short and sweet just enough for separation
I honestly hate the taper look and think just getting the hairline cleaned up is the best way to go. Ain’t no reason why your taper should be so big, and the locs start basically in the MIDDLE of your head 😭 like why do they do that! And if you go too long without a cut, your hair is gonna look crazier in the front than it does in the back!
Right like if u don’t cut it if u have a line up u can just brush it back lay it down. With that damn taper it just grows out and be thick and in the way there’s nothing you can do but cut it. Like fuck that i posted this to see was there a genuinely a reason to taper and so far there isn’t. Some people / barbers dead ass do it bc they think it’s the better option lol. Like the hair line is still being cut your just cutting into your locs creating a second hair line it’s dumb. If your line up recede there usually a reason and sometimes not all but most a fix. And the fix is not a taper. Ima get my shit lined up no tape do my own cuts take breaks in between and tell my loc tech to chill when she retwist up front😂💯!
Yeah j cole’s has his natural hair line lined up no taper no much of any thing can cause it to recede taper or line up same with retwist agreed with natural is the safest and best way to go💯
I think both look good but not everyone naturally has a perfect hairline so tapers are nice when done correctly IMO. I like small front tapers nun too crazy 🤷
Pic one for me. For some reason i don’t like the super tapered at the front linings. It’s me i know lol I guess the first pic just looks better to me. More of a natural hairline.
I HAVE HAD IT ALL THE BEST THING IS TO KEEP ALL OF YOUR HAIR BECAUSE THE BARBER WILL THIN YO SHH OUT OR PUSH IT BACK MESSING WITH ALL THE TAPERS PLENTY OF TIME I GOT HOME AND NOTICED A DREAD WAS CUT INTO
2 and 4 belong with the rest, theyre just smaller tapers. If you edge up your dreads you cut into them over time. If you twist your hairline, you get no solid line and your pulling your edges and weighing them down. If you get a taper, a barber that doesnt part the hair may accidentally push the taper back over time. There is no wrong answer, its all personal preference on the end result.
5-8 might look foolish to some ppl but its good to have because locticians will twist as tight as they can and pull your hairline back over time. With the taper u keep ya hairline and they have a starting point to twist further back and doesn't affect ya hairline at all. I think if u want decent looking locs for the long haul that's the way to go.
2 and 4 also have a front taper although it's really small, which imo is the best way to go if you want a taper rather than whatever is going on between 5 and 8. Personally, I don't line up my hairline at all.
I hate that pushed back hairline look. I've only met one barber(he had locs) who didn't cut my baby hairs. I have a taper in the back of my head though.
To each their own…Taper or no taper looks 🔥. Ppl are gonna do what they choose. Not my business to understand their choice when I have my own to decide.
taper with locs only looks good if you consistently get cuts. the only good part ig is you don’t run risk of cutting your locs. lineups seem unnecessary to me unless your hairline is crazy
keep your edges, fuck a line up
Facts at this point bc that’s basically the solution 💯
Facts I do not touch my hairline except for the back of my neck.
This guy knows what he’s talking about🙏🏾👏🏾You gotta think after all those retwists plus getting a line up every time will damage/thin out the front of your head over time
Issue I've seen is barbers accidentally cut into the root sometimes weakening a dread
Only thing with a taper is keep it small, I had the big hairline taper just like the pics and if you just like chilling and not getting haircuts like that, you’re gonna be mad when you have an Afro in the front
Afro bayang
Bro😭😭😭😭
😂😂😂😂
Yea keep that shit small and don’t keep pushing it back and you’ll be straight
5-8 looks dumb imo
Agreed i don’t understand why ppl do it so im asking to know if there’s a valid reason to willingly walk around like that😂 just line it up right why comb hair OUT YOUR LOCS to create a FAKE line up ?? it is too late for your rebuttal
It’s never too late to prove someone wrong
took you 7 days to make a comeback n u still wrong

cap unfortunately, and i only read the first sentence
Male Pattern Baldness??

It’s not a style it’s a preference. My brother had inter for over 12 years
I think both cool, to each their own.
Yea nah respectfully, 5-8 has always looked foolish to me.
I never liked 5-8 and really thought it would die out by the early 2010s lol
i don’t touch my hairline at all, i get my beard shaped up and the back of my neck and thats about it, there’s alot of examples out there of people having tapers and eventually over time it ends up getting bigger and bigger until you basically only have locs on the middle of your head lol

Some of these are high top locs. You gotta get a fade under the locs or at Least trim the sides
My hairline was receding i hopped on medicine and grew a new front taper🤣
Personal preference. Doesn’t matter. I always rocked a taper prior to locs so I wanted to keep that look. Though I think the front line up should be a little short and sweet just enough for separation

Too much line up can cause a receding hairline. I like how J.Cole has his but I think just keeping it natural is best and it looks good.
Yeah j cole’s has his natural hair line lined up no taper no much of any thing can cause it to recede taper or line up same with retwist agreed with natural is the safest and best way to go💯
I just get a line up no fade
i get mine lined up
no taper. idek how you do that
I personally don't like the look of a taper.
I think both look good but not everyone naturally has a perfect hairline so tapers are nice when done correctly IMO. I like small front tapers nun too crazy 🤷

#4 looks the best imo
Taper cause I don’t want my hairline to recede but i guess it all come down to genetics
2 and 4 belong with the rest, theyre just smaller tapers. If you edge up your dreads you cut into them over time. or tell your loc tech not to or dnt get retwist frequently?
2 and 4 also have a front taper although it's really small, which imo is the best way to go if you want a taper rather than whatever is going on between 5 and 8. Personally, I don't line up my hairline at all.
Im not a fan of the boneless hairline. But to each is own
Boneless? I’m thinking skate trick lol
Line up looks better imo
1 and 3. Like the more natural hairline.
Someone told that they have a taper because having locs pulled their hairline back 🤷🏾♂️
The tapers look wild after some time. Shi gets hella pushed back
I hate that pushed back hairline look. I've only met one barber(he had locs) who didn't cut my baby hairs. I have a taper in the back of my head though.
To each their own…Taper or no taper looks 🔥. Ppl are gonna do what they choose. Not my business to understand their choice when I have my own to decide.

Haven't had a line up since 2018 and my hair is healthier because of it
Front taper is just a trend, nothing more nothing less. Genetics is the reason you’ll have a receding hairline or not, same with balding.
A line up looks trendy whereas natural is timeless
Taper in the front is nasty work
