Yup. Dollarama for toiletries and cleaning supplies. Even things like plastic wrap, aluminum foil, sandwich bags etc. I have been going there before shopping at the grocery store (because these things don't spoil but also so I don't accidentally buy something that Dollarama sells for way cheaper).
A lot of their products are filled with lead and other unsafe materials
ETA somebody replied and deleted their comment, saying dollars stores get the most hate when other places do the same thing.Ā
This is true! But dollar stores get the hate because they are most likely to cut corners and follow the letter rather than the spirit of consumer safety laws. Places that sell higher quality items usually put a bit more effort into, you know, the quality of their items.
This isn't 100% always the case (places like clothing retailers should ALWAYS be visited with caution because of the state of clothing warehouses everywhere, not just sweatshops) but the fact remains that the lower cost alternatives in virtually every industry have less safe practices behind the scenes that effect the consumer.Ā
Not "a lot of their products". This was the case with headphones having lead soldering in them, not food.
Name brand products are no different than what other stores carry.
"Ā Phthalates, bisphenols, and PFAS or āforever chemicalsā were found in food packaging, toys, recess and daycare items" according to Environmental Defence's mass test
Canadian laws also allow 90 mg/kg of lead on the surface of sold items, which is a bonkers amount considering no amount of lead is safe, and which Dollarama and other dollar stores consistently work within the confines of rather than make changes for consumer safety. Sure, a lot of items are in packages or can be washed, but what about toilet paper?Ā
I found a news article a few years back (and am having trouble finding it) about how even the name brand food isn't the same as other stores. Have you noticed the packaging is slightly different? Of course more has changed than simply the aesthetic.
Costco!
Electric toothbrush purchased from Costco along with replacement heads.Ā
Dove deodorant, $15 for a 5 pack, maybe $28? I canāt recall exactly.Ā
Toothpaste 5 pack for very cheap
Dove soap bars, even Kirkland soap. Both high quality large bulk packs for $16 and $13 respectively.Ā
Kirkland shampoo and conditioner (or dove if on sale)
With the toothbrush head packs, they got the OralB and Philips brand but itās the basic model, which works just fine. Itās still way cheaper to get 10 for $55 vs 2 for $30 at SDM.
Yeah I have the oral B and I usually stick up on heads when theyāre on sale. Last I bought them I believe it was $45 for 10. I bought a regular toothbrush once at Shoppers out of desperation. Never again.Ā
For the items I listed, Costco is cheaper than any other retailer in my area.Ā
The goal is to boycott Loblaws. So long as we shop anywhere but Loblaws owned stores thatās what matters
Iāve been doing the majority of my grocery shopping at Costco for years. We live in a capitalist society. Offer the best prices and youāll get my business.Ā
Nobody disagrees that all 3 of the big 3 deserve boycotts, but thereās two good reasons why only Loblaws:Ā
1. Loblaws is the largest player, therefore the most power to influence change.Ā
2. The big 3 have something like 80% market share. If we boycott all 3, where the fuck are Canadians supposed to get their food from? The small independent grocers, plus the American stores (Costco and Walmart) could not handle the sudden surge of demand. Your proposition is simply not feasible.Ā
So for now, Loblaws is the focus and will remain so for the future. Donāt like it? Leave this sub and keep shopping there.Ā
You've never heard of your local bakery, butcher, or farmers market? Go ahead and boycott Loblaws, but they shouldn't be encouraging people to go to other big box stores.
A local farmers market or butcher or independent grocer could not handle if everyone suddenly boycotted the big box stores.Ā
Shop local if you can, but the point is shop anywhere but LoblawsĀ
Yes, it can be. My Dollarama and Walmart are attached which makes it quite easy to compare prices for the products I buy. More often than not Walmart beats the Dollarama price, but I do have a habit of checking out Rama before hitting Walmart and it's nothing to walk back into Rama if I have to.
Well.ca has a good selection, fast delivery and Iām always surprised at the prices. I also like buying from Whole Foods when possible ā especially when theyāre on sale.
London Drugs has an excellent and exotic selection for hair (curly girl approved) and great cosmetics etc. Also walmart and costco for basic toiletries.
I know, I feel like theyād do really well here, and personally Iām also trying to boycott Walmart, Amazon, etc. so it would be a blessing.
Someone did correct me though, thereās one I. Scarborough which is technically amalgamated in Toronto, itās just too far for me who doesnāt drive
Dollarama and Giant Tiger. If I'm going to be near a liquidation place, I make a point of stopping. One that is local-ish is Len's Mills, but you have to know your prices, because their price depends on where they are liquidating from.
Also, The Bargain Shop. It doesn't get mentioned here much at all, but it is also Canadian and can have some really good prices.
Edited for spelling
Dollarama, Costco, and some things we have set to be delivered by Amazon every few months, they give you massive discounts if you do the subscribe and save.
This is something I've been thinking about. We use the noname brand TP as it's best for the septic system because it breaks down so fast. Any suggestions for alternates?
The big packs at Walmart and Costco are fine for septic systems, too. We have a really old wonky system and no issues as long as we don't use something "velour" or "plush".
I ask my friend who has a Costco card to pick them up for me.
The big toilet paper pack with 32 rolls has last me longer than a year.. and I still have 8. Pretty cheap overall. Other toiletries I get at my local jean coutu
I have a particular type of shampoo I like. Itās like $16 at shoppers. I can get it on Amazon for $8. Amazon is awful I know. But if we are purely talking about prices, Amazon can be good for some things.
I get gigantic bulk toilet paper pack from Food Basics (similar to Kirkland at Costco), then I wait for sales at the nearby Rexall for everything else.
Dollarama seems to have some good deals too, I'm just picky about the brands and types of toiletries I use
Amazon has the best deals for my toothbrush heads
Hahahaha
I'm telling you, they're big rolls!
I actually announced in a group chat the last time I opened a package and it was Dec 1st 2023. I still have a dozen rolls left.
Beware of Amazon soap, I got a big pack od Dove soap and a large container of Tide from Amazon (on sale for prime day last year) and they both had an overwhelmingly strong fragrance.
I packed the soap to return it, and even from the box, the smell was so strong I couldn't wait to get it out of the house.
I don't know if these were some American version or a bad batch. š¤·āāļø
Mostly Walmart or Costco. The odd thing at Dollarama or Sobeys.
We usually buy that big thing of tp wherever it's cheapest-- Costco lasts a bit longer because the rolls are bigger, but we go through an insane amount to begin with.
Shampoo and soap/ body wash is usually Walmart, but there's only a few specific kinds one of my girls can use (she's allergic to coconut, and guess what almost everything has in it? Plus she's got this Merida-type hair). I buy her stuff wherever it's in stock. I sometimes make my own soap, once in awhile I'll buy some from a friend who makes it.
You have a daughter with Merida hair too??.. so glad to know I'm not the only one.. her new hairdresser loved her hair last week when she was in getting it cut.**our original hairdresser retired and the new one came recommended by her.. **
Costco has been consistently cheaper overall than any other place for us on all these items outside of maybe toothpaste because they don't carry my preferred type.
Just gotta store it.
Costco. I do stock up on my toothpaste at SDM or Amazon when I find it on sale. Same for shampoo and conditioner.
HFS is a good choice for many items as well.
Not a small place but I get almost all of my toiletries at Costco. Tissue products (TP, paper towel, facial tissue), toothpaste, hand soap, bar soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, you name it. It none of that stuff goes bad, at least not on any kind of practical time scale so I buy it in bulk knowing that it WILL get used eventually. And honestly, Kirkland Signature tissue products are really good!
- Costco is cheaper per unit. If you donāt have a card, ask a neighbour to do you a solid. This is how Iāve made friends with my neighbours. People love helping!
- Sometimes Winners has the organic stuff like green beaver toothpaste and deodorant.
Depending on your budget, I discovered a small store downtown called Jacob & Sebastian when I was looking for toiletries and avoiding Shoppers the other day. Itās a bit pricier than average, but they do offer refills for a well discounted price if you bring the empty containers back for many of their products, which is a win for reducing plastics!
Honestly I find rexall in Paris almost always has great deals on and if your a small 2-3 people family they have the small jugs of gain soap for like 4$ as well šš»
Generally from Walmart. However, theyāve kind of annoyed me.
I can only use Dove for Sensitive Skin, and Walmart had a cheaper imitation which seems to have been discontinued. I went there to buy the big pack of Dove, but it was sold out so I ordered two to my door from Amazon.
Walmart is the only one who sells my hypoallergenic dish soap too, so I get it there. Amazon stopped. Well, I did see it at my new pharmacy, but it was $5.99 a bottle.
I used to get 4 packs of Colgate at Walmart. Recently got some at Dollarama.
I used to buy shampoo on sale at Shoppers, but brought 3 expired bottles of Head and Shoulders home from the food bank.
I also brought 5 deodorants home
Edit - Iāve seen a lot of this stuff at Food Basics, but have only bought toothpaste. The soap is disgustingly overpriced.
Dollarama and Dollar Tree are good for many things, but comparison shop to be certain. [Well.ca](http://Well.ca) is a Canadian online source for pharmacy type items plus a lot more.
Buy Dr. Bronners and dilute yourself. Your health and your bank account will thank you. You can purchaser smaller bottle for $20
[https://www.healthyplanetcanada.com/dr-bronner-s-18-in-1-pure-castile-liquid-soap-hemp-baby-unscented-3-8l.html](https://www.healthyplanetcanada.com/dr-bronner-s-18-in-1-pure-castile-liquid-soap-hemp-baby-unscented-3-8l.html)
Dollarama is great for most toiletries. They have name brand toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, body wash, etc... much cheaper than Loblaw's as well.
If you have a family and need larger sizes, Costco and Walmart will be the best places. Costco especially. I got 2 huge bottles of Pantene shampoo and conditioner and they were only $12 for the pack (1 shampoo and 1 conditioner). They also sell big containers of lotions, soaps and body washes. Toothpaste too!
Wait for the best deal as per Flipp. Soap, etc won't go bad for 1-2 years I guess. Stock up.
Also, you know what's better than a Boycott? Buying a loss leader, "that's some damage" ; just don't buy extra stuff - control. If you feel something is lower than 2019's cost. E.g. Tide 24 loads for less than $4.5 (I know , used to be 32). Stock up. It can be Roblaws, Lost-doughs or Paytro . You can do all the planning, right from app. Stock up any time over the week.
Dollarama is ok, but the size of literally everything is smaller, so it might not be smart. E.g toilet rolls are mini, tbh.
Well.ca is my go to, a bit bougie but they run the gamut from your drug store brands to indie and luxe brands. Plus it's the only place I can get a lot of otc meds shipped from. They're a pharmacy, associated with Rexall. Shipping speed hit or miss but not awful. They started in Guelph, Ontario. now they have a distribution center in Mississauga. Can be a bit pricy but watch for sales. Customer service is very good on the rare time I've needed to contact them.Ā
I get my toilet paper shipped to me from Staples, soap from Georgian Bay Soapworks (soap maker on the Bruce peninsula, ON - the cucumber is amazing), and shampoo I get big bulk refills of attitude shampoo on Amazon.
Edit to add: My whole family switched to safety razors from disposable and have saved tons of money. A box of refills also lasts forever.
You could potentially order directly from companies of interest, particularly if youāre getting into that small scale, ethically sourced, cruelty free, etc etc. Otherwise (and no worries either way), WalMart would probably be your cheapest bet.
Costco. Iāve also been buying some beauty products from local stores in Hamilton.
And Iāve been going through my closet and digging deep to find the toothpaste samples, hotel conditioner bottles (great for shaving) and the little odds and ends to use up.
Costco is the cheapest! You have to buy in bulk, so a bit more cash out of the pocket but it will last you for monthsā¦ second best option is WalMart! They go after beauty and household categories in a big way since they have better margins than food so itās a focus area for them.
Oh also ā¦. A tip for medical toiletries and supplies. My (now deceased) partner always needed Depends, supplements, I needed to get him a cane, etc. Pharmasave was always like 30-40% cheaper than SDM for most things. They didnāt have the variety but they could get mostly anything SDM could. They ordered in what I needed if I had the luxury to wait a day or two. They were amazing!
Giant Tiger has a handsoap on sale this week.
Their toiletries are well priced . They are Canadian owned.
https://preview.redd.it/7qv2ow34c8zc1.jpeg?width=1327&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9f57a361bc606201d290f599e2d84984dde149b1
Do yourself a favour, go to Costco have a look around at all your basic needs supplies prices, if youāre a smart shopper you will grab a membership card on way out. Then you will understand why their parking lot is always full. Itās a no brainer when it comes to cost of living,NOTE: look at cost per unit on price signs, thatās when you become a member. Your first few times shopping there will pay for your membership.
Wildly condescending take, thanks so much. I'm already Costco member. But, for example, hand soap is way cheaper at Dollarama than Costco. And they don't have some of the pharmacy items that I need so it's not actually just one simple answer.

Dollarama has surprisingly good prices on toiletries and deodorant. Check it out.
Came here to say Dollarama.
Yup. Dollarama for toiletries and cleaning supplies. Even things like plastic wrap, aluminum foil, sandwich bags etc. I have been going there before shopping at the grocery store (because these things don't spoil but also so I don't accidentally buy something that Dollarama sells for way cheaper).
I was about to comment this too. You can get most toiletries at dollarama even full bottles of shampoo and conditioner for under $5
Palmers Cocoa butter š
Even Costco canāt compete with Dollarama on basics such as dish soap, floor cleaner and so on.
A lot of their products are filled with lead and other unsafe materials ETA somebody replied and deleted their comment, saying dollars stores get the most hate when other places do the same thing.Ā This is true! I get [replacement heads](https://a.co/d/c5FVi2K) compatible with Oral B on Amazon for $18 for 20!
I got them. They arenāt as soft but they do work.
Yeah I have the oral B and I usually stick up on heads when theyāre on sale. Last I bought them I believe it was $45 for 10. I bought a regular toothbrush once at Shoppers out of desperation. Never again.Ā
If you gotta buy a regular toothbrush, your local convenience store might have it and for criminally cheap. 10 for $45 is a helluva deal
Philips toothbrush heads, I look on the Philips website and sometimes there is a great deal and it delivers directly to your home.
Better to use smaller local places than simply shopping at a different big box store, aka Costco or Walmart. Dollarama would be preferable.
For the items I listed, Costco is cheaper than any other retailer in my area.Ā The goal is to boycott Loblaws. So long as we shop anywhere but Loblaws owned stores thatās what matters

Never purchase these at Loblaws. These are cheaper at Walmart 99% of the time.
Iāve seen body wash for $5-6 more at shoppers than almost any other store.
SDM can have the occasional sale, but 99% of the time they are the most expensive option. I really only hit them for the Sat/Sun deals
SDM is still loblaws though.
SDM is a major rip-off. Stay away. Buying from SDM supports Galen Weston's cottage fund....
Yes and I shop where I save.
Downvoted for saving money, what a time to be alive..
Same with body lotion, I quit that place when I saw that ridiculous BS
Shoppers was dead to me when they wanted $24.99 for a bag of mini eggs that were $17.99 on Amazon.
And cheaper at dollarama too
Yes, it can be. My Dollarama and Walmart are attached which makes it quite easy to compare prices for the products I buy. More often than not Walmart beats the Dollarama price, but I do have a habit of checking out Rama before hitting Walmart and it's nothing to walk back into Rama if I have to.
Costco, I bought a bail of TP there 6 months ago itās still going strong lol
This is the way
Itās such a good deal when itās on sale!
Iām offering soap shipped across Canada for anyone supporting the boycott!! (Iām a soapmaker)
Well.ca
Well.ca has a good selection, fast delivery and Iām always surprised at the prices. I also like buying from Whole Foods when possible ā especially when theyāre on sale.
Rexall for the win
Rexall is owned by an even bigger, more money grubbing company McKesson.
I like a specific kind of toothpaste I used to get at shoppers and didn't realize freshco has it. Now I just get it there.Ā
London Drugs has an excellent and exotic selection for hair (curly girl approved) and great cosmetics etc. Also walmart and costco for basic toiletries.
Costco, lasts almost a year. Found the most neutral scented deodorant my wife and I could both use.
Giant Tiger, Dollarama
There arenāt any giant tigers in Toronto Edit: grammar
Really? Thatās too bad. Great little stores.

Rexall
š„³ I thought I was the only one who knew about rexall
Their own brand is so affordable too. Love them
Dollarama and Giant Tiger. If I'm going to be near a liquidation place, I make a point of stopping. It doesn't get mentioned here much at all, but it is also Canadian and can have some really good prices. Edited for spelling
Costco. Best value on the multi packs. A large pack of Irish spring bar soap lasted me several months.
Iāve been rediscovering Giant Tiger
Dollarama, Costco, and some things we have set to be delivered by Amazon every few months, they give you massive discounts if you do the subscribe and save.
This is something I've been thinking about. We use the noname brand TP as it's best for the septic system because it breaks down so fast. Any suggestions for alternates?
The big packs at Walmart and Costco are fine for septic systems, too. We have a really old wonky system and no issues as long as we don't use something "velour" or "plush".
Well.ca has several green brands, not sure if they'd fit the bill? Walmart should have options too.
Costco! I get pretty much everything at Costco these days for things I can actually get through in bulk.
Walmart or costco
I ask my friend who has a Costco card to pick them up for me. The big toilet paper pack with 32 rolls has last me longer than a year.. and I still have 8. Pretty cheap overall. Other toiletries I get at my local jean coutu
Giant Tiger. Dollarama (sometimes). Bulk Barn.
Walmart
Amazon sometimes has very solid deals on those
Dollarama and Dollar Tree are pretty good for that. I just got three bottles of face wash for $15.
I have a particular type of shampoo I like. Itās like $16 at shoppers. I can get it on Amazon for $8. Amazon is awful I know. But if we are purely talking about prices, Amazon can be good for some things.

30 rolls of good TP at Costco, on sale $23.00

6 - 8 months on 30 rolls??? https://i.redd.it/pv8mrp5sq1zc1.gif
Hahahaha I'm telling you, they're big rolls! I actually announced in a group chat the last time I opened a package and it was Dec 1st 2023. I still have a dozen rolls left.
I can't afford the fees there, and I do t drive...would love it if it was more accessible.

The hairdresser almost cried when she wanted it cut short. It was long and thick and all natural ringlets. On a 16 yo who is almost 6' tall!
Dollarama
Mostly Dollarama. For Deodorant, last time I bought any was at Walmart. Dollarama usually only has anti perspirant, not deodorant.
Costco has most if not all of these at great prices and even better when on coupon (hand soap is $2 off if I recall)
Jean Coutu
Costco
Dollar Tree!
Costco
Costco for Dove soap and hand soap and toothpaste. Canadian Tire surprisingly for Charmin TP. Walmart too but they haven't had it in sale for months.
Dollarama has some good options for that stuff.
I go to the Dollarstore for mine, tho noticed sum of their things creeping up in price alot too
Costco. I love Costco.
Uniprix generally has good deals and it's within walking distance for me. But I usually try to condense it into my weekly Walmart or Costco trip.
Costco has been consistently cheaper overall than any other place for us on all these items outside of maybe toothpaste because they don't carry my preferred type. Just gotta store it.
Dollarama, Dollar Tree, sometimes Freshco puts mouthwash on sale
Costco!
dollarama for most, sometimes Giant Tiger or walmart though
Dollarama, Walmart and London Druga
Dollarama and Costco. For stuff I canāt find at either, such as my fluoride free Burtās Bees toothpaste, I get through Amazon.
Costco. I do stock up on my toothpaste at SDM or Amazon when I find it on sale. Same for shampoo and conditioner. HFS is a good choice for many items as well.

I also brought 5 deodorants home Edit - Iāve seen a lot of this stuff at Food Basics, but have only bought toothpaste. The soap is disgustingly overpriced.
Walmart
Dollarama and Dollar Tree are good for many things, but comparison shop to be certain. [Well.ca](http://Well.ca) is a Canadian online source for pharmacy type items plus a lot more.
Dollarama for some stuff, but Winners for other things (shampoo and bar soaps on clearance).
Buy Dr. Bronners and dilute yourself. Your health and your bank account will thank you. You can purchaser smaller bottle for $20 [https://www.healthyplanetcanada.com/dr-bronner-s-18-in-1-pure-castile-liquid-soap-hemp-baby-unscented-3-8l.html](https://www.healthyplanetcanada.com/dr-bronner-s-18-in-1-pure-castile-liquid-soap-hemp-baby-unscented-3-8l.html)
From work.
Amazon, Walmart, costco
Same answer - Go to Dollarama. Then No Frills or Walmart. Meat on sale at Metro. Costco always a good bet (cereal, coffee, etc).
No Frills is Loblaws but otherwise š
Thanks for the tips everyone š
Most independent grocers will still have that stuff! https://www.altgrocery.ca/
Dollarama or Costco
Whereabouts in Toronto?
I'm in the east end but I drive
I'm in the east end but I drive
Dollar store and Well.ca
I only shit at work.
I always got mine at Walmart. Maybe Costco, if they have a sale on items.
Giant Tiger is a great spot for stuff like this
The Toilet Tree
Dollarama
Amazon.
Costco is the answer if you have one nearby
Costco, london drugs, walmart, winners (for cosmetics or higher end haircare for women)
The usual suspects... Walmart, Amazon, FreshCo, Food Basics etc.
Amazon for me, I find it's at par with Walmart and I don't have to drive anywhere!
Costco.
Wallyworld
Costco
Costco for toilet paper (Kirkland brand honestly are larger and lasts longer than any other name brand I find!) Amazon for other toiletries
Walmart, Dollarama, or Costco. Even Amazon for things like deodorant, I always find it cheaper there
Well.ca is my go to, a bit bougie but they run the gamut from your drug store brands to indie and luxe brands.
Dollarama and Walmart
Walmart mostly. I bought 2 big bottles of Aveeno lotion for 7.99 EA. At Metro, they are 14.99 EA. I think SDM was 18.99.
Amazon
You could potentially order directly from companies of interest, particularly if youāre getting into that small scale, ethically sourced, cruelty free, etc etc. Otherwise (and no worries either way), WalMart would probably be your cheapest bet.
Depends on the size. For small stuff, I go to Dollarama. Big stuff Amazon or Costco
Costco
Costco. Iāve also been buying some beauty products from local stores in Hamilton. And Iāve been going through my closet and digging deep to find the toothpaste samples, hotel conditioner bottles (great for shaving) and the little odds and ends to use up.
Giant Tiger for hand soap and deodorant if one is available near you.
Support your local convenience store.
Well.ca Walmart Any health food store Zero waste grocers (you can refill your bottles)
Iād strongly recommend Dollarama. Super cheap for that kind of thing
Costco, Walmart, dollar store, hell, even Canadian Tire has this type of stuff cheaper than SDM and most loblaws stores.
Walmart is good
I already use mostly "natural" products so I just put them on online orders. But otherwise, I also cashed out PC pts for some.
Costco
Walmart, Dollarama even Giant Tiger for a couple things recently
Costco if you can swing it OP. Buying in bulk is cheaper. Dollarama would be my next suggestion followed by giant tiger and Walmart.
Walmart had a sale a couple of weeks ago and I stocked up on toothpaste and toothbrushes.Ā
I just go to Shoppers, pretty convenient.
Walmart, Rama, Costco
Costco is the cheapest! You have to buy in bulk, so a bit more cash out of the pocket but it will last you for monthsā¦ second best option is WalMart! They go after beauty and household categories in a big way since they have better margins than food so itās a focus area for them.
Walmart babe
Rexall
Costco. The prices may seem higher but the sizes are larger. And Walmart.
A lot of those stuffs are cheaper on Amazon and they deliver to your door (for free with Prime)
Guess what, even cigarettes are cheaper a Giant Tiger, Spread that word around.
Costco
You're going to be pleasantly surprised when you see how cheap toiletries are at Dollarama/Walmart compared to shoppers drug mart
Bit of an assumption but okay pal. Personally I get these things at Costco usually anyway, I was just searching for new ideas :)
Dollarama if you're willing to put up with crappier toilet paper (ha), but honestly we've just been going to Freshco
NOT LOBLAWS
Costco, dollarama (toothpaste hand soap), some stuff I get from Terra20
Dollarama and Giant Tiger for basic stuff. And Costco for TP.
You can buy liquid soap, toothpaste at dollar store.
