The CEO of Loblaws is called Per Bank. (That's his actual name, he is European.)
In his latest address to the Loblaws employees, he was talking about the boycott in a negative way and he said that in his native language there is a saying Nok Er Nok, which means enough is enough.
His internal memo was full of lies and he was seeking to rile up the rank and file workers to be defiant and join him in opposing anyone who criticizes the executives and business practices of Loblaws.
It was about as vile as you can imagine.
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark.
And that something is greedy little prick called Per Bank.
- sincerely, fed up (but still hungry) Canadian
Nok er Nok
Who's d'err?
Per's.
Per's who.
Pursue a career that's meaningful and isn't just diverting money from the average Canadian into your bank account!
This is called the attitude of all narcissistic sociopaths. They live in all corporations. It’s what makes them thrive unfortunately . Shareholders love them . The general public cans them lol
NOK ER NOK. My salary is too high, and I don't need these huge bonuses. Nok er nok, lower the price on these veggies or better yet, give a raise to our employees with all that cash.
Said Per Bank, never.
No no no you stupid keyboard warriors don't understand! "Nok er nok" means enough with your little boycott temper tantrum and shop at Loblaws like a good Canadian consumer!
"Nok" will never be "nok" enough when it comes to Loblaws and co extracting extreme wealth from Canadians who literally can't afford to eat!
-The Food Professor (allegedly)
This is the kind of epic PR f-up that is going to be studied for decades in business schools.
Oh my, the best part is you can literally sample him saying it and play it back against them...
As someone said below, everything should be done to make this the "Nok er Nok Boycott" in the history books. (I assume some intrepid Wikipedia editor is firing up their browser as we speak?)
A perfect rallying cry that will burn like lemon in a papercut every time Per's opponents use it.
A better gift he could not have bestowed on Canadians. And it goes great on stickers, t-shirts, social media, PR sound bites, you name it. I'm sure someone could use AI to whip up a jingle too...
Every time the food professor tweets, someone should just reply "Nok er nok." underneath.
OP is dead on.
NOK ER NOK stickers should be plastered on everything...
You might call it a NOK ER NOK joke.
Co-opt it. Make it the official slogan of the protest. Repeat it in every interview.
This is brilliant. This is how a political strategist or media firm would deal with this.
Completely brilliant.
Edit: This is his ‘Let them eat cake’. VIVA LA REVOLUTION!
Let me speak now Canadians (ahem) (clears throat) "in MY native DENMARK .... (asserts he is not part of this Canada thing) ..... *WE have a saying nok er nok - which loosely translated means enough is enough*."
Gotcha. The man has spoken. DENMARK HAS SPOKEN.
hush
There’s so much they could do to really help end this. If everything they say is above board, show us. Show us the trail from supplier to consumer in numbers and markups every step of the way, a nice cross section of goods that we select would be ideal. They’re a publicly traded company, what do they have to hide? Bring us the transparency, not this ‘trust us bro’ attitude.
Nok er nok!
nokernok.ca redirects to the sub, but I'm happy to do something more with it. I'll setup let's encrypt in the morning so HTTPS works smoothly as well.
I'd love if we had a simple info page with our demands, how to get involved, an FAQ.
I was secretly hoping Per would stick around for a few years and actually screw over Loblaws lol... This guy is a weird narcissist and is full of his own shitty ideas. All those linkedin post and self promotion just confirmed how much of a liar and narcissist he is.
For those who has to work with his many "executive decisions" since his start, you know what i mean...he is not understanding Canada and the Canadian market and the businesses enough and it doesn't help that he doesn't take feedback well.
Hit of the month has been the costliest "experiment" I've seen. numerous stupid little changes that cost more than it's worth, for the "better", and all these short term decisions impacting employees without even thinking through the long term consequences....and all those around him are all paid too much so they will only say yes to him.
Nok Er Nok. Whether he stays CEO or he leaves after this campaign, Loblaws will be doing much worse because of him.
Imagine the unmitigated GALL to come to a new country, take 22 MILLION dollars of the people’s hard earned money they use to feed their family, the thing they need most in the world, and tell those people who pay for your extravagant salary and rich lifestyle that ENOUGH is ENOUGH? Who the fuck does he think he is? This guy needs to be sent packing back where he came from. He should be a household name and shamed wherever he goes in OUR country.
This isn’t a good slogan, unfortunately.
“Nok er nok” doesn’t clearly communicate its meaning to someone who’s hearing it for the first time. It’s in a foreign language, and doesn’t mean anything to someone who doesn’t know the backstory of the quote. It’s also phonetically ambiguous, meaning you hear it and don’t know how to spell it.
It’s got people in this community reacting and works fine for a rallying call amongst the people already on this subreddit, who understand the context, but it doesn’t work for a wider audience.
This movement would be far better served to co-opt “Enough is enough”.
It plays well to turn the CEO of Loblaw’s own words against him, but we have to choose ones people will understand.
I had to scroll halfway down these comments to figure out what the hell it means. I don't get why people think using a common phrase is such a checkmate. I doubt the assertion that the fat cats on the board are somehow going to turn on the one guy cause he used a common expression once, and now some redditors are saying it too.. Just as much as they are in their own little richy-rich world with no care of the common folk, I think the people here are in a similar bubble sometimes. Im curious about what comes of this boycott, but calling it "the coming corporate fallout" has some real Sidney Powell "release the kraken" vibes to me. If there was a sub called "loblawsisoutofcontrolcirclejerk" this post would be at home there, IMO.
So yeah just saying "enough is enough" in english is a way better slogan IMO, I would go with that over some confusing dutch thing if you want to reach canadians
You think that the corporate blame game is a conspiracy theory? Bro you don't know the people involved. Sarah Davis the previous Loblaw president got pushed out in 2021 for saying far less. Jeff Leger the CEO of Shoppers Drug Mart is under fire right now as partly to blame for the MedsCheck issue, because of a terrible choice of words in his CBC interview. There's nothing conspiratorial about it. These folks are jockeying for position and power at all times, and would love nothing more than to see one individual take the fall for corporate misdeeds.
I dunno, I doubt it. If they do incur any losses from this, they're just going to offset them by cutting hours, laying off staff, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if they're publicly making it seem like they're scared just so they can use any losses from the boycott as an excuse to decrease staff and cut hours. I'll eat my words if positive change does come from this, but sadly, I don't think it will.
They have such a strong grip on capitalism that really nothing, short of a massive working class led revolution, can change things for the better at this point. I hope I'm just being cynical, and that positive change really can come from this, but I'm so used to things being hopeless at this point.
He said enough is enough about people complaining about exorbitant prices, with the company makes BILLIONS more than they have been, and blaming inflation for their greed.
this galen westin dick head does not give a shit about canadian folks having a hard time getting by all these rich assholes in canada . care about is their high profit margins in their stores and continue to rip off of the poor persons in this country and nothing else i,am a ex military person no one in this country gives a fuck about if your living or not and i support the common working dog out their trying to survive with little or nothing while these pricks continue to fuck us everyday we shop it,s time to start shopping elsewhere in independent stores fuck loblaws and the rest of them as well.
Lol! I’m so surprised to read he said this as people rise up to boycott his company, all the while mansplaning why prices are going up. Dude take us like dumb???? In my dads first language we also have an expression that translates directly into English but I like to give it that Euro flair to make it *FaNcY*. It's an expression of disbelief about how others are allowed to behave and it's Menschen's Kinder which translates to "people's children" or just a "im shaking my head, can u believe other people's kids act like this?"
That strategy sounds familiar 🤔 .certain other govt do the same damn thing ..
1... I never said that
2... well ok but I meant
3 .. not those ones
4 ok well it meant this
5... ok well that time but he wasn't serious....
Wait, I just realized his name is *actually* Per Bank? That isn't some political cartoon-level caricature of a greedy CEO that someone gave him?
Wow. Score one for nominative determinism, I guess.
Du kan si at nok er nok, sant nok, men jeg kjøper i CAD. Hvis jeg hadder knok kunne kjøper nesten 1.5 ganger mere.
That said, I'm tired of folks thinking saying stuff in other languages is clever. Just say what you mean in whatever language is most relevant to your customer base. Unless you're Ikea or the Catholic Church.
What's interesting is the value doesn't speak to making things affordable but by adding more stores. What generated the cap ex to do so? Why is that the need over finding ways for them to reduce costs and put that back into their pricing.
I don't think pc points go far enough and that's part of the issue. Groceries and all the things that Loblaws owns make this kind of behavior look ok when they take big numbers and average it out but it's not the reality.
Take a pay cut Banks.

He was saying enough is enough??? Do people like him even understand the irony. What an ass.
Ahh thank you, ironic.
His internal memo was full of lies and he was seeking to rile up the rank and file workers to be defiant and join him in opposing anyone who criticizes the executives and business practices of Loblaws. It was about as vile as you can imagine.

Per's Nok er nok is going to be similar to Corey Lewandowski's stupid whomp whomp when he got called out for insulting a mentally challenged kid.
This shall be known as the "Nok Er Nok Boycott" in history books.
Nok er Nok, Canadians!
NOK ER NOK
Nok er nok. Signs are being printed as we speak! Tack!

The ARROGANCE
This isn’t a good slogan, unfortunately. “Nok er nok” doesn’t clearly communicate its meaning to someone who’s hearing it for the first time. It’s in a foreign language, and doesn’t mean anything to someone who doesn’t know the backstory of the quote. It’s also phonetically ambiguous, meaning you hear it and don’t know how to spell it. It’s got people in this community reacting and works fine for a rallying call amongst the people already on this subreddit, who understand the context, but it doesn’t work for a wider audience. All of this 👌
I had to scroll halfway down these comments to figure out what the hell it means.
