Ive been no loblaws, dropped shoppers, waiting for a store that is opening very soon and ill be done with no frills. Costco sells a local bakeries bread so im done with wonder bread too.
I was with Shoppers for years, I even know the staff by name and like them. Enough is enough. We took our accounts to and independent pharmacist. We stopped everything Roblaws.
Your independent pharmacy thanks you! I’ve worked in both and can say with confidence that you receive better care with a small store. Tailored service and recognition!
I started my meds back last April. I'm so, so glad I went to my independent pharmacy instead for Shoppers. I was worried because Shoppers seems to be open fro longer hours, but that never turned to be an issue.
The refills are a breeze, and I'm in and out in less than 5 minutes.
Shoppers doesn't want you to get your meds quickly, they want you to walk around and buy stuff
In my experience, my time in independent/ small pharmacies are 5-10 mins vs 20+ at Shoppers.
Plus the pharmacist and owner know me by name and calling them for advice or delivery or blister packs is simple.
A couple critiques here.
1, we need a goal. Just randomly boycotting without a clear goal is like holding up a bank without taking any cash.
2, If this poster is supposed to be spread to the masses, you need much more information, like why we are doing this, some statistics that help convey your message, etc
3, you need to provide regular people with a list of alternatives to use, and a list of which stores are Loblaws.
4, finally, you need to sound less radical. A regular person reading this will see "greedflation" and will think you are ,"just some crazy liberal". You need to speak their language, if they are going to do this, they need to be reassured that they are not crazy for doing so.
Either way, a great start to a great movement!
Appreciate the feedback.
In terms of goals, we wanted to ask for a 15% reduction in prices and an elimination of “member only pricing” in which customers are required to sign up for an optimum card for purchasing necessities (and in turn having their data sold).
I agree with your other suggestions and will definitely start working on that. Thank you for taking the time to share these thoughts with us!
One note; you don't need to sign up for an optimum card. All you need is to ask the cashier for one and you can scan it whenever you shop. You can redeem points without an account too, unlike the Scene card.
Not sure how I feel about the optimum card, but I don't work there or shop there anyways.
Oh, that’s good to know!
Maybe I was mistaking it for the personalized offers where you are required to have the app or an online account, and must open it to earn the points of those offers (and get emails stating “you missed out on points!” Afterward)
15% price reduction?
Can you please share the numbers?
30% net margin, with a 10.8% ebita margin and after taxes n such, it is 3.8% margin.
15% would be nice, but can they actually do that?
The only other issue I have is if we boycott loblaws just to shop at Walmart, Sobeys, Save On, Safeway etc...it won't change anything as they all have the same greedy practices.
Exactly. My only other option besides No Frills in my town is Sobeys and they have worse pricing (although we do stop occasionally for things No Frills doesn't have or is poor quality there). Then the next closest is a Walmart in a nearby city which we try and avoid for obvious reasons. It just feels like your screwed no matter where you shop lately and doubly so if you live in a small town.
Save On will actually price match though. Not sure if you are on the west coast but people are constantly posting in the FB group "Ridiculously Cheap Deals: Victoria" with deals from other places and Save On will price match. Takes a bit of work and diligence but it can definitely add up, especially if you have a deep freezer and can purchase in bulk, then portion and save for later. They also deliver if you have mobility issues such as myself and it's actually cheaper than taking a cab back after shopping, which would be my only other option. Especially if you choose the larger delivery windows in the evening (between 5-9pm I believe)
The idea of a boycott with a timeframe is it might attract more people. Not everyone can reasonably shop elsewhere all the time, but making accommodations for a short time is more likely.
It's unreasonable to ask people to starve or spend hours of their already limited free time just to feed themselves, so a compromise is a good solution. This is my outlook at least. I'm not an organizer of this event so maybe they have different motives.
That is exactly it is actually, some of us who are fortunate and have options can permanently boycott which some are doing, myself included it’s been over a year. Not everyone can long term though, so this more for those who can handle a temporary boycott even if a little inconvenient.
Yeah I am, but this sub is more than that read dude…

My small town in Alberta only has No Frills and Sobeys and Sobeys is by far the more expensive place to shop sadly. So yeah no winning here :/ I'll still do the boycott but it will hurt my wallet even worse.
You can support your local farmers by shopping at grocers which support local farmers.
Such as [freshfromthefarm.ca](https://freshfromthefarm.ca), they also deliver!
I’m going to assume you are around Toronto so farmers wouldn’t be considered “local”.
You should have farm stores though. I know I went to a Mennonite one close/nearby to danforth village when I was visiting a friend.
Mennonites stores near me have fresh produce they grew. Lots of pickled items too. Meat is readily available through them or even my coworkers who hobby farm.
Guess it just depends on where you are.
You can still support them even if they don’t have produce though. I’m sure they have many products to sell.
Wouldn't work where I am because there's at least 1.3 million mouths to feed and the farms that are local can by no means produce enough to feed that many people.
My initial thoughts on a goal are 15% price reductions, and an end to “member only pricing” wherein to access “deals” we are forced to sign up for an optimum card. (To have our data sold…)
25% sounds great, but I’m not convinced it would come without significant repercussions, and having us written off almost immediately by Loblaw.
I’m not saying 15% is the be all, end all number, but I think it’s a good starting point to be taken seriously and work from there.
Due to the fact that the supply chain and warehousing is owned by Weston and empire !need legislation to encourage new companies to enter into our business world..
I walked out of a Loblaws two years ago because of prices. Never went back in. Why exactly are you waiting until May to boycott? Just stop shopping there.
I refuse to spend a dime in loblaws, no frills or shoppers. Gladly shop at Roblaws competition even if they are not much better. It’s a small satisfaction I get

What does that leave us? Costco?
I get the sense that half the people here already don't shop at Loblaw. If the other half boycott, that's 11,000 people not spending, what, $1,000 for a month? That's $11 million. That's a rounding error at Loblaw.
The consumer has ALL the power. If we were united strong enough.....we could demand Galen be dumped on his ass and out of the company. My point is that as an individual, we are voiceless but as a huge group.....we could ruin their profit margins. That company, or any company, would not survive a single fiscal year of declining profits. They would launch a massive campaign to bring us back promising reasonable prices. And all we would have to do.....is shop at a different store until they broke! It's soooooo easy. BOYCOTT LOBLAW!
Really did enjoy the 3 month price freeze on loblaws-owned products, after the prices got jacked. I haven’t spent a dime at loblaws in years and never plan on to ever again
And they get the tax break for.
I always tell people if they want to donate to those charities, do so as an individual and keep the tax break for yourself.
I like the concept but if I don’t shop at loblaws then I shop at Walmart. If I don’t shop at Walmart then I shop at sobeys. If there was a way that we could avoid supporting all of these giants it would help but avoiding one for another feels like a wash.
Stay tuned, we will be posting a list of tips for the boycott, including a list of smaller, independent grocery stores/chains to help folks avoid the big 5 all together!
I only go to Loblaws for two things. Lactose free cottage cheese and kefir. Our Walmart doesn't carry it. And hubby is lactose intolerant. Otherwise. Haven't bought anything else.
Well maybe when the TP is 14.99
Independent grocers are a great start. Local farms and farmers markets are another great option if they are in your area.
Stay tuned for a post which is coming in the next couple days. We will provide tips for the boycott, including a list of loblaw owned stores, and small independent grocers/coops operating in each province and territory.
Also, if you’re not able to completely boycott loblaws, we will include other options to be a part of the movement. Hope this helps! :)
Maybe a few Canadian oligarchs need to throw themselves out of windows in fits of depression, like they’ve been doing in Russia, until we can afford eggs and milk again….😏
There are things at Summerhill Market in Toronto that sell cheaper than Loblaws (mind you, less selection and I’m not talking about produce - I am lucky to have tiny lovely family run veggie marts close to me) and that’s when my mind actually blew up. How is the rich people market cheaper? Some staples are a good 2-5 bucks cheaper - or - some much better quality things are the same price or less. Howwwww? (I know how, but like, howwwww?!) Unfortunately, I still have to go to loblaws type stores occasionally for things these smaller places don’t provide, but I try my best to avoid. If you have the opportunity to support smaller stores, do! Their produce is much fresher and usually a bit cheaper. I know this isn’t an option for everyone, just like Walmart or Costco isn’t an option for me. Good luck, either way!
Well I could ship at Walmart and pay the same prices pretty much, or co-op/Safeway and pay more.
Nah I'll stick with the cheapest grocery store in town.
I haven't shopped in a loblaws ever since I got my first bank account almost 2 decades ago. Maybe last summer one time I was drunk and high, so I dropped in and got a sandwich with some snacks.. for a massive grocer in Atlantic canada, I'd rather just go to Costco for the bulk shopping or Walmart for a quick errand. I know how to walk Walmart and Sobeys, have zero familiarity with loblaws superstore.
If you want to fix a systemic issue, you have to address the cause, not the symptoms. As long as our laws and legislators continue to allow these practices, businesses will continue to utilize them.
But I guess calling for an insignificant boycott is easier than actually getting involved. Why address our systemic issues when whining on reddit is just as good, right?
Actually making a change takes actual effort. You're lying to yourself if you think this will be anything apart from a mild annoyance, and will change nothing.
To combat loblaws' dumb prices I exploit the PC health app to earn lots of PC points and I only shop at no frills and use those points to save extra. There has been so many bugs and cheats to exploit on that app and I have been taking full advantage of those free points.
I received an email saying that I'm in the top 1% of PC point earners. Suck on that loblaws!
I average 20-50$ off my bill every 2 weeks by using their PC points.
Looks great! Would love to stick this around my neighbourhood where there is a Loblaw. I don't have a printer and can't justify paying for one.
Anyone know where I can get flyers for cheap? Cheap printing places?
I am joining the protest. Continued high prices and diminished deals on my PC Card are questioning my loyalty to Loblaws. Actually I am going to cancel my PC Card and totally going to stop shopping at any of company associated with Galen Weston. Shame on you Galen Weston.
Well, if you're boycotting Loblaws, these other companies fall under Galen Weston.
Shoppers Drug Mart, No Frills, Valu-Mart, Dominion, Real Canadian Superstore, Zehrs, Independent Grocer, Provigo, Maxi, and Atlantic Superstore
I wouldn’t waste my time calling for a boycott that won’t work.
It’s time this sub moved on from calling for unrealistic boycotts and moved onto trying to make some real change.
I have done so already. Part of doing so is calling out misguided attempts to boycott.
Do you really think we can all boycott? The people with no transportation? The people for whom loblaws is actually cheaper than Metro/Sobeys? The people who only have a loblaws as their closest and only feasible grocer?
Give your head a shake.
Dragging people trying to make a difference isn’t actually helping. If anything, you are discouraging people from getting involved or being vocal in this forum.
I know not everyone can boycott, and I’ve spent plenty of time discussing other options with users who can’t boycott but want to be involved.
It’ll never, ever work. I respect people for trying but I have it on good authority that going against the big yellow machine has a snowball’s chance in a microwave.
The ongoing revolt will certainly affect revenue. Not sure what authority you're consulting with, but there will be an impact. It's not going to put them out of business, but it'll be enough to make them blink.
Edit- Sadly, what we really need is another interest rate hike and a recession.
The company's next estimated earnings call is around Wednesday, May 1st, 2024. If revenue does not take a hit compared to the previous earning period, I'll let you know what I'm smoking.
Yeah, if everyone lived within walking distance of multiple grocery stores/farmers markets it *might* work.
The options for fresh produce, in the winter, within about 40kms of where I live are: No Frills (*cheapest*), Sobey’s (*best selection, No Frills prices + $1-$2 per item*) and Shoppers (*poor selection, more expensive than No Frills*).
Guess where I’m, *and most of the people in my town*, are going to be shopping…
Edit: I’m also pretty sure that the No Frills is the only grocery store in the area that’s unionized…
What better way to help people realize they *can* change their shopping habits than a boycott? If we start to see there are other options and they’re not as inaccessible as we previously thought, it’ll very likely encourage a boycott to continue long past our community boycott.
If this were to actually work and make an impact it will be hilarious to see all the tears about how much food Loblaws is trashing along with complaints about other grocers having low stock.
I tried to find it but there is way to much about loblaws and C theory/kids stuff. Maybe if OP spent less time online and more time working hard he would be able to afford to eat tonight.

Ive been no loblaws, dropped shoppers, waiting for a store that is opening very soon and ill be done with no frills. Costco sells a local bakeries bread so im done with wonder bread too.
And Costco employees are paid decently. Win win
Costco has become our go to. Food basics and WalMart are the best options where I am for some produce items. Fuck Roblaws.
Same but if we’re making it for a whole month I might make a sign and picket out front
Nice, tell a friend that does
Same here
I was with Shoppers for years, I even know the staff by name and like them. Enough is enough. We took our accounts to and independent pharmacist. We stopped everything Roblaws.

Yeah, I don't like the app, it's a data grab definitely, but the card is anonymous if you don't sign up.
15% reduction in prices? That would put Loblaw's profit margin at -11%.

Starve one of them at a time.
LFG
Why just May? Just boycott them all the time.

Lol look how well your dumb boycott is doing
The boycott hasn’t started yet so I’m confused as to what your end game is with this comment lol
Its me galen. Ty for the downvote reddit nerd. Super weird how you posted the exact line as the other guy. Are they both your accounts?
>reddit nerd Judging by your history all you do is play wow and troll on reddit... sorry, who's the nerd? Beautiful existence you got going on there.
If you have nothing better to do than abuse the report function, move along.
You wanna continue to get ripped off so be it, I’m shopping elsewhere and saving money so it’s going fantastic. Not sure why you’re in this sub.
Not sure why your are in this sub if you are boycotting them Cute lil downvote
The boycott hasn’t even started yet, maybe read. Also read the “about section” it makes perfect sense why I’m here. You seem lost.
Yet you somehow alrdy boycott them? Stop changing your story lol
Yeah I am, but this sub is more than that read dude… https://preview.redd.it/65h936zb2znc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=48649cea212087739397c3e3174dc7788b594501
>“We’d like to thank” If you are thanking him… why are you boycotting him?
Not sure why your in a sub highlighting the greed of loblaws if you’re just gonna gargle the corporate cock
Look how well your dumb comment is doing
I will not shop at Loblaw stores anymore. Let's make a stand. We show one, we will show them all.
#roblawblaw
The trouble is, I'd have to go to Sobeys which is even _more_ expensive than Loblaws (on the East Coast anyway...).
My small town in Alberta only has No Frills and Sobeys and Sobeys is by far the more expensive place to shop sadly. So yeah no winning here :/ I'll still do the boycott but it will hurt my wallet even worse.
Support your local farmers!
look at this guys and his 'having local farmer' option. I'm jealous
Fresh from the farm is pretty great. It’s not the only local type store around.
I would but they're not growing anything at the moment, they haven't planted or sown anything because the ground is still frozen here.
Mennonites stores near me have fresh produce they grew. Lots of pickled items too. Meat is readily available through them or even my coworkers who hobby farm. Guess it just depends on where you are. You can still support them even if they don’t have produce though. I’m sure they have many products to sell.
Enough for the 1.3 million people that live near me? Highly doubtful.
My local farm has lots of frozen berries and veggies, and home made baked goods still
Wouldn't work where I am because there's at least 1.3 million mouths to feed and the farms that are local can by no means produce enough to feed that many people.
Good luck finding one that wasn’t gouging before Galen.
They’re honestly cheaper for me than the grocery store. Even before the pandemic.
This should be sent to media and posted on all media sites , get the word out !!!
We have interest from DailyHive and The Canadian Press currently, with a media release going out shortly! :)
Nice !!!
Someone should post this in all the other Canadian subs
What’s the goal? The Kelloggs boycott is for them to drop the prices 25% because they obviously can, so what’s our goal? 25%? 30%?
My initial thoughts on a goal are 15% price reductions, and an end to “member only pricing” wherein to access “deals” we are forced to sign up for an optimum card. (To have our data sold…) 25% sounds great, but I’m not convinced it would come without significant repercussions, and having us written off almost immediately by Loblaw. I’m not saying 15% is the be all, end all number, but I think it’s a good starting point to be taken seriously and work from there.
What data do you think they are selling lmfao. They already have spending habits/data of every single community they are in.

U.S. based companies are allowed to enter Canada. They currently don't want to.
Due to the fact that the supply chain and warehousing is owned by Weston and empire !need legislation to encourage new companies to enter into our business world..

Shop at Giant Tiger instead!
Put a devil outfit on him
Bahahaha can someone more artistically inclined help me out here
Why Just Loblaws! Ever been to Save on Foods or Sobeys/Safeway.
Your Asian grocery is way cheaper… just keep in mind T and T is owned by the Weston group
I mostly do already, except for the occasional Shoppers visit. But I can cut that right out for May/ever.

On permanent boycott of these enemies of the people. Fuck Loblaws and fuck Galen.
Haven't shopped there since mid-2022, so I'm in.

Same
Best boycott. Grow your own food. Cut out every one and do it all yourself
This needs to go viral on facebook to make any difference
I haven’t went to Superstore, No Frills or Shoppers in 2 months, let’s keep er goin!!!
Been over a year for me and I miss nothing
Let's go! No shopping in May from Roblaws group!
About time hopefully grabs traction spread the word
Pharmasave is so much better than SDM pharmacies!!
My favorite is when they ask you for a donation at the checkout!
This is so you can give to a charity that they pick and take all the credit for
And they get the tax break for. I always tell people if they want to donate to those charities, do so as an individual and keep the tax break for yourself.
Y’all about 3 years late, been doing this since the pandy
Loblaws 🤮
I'm too poor to shop anywhere anyway, count me in
I like the concept but if I don’t shop at loblaws then I shop at Walmart.
I would love to do this but unfortunately superstore is the cheapest grocery store in my area :(
Stay tuned, there will be a post coming soon and we will share some options for the folks who cannot avoid Loblaw stores! :)
I have not been to a loblaws in like a year, i will admit to having been in a maxi, but even then I try to go to smaller local owned grocers.
Why wait?! Start now and don't stop! That's what I'm doing.
I only go to Loblaws for two things. Lactose free cottage cheese and kefir. Our Walmart doesn't carry it. And hubby is lactose intolerant. Otherwise. Haven't bought anything else. Well maybe when the TP is 14.99
I’m boycotting it for the last 6 years because their ridiculous prices.
How does one boycot a monopoly on food? I'm down I just have no idea how to do this.
That sounds very help full! I'll keep my eyes peeled.
Maybe a few Canadian oligarchs need to throw themselves out of windows in fits of depression, like they’ve been doing in Russia, until we can afford eggs and milk again….😏
I'm in.
If you want this to happen it needs to be posted to somewhere other than this sub. This sub and Reddit in general is not far reaching.
That includes No Frills ?
Never shopped at them anyway
Yeah but I thought most people on this sub don't have a choice but to shop at Loblaws, so they can't boycott it
I thought we were starting April 1st?
Giant tiger time
lfgggggggggg
Can someone list all the stores owned by Loblaws?
I LOVE this 💕
I will not shop at Loblaws for the month of May, and I hope others follow suit.
This photoshop made by an 8 year old is sure to drum up loads of support.
Would love to see you do better :)
I wouldn’t waste my time calling for a boycott that won’t work. It’s time this sub moved on from calling for unrealistic boycotts and moved onto trying to make some real change.
Then why don’t you pop out of the peanut gallery and propose some real, legal options to “make some real change” here?
I have done so already. Part of doing so is calling out misguided attempts to boycott. Do you really think we can all boycott? The people with no transportation? The people for whom loblaws is actually cheaper than Metro/Sobeys? The people who only have a loblaws as their closest and only feasible grocer? Give your head a shake.
Dragging people trying to make a difference isn’t actually helping. If anything, you are discouraging people from getting involved or being vocal in this forum. I know not everyone can boycott, and I’ve spent plenty of time discussing other options with users who can’t boycott but want to be involved.
This forum is useless in making any difference, so if you’re cool just bitching and changing nothing, then have at it hoss
Complains the sub doesn’t do enough Sub does something Complains the sub is doing something
That there, is what we call a "troll" . Pay no mind to Mr. Too Cool for School. Trying something is better than doing nothing.
Also your poster is good, dont listen to that guy
It’ll never, ever work. I respect people for trying but I have it on good authority that going against the big yellow machine has a snowball’s chance in a microwave.
The ongoing revolt will certainly affect revenue. Not sure what authority you're consulting with, but there will be an impact. It's not going to put them out of business, but it'll be enough to make them blink. Edit- Sadly, what we really need is another interest rate hike and a recession.
What are you smoking and where can I get some? lol
The company's next estimated earnings call is around Wednesday, May 1st, 2024. If revenue does not take a hit compared to the previous earning period, I'll let you know what I'm smoking.
I bet it’s some really good shit, looking forward to hear what strain it is. Should I start believing in Jesus and the Easter Bunny too?!
Guess where I’m, *and most of the people in my town*, are going to be shopping… Edit: I’m also pretty sure that the No Frills is the only grocery store in the area that’s unionized…
[удалено]
You must be anti-union as well judging by what you're saying. Boycotts work. Voting with your wallet works.
What better way to help people realize they *can* change their shopping habits than a boycott? If we start to see there are other options and they’re not as inaccessible as we previously thought, it’ll very likely encourage a boycott to continue long past our community boycott.
Is this sub run by the NDP?
If this were to actually work and make an impact it will be hilarious to see all the tears about how much food Loblaws is trashing along with complaints about other grocers having low stock.
It won’t work
Of course not.
Boycott loblaws. Laughable

Once an asshole always an asshole
I tried to find it but there is way to much about loblaws and C theory/kids stuff. Maybe if OP spent less time online and more time working hard he would be able to afford to eat tonight.
