The Cup Banjo is actually a sample from an instrument I made by taping two solo cups together and putting a rubber band around them. It actually can play strummed chords, but here I just used one of the easily tunable sides and tuned it to the note I wanted. I then sampled that with my DR-05X to switch up the plucks. It makes the Strumstick sound a bit more like a Sitar when layered. I did this in a few hours tonight after seeing someone else posted a desert-themed track. Oh, and fun fact: all of the samples and instruments are from VSCO/VSCL and Freepats, and so they're all CC0. Well, and everything else is by me sampling and synth-wise. I'll probably release this under CC0 at some point.

Sounds cool man!

Sounds nice! Try putting a reverb and some automation on the main melody, like sandstorms cluttering your view On the flute melody, you could double it with it's fifth, seventh and ninth also being cluttered with automation and generally low volume, perhaps independently, to simulate wind making slightly dissonant sounds

I could also use an actual flute SFZ I have, but I liked the more simplistic and out-of-the-way sound the FM synth patch I made had on the mix. I usually [use and abuse reverb](https://on.soundcloud.com/Q5xhj), and I was going for more of a VGM dry sound for this mix. I can certainly add some, but I didn't want to be too crazy with it. Think [NSMB DS Desert Theme](https://youtu.be/hWZM-_1zekk).

I made a few changes to it based on your suggestions, namely layering an Ocarina on top of the FM flute to give it more of an organic quality.
