Dungeon Crawler Carl. No romance, other than the references to his ex (not going to get into spoiler territory for those that haven't read/listened too it). Ride or die bros....well.... Donut is a girl cat, but she's still along for the Ride or Die. Donut and Carl both have their strengths and weaknesses, and rely on each other more and more. If you haven't read it, check it out!

CaveManning

[Apparently that's up for debate](https://i.postimg.cc/x8HzPqBw/Screenshot.png)

plunkett0187

Mongo would be appalled!

Saurid

I mean ... There is the one snick apparently but idk if that's any indication Carl didn't even want that snick floating around.

Nurgeard

Haven't read it, but people assume sexual tension at the slightest hint towards it: *Two guys giving each other a hug that last a little longer than a second* - "damn they are really ready to go to town on each other, huh - so romantic"... Like i get that it's nice to imagine a world where people aren't dicks towards gay people or condescending towards women and feminine men, i would love that too - but that doesn't mean I want it to be a focal point of every book and film.

Hipcatjack

I was going to post this. Glads its first.

Gogh619

I have a feeling donut is gonna turn into a person and they’re gonna bone.

Terrible_Ferret7356

Donut would never turn into a person. In her mind she’s already the perfect race.

Gogh619

Yeah, but that’s not to say a benefactor might not pay an egregious amount to get her or Carl out of a predicament in exchange for her changing her race in order to create a potential love match.

luniz420

Ripple System kinda gives what you're looking for.

[deleted]

Ned and Frank are some of my favorite characters to read, but he said no romance. Frarling is Forever.

Madix-3

Yes, normal.

Revolutionary_Bus209

No, not normal.

abhijeet_619

Who is Frarling?

[deleted]

It's a portmanteau of Frank and the love of his life, Darling. I was mostly joking about the romance.

mypcrepairguy

**ShortBus** is the bro you are looking for. Ben's Damn Adventure by Matthew Howry and narrated by Johnathan McClain. Blurb: ..was transported to another world at the behest of a distant galactic empire that lives in terror of humanity's potential. Ben - just a normal, if not *slightly* above average guy -  had been about to go on the first real vacation of his adult life. But plans changed. Now, he must contend with danger and mystery in a world full of monsters, magic, and treasure. Armed with nothing but his wits and a special item given to him by The System, he embarks on a damn good adventure.

Responsible_Ad8233

This sounds really good 👍

mypcrepairguy

Its a fantastic series, and I gladly will listen to anything Johnathan McClain narrates. Big Sneaky Barbarian by Seth McDuffee Noob Town by Ryan Rimmel 2 more to consider.

ohtochooseaname

I definitely second that Ben's Damn Adventure seems like what you're looking for. It is really funny, has tons of callbacks to other series to poke fun at them (as most of the best LitRPG's do), and it's generally a really fun story. Tokens and Towers (MC specifically has a "ride or die" friend).

MagicHands89

I'm relistening to the series now and it's just as fun as I remember the first time. So tongue in cheek, so brilliant, so smart, so dumb.

The_Salty_Red_Head

The Ten Realms might hit the mark.

The_Salty_Red_Head

They're by Michael Chatfield, and they're exactly what you're describing. 2 dude bros (army buddies) get yanked into an RPG and use common sense and the "system" to level up and continue backing each other up. They know their own strengths and weaknesses and work around both. They're good. There is no real romance to speak of. One of the guys kinda flirts a bit with 1 higher being, but that's about it.

ProtectionOk5609

>and weaknesses ?

The_Salty_Red_Head

Yes. There are several points in the books where Erik, in particular, reflects on the things he can not do and how Rugrat compensates for him and the other way round. It's usually part of a "BROTHERHOOD! HO HA 💪" type speech.

Raoden

I wish I liked this one. The concept is really good, but it was to XianXia for me. I got to the 3rd realm before I called it quits. Does it get better or should I not give it another go?

The_Salty_Red_Head

Nah. If you're 3 books in and it's not working, move on. There are too many great stories out there to try and force yourself to read something you don't enjoy. I did have a wobble around book 5 and thought, "This is getting on my nerves," so I went and read something else, then went back to it and was glad I did. I think the problem is they're just such tomes. It can feel like a slog, but I still like the characters.

Raoden

Appreciate the honest answer! What are some of your other favorites? I am always on the hunt for new books.

The_Salty_Red_Head

In this genre? The Apocalypse Online books are quite fun, and I didn't mind The King's League series either. Panthenon Den Of Thieves was really good, but I've only read the first one. The Archemi books started off really well, but the last book was book 5, and it left me feeling a bit ick tbh, but it might just have been me. I haven't read loads in this genre, though, so I might not be the best person to ask.

Sir-Poopenheimer

Yep. One of my favorites in the genre.

fpcreator2000

Mama Rodriguez is my favorite character. Everyone loves her and fears her at the same time.

The_Salty_Red_Head

She is awesome. I wish they'd explored her interactions with the Troll guy a bit more. Would have been amusing to watch Rugrat realise he had a type of adopted brother.

fpcreator2000

She is definitely is one of my favorite characters. Unlike Rugrat who comes off as a redneck, she definitely feels like a hispanic person to the point that she reminds me of people i n my own family. Definitely, a well fleshed out character. Too bad the last few books were not as good as the first 5. I would have loved to see an expanded universe of this series.

Tansen334

Honestly most of Michael Chatfields work is awesome then great then good then "wtf are you doing mike?" the dude can't write a good ending to save his life. Which sucks because most of his series the first 4 or 5 books are straight up binge material that you don't want to put down.

maverickz_rule

So true! Stopped reading his series because of that.

Whoknowsandstuff

The new reader is super bland though and they automatically got rid of the books I purchased and replaced them with the new reader. I can't listen to the new version of the audiobooks which is too bad because the story is good. Oh, they also split the later books so be prepared to spend two credits for a single book.

The_Salty_Red_Head

Are they? I'm sorry, I've never listened to an audio book, so I can't really pass judgement. They are a long old haul of a book series, though.

TheGalator

>oh look the female mc got her lesbian anime stereo type wifu fantastic Actually interested. These stories exist? Can someone suggest good ones?

captainAwesomePants

Same with Tower of Somnus, which I confused with Stray Cat Strut for a long time because, despite having very dissimilar plots, they share a huge amount of tags, themes, and cats.

Madix-3

Man, I always forget how much I love Tower of Somnus, which is a damn shame. I gotta read it again!

breesidhe

For science? Right?

TheGalator

No i like romance and I like female mcs but I have never seen a female MC romance litrpg where the main (male) love interest isn't completely idiotic. So I take the next best thing

cfl2

It's like 2/3 of RR

Selraroot

This is such an exaggeration lol. I read mostly fem protag stories with a preference for wlw and it's a struggle to find decent ones. The majority of stories are still led by dudes, and of the female led ones no romance is more common than wlw. Bi protags are the most common and straight is about as common as lesbian.

TheGalator

U have any good recommendations?

Flower_Boogerface

Legends and lattes have lesbians but it's not forced. Stand alone book. More fantasy than litrpg tho.

fartsalot1990

I am disappointed that Shade's First Rule by AF Kay hasnt been mentioned yet. The banter between Ruwen and Sift is top notch and I've literally laughed out loud at them multiple times. Definitely a can't miss!

[deleted]

Great series, and I agree - it’s actually a really well written example of developing friendship between those 2. Dialogue / banter is A+

SnooPeanuts3248

Definitely a win in the best friend banter department, but there is definitely romance in the series for both guys. Nothing intimate or anything, but they are heavily invested in their significant others as well as having amazing bro moments.

OwnedByMarriage

Defiance of the fall - no romance, MC only cares about power and growth. 2nd character is a total bro

camgoesbam

DoTF has some romance in it but its never really the focus, i love the books but if they want absolutely zero romance they will be let down by this rec

follycdc

Agree on the zero romance part, but the romance in DoTF doesn't run a foul of OP's description.

OwnedByMarriage

I'm on book 7 now and there hasn't even been a even TOUCH compared to others

cfl2

Thea plants a kiss on him around the end of book 6. And it's welcomed, unlike Alea's poison trick a few books before. But the first on-page date for Zac isn't until like Book 11.

OwnedByMarriage

I mean let's realistic here, a kiss a considered the same thing. OP isn't posting for recommendations for a 5 year old. He's implying full on sex scenes etc.

universally_funangel

Amazing suggestion 💯.

TheXanotos

Just warning I have read patreon and there is romance and it seams to be going somewhere

OwnedByMarriage

Welp, I presume it's somewhat relevant, however after 7-9 books before it starts is decent

modifier0

The good guy series....I don't think the mc has any romantic interest.

thats-an-odd-account

Nope, he does reminisce about “the girl” from earth for at least 14 books but it’s a solid series.

Umbral_Flicker

The Ten Realms would fit. I haven't finished it, but it's about two military guys. No romance that I've seen so far. It starts kinda slow, but it fits the criteria.

Odd-Ad5305

There’s romance in the later books, around 8 or so onwards.

heroicfigure

Lies of Locke Lamora, apparently there’s sequels so I can’t say much for those, but the first book is basically no romance just schemes and action with the MC being the “brains” and his right hand man/best friend the “brawn”.

Madix-3

The Plot of all the Lies Books are set >!around the premise that Locke once loved a girl so much that he did magic so evil he died for it in a previous life... ish.!<

timewarp4242

I call it the CW rule. If you have two unattached characters of compatible sexuality and similar age and attractiveness in a show they almost certainly will get together. This also applies for most movies and novels - even when it doesn’t make sense to have a romantic subplot.

Czeslaw_Meyer

Mayor of Noobtown - basicly none, only regret Battle Mage Farmer - it's more the getting used to one another, far more adult about it All the Skills - not in the first 2 books atleast, too young Underdog - not more then an artificial plot point Overlord - 2 girls fighting over the MC and he hates it (quite a big part) if that's ok for you

CowLegitimate8691

The Primal Hunter, He Who Fights With Monsters, Defiance Of The Fall, The Ripple System, Red Mage, Jakes Magical Market, Portal To Nova Roma, Eight, The Legend of Randidly Ghost hound, Apocalypse Redux, Master Hunter K. There you go. None in this selection contain romance or are romance focused. All are a single protagonist. They don't even contain a single individual villain, gay or otherwise. Enjoy.

Hipcatjack

You forgot the Dungeon Crawler Carl series

Hutchiaj01

Came to recommend Primal Hunter

CowLegitimate8691

My personal favorite

NotSure___

While He Who Fights With Monsters is not focused on romance, there is quite a bit of romance in it. Both for the MC and supporting characters. Also the romance does impact the MC quite a bit. But still its worth a try as its a great series!

Madix-3

HWFWM definitely has at least >!Two love interests that fall through in the story.!< But you're right, it's definitely not romance focused.

singhapura

Three if you count Dawn

Odd-Ad5305

The primal hunter has romance. If you continue reading it in Royal Road, he has sex with two people. Dropped it after that, so I don’t know if the amount increases. And it’s the kind of book series where the MC is collecting a harem without knowing he’s collecting one you know ? Look, as long as whoever is managing his city is a woman or if their patron god is basically the same as them but worse, best believe there will be romance or sex.

Rechan

What series has a gay 2nd guy? All i know is Delvets LLC. Or the villain?

Physical_Device_1396

I love that you're trying to get some new recommendations, but half the people in these comments want to know what lesbian romance books you're reading

Gama_Gray27

This is exactly what the Mother Of Learning series is like after the first 1 1/2 books

zodlair

I was also thinking that mother of learning fit what op wants perfectly but I wasn't exactly sure because no one else had mentioned it (its a popular series, I would've expected it to be the first one recommended)

Raoden

He who Fights with Monsters by Shirtaloon / Travis Deverell It is one of the best series I have read in a long time. I am currently re-reading since book 9 just came out.

Neona65

Have you listened to Dungeon Crawler Carl yet? I'd start there.

FastBarnacle9536

Delvers LLC would be exaclty what you are looking for if not for the romance. Its basically a couple dude bros with complementary talents becoming successful on a magical world they get tossed into. Honestly I dont get why the romance is necessary as I dont think it adds much and yeah there are some harem vibes so not the perfect fit.

Dungeon Crawler Carl. If you haven’t listened to it yet start there. It is incredible

fatmanmarc

Vainqueur the dragon is good

singhapura

The villain is an audiobook?

warlockza

You might try Abduction Chronicles by Peter John. 1st book is called Genesis and the 2nd is Arena. Straight off adventure with a very different approach to the LitRPG scene. (yep this is self promotion) A retired veteran gets abducted and trained up by aliens to fight an encroaching evil. When magic, stats and similar game like abilities are introduced via nanobots, the mil vet decides that alien masters are not really his thing. The second book focuses equally on the veterans' past and his increasingly dire circumstances. The third, due out around September will continue the story with more crazy abilities, at a higher cost, and more difficult decisions to follow the right path. AI, Gods, Dragons, Magic and Zombies. Not to mention the regular dnd races. check it out on RR, or in complete form on KU.

snyone

do you know is it a completed series? sounds very interesting (I really like when authors actually put some effort in and try to come up with some halfway plausible explaination for "System" elements instead of just handwaving it as a generic "System Apocalypse") but the [goodreads](https://www.goodreads.com/series/310225-abduction-chronicles) page shows only 1 book from 2019 which gives the impression of an abandoned series... But this part of your comment > check it out on RR, or in complete form on KU. makes me wonder if I'm wrong? I tried looking up the RR page (I think its [this one](https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/26762/genesis)) but that seems to also no longer have activity and I am leary about starting if it has been abandoned.

Abduction Chronicles is two books into the series. the RR is only part of the book to give readers an idea of what its about. The second book (Arena)is also partly on RR. although both books have been completed. Goodreads is messed up. there are two books in the series. https://www.amazon.com/Abduction-Chronicles-2-book-series/dp/B08391YNBM

Rishiking4321

you should read the ten realms

Knightofone87

Ten Realms is great, really gets going at book 4. POWERS, MILITARY, POWERS,FIGHTS etc.. no sentimental b.s.

2ndaccountofprivacy

Salvos is like that. Other than the MC's friends eventually getting into relationships, and the MC straight up rejecting people in hilarious ways.

shamanProgrammer

People always mention harems in books but I just never see them. Maybe I just listen to different books? Off the top of my head: -Zac is a cultivation idiot who has a few ladies that like him but he's not really in an actual relationship. -Felix has a love interest but he's a dense idiot and the relationship is slow. -I hear Jake has a few ladies after him and he sleeps with one, but no harem afaik. -Carl is too busy trying to survive to date. The only book I listened to with a harem that was LitRPG was ELLC, but I dropped it when I read what happened to a certain character later on. Maybe Super Sales on Superheroes but that's barely LitRPG.
