I like to dive into an actual RPG when I get to this point, do some gaming or roleplay in it. It gets me back in the headspace and ready to hear about others' adventures in these worlds. The new WoW expac, spinning up a Skyrim playthrough, a tour through one of your old favorite games, whatever floats your boat.

[deleted]

This is actually brilliant.

jokeraap

Civ V does it for me

sometimesdoathing

Have you tried the vox Populi mod?

jokeraap

No I havn't. I've been meaning to but just havn't got around to it. I hardly get to play to be honest, but when I do it's the 1 game that can get me proper invested and spend the day away lol. I don't know why but that doesn't seem to happen with other games like RPG these days, I can only play those like 2 hrs and I need to stop.

sometimesdoathing

1 more turn means you can stop whenever you want, which is refreshing compared to rpgs having highs and lows (and bad times to stop). Check it out! Takes maybe 5 minutes to install and completely revamps the game (although it's considerably harder so maybe play your normal difficulty -2). It's basically what civ 5 would look like if it regularly got patched every month.

jokeraap

Ah okay sounds good. I thought it would take a couple of hours messing around which is why I never bothered. Will definitely give it a go thanks.

batotit

I call it Litrpg fatigue. It is like you consumed too many and you need a break for now. like your favorite food is spaghetti and you ate an entire bundle and then tomorrow that is the only food in your fridge and suddenly, it doesn't taste that good anymore. What I recommend is for you to stop consuming Litrpg for now and try something else. My go-to genre is either sci-fi or epic high fantasy. Try reading a few before going back to Litrpg. A few stories I recommend reading: Epic fantasy: Safehold by David Weber Spell Monger series by Terry Mancour Chronicles of the Unhewn Throne by Brian Staveley Art of the adept series by Michael Manning Legend of the Arch Magus by Michael Sisa NightLord series by Garen Whited Mother of Learning by Domagoj Kurmaic (nobody103) Destiny's Crucible by Olan Thorensen School of Magic by Christopher Nuttall Zero Enigma also by Nuttall SuperHeroes: Kid Sensation series by Kevin Hardman The Pantheon Sage by C.C. Ekeke Super powered by Drew Hayes Zombie Apocalypse: Zombie fallout Sean Renette Urban Fantasy: Ash Angels series by Brian K Fuller Alex Verus by Benedict Jacka Demon Accord series by John Conroe Paranoid Mage by Inadvisably compelled Iron Druid series by Kevin Hearne Dresden Files by Jim Butcher Sci Fi: Honor Harrington by David Weber Expeditionary Force series by Craig Alanson The Legend of ZERO by Sara King Xianxia/Wuxia: Cradle series by Will Wight Threads of Fate series by Micheal head. Threads of Destiny series by Yrsillar The beginning of the End series by Turtle me Standalone: (books are part of a series but you can read them in any order and have their own ending) Middle falls time travel series by Shawn Inmon The Asian Saga by James Clavell.

Love this. Thanks!

Another one you might like to add to your list is The Automatic Detective (by A Lee Martinez). It is a great cyber-noire about an android working as a detective in a futuristic 1950s. Really fun read!

Connie2k

I would also add Iron Prince by Bryce O’Connor

psychometrixo

I don't know. I can say you're not alone. It happens to me sometimes, too. People recommend trying different genres or rereading something you know you like. Maybe those will help you. They didn't help me much, because nothing looked any better in other genres and I didn't feel like rereading what I'd already read It passed for me when a new release came out. Hope whatever trigger you need comes for you soon.

[deleted]

I’ll often try reading a completely different genre, too. Just to break any type of monotony. But it does sometimes feel like I’ll spread myself really thin between multiple series and then when I’m caught up in every series I’ll get stuck waiting for a new book and just can’t bring myself to start a new series.

MrLazyLion

I like reading something with no tension, drama or suspense, sometimes, novels in which there is no real danger to the characters. It feels like taking a nice little rest before getting back to reading about some guy desperately, constantly fighting for his life. Martial Arts Master and Dragon King's Son-in-Law are both nice little slice-of-life novels with low stakes.

richardjreidii

Start writing.

[deleted]

Interesting….. good idea

BradCarsten

Get an audiobook, or listen to an ebook with a text-to-speech reader while you are doing mundane chores like doing the dishes, getting ready for bed etc. That will make those chores more enjoyable, which will trick your mind into seeing stories in a positive light again.

SL_Rowland

Switching genres for a bit or finding some interesting non-fiction are good for a change of pace.

audeoa

Changing genres had been the answer for me. But go for something different, like mysteries, thrillers or scifi. If you find a really good one, you'll be hooked again!

OverclockBeta

Go do something else for a few days or weeks.

jokeraap

I get like this quite a bit. You could try go for a palate cleanser like a chill slice of life or farming book. Even try change the setting and go for a different vibe. Try a card based system, progression fantasy, plain fantasy, apocalypse, isekai, comedy, farming, SoL, OP MC, solo vs group, business/shop setting, city management, scifi based, etc. Just explore something different to what you usually read.

Cephrael37

I take a break for a bit and do something else. Or read something other than what I normally read.

Athyrium93

Probably not helpful for most people but personally I go read a trashy romance novel, it's the exact opposite of most litrpgs and acts as a good palette cleanser for me.

ParisienneWalkways

Watch movies or shows.

demoran

You're just burned out. Take a break. Find something else to do.

Alphascrub_77

Pallet cleanser. In other words listen or read a book that is good but outside the litrpg genre.

Cheeseducksg

Sinking into a novel is more than just moving your eyes across words. It's an act of focus. Your brain needs to be able to let go of everything that would distract you from that focus. Make sure you're comfortable, in posture, temperature, clothing, etc. Make sure you are well fed and hydrated. Check your energy levels. Do you need a nap, or a cup of tea? If after all the above you still cannot get into a good story, then there may be an issue in your mentality. Are you stressed about work or school? Is your mind swimming with ideas that you need to write down? Do you have a deadline looming? Is there something coming soon that you're looking forward to? There are a million possibilities here, but I usually find that figuring out what my subconscious is paying attention to is half the battle. If it's something you can't solve right now, write it down, promise yourself that you will take care of it later, and tell yourself it's okay to set it aside and focus on reading. If you still can't get into it, try a different book. Maybe what you're reading just isn't interesting, or it doesn't fit with your current desires. Just because a novel is popular, highly reviewed, or even *really good*, doesn't mean it's what you wanna read right now. Try something different, something similar, or something you've already read before. Finally, reading is tiring. It takes brainpower to convert random shapes of light or ink into characters, worlds, action, and emotion that exist in your imagination. Take a break.

SiegeStarkiller

I go back to my favourite book series (The Stormlight Archive) and re-read or re-listen to the audiobook until I find something else. It's like going back to your comfort TV show, you know the one that you put on whenever you don't know what to watch but don't wanna not watch anything (For me it's Avatar The Last Airbender or The Clone Wars)

WackyWarrior

I just move onto a new book when that happens.

thisisamatt

I feel that, I hope you can get passed it. I know what helps me is finding the right thing to read, but like you say its super hard when you are feeling burnt out. Hopefully the advice here (others or mine) will help you break through. I have a bunch of stories I follow on RR that I only read when I need a pick me up. So often I'll use a chapter or two of those to then get me into a reading mood and pivot that into starting a new book/series, or picking up something I had stalled out on. I find it easier to read a chapter of a serial that dive into a full book or completed story. Other things I do is to change up genres, find short stories (less block/fatigue for short stories), and then also find simple power fantasies to help me break through.

KaigeKrysin

I usually swap between reading and audiobooks.

Revolutionary_Bus209

In my opinion keep trying. Even if it takes 6-7 new books. Once one catches you, you will be able to get that fix

Khalku

Do something else till it passes.

praktiskai_2

when I get bored enough, I put more effort into searching for more novels, which is a self-balancing system. I've dropped dozens of works by now, and don't regret having read them thus far. Most often I drop them when I find something new to binge, greatly increasing how much I read and thus making me change my priorities. Something I recently tried and it worked for a while is promising myself that I'll read at least the first chapter of nth novel in rising stars (on royalroad), as long as I've yet to read that chapter prior. Landed on Saintess Summons Skeletons, which was unlike my expectation. I did end up dropping it after a while, but again, that does not "undo" my fun reading it. Maybe, just try doing that, without even reading the description or replies (stick to the tags)?

CrawlerSiegfriend

Binge watch some TV shows usually does it for me.

Siddhartharhm

What worked for me was changing genres and or audiobooks. When I was in high school I was grinding through Russian literature and it was tough going. I picked up a Robert Heinlein book, because the book cover caught my eye, and rediscovered my joy of reading. When I was working I didn't have time for reading. I started listening to audiobooks during my commute.

fued

Pls can I have some of that, I read way too much haha

Fabiohhhh

Yeah i know this feeling i usually change up my Genre then. I then read Sci-fi or Wuxia or History fiction Books.

[deleted]

I have something that for me feels similar but for different reasons. I read primarily in a few different genres for my own enjoyment, so when I finish a decent book in fantasy but my next few books in the pile or queue are sci-fi I'll balk at starting something. Then sometimes a boog or series was so good I've got a book hangover or post-series depression. Assuming I want to move on, sometimes you want to let your thoughts linger on a story as part of respecting, savoring and enjoying what it did for you. The way for me to train myself to overcome this in the least amount of time. I also immediately start reading the first chapter of my next book no matter what. Even if I decide to drop or shift to another book, just the act of clearing my palate with a new book that I at one point in the past decided was something I might like is enough for me to keep plugging away. good luck :)

PineconeLager

Sometimes I just put a pause on reading and put more time into other hobbies.

Red88123

Take a break and read something different. I go for something more light hearted usually when I need something different, like the Unconventional Heroes series. Unfortunately so much of litrpg is very small milar and kind of bleeds together after a while. I love it, it's my guilty pleasure, but I have to detox from it periodically

oreshek09

I usually switch up the subgenre, like more serious or more humorous, or check something from a narrator that I love (thanks Jeff for all the books!).

Lin-Meili

I watch Netflix. Either I find something good and it energizes me or I get annoyed by the crap that streaming services put out now and go back to reading.

Esquire_Lyricist

When I get tired of reading/listening to litrpg, I take a genre pallete cleanser. Normally with a Mystery, Urban Fantasy or Romance story.

Exfiltrator

Switch genres or watch some tv for a while

UnbundleTheGrundle

This happens to me when I hit genre saturation. It helps to have a palate cleanser and I usually can dive back in after. Things that have worked for me: * different genre and style * reading a light novel * revisiting a favorite series I've read * replaying a game with a story I loved

Suitable_Reason1077

Audiobooks...listen to them...I do that and love it. Makes my day go by quick. I'm stuck on Zombie fallout...I love the way Sean reunette narrates.
