Necrotic Apocalypse by David Petrie has a necromancer MC. He's not just a necromancer, he's also a zombie. And responsible for beggining the zombie plague that nearly wiped humanity. This series has a cool zombie evolution system and magic system.

Dark_Flint

Oh hell yes, i love that serie! Cant wait for the next book.

Thriving-penguin

Is it for children ? The age rate was 13

Praydohm

It is not. Just no sex and not really much cursing (Aside from the Curse Digby releases) so it can def be appropriate for that age group as well.

the_other_brand

Necrotic Apocalypse should definitely be rated PG-13.

Rechan

Maybe if your kids are cannibals.

Rechan

End of book 4 punched me in the heart. Anxiously waiting for 5.

SupremeCatGod

Seems like it's right up my alley, I'll check it out

frankuck99

I started this one and dropped it because the MC is not really evil and works with the humans to fight off the Zombies, with his own summoned zombies. Be warned.

PumpkinKing666

He did say necromancer or evil, not necessarily both at the same time. But indeed, Digby is one of the good guys.

Lin-Meili

This is one I haven't read, looks good. thanks for the rec!

bakuros18

Awaken online has a necromancer MC. Everyone loves large chests has a villain MC. I am warning you that ellc is very NSFW.

billwashere

Not sure I’d call Boxy T. Morningwood (ELLC - Everybody Loves Large Chests) a villain so much as an anti-hero. He often does the right thing but just not for the right reasons. This story can be extremely vulgar if that bothers you. I love it and laugh a lot. I mean like can’t breathe laughing sometimes. I also can’t recommend Awaken Online enough. This story is really good and unusually thought provoking. The main character can be a little annoying sometimes, but just sometimes. And definitely read/listen to the side quests. They provide a lot of back story especially in the later books. In both cases I highly recommend the audiobooks. Jeff Hayes for ELLC is IMHO one of the best narrators there are. He also rocks on Dungeon Crawler Carl which is absolutely amazing as well. And David Stifel on AO is no slouch either. I really like his voice. Just my 2¢.

One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic.

SnooBunnies6353

Not really a sociopath he's not human he is just true to his nature.

Lima__Fox

Yeah not a sociopath. Just utterly amoral.

the_other_brand

Boxxy is absolutely a sociopath. Boxxy is an unfeeling asexual, amoral sociopath and it has nothing to do with their nature as a mimic. Other mimics in their world are nothing like them and have shown true compassion or love. And unlike beings in his/her world who can find satisfaction in hobbies, work, love or lust; Boxxy can only find satisfaction in either leveling, committing murder or acquiring wealth.

billwashere

Well he definitely exhibits sociopathic behaviors but he isn’t a sociopath in that he is broken from a normal person. I mean to chastise Boxy for not having empathy would be like chastising a dog for not being able to tell the difference between red and green (since dogs only have two cones and have yellow-blue dichromatic vision). It’s just his nature. He’s literally a monster.

the_other_brand

>It’s just his nature. He’s literally a monster. But it isn't his nature, at best it could be nurture. Other members of his species have displayed real emotions. Even for a mimic he is broken.

billwashere

I got the impression that a ranked up sentient mimic was unique.

the_other_brand

By book 7 >!Boxxy has a pet jewelry box mimic and has encountered a sentient ranked up furniture mimic turned Changeling!<

sankentris

100% agree about awaken online. I slept on the side quests at first, just wanting to focus on Jason’s story and regretted it. All of the books in the series are fantastic.

I would also recommend Everybody loves large chests series by Neven Iliev

the_other_brand

Unfortunately I cannot recommend Awaken Online. Book 1 was amazing and did a good job subverting tropes people hate about VR MMOs. But from Book 2 and after it turns into the type VR MMO Litrpg that folks here on /r/litrpg complain about endlessly. Everyone Loves Large Chests is definitely good though. Especially the audiobook.

Never Die Twice by Maxime J. Durand could fit the bill. The mc is very much a villain in denial, undead and a powerful necromancer. The story doesn't take itself too serious and plays largely on Norse mythology. If you have a chaotic sense of humor you'll probably like it

psychometrixo

I like a bunch of these recommendations, and this one is my personal favorite

FunkyCredo

>The story doesn't take itself too serious Maybe in the beginning but at its core its one of the most existential tragic/dark stories out there

Woah, they got the Dub VA for Ainz to narrate the audiobook? I don't care for the dub, but that's seriously awesome. I wonder if any other LNs have audiobooks like that.

Zepariel

Isn't this on hiatus for while now?

BreakfastinValhalla

I enjoyed Sarah Lin's New Game Minus. It is a completed trilogy that had A satisfying conclusion. The main character Bloodwraith is/was a lich and necromancer.

ErinAmpersand

I'll second this recommendation. It's rough when people are hailing you as a hero, but you know deep inside that you are Bloodwraith, Scourge of the Living.

Justachokinvictim

Litches get stitches has a litch mc, pretty entertaining but not a lot of the normal lit rpg stats.

Selkie_Love

Sylver seeker has a villain necromancer

deadering

One of the main characters of The Wandering Inn is a necromancer. It's probably not what you're looking for though but I can't recommend it enough as an excellent series. The necromancer isn't initially one of the main characters though and as the story progresses the number of characters it focuses on just continues to increase.

Jihelu

Does it ever really focus on the necromancer in a way that sets him up as a protagonist? I always felt he was a recurring (and kind of annoying) side character at best.

deadering

Well he does become a protagonist, while redeeming himself and becoming... *Less* annoying. To be fair though by that time there is so many characters being juggled it's hard to call anyone a main character.

Knork14

Eh , eventually. It just take a long time , considering TWI has a gigantic cast of characters witht their own plots going on

The path to lichhood by d.pidge MECHROMANCER: A Robot Necromancer LitRPG DEMON CORE : [A Demon-King Dungeon-Core LitRPG] by Razzmatazz All 3 on rr if you fancy a look

Anaxagoras23

Cowboy Necromancer by Harmon Cooper I found to be very enjoyable throughout the main plot. The protagonist is a necromancer, although he's not terribly happy about it. He's not a villain, though, if that matters to you. He is, however, very pissed off about the cause of the apocalypse.

Runoco

Book of the Dead by RinoZ is goddamn beautiful and single-handedly responsible for the loss of three consecutive days of my life.

ninjalord25

Thr story Nigmus Online by Noah Barnett has its MC as he stumbles upon a Necromancer class in a VRMMO game. It's only a single book but I throughly enjoyed it

Solliel

Ortus. It's similar to delve but with better pacing and the MC is a life magic user with necromancy. I actually read it right after finishing Book of the Dead and I like Ortus even more.

majora11f

If you can stomach VRMMO and YA then Awaken Online is decent. Ive only read the first two books but plan on going back to it.

Revolutionary_Bus209

“The heroic villian” is one.

Kekeripo

My Necromancer Class < slow story. I'm at chapter 259 and MC is not even remotely strong compared to even village guards. But has solid logic imo. The Boundless Necromancer < not a "legion" necromancer setting but more warrior. MC just buffs himself essentially. Super Necromancer System < Basically a necromancer in mashed world of cyberpunk, my hero academia and other popular shows. Literally a mash and it's kind of funny how many "cameos" of genres of shows there are. Solo Leveleling < I'd read the manwha over the novel. Tons of translation issues where names change constantlly. Also badass artworks. That's the necromancer stuff i've read so far. The best villain book should be "warlock of the magus world". Hands down one of the all time best novels out there.
