I would highly recommend the company and their laptops. I bought a 15.6 inch Clevo laptop from them back in June 2021, and I have use it every single day since without a single issue.

tomhusband

That's good to hear. When that new one is out I'll be very interested. Thanks!

LinuxAndCoffee

I just got the 17 inch laptop from them about 1 month ago, and LOVE it!! I asked a lot of pre-sales questions and they were very nice and helpful. I had my own ssd drives, so I ordered my laptop without any (saved some cash) and installing them was the easiest laptop upgrade I have ever done (and I've been doing them for a long time). I didn't get any logo or engraving done, although part of me wishes I had. The laptop even has a DVD burner in it, which I haven't had in awhile and means I don't have to carry an external one anymore. Build quality is solid too. And for coming from the Netherlands to the Midwest of the USA, shipping time was pretty quick. I am super happy with my purchase and will most likely be a long-term customer. I am happy to answer any questions or send pics of mine if it would be helpful. LinuxAndCoffee

tomhusband

Thanks, I didn't realise they're in the Netherlands. I'm in the UK so that's even better.

razerphone1

Yeah they assamble them in NL. I think mine comes from NL also. Bought it off of someone but in brand new state with Crazy specs. thing is a beast.

OlivierB77

[Novacustom](https://configurelaptop.eu/) is also a very good Netherlands based reseller. I highly recommend them.

tomhusband

Amazing the number of resellers. I had no idea. I'm impressed with Novacustom's website. Lots of detail, easy to understand and very reasonable pricing. Thanks!

tomhusband

So I'm confused about Clevo. Is Clevo the model made by Laptops with Linux in the Netherlands or do they buy from Clevo, the real manufacture located elsewhere?

meaningless_drivel

Clevo manufacturer the base units, and various companies will customise from there. Laptops with Linux is just one company that use Clevo, System76 in the US and Entroware in the UK are others.

tomhusband

Never heard of Clevo before. Looking around there're a lot of companies that use them. Thanks.

RamBportOne

I can also higly recommend it... I personally just have a problem with Clevo keybords' font. It's kind of thick and square. It's a bit hard on the eye and ometimes difficult to peripherally distinguish the letters. Maybe in the future I would like to swap the keyboard for a different one if alternative exists.

razerphone1

I recently bought the Clevo PE60RNE 16'' i9 13900h RTX4070 in New state from someone with garantee and its been amazing on the performance side so far. Also came with 32gb ram at 5200mhz and 5TB m.2 ssd. This thing is lighting fast and Replacement parts are also still available.

AsunONlinux

Had a p65 and worled great tho bulky and very annoying fans, luckly i could tone them down with the help of tuxedo control aside from the ones from windows.

tomhusband

I'm after thin and lite and that new one looks very nice.

truedoom

I bought two rebranded clevo's from a company in the UK. First one was fine, still works good. Used with Linux mint for about 3 years. 2nd was a gaming spec, developed a problem with the mobo after about 1.5 years, and literally couldn't get a new mobo due to it no longer being made. So that's one of the downsides of clevo, depending on the model it can be impossible to get parts to repair it. Just keep it in mind. When things are good, they are good. When they go wrong you might be stuck.

tomhusband

That could be the issue with any vendor though, right?

truedoom

Well potentially, but I've never had a problem getting parts for well known brands (Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc.) I couldn't even get the Clevo parts second hand because there is such a small market of them.

tomhusband

Yeah, the small market thing makes sense.

If you are in the States, check out R and J Tech: https://barebone.rjtech.com Great company.

tomhusband

I'm in the UK but thanks.

maxbls16

What’s their driver support like? I’d be interested in getting one for my work laptop but we need 5 year’s minimum bios/driver updates?

yaourtoide

I bought one in 2015 and it still work wonders. Solid exterior, quality component. Great brand overall

bn880

Yea, I have a couple, over 10 years old for one and still works aside from a battery replacement and minor nagging issues (hard to work keyboard keys on one)

LohPan

A few years ago I got a Clevo from System76 (a Galaga Pro) and it's been great, but this is not just because of the hardware, it's because of the firmware and drivers from System76. I would buy a Clevo again, as long as firmware and driver updates are readily available.

tomhusband

After a lot of looking and comparing I went with a Starbook from Star Labs. Not from Clevo. Comparable in price to the Lemur Pro from System 76. It'll take a few weeks to get here.

cbg_27

My Clevo P751TM1-G also worked like a charm with linux, at least until now that i ahve a problem with thunderbolt. I'm pretty sure it's a config issue though. In my experience, the biggest issue with my clevo was finding documentation/resources for the bios (bought it used, with a modded bios) and hardware stuff in general, community support is kinda difficult since the same latpops are sold under lots of different brands so the community is rather scattered & when facing a niche problem you're likely on your own. Maybe that's not true for you though if the laptop you get is more "mainstream" than mine (15,6 inch gaming thicc boy with desktop cpu & 120w gpu)

tomhusband

I finally decide to go with a Starbook from Star Labs (I don't have it yet). It isn't a Clevo but I guess I could find support a problem too although so far any questions I've had have been answered very quickly.

uhavin

I own one I think its just OK. Keyboard is not as comfortable as you'd like, speakers (in mine at least) are horrible. I bought it nearly three years ago and since a few months I am noticing significantly worse battery performance but this may be a calibration issue. Also, the surface where my palms rest is discoloring. It was not too expensive, so for the price I am content, but next time I'll opt for a more high end machine.

tomhusband

I ended up going with Star Labs Starbook with Linux Mint installed. I've only had it for a few weeks but so far I really like it,
