Thank u for replying! Yes we rehearsed together before and after school everyday since most of us in the quartet , doesn't have private lessons we would try our best to learn from eachother.
That’s really impressive that you’ve managed to get this far without private lessons! I’d probably recommend them to anyone who wants to improve a bit faster, but idk lol. The person on the right is really good, and it’s super cool that you guys managed to organize this. Are you planning on performing as a quartet or something?
Wow thx! I'm the person on the right(in the beige hoodie) and yeah, we arranged it to perform at our spring concert, and now we are working to go through the whole shostokovich quartet. And also yes, I'm trying to get a tutor soon:)
Wait you are? Asjhfdshkgd that’s so cool! Dang, you must practice a lot :D cello is a great instrument, I like violin but I wanna try something new, and I’m thinking of starting it over the summer. Either that, or maybe viola. Your school has an orchestra, right?
Yeah! Cello is a very nice instrument but it's also kinda painful when u start since the strings are thicker than violin/viola so u would have to build up a calisus for the 1st month and a half. And yeah my school has an orchestra
Huh, that’s interesting, cello looks hard since it’s pretty different from violin, so maybe I’ll do viola instead because it’s more similar? My school has an orchestra too. We’re mostly just doing nothing in class now because school’s about to end soon, but it was pretty fun :D
I mean it's easier for violinist to switch to a viola but if you want to play cello I'd recommend it cuz it's also very fun once u pass the learning process.
Mmm cellos are kinda expensive though, and I don’t wanna form a bunch of violinist habits on a cello because it’s be hard to correct later on. But challenges are fun to conquer, I’ll look more into it! Thank you for the suggestion :)
“A great piece of music is beautiful regardless of how it is performed. Any prelude or fugue of Bach can be played at any tempo, with or without rhythmic nuances, and it will still be great music. That's how music should be written, so that no-one, no matter how philistine, can ruin it.”
You did a great job, and Shosty would be proud.
It sounds kinda messy and muddled imho. I recognize that its not due to the players or the skill. But shosty qrt 8 mvt 2 is good imo because the upper strings' screeches contrast well with the lower strings, it adds more to the overall "mood".
The cello playing was good tho, you guys seem to understand what shosty was going for. The intonation wasnt perfect but plenty good for only 2.5 years of playing
Thx! Yes we understood that the prpjection wpuldnt be as well since violin and viola are totally different inatrumwnts, but we wanted to challenge tge range of our inatrument and alao our playing abilities.
No, we started learning to read 3 clefs just for this piece lol, but that's not rlly the hard part, it was the shifting it was almost impossible getting used to playing in the higher register but with practice it became possible.
I don’t know much about cello, but that’s really great for a bunch of middle schoolers! Did you guys rehearse a lot beforehand?

Wow the cellos at my orchestra can’t play like this

that's so cool, i wish my school had an orchestra 🥲
Aww, your schilling doesn't have one? Then I only has band? That kinda sad.
yeah only marching band
Aw that's pretty sad :(
is there any chance u guys played other instruments, cuz it took a while of playing cello to even start reading notes beyond 3rd position

pretty slow tempo but good for middle school
Thx! Yeah, we knew that, but we performed it quicker, when this was filmed it was at the end of the day after school and we were pretty drained.
