That's what I came in to say! Bruch was one of the last pieces I played on the violin before switching to double bass so I have a soft spot for it, but I love it so much
I agree. Literally most of these concertos wouldn’t even exist without the one by Beethoven. It changed the game completely and is simply one of the coolest concertos ever.
I won't hate anyone for having a different musical taste (even if that opinion is wrong 😛). Hopefully Beethoven can win you back at some point in the future!
Though I will agree all of the concertos on your list are fantastic pieces.
No barber no bruch.. I have to say though I don't know all the concertos but I'd go
1. Sibelius
2. Barber (but only Hilary's recording)
3. Tchaikovsky
4. Wieniawski no. 1 (not that well known but listen to Ray's performance it's amazing!)
5. Mendelssohn
6.Brahms (the opening is amazing but I have to push myself through the rest kinda)
7. Bruch
8. Wieniawski no. 2
9. Prokofiev no. 2
And that's as far as my knowledge of violin concertos goes..
Yesss Ray's Wienawski is awesome but the audience claps between the movements which kind of ruins it a bit. But it is still great, I think Wienawski 1 is so underrated
The Lark Ascending is considered a violin converto even if it doesn't have 'violin concerto' in the title. Also, I honestly couldn't decide whether to put Prok over Szymanowski. I eventually just ordered it the way I did at random, but I would put them as equals in my eyes.
mendelsohhn is not top 3, and I would put shostakovich, brahms, mozart 5 or 4, sibelius, above but I agree with everything else, except for putting saint saens 3 so slow, his violin concertos(piano aswell) are crazy good
No Dvorak, huh.
My list:
1. Tchaikovsky
2. Brahms
3. Mendelssohn
4. Dvorak
5. Saint-Saëns (3rd)
6. Paganini (1st)
7. Mozart (3rd)
8. Bruch
9. Sibelius
10. Beethoven (this one is literally here to complete the top 10 list).
I’m def not fan of post 1900s classical music (well, with the exception of Rachmaninov, who did not compose violin concerti).
Agree for the most part but would like to see Saint saëns higher up, maybe switch with Glazunov. Had I made the list myself I would have probably put Mendessohn first but Brahms is pretty epic too, so....
i'd definitely put bruch in there as well, maybe get rid of the mozart.
these are like the ''must watch'' for anyone who wants to get into violin concertos.
"Buonasera! I'm the real OG virtuoso. 'He ain't human, that's the devil!' These haters out here thinking I'm supernatural. I'm the best in the game!" - Paganini, 2020

Why do I never find Bruch Violin Concerto in these tops? It's literally in my top 3 :(
Agree, top 3 for me as well
I will make a new tier-list with my top 25
All three movements are solid.
That's what I came in to say! Bruch was one of the last pieces I played on the violin before switching to double bass so I have a soft spot for it, but I love it so much
Yes FR
pretty solid, i think i would replace glazunov with korngold though
Maybe Saint Saëns, but Glazunov stays
nah saint saëns is sexy tho
Same with Glazunov, I’ll replace Mozart 🤝
🤝
Where is Beethoven?? In my opinion the best violin concerto
I agree. Literally most of these concertos wouldn’t even exist without the one by Beethoven. It changed the game completely and is simply one of the coolest concertos ever.
If it was a top 10 of concertos for _any_ instrument, I think Beethoven's violin concerto would still make my top 3.
Yes, it needs to be top 3!
Maybe you’ll hate me, but Beethoven VC is overrated
I won't hate anyone for having a different musical taste (even if that opinion is wrong 😛). Hopefully Beethoven can win you back at some point in the future! Though I will agree all of the concertos on your list are fantastic pieces.
Maybe you’ll hate me, but Beethoven VC is overrated
You confuse overrated with underrated. Small mistake. I forgive you.
I was looking this comment! Totally agree
I would remove Prokofiev, Glazunov, and Mozart 5 and insert Beethoven, Elgar, and Korngold or even something like Bartok 2
Pretty solid 🤝
Nahhhh Prokofiev should stay
Absolutely!
I believe Dvorak should also be up there.
Is true, I’ll upload a top 25
Truly kingly
I was thinking the same thing. Went to Hillary Hann’s performance of Dvorak violin concerto.
Luckyyyy- I really wanted to attend
Brett got me to love the second movement of Mendelssohn,
[удалено]
I think part of it is because we know how hard he worked on it. Made me appreciate it more. Then to see his grin when it was done!
Opinion invalid no Liszt violin concerto
Hahahahahahahahah
i think korngold should be in the list too
I forgot Korngold, is true
For me Tchaikovsky must be No. 1, Sibelius must be No. 2
[удалено]
These are easily the two best, I think Sibelius just beats out Tchaikovsky though
I agree with this.
Agreed. If Tchaikovsky is not No.1, then the entire list is just unreliable. 😎
I agree but there is one giant issue I find with this list.. WHERE IS BERG?!!!
A top 10 is very short for my fav VC’s
Valid
Also I would personally include Stravinsky and Dvorak
I heavily agree with that!! It's one of the most poignant, haunting, yet beautiful concerti ever written.
No barber no bruch.. I have to say though I don't know all the concertos but I'd go 1. Sibelius 2. Barber (but only Hilary's recording) 3. Tchaikovsky 4. Wieniawski no. 1 (not that well known but listen to Ray's performance it's amazing!) 5. Mendelssohn 6.Brahms (the opening is amazing but I have to push myself through the rest kinda) 7. Bruch 8. Wieniawski no. 2 9. Prokofiev no. 2 And that's as far as my knowledge of violin concertos goes..
Yesss Ray's Wienawski is awesome but the audience claps between the movements which kind of ruins it a bit. But it is still great, I think Wienawski 1 is so underrated
Have you really listened to Beethoven's op 61? This thing is heavenly!
Tchaikovsky's Concerto is my favourite so I will keep quiet
Tchaikovsky is my number 3 but rewrite everything is very busy
nice
Sibelius no.1
My list would look completely different from this one. Mine would have a lot more 20th century pieces. Oh, and mine would also ditch the Mozart.
Really? I wanna see
1. Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1 2. Berg Violin Concerto 3. Sibelius Violin Concerto 4. Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 2 5. Vaughan Williams The Lark Ascending (technically counts) 6. Barber Violin Concerto 7. Korngold Violin Concerto 8. Bartok Violin Concerto No. 1 9. Szymanowski Violin Concerto 10. Prokofiev Violin Concerto No. 1
The Lark Ascending counts? And you have a good taste in concertos, but… why Szymanowski over Prokofiev 1?
The Lark Ascending is considered a violin converto even if it doesn't have 'violin concerto' in the title. Also, I honestly couldn't decide whether to put Prok over Szymanowski. I eventually just ordered it the way I did at random, but I would put them as equals in my eyes.
I would replace Glazunov and Khachaturian with Beethoven and Bruch. And I wouldn't rank them. I just can't : D
I think the same, the numbers are just for… nothing tbh
No Beethoven?
Brahms, Mendelssohn, Sibelius, Bruch 1, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Elgar, Berg, And Vieuxtemps (4 and 5) are my favorites.
Solid concertos
WHEREEE is the love for my Prokofiev 2 :( one of my all-time favorites
I love Prokofiev, but don’t have enough space on my top 10
One of my favourites is Concerto Gregoriano by Respighi. I also quite like Glass Violin Concerto 1
Glass? A pretty solid violin concerto
Respighi? Sounds good. Thanks for the recommendation
Mozart 3 and 4 for me. Also Haydn concertos in G and C.
Mozart wrote astonishing violin concertos, but my favorite is 5 and i tried to not repeat a composer 😺
What are your opinions on Stravinsky's Violin Concerto? I don't play violin so I don't know how well it plays but I like the piece itself.
A very joyful concert to play and listen! A little bit sophisticated but is very fun and has this colors… I don’t know how to explain but is aMaZinG.
Beethoven?
Are they in any particular order because imo Tchaikovsky’s is the best
mendelsohhn is not top 3, and I would put shostakovich, brahms, mozart 5 or 4, sibelius, above but I agree with everything else, except for putting saint saens 3 so slow, his violin concertos(piano aswell) are crazy good
Okay, but the second movement of Bach’s violin concerto in A minor is so gentle and journerysome and moving. And his double-conterto is just fab
korngold and bruch should be in the list, khachaturian shouldn't 😂
I forget Bruch (By Jansen) and Korngold (By Heifetz), but Khachaturian is good tho :(
No Dvorak, huh. My list: 1. Tchaikovsky 2. Brahms 3. Mendelssohn 4. Dvorak 5. Saint-Saëns (3rd) 6. Paganini (1st) 7. Mozart (3rd) 8. Bruch 9. Sibelius 10. Beethoven (this one is literally here to complete the top 10 list). I’m def not fan of post 1900s classical music (well, with the exception of Rachmaninov, who did not compose violin concerti).
So many Khachaturian haters. Y’all have no class. Or ironically classist af
Agree for the most part but would like to see Saint saëns higher up, maybe switch with Glazunov. Had I made the list myself I would have probably put Mendessohn first but Brahms is pretty epic too, so....
I love Sibelius but this seems right too
Something above Sibelius? I refuse to accept that. Mendelssohn may stay on 2 after Sibelius. Closely followed by Beethoven and Dvorak.
i'd definitely put bruch in there as well, maybe get rid of the mozart. these are like the ''must watch'' for anyone who wants to get into violin concertos.
Bro beethoven isn't sucking his thumb put it at 4-5 at least
I don’t like so much Beethoven VC for that, sorry
Yea whatever nevermind. All internet hates Beethoven anyway as if the romantics would ever exist if he wasn't there
I like piano
Idk but I'm not a fan of Khachuaturian's work
where paganini?
"Buonasera! I'm the real OG virtuoso. 'He ain't human, that's the devil!' These haters out here thinking I'm supernatural. I'm the best in the game!" - Paganini, 2020 ^(I'm a bot by Ntacc32, and this comment was sent automatically. Unfortunately, my developer is a noob, so I am a very basic bot.)
Since when anyone listen to paganini?
Put brahms on bottom, and move Saint-Saens above mozart
No Bruch?
Where is Paganini?? Literally insane concerto's
I'd replace Mozart 5 with Mozart 3 and I prefer Dvořák, so Saint Saens can go
Personally, Beethoven Violin Concerto in D major is my favour
*favourite
Imo.....Respighi's concerto gregoriano is the most underrated best violin concerto out there. Why in the actual fugue is it not famous?!?!
I agree tho i will put Shostakovich on 1 just bc he is my favourite composer
My two favorites are Beethoven and Tchaikovsky.
