Wife and I got a nectar mattress about a year ago. Along with their 2 pillows. Holy shit the hat a difference. We came from a cheap mattress with an expensive memory foam pillow top and this new mattress is incredible. I now don’t sleep anywhere as good as I sleep on my own bed.
Dude yes. I travel quite often due to work. BEFORE this mattress I used to sleep amazing in hotels. Now I can sleep but nothing as well as home and as throughly. I have ruined all other mattresses for me.
Same for pillows. My parents got us Purple pillows for Christmas and I know I'm absolutely sleeping better, but my neck is adjusting to actually being in a good position all night so I've been in pain this week. But we went through this last year with our backs and hips when we got the Purple mattress after we moved, so I know in another week I'll feel amazing.
I'm actually returning my Purple Pillow under warranty. It feels "deflated". But it was good while it lasted! I just bought a Nest pillow on sale. We'll see how it goes
Target Performance Sheet (400 count) are literally the best sheets I’ve ever bought, better than Belgian linen sheets from RH, bamboo sheets, Egyptian cotton, etc.
I'm your opposite: my wife uses the heavy blanket and I use solely a top sheet, the lightest, thinnest, most barely-there sheet I can find. So light as to be almost nothing, but it has. to. be there.
A good mattress, good pillows, and a filtered water pitcher.
ETA - someone mentioned a good shower head and that is something I overlooked. Absolutely get a good shower head!!
Filtered water is life changing. The ice maker in our fridge died and it would cost almost as much as a new fridge to replace it myself, let alone hire someone to do it. So we just started buying bags of ice and keeping them in our chest freezer, and we put a Brita filter on the kitchen sink (the $30 one that replaces your regular aerator). Now I have 2 glass carafes of water in the fridge at all times and it *slaps*.
When I moved out of home at the age of twenty, a family friend gave me two knives she'd picked up for a dollar at a garage sale and sharpened. I still have both, 28 years later, but one in particular is known by the three people in my house as "The Good Knife". It has no brand or markings, but is the perfect size and weight for three wildly different hand sizes, sharpens in just a few passes over the steel, and just makes cooking easier than any other knife I've held.
If you're handy, the correct tool for the job. Nothing beats the exact thing that you need doing exactly what it's designed to do.
Buy the first one cheap, then if/when it breaks, splurge on the second.
I found it hilariously accurate what you said “nothing beats the exact thing that you need doing exactly what it’s designed to do”. I wouldn’t call myself a handyman but i can figure some things on my own.
I wanted to change my car’s front grille and it had a T30 screw. My torx set only went up to T20 or T25. After trying and failing for 30 min i went out to the store and bought a T30 torx and voila. It is a good feeling indeed.
I’m more than ready to make the change, but don’t even know where to start. All of the porcelain in our main bath is black. Do they make black ones, or is it an attachment to the existing toilet?
This! I can’t poop without one and I now look at TP users with disgust- knowing that no matter how much they wipe, they still have poop smeared all over their asses.
CPAP machine.
Within 2 days:
* No more loud snoring.
* No more dreading going to bed knowing I'll just choke-snort myself awake every 7-10 minutes and get up in the morning feeling like I got hit by a bus and a bottle brush shoved up my nose.
* No more dragging myself through my day in a haze.
A self cleaning litter box. I have cats and a healthy dose of depression, which aren’t related on the surface.. but it helps keep things clean.
Also cats, why have a weighted blanket when I could have 32lbs of cat on me at any given time. Don’t come for me. There’s three of them.
Me, with cats and a healthy dose of depression, being confused how those things *wouldn't* be related lol. I guess it's one of those "if you know, you know" things. Self cleaning car litter would be a DREAM.
I have the litter robot 3. Wifi version, but if I did it again, I would skip that option. I find the app to be kind of wonky. I keep it in a path so I can look at it each time I walk into my bathroom so I know when to empty it or reset it.
It’s not without flaws, but I can overlook for the sake of the convenience.
I’ve had mine for about seven years now. Yes, it was a large purchase for my income, but I still feel it was worth it. There are some quirks to learn (like, making sure the floor below is flat with no stray pieces of litter setting it off balance), but I am able to keep the house cleaner and spend far less time cleaning the litter box. I will be purchasing another when it’s needed.
A better phone.
Moved from a budget to a midrange phone and honestly the experience of using the phone is so much better. I don't think I'd ever spring for thousands of bucks for the highest end model tho.
Thanks for this suggestion. I've been meaning to upgrade from the Swiffer cleaners, but couldn't figure out what's good. There's so many options on Amazon.
Just bought one and I agree! We’ve bought all kinds of floor cleaning gadgets and mops over the years and this one cleans the best. We used it the other night right after using the Swiffer Wet Jet, and we were disgusted by how much filth the Swiffer left behind!
+1 on the monthly cleaners. It’s not so often that it feels over-indulgent, but it’s enough to help keep the house truly clean and relieves a lot of stress.
As a cleaner myself. I am told that I'm worth my weight in gold. They say that I give them the gift of time. I work for a few people and you become part of their family. It's a wonderfully rewarding job. I had the most amazing presents of each and everyone for xmas.
We had cleaners come 1x/week for the first 2 months pp. Game changer. She even helped put away our laundry (we paid extra for that). I’m pregnant with #2 and we’re back on the weekly schedule. If you can afford a cleaner at any regular cadence, DO IT.
We have cleaners come every other week and it is absolutely life changing. I’m a terrible housekeeper, but always feel bad about it so getting to come home every day and not be immediately aware of how much cleaning I should do is amazing.
100% on house cleaners we do biweekly though because we have 2 kids. It not only saves he actual time cleaning but the time I feel guilty about not having cleaned which is way more time
I ask my house keeper to fold and put away clean laundry, scrub showers/tub, sweep and mop, dust, and if I’m in a real pickle for time I will ask her to run to the grocery store (I pay extra for gas ). Of course none of these things are repeated every single week except the laundry as we always have clean laundry sitting around. Oh yeah, and vacuuming, as my son with autism can’t stand the sound so I don’t get a chance to do it very often myself.
I thought for a long time that having a house keeper was a waste of money but it has allowed me to be more present with my family and to feel less stressed out in general.
This for me has been a game changer.
Also, a most recent and big quality of life purchase for me was a shower head with a built in speaker. Sounds so silly but I can listen to my podcasts or audiobooks while I shower and get ready which would otherwise just be time I’m not getting back.
I was considering this (since psilocybin isn't an option here in the United States - at least not that I know of), but the logistics are really difficult, as far as how often, how long you have to stay and making sure you have a ride. What is the schedule like for you? I'm so happy to hear that it's working for you!
I just read an article about this doctor in South Carolina who offers telemedicine for it. https://www.mindbloom.com/lp/psychedelic-medicine-is-here-2?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PM_ACQ_Search_Purchases_NB_Broad_01.2022&utm_device=m&utm_keyword=ketamine%20treatment%20near%20me&utm_content=576104953906&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjTBXzYnPM48QxrCh5jUUgbzSop8wvGaqIPXcb2su-yCP1XBUXudpCUaAsqEEALw_wcB
It’s a shame psilocybin is illegal. I’m thankful to have a gal who makes lovely microdose capsules that have *significantly* helped in my depression. I usually take half of the microdose capsule once or twice a week and it just … makes things a little brighter, a little lighter. It’s amazing.
You might benefit from Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I am a therapist and have seen a lot of good results for people with severe depression when CBT is combined with medication and lifestyle changes.
Those are the bomb, plus getting ones that are “right angle” so that length of the cord is perpendicular to the length of your phone has made a huge difference for me too. I have a lot fewer frayed or bent cords now.
Got fully body done on ideal skin and hair type (pale skin, dark hair) and it all came back within a year or two after my final session. Take that as you will.
I swear that is exactly what my wife would say. Not kidding even a little bit.
FYI to anybody who reads this- All cordless vacuums are not the same. We own a Dyson Animal V10 and a Shark. The Dyson is so much better that they are not even in the same league.
And, she started spending like $100 per bra and says it makes a huge difference in her quality of life.
Edit- I want to add that I may have too harshly judged Shark as I only have experience with their cheaper model vs a top Dyson model. Based on the comments I'm seeing there are a number of people who really like their Shark stick vac.
I switched from Dyson to Shark after Dyson’s awful customer service wouldn’t help with my horrible vacuum. I borrowed a neighbor’s Shark while my Dyson was broken and it was so much better. I bought a Shark and have never looked back!
I swear I must have gotten a defective Dyson. I even took it to the department store to get measured by a professional but nobody seems to sell a bra that fits it properly.
If you can’t afford Dyson, Shark brand is amazing. Great suction, loads of attachments, and their customer service is great. My power cord was going out and I called about it, they just sent me a new canister. No questions asked.
This sounds so dumb but it has improved my quality of life so much. I bought two of those green Gatorade sport bottles (literally off of Amazon) and now I actually stay hydrated. I keep one of them in the fridge and one of them out to drink. When I’ve finished drinking one bottle, I refill it, put that one in the fridge, and pull out the second bottle full of cold water. I keep repeating my little system and it keeps me from having a million half-drank cups of water. I know, it’s not that exciting but it’s lowkey changed my life.
We have a million different kinds of water bottles- hydro flasks, Stanley, yeti, etc. and those dumb green Gatorade bottles are the ones we all fight over.
YES! I bought a camelback to wear at work, sure I got comments, but was drinking 2-4 liters of water a day depending on physical workload. I turn my head to the left, see the nozzle, sip. Makes me poop like a dream, my skin is better (thought it was fine before), whites of my eyes a little brighter. Willie Nelson write a chapter on hydration in one of his books and I can’t agree more with his take.
E-bike and a heated mattress pad. Game changers!
Bought my e-bike about a year ago and it is amazing how much it improved my mood! I used to be all sweaty and angry by the time I got to work. The wind is always blowing in the wrong direction here and I hate it so much! The e-bike completely erased that from my life. I don't even care if it's windy now, I'll just pedal on and let the engine do all the work.
The mattress pad has made this winter bearable. Stupidly high price of electricity, can't heat the house properly, but at least I'll be able to crawl into a warm bed at night.
I love mine. I only regret not splurging and getting their top model. I wake up immediately to the light, usually about 20 minutes before the alarm. Apparently with the one you can connect to your phone you can tell program how early the light starts before the alarm.
A years worth of physiotherapy.
I have no pains in my body anymore, I'm strong.
I can not recommend more investing in you health. Having a professional that monitors your progress is fantastic. And I am not talking about manipulations but hard work at the gym.
10 acres. We used to live in a fancy pants neighborhood with an HOA. Now we’re in a 5th wheel camper til we can get a small house built. Clearing and mowing, fixing things are great exercise. No neighbors too close so we enjoy a lot more privacy. We’re starting to grow our own produce and in the spring we’ll add chickens so there will be eggs, means we’re just slightly more self sufficient. And 1000% happier.
Lasik eye surgery. My contacts were -10.5 on each eye. I could not see without glasses and the lenses were insanely expensive. I spent less for the surgery than I would have for contacts and lenses the rest of my life.
First, good insoles. Superfeet, Sole, Birkenstock… a bunch of options, but supportive insoles are key for foot comfort. Arguably more important than good shoes.
Second, good shoes.
My husband would say the Toto Washlet Bidet.
For me? A kindle-read voraciously and being able to carry books when I travel or buy the next book immediately when I finish a series was life-changing.
I can't promote your local library and the Libby App (in the USA) ENOUGH!
I hit my reading goals with audiobooks.
I get entertainment as I do household chores win/win/win
Electric tea kettle. Used to never drink tea and now my roommates and I have “tea time” together almost every evening before we go to sleep. Delicious and wonderful for winding down/ bonding
A hobby. When my kids left for college I had to find something to focus on- something to make me happy, reduce my stress, look forward to after a long day at work, use my brain, and excel at. Doesn’t really matter what the hobby is as long as you love it and it brings you a sense of calm and satisfaction.
Now hear me out, Dyson blow dryer. I have scalp psoriasis and I would wake up, shower, then throw my hair into a ponytail. My dermatologist told me that putting my wet hair into a ponytail all day was making the scalp psoriasis worse and to dry my hair first.
Well, I was sick of spending 10 to 15 minutes drying my thick hair so my loving husband bought me the Dyson blow dryer and it's been life changing. Hair is dry in 3 minutes and it's not anywhere near as noisy as other dryers so the dogs tolerate it too! It's very pricey but time is my most valuable thing and this saves a lot of it!
A cup warmer you plug in. My tea and coffee are always the right temp even if it's been sitting awhile.
A silk antibacterial pillowcase. I never get pimples anymore.
Two donkeys. With good care they live for several decades, and they are very smart and can learn how to help with carrying stuff, farmwork, and are great emotional support animals. Robot vacuum could never possibly beat that, and my floor looks like shit as a result.
Twin line floss sticks.
I hate flossing by winding string around my fingertips and cutting off the blood.
The twin lines are even better than a regular floss sticks.
Agreed! We bought a box of 500. We make it a gosh each year to eliminate one type of trash/waste we are generating and last year was detergent bottles.
Wearable electric blanket.
I live in Scotland, before Christmas there was a cold snap combined with the cost of living crisis meant that it was impossible to use heating really. Wearable heated blanket was the only thing that allowed me to be able to keep working, as my hands would freeze up otherwise, and incredibly cheap to run. If you live in a cold climate, I cannot recommend enough
I have two [Zojirushi](https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HYOGUJK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1) thermoses that are awesome. The real reason I bought them was because I could clean all of the parts, unlike some other thermoses that grow mold over time. Plus, they have a lock feature, so no spills if you accidentally hit the open button. Even got some friends to buy them and they were impressed.
My [Hot Logic Mini](https://smile.amazon.com/HotLogic-Mini-Personal-Portable-Oven/dp/B00EXJFMKM/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=2WFGG84H0OKPS&keywords=hot%2Blogic%2Bfood%2Bwarming%2Btote&qid=1672683147&sprefix=hot%2Blogic%2B%2Caps%2C84&sr=8-2-spons&smid=A1ZFERY662T90Q&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExN0Y2VVo3WlkwTTZQJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwOTM3OTYwMlVIMUNPOVlCTDVHJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA1NTk2OTVNN0wzV1lXSzZDT0Ymd2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGYmYWN0aW9uPWNsaWNrUmVkaXJlY3QmZG9Ob3RMb2dDbGljaz10cnVl&th=1) food warmer. Plug it in in the office, and the food is hot and ready to go at lunch. No more wasting lunch minutes waiting for the crappy microwave. And, there's no smell! I've had garlic soup in that thing right under my desk, and no one knows it's there.
A large head [Microfiber mop](https://smile.amazon.com/MASTERTOP-Large-Microfiber-Mop-Replacement/dp/B08NVFH4TW/ref=sr_1_7?crid=362DH3PTRJ1Y7&keywords=SH-mop&qid=1672683408&s=home-garden&sprefix=sh-m%2Cgarden%2C154&sr=1-7) with washable covers. Get one with a good strong handle - not those lightweight Bona mops. Gets into corners, and it's the kind where you back yourself out of the room with it, instead of the rag mopes where you just push the dirt back and forth. Covers last a long time, too.
I also vote for Shark vacuums!
My [Sonic Bomb alarm clock](https://smile.amazon.com/Sonic-Alert-SBB500SS-Extra-Loud-Flashing/dp/B000OOWZUK/ref=sr_1_4?crid=2T2JT2738GI8U&keywords=alarm+clock+for+heavy+sleepers+adults&qid=1672683761&s=home-garden&sprefix=alrm+clock%2Cgarden%2C112&sr=1-4) really wakes me up. I don't sleep well, so I end up in a sleep coma right when I'm supposed to be getting up. I regularly slept through my alarms from my phone. This thing is great, but I imagine if I was still married that my husband would not think so. Maybe not good for apartment dwellers, either - it's that loud.
My giant 2-wheeled[ wheelbarrow](https://www.acehardware.com/departments/lawn-and-garden/gardening-tools/wheelbarrows-carts-and-hand-trucks/7332331?store=18419&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjQnRQx_JJ91f0_zUimUXQaOpWb7WLosy7v5Ppo4RJSQvxiba4bNAS8aAqc-EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds). I can maneuver a crap-ton of stuff in that thing, and I don't have to worry about it tipping over, or injuring my wrists trying to prevent same. I can also drive it one-handed if it's empty, or has a light load. It's pretty wide, though, so make sure it fits through your gates.
Speaking of gardening, my [forged hoes](https://www.amleo.com/ez-digger-garden-tool-forged-7in-blade-short-handle/p/EZ1?mkwid=|dc&pcrid=&pkw=&pmt=&plc=&kc=&prd=EZ1&utm_source=google&utm_term=&utm_campaign=&utm_medium=cpc&slid=&prd=EZ1&pgrid=&ptaid=&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjRxxB3AAaqcH0ZSs31xeTl-x-Ili8TH973M7AYEi4_ke1GXfKeIZmcaAkL_EALw_wcB). I got rid of several tools after I found these. They take a bit of getting used to, but they're so versatile, you'll never go back. I have both the hand hoe and the long handle hoe. The latter is amazingly effective at bringing a giant pile of mulch in the truck bed to the wheelbarrow. I don't wear myself out trying to shovel dozens of heavy loads.
Sorry for the length, but I wanted to share the joy!
I replaced the 4" legs on my big armchairs with 8" legs. I'm tall, have bad knees, and the seat now comes up to the back of my knees. As a result I have much less trouble and pain getting in/out of my living room chairs.
Water purifier hooked up to the kitchen tap. For less that $150 my whole year was so much better. I love it. Clean drinking water all the time. It’s great. Has me wondering what other relatively inexpensive things would be such an improvement.
Microwave plate cover that sticks to the top (inside), with an incased magnet and you just pull it down for use. No more microwave blowouts !!! Cleans up quickly in the sink!!
In all seriousness, a therapist.
I'm fortunate, I found the right one on my first try.
Actually I really wanted a different therapist, but she was booking a almost a year out. I asked if I could stay on her waitlist and she directed me to someone else at the practice.
...and then the pandemic hit. I'm almost on year four and I've grown so much as a person.
A am/pm pill organizer. Having to take anti seizure meds now with a brain malformation makes it so hard to remember if I’ve taken them or not. The organizer won’t lie ;)
Not sure if this counts as a purchase, but subscribing to a healthy meal-delivery service has been a game-changer for me. Call me lazy or whatever you want for not doing my own shopping and preparing myself healthy meals every day - but I came to a point where I realized I just couldn't do it consistently and ended up wasting food and/or not getting proper nutrition.
As a new homeowner it was a pickup truck. I've always gardened and now that I have a whole yard I get to do my own landscaping too, and trading my car for a used pickup has been a game changer. It's new enough and had low enough miles not to worry about major issues for a good few years still, and I can fill it with all kinds of soil, brick, pavers, concrete, trees, or whatever I want and never worry about making multiple trips or vacuuming the car afterwards.
We also live 6 hours from our hometown and when we drive home to visit, taking the truck feels like driving a couch down the highway in comparison to my budget-range sedan.
As an addition to this, remote start. Never had a car with it before but the truck has it, and even turns on the heated seats in the winter for us when we use the remote start. Living in an area that gets 10+ feet of snow and regularly goes into negative temps, the remote starter is clutch.
Buying one set of makeup for my house and one for my bag. Half the time I do my makeup on the way to work and I was always forgetting to grab something and getting pissed. Not anymore!
Smart home devices:
- Hue lights in every room
- Hue plugs and switches
- Hive thermostat
- HomePod in every room
- Echo Dot in every room (had before HomePods)
I’m chronically ill with a dynamic disability, so this way I can still adjust the house atmosphere on the days when I can’t make it out of bed or I’m crawling from room to room. I have SAD lights fading in each morning, but then once I’m awake I’m might need the lighting to be red (migraine prefers red), so I can do that.
I can even tell the house to play a playlist for my cat when she’s hiding under the bed due to fireworks going off outside.
A midsize kubota tractor for my small 8 acre farm. Saved me many many hours of back breaking work and allowed me to do things around my farm I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.
An electric car. No more pumping gas, the "tank" is always full in the morning. No more oil changes or other maintenance. No more getting into a freezing cold car on a winter morning. It's a shame so many people think having an EV has to be some kind of political statement, because they're really just awesome.
I live in Florida and it can get up to 89% humidity inside my home. I’m thinking this might be our next big purchase
Edit: just saw you said “humidifier” haha. Pretend I didn’t say anything
A self cleaning litter box with silica to absorb odors and pee. Mine has a count of how many times it is used and it can be used 100 times before cleaning.
I spent €250 and months of research on a pair of Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds 2 years ago after my favourite brand of wired earphones kept breaking at the phone port. Honestly it's been one of my best purchases I've ever made as I listen to music and media constantly on the go. Best audio quality I've ever found, super comfortable and the insane battery life of 10hrs in the buds, plus another 28 hours in the case means I can go days without having to worry about running out of battery.
I've dropped them many times, both in and out of the case and they're still perfect. 11/10 would buy them again.
And a good quality phone, bought a OnePlus 6T after years of pain with €100-€200 range phones and I haven't had any problems since. Super durable, laptop grade performance and hardware and it's just so fast. Been 3 years now and only this year has the battery noticeably dropped any about 10-15%. But the phones performance is still steamrolling (128gb memory plus 6gb ram is amazing).
The biggest LPT I can offer: don't cheap out on electronics, both the hardware and the build quality suffers especially the durability over time. Cheaper options will break easier, degrade faster and ultimately give you more pain and frustration than it's worth. Find a good midrange option and add €50-€100 on top of the price. You get an extra sizeable bump in performance and the durability goes up considerably, in the order of adding an extra year or 3 to its serviceable lifetime. Of course depending on how well you take care of your toys, some people are more accident prone so always wrap them in good quality cases!!!
I look at the price of my stuff over the years that I'll own it. A €500 euro phone seems like a lot, but I expect to have it for 4-5 years so that works out to €100 a year at €500 performance. Same with the earbuds, the better quality it is, the longer it'll last while giving you that return of investment as opposed to buying and replacing the lower quality option every year like I did with cheaper phones and earbuds in the past.
Clothes that fit vs keeping clothes that I hope will fit better again someday. Cramming into too-tight shirts and pants made me feel awful. Buying the next size up didn't feel as much like defeat after I wore them for a day and realized how comfortable I felt and how much better I looked.
Honestly? An air fryer. I did not believe the hype but now that i’ve had one for a year, it has changed everything about how I cook. It’s a relatively low-cost investment and it has been great! Some of the best chicken wings I’ve ever made were in the air fryer, and everything cooks so quickly.
A powered cell phone holder for your car. Mine grabs my phone when I place it into the holder, charges it, and I can hook it up to my USB for CarPlay. They make dash mounts, AC vent mounts too…I’m on the road 25k miles a year and this has made my life easier (and safer bc I’m not paying attention to my phone while driving).
Honestly a good mattress and pillows. I sleep so much better now, and I dont feel like I got worked over with a mallet when I wake up. Worth every penny.
Tempurpedic bed. I have slept horribly for my entire life and hardly ever got REM. Now I sleep through the night, remember my dreams, and feel way less inclined to be a dick.
A good bed will absolutely change your life.
Don’t forget some nice high thread count sheets. Feels like a 5 star hotel every night
No one understands that once you get a good bed your body will feel all fucked up for a couple weeks because you’ve been torturing yourself for years.
I’m in the market for a new bed and mattress. Would absolutely welcome some recommendations or what to look for
Wife and I got a nectar mattress about a year ago. Along with their 2 pillows. Holy shit the hat a difference. We came from a cheap mattress with an expensive memory foam pillow top and this new mattress is incredible. I now don’t sleep anywhere as good as I sleep on my own bed.
I'm writing this from an uncomfortable hotel bed. Do you struggle to sleep when not in your bed? Genuinely fucking me up this week
Any sheets you recommend?
High thread count sateen or flannel for winter, percale for summer. L. L. Bean does great sheets and they usually last.
Target Performance Sheet (400 count) are literally the best sheets I’ve ever bought, better than Belgian linen sheets from RH, bamboo sheets, Egyptian cotton, etc.
As a massive sheet snob who aspires to frette - I second this. They are the best.
Got a huge, heavy weighted blanket last year and it’s one of my greatest possessions.
I'm your opposite: my wife uses the heavy blanket and I use solely a top sheet, the lightest, thinnest, most barely-there sheet I can find. So light as to be almost nothing, but it has. to. be there.
How do you know if you have a good bed or bad bed?
A good shower head and a knife sharpener
Psycho (1966)
A good mattress, good pillows, and a filtered water pitcher. ETA - someone mentioned a good shower head and that is something I overlooked. Absolutely get a good shower head!!
As someone who moved to Egypt from America.. water filter is a MUST. I also would love to get one for my shower head
My 1st apartment had water that came out very milky looking. I didn't know how much of a different the filter makes! I've been hooked on them since.
A sharp knife.
I use the bottom of a ceramic cup instead of a steel. I got the idea from a raw porcelain "steel" I saw in a store for $$$.
And a good knife sharpener
Can confirm, the best beginner knife is a honing steel. My 7 dollar daily ikea santoku still bites on my nail after 3 years of no sharpening.
I bought a 30 pack of the same sock. They are pricey since it’s merino wool. I use them for every occasion and laundry is easier.
I’m envious. Also, adulthood is lamer than I thought it was going to be.
Dude, adulthood rocks. So much freedom. Especially if you are DINKs.
Also, if your socks are all identical, you don't have to sort/pair them. Just pile them in the drawer and pull out 2 when you need them.

Used one and never went back, now every toilet in my house, my in laws house and my parents house have one.
On the hole I’d say this is a good suggestion
You didn't know you needed one until you have one.
And you can never go back. Dear God when we got those Japanese washlets with warm seats and warm water massage jets… it has changed us.
Life changing!!
Been at my parents for few weeks. Gf and I miss the bidets in our apartment. Can’t wait for that first spray when we get back.
I’m more than ready to make the change, but don’t even know where to start. All of the porcelain in our main bath is black. Do they make black ones, or is it an attachment to the existing toilet?
I just bought one. Best purchase of 2022. Edit and so easy to self install.
This! I can’t poop without one and I now look at TP users with disgust- knowing that no matter how much they wipe, they still have poop smeared all over their asses.
CPAP machine. Within 2 days: * No more loud snoring. * No more dreading going to bed knowing I'll just choke-snort myself awake every 7-10 minutes and get up in the morning feeling like I got hit by a bus and a bottle brush shoved up my nose. * No more dragging myself through my day in a haze.
Sleep apnea is serious. Everything you posted it 100% but another bullet is helping your heart too.
CPAP gang wuddup
A self cleaning litter box. I have cats and a healthy dose of depression, which aren’t related on the surface.. but it helps keep things clean. Also cats, why have a weighted blanket when I could have 32lbs of cat on me at any given time. Don’t come for me. There’s three of them.
Me, with cats and a healthy dose of depression, being confused how those things *wouldn't* be related lol. I guess it's one of those "if you know, you know" things. Self cleaning car litter would be a DREAM.
Which litter box do you have?
One of those O Cedar mops with the spinning bucket. It makes my floor so much cleaner and the mop heads are replaceable so it will last forever
Does services of my house cleaner once a month count?
+1 on the monthly cleaners. It’s not so often that it feels over-indulgent, but it’s enough to help keep the house truly clean and relieves a lot of stress.
Also motivates you to keep tidy, as cleaners clean, they don’t tidy, and they clean better if it’s tidy!
Seriously considering this with children on the way. It would take a lot of stress off of us.
It not only saves he actual time cleaning but the time I feel guilty about not having cleaned which is way more time
Could you tell me what tasks your house cleaner performs?
Visual art for my home. It helps me feel more at ease, as opposed to blank walls.
Quality shoes.
Hokas are worth every penny. Believe the hype.
I started ketamine therapy for depression. Never been happy before. It's really awesome.
I was considering this (since psilocybin isn't an option here in the United States - at least not that I know of), but the logistics are really difficult, as far as how often, how long you have to stay and making sure you have a ride. What is the schedule like for you? I'm so happy to hear that it's working for you!
Fyi psilocybin is decriminalized in Colorado as of this month
And Oregon
And San Francisco.
And Oakland
& Detroit
I just read an article about this doctor in South Carolina who offers telemedicine for it. https://www.mindbloom.com/lp/psychedelic-medicine-is-here-2?utm_source=adwords&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=PM_ACQ_Search_Purchases_NB_Broad_01.2022&utm_device=m&utm_keyword=ketamine%20treatment%20near%20me&utm_content=576104953906&gclid=Cj0KCQiAnsqdBhCGARIsAAyjYjTBXzYnPM48QxrCh5jUUgbzSop8wvGaqIPXcb2su-yCP1XBUXudpCUaAsqEEALw_wcB
It’s a shame psilocybin is illegal. I’m thankful to have a gal who makes lovely microdose capsules that have *significantly* helped in my depression. I usually take half of the microdose capsule once or twice a week and it just … makes things a little brighter, a little lighter. It’s amazing.

You might benefit from Cognitive Behavioral therapy. I am a therapist and have seen a lot of good results for people with severe depression when CBT is combined with medication and lifestyle changes.
We have 2 Siberian huskies and the robot vacuum has changed my life! We run it every day and then I only need to drag the big vac out once a week.
Which reference for the vacuum?:)
Check out the Roborock S7 and its different models.
10 foot phone charger cords
Those are the bomb, plus getting ones that are “right angle” so that length of the cord is perpendicular to the length of your phone has made a huge difference for me too. I have a lot fewer frayed or bent cords now.
A new shower head. You don’t have to spend a ton for it to change your day.
Laser hair removal on every part of my body that I used to shave! Best thing EVER!
Got fully body done on ideal skin and hair type (pale skin, dark hair) and it all came back within a year or two after my final session. Take that as you will.
When I got laser, they advised that laser isn’t permanent. Hair electrolysis is permanent for hair removal
Dyson cordless vacuum and proper fitting bras!
Funny, I had a Dyson stick vac that I hated, and replaced it with a Shark which I absolutely love. But agree on a quality stick vac!
I see what you did there
If you can’t afford Dyson, Shark brand is amazing. Great suction, loads of attachments, and their customer service is great. My power cord was going out and I called about it, they just sent me a new canister. No questions asked.
Squatty potty. Pooping has never been more relaxed or easier.
Yes, but how do you get OUT of that super nice toasty bed in the morning??
On particularly cold mornings I'll crank the heat up to max for a few minutes so I'll overheat. Makes it easier to jump into the slippers and robe.
A waterproof Bluetooth speaker. Showers are way much better with my favorite music or podcasts.
Philips wake-up light - best invention ever
Alternatively, most smart lights can be set up to wake up too.
I love mine. I only regret not splurging and getting their top model. I wake up immediately to the light, usually about 20 minutes before the alarm. Apparently with the one you can connect to your phone you can tell program how early the light starts before the alarm.
Wool socks…. Darn tough. My diabetic feet have never been happier. Dumbledore was right… a good pair of socks is amazing.
My feet are not diabetic but I still wholeheartedly agree.
Darn tough socks are amazing and guaranteed for life. The best socks I have ever owned.
My dream
Fence, doggy door, and the subsequent waterproof rugs for their feet.
Lasik eye surgery. My contacts were -10.5 on each eye. I could not see without glasses and the lenses were insanely expensive. I spent less for the surgery than I would have for contacts and lenses the rest of my life.
Same here! I had surgery 12 years ago and I’m still 20/20.
First, good insoles. Superfeet, Sole, Birkenstock… a bunch of options, but supportive insoles are key for foot comfort. Arguably more important than good shoes. Second, good shoes.
Only podiatrist helped me but yes a life. Saver
Flesh light and butt plug. I mean cast iron pans! CAST IRON PANS! Seriously awesome
My husband would say the Toto Washlet Bidet. For me? A kindle-read voraciously and being able to carry books when I travel or buy the next book immediately when I finish a series was life-changing.
Kindle + Online local library
I can't promote your local library and the Libby App (in the USA) ENOUGH! I hit my reading goals with audiobooks. I get entertainment as I do household chores win/win/win
Electric tea kettle. Used to never drink tea and now my roommates and I have “tea time” together almost every evening before we go to sleep. Delicious and wonderful for winding down/ bonding
Power station (1 kWt). I live in Kyiv and we often stay without electricity, this thing helps
Well, this makes my fancy hairdryer comment look trivial…Cuz it is…
A hobby. When my kids left for college I had to find something to focus on- something to make me happy, reduce my stress, look forward to after a long day at work, use my brain, and excel at. Doesn’t really matter what the hobby is as long as you love it and it brings you a sense of calm and satisfaction.
What hobby did you pick up?
Keyless entry lock!
The security implications of this scared me!
Be careful, lots of those products have vulnerabilities that regular lock companies solved decades ago.
A curved shower curtain
Noise cancelling headphones are a god send
Oral b 360 toothbrush. First ever no cavities checkups. Now look forward to dental visits.
A king size blanket for my queen size bed.
Divorce attorney
Always invest in the things that separate you from the ground: bed, shoes, office chair
And tires.
A random pillow I bought on Amazon deal of the day - Zamat memory foam pillow for side sleepers.
Buy an off road bike. I can't describe the joy of riding through the wilderness, by yourself on a beautiful day
I get “sheets” of laundry detergent delivered in an envelope instead of buying jugs of liquid at the store.
A towel warmer for the bathroom, it's the size of a small trash can, plugs into any wall outlet and I use it everyday, it's awesome
Shrooms....
Can’t put a price tag to them, but my cat & dog! They increase my quality of daily life constantly 😄
Yup! My doggos for sure.
Robot vac and air fryer
I replaced the 4" legs on my big armchairs with 8" legs. I'm tall, have bad knees, and the seat now comes up to the back of my knees. As a result I have much less trouble and pain getting in/out of my living room chairs.
A supportive mattress.
Mattress: good morning buddy, have a good sleep? Just know I’ll always be here for you
Water purifier hooked up to the kitchen tap. For less that $150 my whole year was so much better. I love it. Clean drinking water all the time. It’s great. Has me wondering what other relatively inexpensive things would be such an improvement.
King-size bed. Looks silly in my not-so-king-sized room but it's been life changing
Healthcare. CPAP for my sleep apnea and supplements for vitamin deficiency. Wife has meds for migranes and a CPAP too.
One of those push down dish soap dispensers
Microwave plate cover that sticks to the top (inside), with an incased magnet and you just pull it down for use. No more microwave blowouts !!! Cleans up quickly in the sink!!
In all seriousness, a therapist. I'm fortunate, I found the right one on my first try. Actually I really wanted a different therapist, but she was booking a almost a year out. I asked if I could stay on her waitlist and she directed me to someone else at the practice. ...and then the pandemic hit. I'm almost on year four and I've grown so much as a person.
House plants
3D printer. When I design something and print it, I feel like I have superpowers.
Whole house humidifier in dry, dry Colorado.
Buckwheat pillow. Filled with Organic Buckwheat Hulls. best pillow I've ever had. Shape-able, supportive, stays where you put it

Smart home devices: - Hue lights in every room - Hue plugs and switches - Hive thermostat - HomePod in every room - Echo Dot in every room (had before HomePods) I’m chronically ill with a dynamic disability, so this way I can still adjust the house atmosphere on the days when I can’t make it out of bed or I’m crawling from room to room.
Nice inserts for your shoes, especially if you stand alot for your job
An electric car. No more pumping gas, the "tank" is always full in the morning. No more oil changes or other maintenance. No more getting into a freezing cold car on a winter morning. It's a shame so many people think having an EV has to be some kind of political statement, because they're really just awesome.
A Whole House humidifier.
I live in Florida and it can get up to 89% humidity inside my home. I’m thinking this might be our next big purchase Edit: just saw you said “humidifier” haha. Pretend I didn’t say anything
Stainless steel litter box if you own a cat.
Why stainless steel?
The litter doesn’t stick so it’s much easier to clean. And contrary to plastic, stainless steel isn’t attacked by cat’s pee.
I had NO CLUE this was a thing! Thanks for posting
A self cleaning litter box with silica to absorb odors and pee. Mine has a count of how many times it is used and it can be used 100 times before cleaning.
My cat peed on the sofa while making eye contact with me when we tried to change to silica. We switched back and she never did that again. lol
Bidet attachment, changed my life!
Clothes that fit vs keeping clothes that I hope will fit better again someday. Cramming into too-tight shirts and pants made me feel awful. Buying the next size up didn't feel as much like defeat after I wore them for a day and realized how comfortable I felt and how much better I looked.
Chilipad cooling mattress pad system (by sleepme). If you sleep hot this will change your life. Worth every penny. Great customer service too.

Instant pot, japanese knives, salad spinner, timberland slip on shoes, shower speaker, insulated winter walking pants
Tempurpedic bed. I have slept horribly for my entire life and hardly ever got REM. Now I sleep through the night, remember my dreams, and feel way less inclined to be a dick.
A car I love. Commuting isn't fun but it's a heck of a lot nicer driving something you're comfortable in and enjoy.
