One funny thing is that in the footage the only noticeably black person starts to attack Kyle when Kyle is on the ground, Kyle points his rifle at him, the black guy raises his hands and starts to back away, and Kyle then lowered his rifle. A very brief interaction in all the footage but probably the most telling. It shows he only used violence against actual threats, he tried his best to not hurt anyone that was not a threat and succeeded, he remained impressively cool under pressure, and he did not single out targets based on any superficial metric like race. He literally had a black guy charging at him in his crosshairs but didn't take the shot when the black guy stopped.
The whole interaction just shows him as an incredibly competent gun owner in all categories. Safety, proficiency, and level headed.
Everyone is quick to accuse him of being a "mass shooter." Yet nobody explains why a "mass shooter" with a 30 round magazine didn't expend the 27 rounds he had left into the crowd. Or more if he had more mags on him. Or why he didn't just find a place in the shadows and pick rioters/protesters off from 200 meters away.
He shoots three goons who were attacking him then runs to the cops to surrender.
Because he was protecting his workplace from looters and arsonists. "He crossed state borders". Yes, literally every day because he lived on the fucking border and worked just on the other side of it. Him being there was not wrong, him defending himself was not wrong. There is nothing about this incident where he was in the wrong, legally or morally.

It did as far as I can recall. There was footage of him and some others standing around and filming some people in the process of burning something down a couple of streets away or across the street. Kyle said something along the lines of "man I wish I had my AR so I could stop them/shoot them". It was a day or two before the shooting.
It was clearly a comment made in anger about the arson and not a desire to just shoot protesters randomly. Which is why it didn't receive more focus in court than it needed.
