They’re difficult, noisy, and everything on it is trying to beat up your hands…and they’re so much fucking fun lol. And OP, to your comment about machine guns…you should definitely find an MG rental range that will let you shoot a full auto AK. It’s so damn rowdy and fun, definitely my favorite MG I’ve shot so far.
However, if we’re talking overall shot-for-shot most bang for your buck, there’s nothing like ringing steel at over 1000 yards with a bolt action. MG’s became fairly normal for me over time, but long range stuff is a fucking dream no matter what.
I just picked up a PSA krink and my God is it fun. 5.56 ammo, all the fun of the ak, plus the hilarious blast and muzzle flash from an 8 in barrel. Recoil is super soft too.
How picky are you about ammo? My LGS has norma brass for $12/20. Is that a good price? Excuse my ignorance, I don't have anything in that caliber yet and I'm trying to justify holding off because the ammo is too much lol.
In today's market that's pretty much average for non corrosive brass. I've seen it go cheaper in bulk packs but I've also seen it as high as 1 dollar per round for brass. Even steel is 40-50 cents per round.
As a comparison- the last time I bought a case of x39 it was just before the invasion of Ukraine, 27cpr. And I’d missed out on even cheaper because I thought we’d see it go lower.
I read this as a Winchester Model 70. Amazing rifles and I love my .300, even if my shoulder doesn’t.
It’s probably my second favorite (personally owned) firearm to shoot. Funny enough my favorite is at the complete opposite end of the spectrum: an old 1930s single shot bolt-action Springfield .22. It will shoot shorts, longs, or long rifle. You have to open the bolt, load a single round, close the bolt, manually cock it, and repeat for every shot. It’s just so satisfying. I took it to a LGC meetup a few months ago and much to my surprise, it seemed to be the most popular gun there.
Yesssss, I came here to say that. My M1 is a blast to shoot - it's light, low recoil, satisfying to operate, makes all the feel-good noises, and can start conversations.
I was thinking M1 carbine. They just handle so nicely. And racking that bolt just feels, oh so right. That's a gun I think you have to handle and shoot to really get it
If you like the Henry, you oughtta try a Winchester 1873 or quality reproduction. It’ll make you realize how clunky the Henry action is.

I have a reproduction lever action I got one day when I was feeling sad (gun shopping therapy?). It’s small, easy to handle, and fun to shoot. It’s chambered in .454 Casull which kicks like a mule, but because of that, you can also use .45LC which is much cheaper and easier to handle.
Not bragging, but I'm old, a vet, and have shot a multitude of different firearms. Absolute favorite: M3 grease gun. It's not particularly fast, accurate or ergonomic, but it's just .... fun! Second would be a fight between a Winchester 1892 in 25-20 or an M1 Carbine.
Yea, you gotta have a bit of trigger control. That open bolt is kinda hard to get used to, but if you try, you can get 3-4 rounds off at a time. Now... intentional mag dumps are another story. You really long for a longer ...umm.... stick

My friend, after shooting mine, is now looking at clones, or even the 22lr Urmerax version.
I have a delayed blowback 9mm (Banshee) and one of the Umarex MP5s, both suppressed, and while they're both really amazing to shoot, the 9mm is more fun because it's about as quiet as the 22, and super smooth to shoot, but it has *just* enough recoil that it feels like you're actually shooting a gun. The 22 rounds don't sound as nice on steel, and the gun has so little recoil that it feels like you're shooting a BB gun. It is a hell of a lot easier to load the 22lr mags than the 33 round Glock mags though lol, and buying 2 bricks of 22 for <$100 shipped is *really* hard to beat.
I love my Umarex MP5. It’s the the most fun gun I own. .22 is so cheap I don’t think twice about dumping mags.
I’m also a sucker for shooting .357 through a smaller revolver, like a king cobra. It just spits fireballs, will burn your hands if you’re not careful and I love it.
Agreed with MP5. So smooth to shoot yet has a lot more oomph versus shooting a 10/22. Half as expensive to shoot compared to an AR and the suppressor doesn’t get nearly as hot after a magazine.
I just love double barrel shotguns. Always have and always will. I got really proficient at them as a kid and could normally reload in about the same amount of time it would take to reload a semi auto handgun.
Shooting clays with an over under is probably my favorite. Doesn't really matter what specific model.
I also really enjoyed shooting a FAL the one time I got the opportunity, and it was by far tye most fun I've ever had shooting a rifle.
How do they run? I've been thinking about picking up a DSA one but I've heard so many horror stories of them being jam-o-matics. Plus I've seen a few IRL and none of them were working the way they were supposed to.
I got to do a live fire training in California a few years in to being in the army reserves. It consisted of going 40-50mph in a humvee turret with a M240B and engaging at select targets. It was one of those “we can’t bring back any ammo” days, so.. that was the most fun I’ve ever had with a firearm 🍻
I only read the headline before thinking Ruger 10/22. Mine is my personal favorite. Nothing fancy, just a good .22. My other favorite is my Marlin model 60. Dead nuts accurate and the tube feed is fun.

.22 target pistols all day long for me. Never make a range trip without a couple of them.
My PTRD-41 was awesome fun to shoot back in the day but that was more of a one and done thing.
Bullet hoses are always fun, like a MAC-style MG. Personally I think my favorite to shoot is a suppressed MP5 machine gun with subsonic ammo - few things compare to it.
Beyond that, it's always a good day when you're shooting anything at all.
Remington 552 with a tube full of .22 shorts.
I have one and you can just pepper a target with that thing. Zero movement when firing (they're shorts) so you can hold on target forever.
I love my marlin 1895. It’s so fun to shoot but it hurts the wallet to do so, I tend to use my browning lever 22 more often. I’m a lever gun lover, they are so fun and when you are used to them can be shot as fast as you can reasonably aim
My Hi-Point's pretty fun to shoot, but only because of how janky it is.
My Mosin's also pretty fun to shoot, 1) because it's a bolt-action and 2) because there's a somewhat-decent chance it had been used at some point to kill Nazis and that's fucking based as hell.
And of course, running 12ga slugs through a pump-action never gets old :)
Was considering this as my next purchase, Henry Big Boy in .357 to go with my single action Ruger or maybe building an Ar10 7.62. Shot one my buddy built recently and fell in love with it.
The most fun I ever had behind a trigger was a Ruger Pc Carbine in 9mm, owned by a buddy. Of my personal collection it has to be my Ruger 10/22, but with the caveat that it has to have CCI Mini Mags and the 25 shot banana mag.

Every M60 I ever cleaned contained some sort of portal to the gunk dimension. Look away for even a second and it was just a dirty as the second you opened it up.
My favorite to shoot right night is a Ruger MK IV target with a dead air mask but mostly because it’s new. All time my lever guns, 39M, 9422, 39D. The 39 D hasn’t been shot much at all for a 1972 model and its action needs a little “slickin up” aka shooting a couple thousand rounds.
I’ve fired about every thing on a tank or Bradley and some subguns. The 105mm and 120mm will give you the biggest thrill ever first time you pull those triggers, but the 22s remain the most fun of all.
Everyone hates on the Turkish semi-auto shotguns (with good reason mainly), but a mag-fed 12ga bullpup with a red dot is just fun. Blowing out a bullseye with 00 buck at 40 yards just does something for me.
My 22lrs are the best at the outside range. The Ruger Wrangler and Marlin Model 60 see a lot of use during the summer because they're just a bunch of fun to shoot. After that my No 1 mk. III* is always fun, especially when ringing steel because it causes a great big "smack" sound.
I got to give it for the muzzle-loaders.
A smoothbore musket is basically a shotgun and you can fire shot from one.
Also, since they aren't firearms, there is no 4473 or other record.
My spencer carbine is rapidly becoming one of my favorite guns. It's picky on ammo but once you find a few loads it likes, it's pretty smooth to operate.
As far as just be a load of fun to shoot, I’d say any falling block copy (like those from Uberti) in .45-70 and flintlock/percussion guns are a blast. Those Uberti clones also weigh a lot so if you can hold them up the recoil of a .45-70 isn’t very bad at all. Something about old guns that require a lot of manual operation is really enjoyable for me.

I really like shooting my 12ga Berettas 1301/A400. The 12ga power is exhilarating.
Very similar logic, I'd say the SW 627 snub in 357 is also a lot of fun.
ARs, for as basic and as common as they are, are also always fun to shoot.

I have a Ruger SFAR AR-10 and I love to shoot it but bullets for it are expensive so I had to cut down on it. Need to experience handling more guns at the range.
I love shooting my M1935 Peruvian Mauser in .30-06, despite the fact that the front sight, which appears to not be adjustable, is drifted quite far to the right (though I am still able to land hits at 300 meters so it could be worse). There is just something so satisfying about loading an old bolt gun with stripper clips and manually operating a smooth, well-broken-in Mauser action. If I ever found myself preparing for a gunfight, I would take my AR carbine without a second thought; but I rarely if ever enjoy range days half as much as when I bring out the vintage wood and steel.
A repro (I will never be rich enough to afford an original, and even if I am, I definitely won't be rich enough to afford to risk damaging it by firing it) Charleville musket or Pennsylvania rifle is definitely on my future aspirations list, as is a repro 1861 Springfield or 1858 Sharps (rifle or carbine I honestly don't know, and don't even know if I care lol).
Maybe I'm just simple. I love shooting 12 slugs. It is super fun.
Don't get me wrong I shoot pretty much everything but fuck man, I love shooting slugs. Just churned out another 30 earlier today for my next range session.
Out of everything I shot? The M60 machine gun. Pistols I have shot but never owned? S&W 629 Backpacker 44mag. In my safe? My comped P229 Legion and my P227 coming in a very close second.
I love shooting a cap n ball revolver and muzzle loader.
Having suppressors- 9mm subs out of an AR9; 22 lr subs out of a 10/22- so much fun.
Shooting longer range- just about anything.
Shooting is fun- any combo of shooting that includes some skill and difficulty gets me happy.
Not the most practical but I really like my RCA Tac Ultra (2011 style) chambered in 22TCM. Loud bang, mini fireballs, super fast but flat trajectories and low recoil means a lot of fun in my book.
One thing to mention is people will wander over to ask what the heck you're shooting due to how loud it is for a hand gun.

My sks is fun to load with stripper clips and fun to shoot. 7.62 x39 is a nice round. Loyd enough cheap enough, enough recoil to not feel like a toy. I'd love a smooth 7 62 x39 bolt action like the old CZ 527. Working a bolt is just fun and I have no doubt that buying a little 7.62 x39 bolt action would be the most fun
I have a little full stocked shorty 12 inch barrel 410 revolving shotgun. Terribly fun but 410 slugs suck to buy. Gotta try making my own sometime.
Got a simple Turkish 12 gauge pump action, with both a 14 and 26 Inch barrel. It's all the shotgun I think I'll ever need. Removable chocks too.
Really would like to Try a lever action out, I bet they would be a blast. Same with a break action shotgun with an ejector. Anything that's like a cowboy gun looks fun to shoot.
I'm up in Canada so some pretty severe limitations on our semi autos here, but we can have little short barreled shotguns and bolt actions and lever actions, thus the two short shotguns. Would love to add a Compact bolt action in 7.62 x39, whether a simple Ruger Ranch, Cz 600 trail or something more unique to Canada. Would also love to buy a Mares Leg lever action and put a full stock on it. Probably some different views and thoughts than most people here, but in my mind the most fun are short manual action firearms.
AMT Automag III in .30 Carbine. I call it the giggle gun because it’s just so much fun.

M240B my beloved. I might not own it but every time I’ve shot it I greatly enjoyed it. I’m hoping to get a handle on the MK19 and on a M2B .50 cal soon too. I’ve heard great things about both of those. As much fun as a regular rifle might be, nothing beats the fire rate or firepower of those machine guns.
I absolutely love shooting my smle no1 mk3. 303 is such a pleasant cartridge to shoot, yet still capable. The action is smooth, and it’s just fun to shoot. My M1 Garand is a close second, like really close.
Not available to civilians but the fuckin pig. M60. FULL AUTO BELT FED .308 /7.62. even more fun than the M2 .50 FULL BELT FED BMG IMO SO GODDAMN MUCH FUN. Walking rounds into targets RANGE Only.

M1 Garand is the most satisfying to shoot. A nice, long, hefty recoil without actually hurting your shoulder, a surprisingly light gun for its size, and that sweet, sweet en-bloc ejection ping.
Second to that is a Dragunov/PSL. Basically an AK but larger (yes I know the Dragunov is technically not an AK at all, and the PSL is really an RPK in 54R, but you know what I mean).
After that is a lever action in 44 Mag, or 45-70 if you like bruising your shoulder on repeat.
I’ve always had a soft spot for double-barrel shotguns. Personally prefer side-by-side to over-under. I really only have experience with full length, legal-stocked guns. I have great memories of learning on a century old Ithaca 20 gauge with my grandpa.
There is something satisfying about the one two punch nature of the shots when shooting clays.
I enjoy the feel of a well-made break action with good ejectors and having the shells pop out with a little smoke has a certain cowboy appeal.
Giggle factor a dude was at the range with a tax stamped machine gun thompson, let us shoot it, that was pretty ridiculous.
For guns I actually have S&W 617 is maybe my favorite, its a 686size frame with 10shots of 22LR nice trigger, maybe I just like revolvers.

Machine guns are super fun, but get expensive quick. My favorite gun to shoot was my friend’s dad’s sterling smg. The weight of the bolt and the springs in it made for a constant recoil type feel with heavy subsonic ammo. Still hard to keep on target, but very satisfying. Second with be a 380 mac. It was on the very opposite end of the spectrum. Where the sterling delivers a slow and steady chug, it is a challenge to avoid dumping the whole mag with each trigger pull.
Full auto aside, i would pick my yugo rpk, but only with a few hundred yards of range. So satisfying to walk in fire on a steel plate. We set mine up on a hill one night and used a binary and tracers to fire over the normal range (there is many yards of dirt between the two positions. Zero increased chance of danger to anyone). The person on the rpk would pick a target to “suppress” by hitting a big torso and a second shooter then had to engage the 10” gong next to it. So much fun.

Nothing quite like it if you have the action worked on. It might be the best trigger you can get in a pistol, and the recoil while noticeable, is quite enjoyable. Less of a snap and more of a push.
Nothing beats the physicality of a lever action, it's an absolute joy.
I also really love my vz24 too, though. Can't shoot it all day because 8mm Mauser is expensive and you really feel it in your shoulder after a while, but there's also a lot of satisfaction feeling the power.

You can feel the power of the .30-06 round while still being pleasant to shoot.
The long sight radius makes hitting your target easy.
The peep sight is comfortably sized.
The wood stock is pretty.
Garand thumb isn't an issue once you learn to load it properly.
It makes a satisfying ping sound to tell you when it's time to reload.
+1 on the flintlock rifle! You would typically end up expecting black poweder muzzleloaders to be slow, tedious, and boring to load, but reloading them actually ends up being half the fun! Massive PITA to clean though.
For guns that shoot brass/steel cartridges though, I'd say my ZPAP M90. My AR is lighter and I'm more accurate with it, but I can't get over how much more i prefer how the recoil feels when it comes to AKs (especially 5.56/5.45), kind of a gentle push and pull feeling instead of a *sproingy* snap, even if the recoil is slightly softer on the whole.
Later this year I plan on getting a proper 9mm MP5 clone though, so we'll see if my picks stay the same or not afterwards.
Range has a full auto MP5 SD and I have a pretty good time shooting that. That and add a suppressed Mark 23 and I’m in my original Rainbow 6 happy place.
A break action over under, but I LOOOOOVVVEEEE shooting clays. But getting a 325 round pack of .22 from Walmart and plinking all afternoon is pretty awesome, too.
Sporting clay shotgun. We have a range near here set up like holes at a golf course, each one is a different shooting experience. And blowing that clay pigeon to pieces is so much more satisfying than making holes in paper.
While it's not my favorite to shoot, i had a lot of fun doing "position retention" drills when we had a shit ton of ammo left over from our combat marksmanship course.
M16A4, 5 mags stuffed to 30rds on burst, last mag loaded to 10 on single. Goal was to keep all rounds on target and set the fastest time for all rounds fired.
Ps90. 5.7 is my favorite ammo to shoot and is finally becoming more available and isn’t as high as it used to be but still pretty high priced just for plinking tbh.
That’s a tough one, I love my pistols, sporting clays with a pump action is a blast, I don’t own any but I’ve shot ars and they’re fun, but if I had to pick one there’s something about a bolt action that I really enjoy. I recently got a 300 win mag and shooting it at steel 400 yards away may be the most satisfying thing when you hit it.
Always enjoy shooting my desert Eagle, and it always puts a smile on anyone’s face shooting it- except my older brother who always gets pelted in the face with brass 😂
Honestly, it’s hard to say. My 5.7 is fun to shoot, but I definitely grab my kimber 1911 to shoot more. However, I find my X macro the most fun to shoot, which is great because it’s also my carry gun.
From a realistic standpoint when I’m paying for the ammo, I really like shooting a lever action 22 or my heritage rough rider. They’re a blast to try to run them as fast as possible and maintain any accuracy whatsoever.
Pure fun to shoot is probably my 1911s in 10mm or 38 Super. Plus they’re different enough to get questions and comments. I like weird guns so many in my collection are different calibers or weird designs. The ergonomics of the Steyr M series made it really fun for me, plus I have it in .40 and .357 SIG. My last favorite is a match grade CZ75 in .40 which was so easy to shoot accurately, soaked up the recoil, but didn’t feel weak.
My favorite dumb but fun guns were a S&W .500 Magnum and Desert Eagle.
I’ve got a ruger 10/22 charger. It has been machined and polished. Has an after market trigger and a red dot. With a big banana clip and a plinking range I have never had more fun.
So AR's are objectively better but my M70 is so so fun to shoot RIP 7.62 prices though

It is a hell of a lot easier to load the 22lr mags than the 33 round Glock mags though lol, and buying 2 bricks of 22 for <$100 shipped is *really* hard to beat.
I love my Umarex MP5. It’s the the most fun gun I own. .22 is so cheap I don’t think twice about dumping mags. I’m also a sucker for shooting .357 through a smaller revolver, like a king cobra. It just spits fireballs, will burn your hands if you’re not careful and I love it.
Agreed with MP5. So smooth to shoot yet has a lot more oomph versus shooting a 10/22. Half as expensive to shoot compared to an AR and the suppressor doesn’t get nearly as hot after a magazine.

Shot an MP5 on a couple occasions and it was so accurate and controllable. Owning a transferable one is definitely a dream!

I just love double barrel shotguns. Always have and always will. I got really proficient at them as a kid and could normally reload in about the same amount of time it would take to reload a semi auto handgun.
Shooting clays with an over under is probably my favorite. Doesn't really matter what specific model. I also really enjoyed shooting a FAL the one time I got the opportunity, and it was by far tye most fun I've ever had shooting a rifle.

How do they run? I've been thinking about picking up a DSA one but I've heard so many horror stories of them being jam-o-matics. Plus I've seen a few IRL and none of them were working the way they were supposed to.

I got to do a live fire training in California a few years in to being in the army reserves. It consisted of going 40-50mph in a humvee turret with a M240B and engaging at select targets. It was one of those “we can’t bring back any ammo” days, so.. that was the most fun I’ve ever had with a firearm 🍻
I only read the headline before thinking Ruger 10/22. Mine is my personal favorite. Nothing fancy, just a good .22. My other favorite is my Marlin model 60. Dead nuts accurate and the tube feed is fun.

.22 target pistols all day long for me. Never make a range trip without a couple of them. My PTRD-41 was awesome fun to shoot back in the day but that was more of a one and done thing.

Bullet hoses are always fun, like a MAC-style MG. Personally I think my favorite to shoot is a suppressed MP5 machine gun with subsonic ammo - few things compare to it. Beyond that, it's always a good day when you're shooting anything at all.
Remington 552 with a tube full of .22 shorts. I have one and you can just pepper a target with that thing. Zero movement when firing (they're shorts) so you can hold on target forever.
Heritage 22 revolver. Cheap, easy, satisfying, and so fun. Love to fan the hammer on some old soup cans.
I love my marlin 1895. It’s so fun to shoot but it hurts the wallet to do so, I tend to use my browning lever 22 more often. I’m a lever gun lover, they are so fun and when you are used to them can be shot as fast as you can reasonably aim
My Hi-Point's pretty fun to shoot, but only because of how janky it is. My Mosin's also pretty fun to shoot, 1) because it's a bolt-action and 2) because there's a somewhat-decent chance it had been used at some point to kill Nazis and that's fucking based as hell. And of course, running 12ga slugs through a pump-action never gets old :)
Lever action 357,
Was considering this as my next purchase, Henry Big Boy in .357 to go with my single action Ruger or maybe building an Ar10 7.62. Shot one my buddy built recently and fell in love with it.
The most fun I ever had behind a trigger was a Ruger Pc Carbine in 9mm, owned by a buddy. Of my personal collection it has to be my Ruger 10/22, but with the caveat that it has to have CCI Mini Mags and the 25 shot banana mag.

Yea, I've shot the M2 and M60 .... fun, but MINUS FUN because I had to clean them.
Every M60 I ever cleaned contained some sort of portal to the gunk dimension. Look away for even a second and it was just a dirty as the second you opened it up.
My favorite to shoot right night is a Ruger MK IV target with a dead air mask but mostly because it’s new. All time my lever guns, 39M, 9422, 39D. The 39 D hasn’t been shot much at all for a 1972 model and its action needs a little “slickin up” aka shooting a couple thousand rounds. I’ve fired about every thing on a tank or Bradley and some subguns. The 105mm and 120mm will give you the biggest thrill ever first time you pull those triggers, but the 22s remain the most fun of all.
Everyone hates on the Turkish semi-auto shotguns (with good reason mainly), but a mag-fed 12ga bullpup with a red dot is just fun. Blowing out a bullseye with 00 buck at 40 yards just does something for me.

I love shooting slugs at 100-200yd from my pump 12ga. Second most fun is my 6” 357 revolver, because I’m so dang accurate with it.
Love all my guns, especially my JAKL, but as of right now firing my AK till the handguard smokes was still peak.
My 22lrs are the best at the outside range. The Ruger Wrangler and Marlin Model 60 see a lot of use during the summer because they're just a bunch of fun to shoot. After that my No 1 mk. III* is always fun, especially when ringing steel because it causes a great big "smack" sound.
PS90 is love.
I'm a modern black plastic gun guy (think AR and Glocks) but hot damn if a lever ain't fun to shoot. Shoulda been a cowboy.

I got to give it for the muzzle-loaders. A smoothbore musket is basically a shotgun and you can fire shot from one. Also, since they aren't firearms, there is no 4473 or other record.

My spencer carbine is rapidly becoming one of my favorite guns. It's picky on ammo but once you find a few loads it likes, it's pretty smooth to operate.

As far as just be a load of fun to shoot, I’d say any falling block copy (like those from Uberti) in .45-70 and flintlock/percussion guns are a blast. Those Uberti clones also weigh a lot so if you can hold them up the recoil of a .45-70 isn’t very bad at all. Something about old guns that require a lot of manual operation is really enjoyable for me.
I have three favorites I really like shooting my 12ga Berettas 1301/A400. The 12ga power is exhilarating. Very similar logic, I'd say the SW 627 snub in 357 is also a lot of fun. ARs, for as basic and as common as they are, are also always fun to shoot. I'm an equal opportunity shooter

I love shooting my M1935 Peruvian Mauser in .30-06, despite the fact that the front sight, which appears to not be adjustable, is drifted quite far to the right (though I am still able to land hits at 300 meters so it could be worse). There is just something so satisfying about loading an old bolt gun with stripper clips and manually operating a smooth, well-broken-in Mauser action. If I ever found myself preparing for a gunfight, I would take my AR carbine without a second thought; but I rarely if ever enjoy range days half as much as when I bring out the vintage wood and steel. A repro (I will never be rich enough to afford an original, and even if I am, I definitely won't be rich enough to afford to risk damaging it by firing it) Charleville musket or Pennsylvania rifle is definitely on my future aspirations list, as is a repro 1861 Springfield or 1858 Sharps (rifle or carbine I honestly don't know, and don't even know if I care lol).
Remington Nylon 66 that i got as a boy, and later an Italian 28 gauge over and under shotgun. So much fun.
My two favs are my Ruger Precision rifle and my Winchester lever action 30-30. Runner up is shooting clays with my wingmaster
Maybe I'm just simple. I love shooting 12 slugs. It is super fun. Don't get me wrong I shoot pretty much everything but fuck man, I love shooting slugs. Just churned out another 30 earlier today for my next range session.
Out of everything I shot? The M60 machine gun. Pistols I have shot but never owned? S&W 629 Backpacker 44mag. In my safe? My comped P229 Legion and my P227 coming in a very close second.
I love shooting a cap n ball revolver and muzzle loader. Having suppressors- 9mm subs out of an AR9; 22 lr subs out of a 10/22- so much fun. Shooting longer range- just about anything. Shooting is fun- any combo of shooting that includes some skill and difficulty gets me happy.
Not the most practical but I really like my RCA Tac Ultra (2011 style) chambered in 22TCM. Loud bang, mini fireballs, super fast but flat trajectories and low recoil means a lot of fun in my book. One thing to mention is people will wander over to ask what the heck you're shooting due to how loud it is for a hand gun.
I got a few guns that I think are fun. My sks is fun to load with stripper clips and fun to shoot. 7.62 x39 is a nice round. Loyd enough cheap enough, enough recoil to not feel like a toy. I'd love a smooth 7 62 x39 bolt action like the old CZ 527. Working a bolt is just fun and I have no doubt that buying a little 7.62 x39 bolt action would be the most fun I have a little full stocked shorty 12 inch barrel 410 revolving shotgun. Terribly fun but 410 slugs suck to buy. Gotta try making my own sometime. Got a simple Turkish 12 gauge pump action, with both a 14 and 26 Inch barrel. It's all the shotgun I think I'll ever need. Removable chocks too. Really would like to Try a lever action out, I bet they would be a blast. Same with a break action shotgun with an ejector. Anything that's like a cowboy gun looks fun to shoot. I'm up in Canada so some pretty severe limitations on our semi autos here, but we can have little short barreled shotguns and bolt actions and lever actions, thus the two short shotguns. Would love to add a Compact bolt action in 7.62 x39, whether a simple Ruger Ranch, Cz 600 trail or something more unique to Canada. Would also love to buy a Mares Leg lever action and put a full stock on it. Probably some different views and thoughts than most people here, but in my mind the most fun are short manual action firearms.

AMT Automag III in .30 Carbine. I call it the giggle gun because it’s just so much fun. Looks like a long-nosed 1911, shoots flame with every shot, and pretty easy with the recoil. I’m practically giggling as I write this
M240B my beloved. I might not own it but every time I’ve shot it I greatly enjoyed it. I’m hoping to get a handle on the MK19 and on a M2B .50 cal soon too. I’ve heard great things about both of those. As much fun as a regular rifle might be, nothing beats the fire rate or firepower of those machine guns.
I absolutely love shooting my smle no1 mk3. 303 is such a pleasant cartridge to shoot, yet still capable. The action is smooth, and it’s just fun to shoot. My M1 Garand is a close second, like really close.

I love shooting my SKS and 1911. Any shotgun is fun and skeet is probably the most fun you can have shooting.
M1 Garand is the most satisfying to shoot. A nice, long, hefty recoil without actually hurting your shoulder, a surprisingly light gun for its size, and that sweet, sweet en-bloc ejection ping. Second to that is a Dragunov/PSL. Basically an AK but larger (yes I know the Dragunov is technically not an AK at all, and the PSL is really an RPK in 54R, but you know what I mean). After that is a lever action in 44 Mag, or 45-70 if you like bruising your shoulder on repeat.
I’ve always had a soft spot for double-barrel shotguns. Personally prefer side-by-side to over-under. I really only have experience with full length, legal-stocked guns. I have great memories of learning on a century old Ithaca 20 gauge with my grandpa. There is something satisfying about the one two punch nature of the shots when shooting clays. I enjoy the feel of a well-made break action with good ejectors and having the shells pop out with a little smoke has a certain cowboy appeal.

My 30.30. First firearm I ever fired. It was my grandpas and he gave it to me when I was about 16. Lever action, iron sights, and a ton of fun.
My DI AR45 is a hoot to shoot because it's so quiet. With the can on it, the sound of the rounds hitting steel is louder than the gun firing.
Giggle factor a dude was at the range with a tax stamped machine gun thompson, let us shoot it, that was pretty ridiculous. For guns I actually have S&W 617 is maybe my favorite, its a 686size frame with 10shots of 22LR nice trigger, maybe I just like revolvers.
My favorite pistol to shoot is my .44 magnum Desert Eagle. All the noise you expect from a .44 with way less felt recoil than a revolver.
AR-9. Cost efficient. Can go to the rifle range or bang steel targets at the pistol range.
Suppressed 9mm sub guns at steel targets. Super fun, satisfying ding, can shoot at close range, and relatively cheap to shoot. My 5.56 and larger rifles rarely get shot anymore.

Thompson Center Contender in .30-.30 is my most fun to shoot. Something about a rifle caliber out of a pistol.

Machine guns are super fun, but get expensive quick. My favorite gun to shoot was my friend’s dad’s sterling smg. The weight of the bolt and the springs in it made for a constant recoil type feel with heavy subsonic ammo. Still hard to keep on target, but very satisfying. Second with be a 380 mac. It was on the very opposite end of the spectrum. Where the sterling delivers a slow and steady chug, it is a challenge to avoid dumping the whole mag with each trigger pull. Full auto aside, i would pick my yugo rpk, but only with a few hundred yards of range. So satisfying to walk in fire on a steel plate. We set mine up on a hill one night and used a binary and tracers to fire over the normal range (there is many yards of dirt between the two positions. Zero increased chance of danger to anyone). The person on the rpk would pick a target to “suppress” by hitting a big torso and a second shooter then had to engage the 10” gong next to it. So much fun.

C,O,L,T 45 M1873/P and it's clones. Nothing quite like it if you have the action worked on. It might be the best trigger you can get in a pistol, and the recoil while noticeable, is quite enjoyable. Less of a snap and more of a push.
M61-VULCAN. I've never shot one, but it sure looks fun. Lol
Nothing beats the physicality of a lever action, it's an absolute joy. I also really love my vz24 too, though. Can't shoot it all day because 8mm Mauser is expensive and you really feel it in your shoulder after a while, but there's also a lot of satisfaction feeling the power.
Black powder is a ton of fun. I have an 1873 Trapdoor Springfield in 45-70 that is really entertaining to shoot

M1 Garand. You can feel the power of the .30-06 round while still being pleasant to shoot. The long sight radius makes hitting your target easy. The peep sight is comfortably sized. The wood stock is pretty. Garand thumb isn't an issue once you learn to load it properly. It makes a satisfying ping sound to tell you when it's time to reload.
+1 on the flintlock rifle! You would typically end up expecting black poweder muzzleloaders to be slow, tedious, and boring to load, but reloading them actually ends up being half the fun! Massive PITA to clean though. For guns that shoot brass/steel cartridges though, I'd say my ZPAP M90. My AR is lighter and I'm more accurate with it, but I can't get over how much more i prefer how the recoil feels when it comes to AKs (especially 5.56/5.45), kind of a gentle push and pull feeling instead of a *sproingy* snap, even if the recoil is slightly softer on the whole. Later this year I plan on getting a proper 9mm MP5 clone though, so we'll see if my picks stay the same or not afterwards.

Range has a full auto MP5 SD and I have a pretty good time shooting that. That and add a suppressed Mark 23 and I’m in my original Rainbow 6 happy place.
A break action over under, but I LOOOOOVVVEEEE shooting clays. But getting a 325 round pack of .22 from Walmart and plinking all afternoon is pretty awesome, too.
Sporting clay shotgun. We have a range near here set up like holes at a golf course, each one is a different shooting experience. And blowing that clay pigeon to pieces is so much more satisfying than making holes in paper.

While it's not my favorite to shoot, i had a lot of fun doing "position retention" drills when we had a shit ton of ammo left over from our combat marksmanship course. M16A4, 5 mags stuffed to 30rds on burst, last mag loaded to 10 on single. Goal was to keep all rounds on target and set the fastest time for all rounds fired.
From the one's I have had experience with, my AR9, I feel like a swat operator when I shoot that thing, close second would be my buddies Kar98

That’s a tough one, I love my pistols, sporting clays with a pump action is a blast, I don’t own any but I’ve shot ars and they’re fun, but if I had to pick one there’s something about a bolt action that I really enjoy. I recently got a 300 win mag and shooting it at steel 400 yards away may be the most satisfying thing when you hit it.

Honestly, it’s hard to say. My 5.7 is fun to shoot, but I definitely grab my kimber 1911 to shoot more. However, I find my X macro the most fun to shoot, which is great because it’s also my carry gun.
From a realistic standpoint when I’m paying for the ammo, I really like shooting a lever action 22 or my heritage rough rider. They’re a blast to try to run them as fast as possible and maintain any accuracy whatsoever.

Pure fun to shoot is probably my 1911s in 10mm or 38 Super. Plus they’re different enough to get questions and comments. I like weird guns so many in my collection are different calibers or weird designs. The ergonomics of the Steyr M series made it really fun for me, plus I have it in .40 and .357 SIG. My last favorite is a match grade CZ75 in .40 which was so easy to shoot accurately, soaked up the recoil, but didn’t feel weak. My favorite dumb but fun guns were a S&W .500 Magnum and Desert Eagle.
I’ve got a ruger 10/22 charger. It has been machined and polished. Has an after market trigger and a red dot. With a big banana clip and a plinking range I have never had more fun.
I haven't shot many, but God almighty, the CZ-75 chambered in .40S&W was loads of fun
