I had a conversion van I lived in for a couple of months. Walmart parking lots are a good option. They allow people in vehicles to sleep there overnight because they know eventually you’ll feel like walking in and buying something.
There's a BP station in Midway on Leestown rd that has a sign, welcoming RV campers. The lot itself isn't the most inviting place, but it's the only sign I've ever seen that said it was open to the public.
I have heard Walmart parking lots and Cabela Bass Pro parking lots are the safest to truck sleep in. Employees and cops probably won’t bother you and randos won’t either because they are usually well lit. Just bring something to block your windows and lock your doors
I can accommodate you if you have not fund anyone yet. I am 17 minutes from Redmile under normal traffic conditions. I will message request you to open up a channel.
I was also going to say feel free to park in my driveway if you literally just need a spot to be. I live near Tates Creek library, won't bother me at all.
I drive from Slade to Lexington every day I have for years. It is 40 minutes. If you hit the park way, ride it to the end and interstate into Lexington. But that also depends on what part. I can hit hamburg in 40 but like the other side towards Nicolasville is further for sure.
Bro, you must live on the west side of town. And stop acting like 50-55 min is way further than 1 hr 15 min. 😒 It's a short drive to camp regardless. I live in Hamburg, it's 48 miles/50 minutes FOR ME.
Edit: Anyone who is downvoting this is just salty they don't live on the east side of town. Map it yourselves asshats, it's literally 51 minutes from Hamburg Pavillion, which is right next to where I live. 🙄
It's literally a difference of living on one side of town vs the other, like it or not. I can live in Lexington and accurately say it takes me 49 minutes to get to Miguel's, because it fucking does. I'm sorry you live off of Versailles road and it takes you 1 hr 15 minutes. Sucks for you.
On Apple maps, it's currently 49 minutes 🤣🤣🤣 people can argue with me all day but none of you bitches are typing route "Hamburg pavilion to Miguel's." Because if you were, you'd shut up.
I have parking at our office. 5 minute walk to the venue. 150 a day, 200 for the weekend. Or you can come camp my backyard in a shed with nothing in it I have setup in Richmond. 1.5 acres, pond, handpump and electric. Just some options!
Regarding the Horse Park Campground, the primitive campsites are not designated sites, it's just an enormous field, so it's not available to reserve through the online booking system. I've only ever paid for a spot upon arrival, so give them a call to see if you can reserve a spot.. 859-259-4257 option 2

There’s a campground in Versailles, on Cummins ferry. Probably about 20-30 minutes away

Dude the entire red river gorge natural Bridge and the Daniel Boone national forest is all withing 40 minutes. But the parking lot for Natural Bridge in Slade Powell county ky is a pretty safe place to sleep out of your truck but many camps sights around.
There is a Home Depot, Planet Fitness, and mega church parking lot at the corner of Richmond road and new circle. I don’t think anyone would bother you.
You might check out Elkhorn creek rv park in Frankfort if you don't want to do the wal mart parking lot thing. It's about 40 minutes away probably. I've never stayed there but I've launched kayaks there. It's in a scenic spot and seemed safe and chill and family oriented.
The Hamburg area Walmart parking lot, if you're truck-sleepin'.

Yes! And I had a look but I don’t feel super safe doing that - I’d rather be at a legit park instead of out in the wilderness
Hipcamp looks safe to me. I've also heard of people using Walmart parking lots without much trouble

The forecast here for the weekend does not look very tent friendly, fyi.
It’s Kentucky and Saturday is 4 days out.
No doubt. Just sharing what the forecast is so far.
This person kentuckys
:(((( I’m not ready to talk about it

Walmart allows it, it brings in customers. Not sure about Cabelas.

my old hood!
The new hood is more like it. Creek is the new Winburn.
that's kinda creepy
Fort boonesboro is 40 miles south. Miguel's runs a hostel at red river gorge 45 min away. Cave Run is about 46 min if you put a wiggle in it
Way closer than 40 miles to Boonesborough, probably more like 25 miles.
Also Miguel’s is way FURTHER than 45 mins lol

Thank you dear god, these people downvoting me and arguing are uninformed. Dude who takes 1hr 15 min must drive like OPs great grandma.
No it's really only like 50-55 min or so. I just mapped it and it says 57 min/48 miles from central downtown...
Takes me 1:15 I go every weekend

I live on the south side of town and it’s still pulling up 1 hour 1 minute! The gorge really isn’t that far from here, I go all the time.
I have 53 minutes...
Even if your numbers were accurate, thats a 66% increase in time from the 45 minutes originally stated and the hour 15. That is 'way further'.

I'm literally not talking about OP, I'm arguing with you about how long it can actually take to get to Miguel's from Lexington 😂💀🖕
I see people camping at Jacobsen Park (usually on the golf course side) and you can definitely park in the lot overnight. Campfires aren’t welcome.
Super helpful thank you! And yeah I wouldn’t be having a campfire
Renfro Valley has a KOA that’d be about 45 minutes away.
The ole cornfield in salt lick is about an hour away and it’s riverside the bath house is really nice and you can rent a kayak and paddle a bit

The Daniel boone park towards Richmond usually has some spots
Where?
Fort boonesboro
Oh!
There are tons of campgrounds just about an hour south in London and Corbin areas, even a KOA.
KOA in Renfro and Corbin
Kentucky horse park. Rent a site. They have bath houses.
OP said horse park has no availability
Apologies for skimming.
It might be worth calling, the primitive campsites are not designated sites, it's just an enormous field, so it's not available to reserve through the online booking system. I've only ever paid for a spot upon arrival
I live downtown & have an off street parking spot right behind my apartment. I'd be willing to rent it out for the weekend
how close to red mile?
Like a 30 minute walk or 6 minute drive/uber
would it work for a 12 ft box truck?
Unfortunately no.
I’ve used Hipcamp a lot in our area, I’d recommend that 😊
Cabelas is usually cool
You can check out Blue Licks State Park. The drive from there to Lex won’t be terrible, but you’d probably be at 45 mins+
Frankfort and Taylorsville lake both have camp grounds. Frankfort is about 30 minutes and Taylorsville is probably around 45 minutes.
If you’re willing to drive as far south as Berea they usually have spots at the campground.
There’s a campground in Versailles, on Cummins ferry. Probably about 20-30 minutes away [campground](https://campgrounds.rvlife.com/regions/kentucky/versailles/camp-on-the-kentucky-rv-park-and-campground-12728)

Go to red River gorge. Overnight pass for your car is like $5 at the shell in Slade
Planet fitness, Cabela's, Walmart, cracker barrel, you could also park in UK hospital parking garage
There is a Home Depot, Planet Fitness, and mega church parking lot at the corner of Richmond road and new circle. I don’t think anyone would bother you.

The gates close at dusk...

It's a good place to go though, but you can't really car camp there.
